SEQUEL renamed — declarative queries over Codd's relational model, standardized into the single most-used programming language on Earth.

Chamberlin and Boyce's SEQUEL (1974) — renamed SQL — implemented Codd's relational algebra in English-like form: SELECT FROM WHERE. IBM's System R proved it; Oracle shipped it first in 1979.\n\nANSI standardized it in 1986; it is now the universal data language — every database, every ORM, every data tool either speaks it or translates to it.
