OpenSolaris's kernel kept open — the community fork that powers SmartOS, OmniOS, and OpenIndiana; ZFS's home away from home.

Forked from OpenSolaris
Predecessors Solaris OpenSolaris

illumos (2010) is the community fork that kept OpenSolaris alive after Oracle closed it — the direct descendant of SunOS 5, still shipping ZFS, DTrace, Zones, and the SunOS 5 kernel.\n\nOpenIndiana, OmniOS, and SmartOS are its distributions; the only direct SVR4 lineage still developed in the open.
