Britain's home computer — rubber keys, attribute clash, and five million sold. The bedrock of the UK games industry; still manufactured in clone form.

Created by Sinclair Research

The Spectrum (April 1982) — rubber keys, attribute clash (each 8×8 cell limited to two colors), 16K or 48K for £125–£175 — was the machine Britain actually bought. Five million sold; the UK games industry learned on it.

Amstrad bought the rights in 1986 and shipped the +2/+3; officially discontinued 1992, but clones and reissues (the Vega, the Spectrum Next) continue.
