A matrix laboratory that became a language — every engineer's REPL, and the reason a generation learned that arrays start at 1.

Created by Cleve Moler
Influenced Julia

Cleve Moler's MATLAB (1984) — MATrix LABoratory — turned LINPACK/EISPACK into an interactive language: everything is a matrix, operators are algebraic, and numerical computing became exploratory.\n\nIt created technical computing as a category and remains the engineering standard; Julia is its most serious open challenger.
