Hejlsberg's TypeScript (2012) — Microsoft's typed JavaScript — added optional types that erase at compile: any JavaScript is valid TS, and the tooling sells itself.\n\nIt ate the JavaScript world's tooling (VS Code, Deno, every framework's types) and made gradual typing the industry default.
