An Wang — Harvard PhD, magnetic-core-memory co-inventor — founded his lab in 1951. The LOCI calculator (1965), 2200 series, and dedicated word processors made Wang the office-automation company of the 1970s.
The PC killed word processors as a category; Wang filed Chapter 11 in August 1992, emerged as a services firm (Wang Global), and was bought by Getronics in 1999.
