,immigration and ,nationality ,act 7#h  
,u4,s4,c4 #aaja7;a77#ea77 is amended--  
7#a7 in subparagraph 7,f71 by striking  
or at the end2  7#b7 in subparagraph    
7,g71 by striking the period at the end 
and inserting 2 or2 and  7#c7 by adding 
at the end the following3  7,h7 section 
#ajf as an abused derivative alien4  4  

7b7 ,relief for abused derivative aliens
  7#a7 ,amendment ,section #ajf of the  
,immigration and ,nationality ,act 7#h  
,u4,s4,c4 #aaje;a7 is amended to read as
 follows3  #ajf4 ,relief for abused     
derivative aliens  7a7 ,abused          
derivative alien defined ,in this       
section1 the term abused derivative     
alien means an alien who--  7#a7 is a   
spouse or child admitted under section  
#aja7;a77#ae72  7#b7 is accompanying or 
following to join a principal alien     
admitted under such section2 and  7#c7  
has been subject to battery or extreme  
cruelty by such principal alien4  7b7   
,relief for abused derivative aliens    
,the ,secretary of ,homeland ,security--
  7#a7 shall grant admission to1 or     
extend the period of admission for1 an  
abused derivative alien under the       
subparagraph of section #aja7;a77#ae7   
pursuant to which the principal alien   
was admitted for the period that is the 
longer of--  7,a7 the same period for   
which the principal alien was initially 

admitted2 or  7,b7 #c years2  7#b7 may  
renew a grant or an extension of status 
made under paragraph 7#a72  7#c7 shall  
grant employment authorization to an    
abused derivative alien2 and  7#d7 may  
adjust the status of an abused          
derivative alien to that of an alien    
lawfully admitted for permanent         
residence if--  7,a7 7i7 the abused     
derivative alien is admissible under    
section #bab7;a72 or  7ii7 the          
,secretary of ,homeland ,security       
determines that the continued presence  
in the ,united ,states of the abused    
derivative alien is justified--  7,i7 on
 humanitarian grounds2  7,,ii7 to ensure
 family unity2 or  7,,iii7 is otherwise 
in the public interest2 and  7,b7 the   
status under which the principal alien  
was admitted to the ,united ,states     
would have potentially allowed for      
eventual adjustment of status4  7c7     
,effect of termination of relationship  
,termination of the relationship with   
principal alien shall not affect the    

status of an abused derivative alien    
under this section if battery or extreme
 cruelty by the principal alien was one 
central reason for termination of the   
relationship4  7d7 ,procedures ,a       
request for relief under this section   
shall be handled under the procedures   
that apply to an alien seeking relief   
under section #bjd7;a77#a77;,b74  4     
7#b7 ,clerical amendment ,the table of  
contents preceding section #aja of the  
,immigration and ,nationality ,act 7#h  
,u4,s4,c4 #aaja7 is amended by striking 
the item relating to section #ajf and   
inserting the following3  ,sec4 #ajf4
