The first American computer company — BINAC and UNIVAC — founded by the ENIAC engineers. Run out of money, bought by Remington Rand in 1950.

Eckert and Mauchly left the Moore School in 1946 over patent rights and founded EMCC in Philadelphia — the first US company formed solely to build computers. They delivered BINAC (1949) to Northrop and started UNIVAC, but development costs consumed the capital.

The Census Bureau's contract kept them afloat; Remington Rand bought the company in February 1950, days before their backer's sudden death. The founders stayed and shipped the UNIVAC I in 1951.
