Sassenrath's preemptive microkernel in 1985 — multimedia before the word existed, message-passing before it was cool; version 3.2 shipped in 2021.

AmigaOS (1985) — Carl Sassenrath's Exec kernel plus Intuition — was a preemptive multitasking OS on a 7 MHz 68000 with 256K of RAM: message-passing windows, a GUI when that was a Mac thing, and graphics hardware no rival matched.\n\nCommodore shipped it through 3.9 (2000); the community continued through Hyperion's AmigaOS 4 (PowerPC, 2008) and the still-maintained 3.2 line.
