R. 9239 IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES August 2, 2024 Mr. Bergman introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Oversight and Accountability A BILL To amend title 13, United States Code, to provide that response to the American Community Survey shall be voluntary, and for other purposes. 1. Short title This Act may be cited as the American Community Survey Choice Act or the ACS Choice Act. 2. Voluntary response to American Community Survey Section 221 of title 13, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following: (d) The penalty under subsection (a) shall not apply to any individual who refuses or willfully neglects to answer or otherwise respond to any question in the survey conducted by the Secretary of Commerce commonly referred to as the American Community Survey (or any successor survey). .
