DEC's real-time PDP-11 family — small, serious, and the training ground for the team that built VMS.

Ran on PDP-11
Created by Digital Equipment Corporation

RSX-11 — Dave Cutler's real-time OS for the PDP-11 — shipped 1972 for industrial control and lab work. Its MCR command line, its task model, and its file system (Files-11) became the template Cutler carried forward.\n\nWhen DEC needed a VAX OS, they asked Cutler for 'RSX on steroids' — the result was VMS, and the lineage continued into Windows NT.
