Write once, run anywhere — Gosling's enterprise answer to C++ that built the JVM ecosystem and never really left the server room.

Gosling's Oak became Java (1995) — 'write once, run anywhere' via the JVM — and Sun's marketing made it the enterprise standard: garbage collection, bytecode, applets, and J2EE's empire.\n\nAndroid, Hadoop, Kafka, and most of the backend run on it; it is the most-deployed language in the enterprise.
