Led CPL's design at Cambridge, wrote the first denotational semantics work, coined 'currying,' and built the first time-sharing system (with the first video game, a draughts program, on it).\n\nHis 'Fundamental Concepts in Programming Languages' lecture notes (1967) are the field's foundational text; the Oxford semantics school is his legacy.
