IMSAI Manufacturing Dead

Bill Millard's firm shipped the IMSAI 8080 in late 1975 — the first Altair-compatible machine, better engineered than the original, S-100 bus, sold assembled or kit. Within two years it was a serious challenger.

Millard founded ComputerLand in 1976 to sell it retail; both ventures collapsed into bankruptcy and litigation by 1979, but the clone precedent was set — and the WarGames prop department made the machine famous anyway.
