,committee on ,veterans' ,affairs  ,a   
,,bill  ,to amend title #ch1 ,united    
,states ,code1 to extend increased      
dependency and indemnity compensation   
paid to surviving spouses of veterans   
who die from amyotrophic lateral        
sclerosis1 regardless of how long the   
veterans had such disease prior to      
death4  #a4 ,short title ,this ,act may 
be cited as the ,justice for ,,als      
,veterans ,act of #bjba4  #b4 ,extension
 of increased dependency and indemnity  
compensation to surviving spouses of    
veterans who die from amyotrophic       
lateral sclerosis  7a7 ,extension       
,section #acaa7;a77#b7 of title #ch1    
,united ,states ,code1 is amended-- 7#a7
 by inserting 7,a7 before ,the rate2 and
  7#b7 by adding at the end the         

following new subparagraph3  7,b7 ,a    
veteran who died from amyotrophic       
lateral sclerosis shall be treated as a 
veteran described in subparagraph 7,a7  
without regard for how long the veteran 
had such disease prior to death4  7,c7  
,for purposes of the payment of         
compensation under this subsection by   
reason of the death of veteran described
 in subparagraph 7,b71 the term         
surviving spouse means a person who was 
married to the veteran for a continuous 
period of eight years or longer prior to
 the death of the veteran4  4  7b7      
,applicability ,subparagraphs 7,b7 and  
7,c7 of section #acaa7;a77#b7 of title  
#ch1 ,united ,states ,code1 as added by 
subsection 7a71 shall apply to a veteran
 who dies from amyotrophic lateral      
sclerosis on or after ,october #a1
