Formalized logic programming — Algorithm = Logic + Control — the theory Prolog implemented.

Developed logic programming's theoretical basis with Colmerauer — 'Algorithm = Logic + Control' (1979) is the field's most quoted equation.\n\nHis work on Horn clauses made Prolog possible; later worked on legal reasoning systems.
