FoundersMerger of Burroughs and Sperry

Born of the Burroughs–Sperry merger — still ships ClearPath machines whose architecture lineage runs unbroken to the B5000 and UNIVAC.

The September 1986 merger of Burroughs and Sperry created what was briefly the second-largest computer company. Unisys inherited two incompatible mainframe lines — Burroughs's B-series and Sperry's 1100 series — and continues both to this day as ClearPath Dorado and Libra.

That a Burroughs B5000 program from 1963 can still conceptually map onto a current ClearPath is one of computing's more remarkable continuity stories.
