The first Android phone — slide-out keyboard, trackball, and the launch vehicle for the OS that now runs on billions of devices.

HTC's Dream (October 2008, sold as T-Mobile G1) was Android's debut — 528 MHz ARM11, slide-out keyboard, trackball, and a notification shade that immediately outclassed the iPhone's.

A year later Android was on Motorola, Samsung, and half the industry; by 2010 it outsold the iPhone. The G1 itself was discontinued after a year, having done its job.
