Acorn's ARM-native co-operative OS — the desktop Britain's schools ran on, still developed by RISC OS Open for Raspberry Pi.

Ran on Acorn Archimedes
Created by Acorn Computers

RISC OS shipped with the Archimedes in 1987 as 'Arthur' — a co-operative multitasking GUI burned into ROM, booting instantly, with anti-aliased fonts when that was a luxury. Its design (apps as modules in ROM) was uniquely British.\n\nRISCOS Ltd and RISC OS Open continue it on modern ARM hardware; the OS that ran the first ARM chip still runs on the latest.
