Hawkins founded Palm in 1992; US Robotics bought it in 1995, 3Com spun it out in 2000, the founders left to make Handspring, and Palm bought Handspring back in 2003 — corporate chaos that somehow produced the Pilot (1996), the first PDA that worked.

webOS (2009) pioneered card multitasking and Synergy sync; HP bought Palm for $1.2 billion in 2010 and killed the hardware within a year. webOS lives on in LG televisions.
