'Jackintosh' — Tramiel's 68000 answer shipped in five months flat. Built-in MIDI made it the recording-studio standard; Power without the price, as the ads said.

Tramiel's Atari Corp shipped the 520ST in June 1985 — five months after he bought the company — the first 16-bit computer under $1,000, with built-in MIDI ports that made it the studio standard for a decade (every 90s recording studio had one).

'Power without the price' was the slogan; the ST's GEM desktop and MIDI dominance made it the European home-computer staple.
