The DOS-graphics-shell dynasty — 1.0's tiled windows to 95's taskbar to ME's curtain call; absorbed into the NT line it always leaned on.

Windows 1.0 (1985) was a DOS shell, not an OS — tiled windows, cooperative multitasking, mouse required. It sold poorly; Windows 3.0 (1990) sold ten million. Windows 95 merged DOS+Windows into the consumer line; Windows ME (2000) ended it.\n\nThe DOS-based line was dead by 2000, replaced by the NT kernel — but 'Windows' as a product name never stopped.
