Bill Joy's SunOS (1982) — BSD Unix with Sun's own networking stack — shipped on the first Sun-1. NFS (1984) made file servers real; NIS made the network administrable; 'the network is the computer' became the product.\n\nSunOS 4 was the last BSD-based release; SunOS 5 (1992) was renamed Solaris and switched to SVR4.
