Cutler's VAX system — clustering done right in 1984, security the NSA respected, and still licensed and developed by VMS Software Inc.

Dave Cutler's VAX/VMS (1977) was 'RSX-11 on steroids' — virtual memory, clustering (the first commercial cluster, VAXcluster 1983), DCL's consistent command language, and five-9s uptime that made it the enterprise standard.\n\nOpenVMS survived Alpha and Itanium ports and is still maintained by VMS Software Inc. — running banks and phone systems whose uptime requirements outlived DEC.
