FoundersMIT Lincoln Laboratory spin-off

The SAGE spin-off — a not-for-profit running federally funded R&D, home to CVE and MITRE ATT&CK, and a quiet constant behind US air-defense computing.

MITRE was formed in 1958 to operate the SAGE air-defense project after MIT's Lincoln Lab designed it — the first large real-time computer network, and arguably the ancestor of interactive computing itself.

As a not-for-profit FFRDC operator it has maintained a peculiar neutrality: CVE, the ATT&CK framework, and decades of systems engineering for the US government all trace to it.
