timely scheduling of appointments for   
health care at medical facilities of the
 ,department of ,veterans ,affairs1 and 
for other purposes4  #a4 ,short title   
,this ,act may be cited as the ,,va     
,same-,day ,scheduling ,act of #bjbb4   
#b4 ,requirement for timely scheduling  
of appointments at medical facilities of
 ,department of ,veterans ,affairs  7a7 
,requirement ,chapter #ag of title #ch1 
,united ,states ,code1 is amended-- 7#a7
 by redesignating section #agjf;,a as   
section #agjf;,b2 and  7#b7 by inserting
 after section #agjf the following new  

section3  #agjf;,a4 ,management of      
health care3 timely scheduling of       
appointments at ,department facilities  
7a7 ,requirement for scheduling ,in     
managing the provision of hospital care 
and medical services at medical         
facilities of the ,department of        
,veterans ,affairs under this chapter1  
the ,secretary shall ensure that        
whenever a covered veteran contacts the 
,department by telephone to request the 
scheduling of an appointment for care or
 services for the covered veteran at    
such a facility1 the scheduling for the 
appointment occurs during that telephone
 call 7regardless of the prospective    
date of the appointment being           
scheduled74  7b7 ,covered veteran       
defined ,in this section1 the term      
covered veteran means a veteran who is  
enrolled in the system of patient       
enrollment of the ,department under     
section #agje7;a7 of this title4  4  7b7
 ,clerical amendment ,the table of      
sections at the beginning of such       

chapter is amended by striking the item 
relating to section #agjf;,a and        
inserting the following new items3      
#agjf;,a4 ,management of health care3   
timely scheduling of appointments at    
,department facilities4 #agjf;,b4       
,remediation of medical service lines4  
4  7c7 ,applicability ,the amendments   
made by subsection 7a7 shall apply with 
respect to requests for appointment     
scheduling occurring on or after the    
date that is #abj days after the date of
 the enactment of this ,act4
