Tags-as-programming — cfquery in HTML made a generation of mid-90s web apps possible; Adobe still sells it, Lucee keeps it free.

Allaire's ColdFusion (1995) — CFML — was the first tag-based web language: database queries as HTML tags, rapid development before 'RAD' was a term.\n\nAdobe owns it now; a legacy government and enterprise base keeps it in maintenance, and Lucee is the open engine.
