The workstation OS that did network transparency before NFS existed — token-ring native, object-typed everything; died when HP bought Apollo.

DOMAIN/OS was Apollo's distributed OS — the first commercial system where the network filesystem was the system: global namespace, object-level security, demand-paged virtual memory across a token ring.\n\nHP absorbed it after the 1989 acquisition; Aegis/Domain died with Apollo's hardware but its distributed-OS ideas preceded NFS's dominance by years.
