Predecessors Remington Rand

The 1955 merger combined Remington Rand's UNIVAC computers with Sperry's gyroscope and hydraulics businesses. UNIVAC continued under names like Sperry-UNIVAC — the 1100 series, the 90/xx series — a respectable second to IBM but always second.

In 1986 the computer businesses merged with Burroughs to form Unisys; the name 'Sperry' survives in aerospace and defense units.
