Industrial titan whose computer division built the GE-600 series Multics ran on — before conceding the business to Honeywell in 1970.

Created GE-645 Multics

GE entered computing in the late 1950s with the ERMA check-processing system for Bank of America and the GE-200 series. The GE-645 was purpose-built for Multics — hardware segmentation and rings designed to MIT's specification.

GE sold its computer division to Honeywell in 1970 — the beginning of the 'IBM and the Seven Dwarfs' exodus. GE itself split into three companies in 2024.
