for affordable health insurance to      
uninsured ,americans4  #a4 ,short title 
,this ,act may be cited as the          
,affordable ,health ,care ,options ,act 
of #bjbj4  #b4 ,short-term limited      
duration insurance  7a7 ,in general     
,section #bgia7;b7 of the ,public       
,health ,service ,act 7#db ,u4,s4,c4    
#cjj;gg-#ia7;b77 is amended by adding at
 the end the following3  7#f7           
,short-term limited duration insurance  
,the term short-term1 limited duration  
insurance means insurance covering      
medical care provided pursuant to a     
contract with an issuer that-- 7,a7 has 
an expiration date specified in the     

contract that is less than #a year after
 the original effective date of the     
contract and1 taking into account       
renewals or extensions1 has a duration  
of no longer than #c years in total2    
7,b7 may include a renewal guarantee2   
and  7,c7 with respect to such a        
contract having a coverage start date on
 or after ,january #a1 #bjai1 displays  
prominently in the contract and in any  
application materials provided in       
connection with enrollment in such      
insurance in at least #ad point type the
 language in the following notice1 with 
any additional information required by  
applicable ,state law3 ,this coverage is
 not required to comply with certain    
,federal market requirements for health 
insurance1 principally those contained  
in the ,affordable ,care ,act4 ,be sure 
to check your policy carefully to make  
sure you are aware of any exclusions or 
limitations regarding coverage of       
preexisting conditions or health        
benefits 7such as hospitalization1      

emergency services1 maternity care1     
preventive care1 prescription drugs1 and
 mental health and substance use        
disorder services74 ,your policy might  
also have lifetime or annual dollar     
limits on health benefits4 ,if this     
coverage expires or you lose eligibility
 for this coverage1 you might have to   
wait until an open enrollment period to 
get other health insurance coverage44   
7#g7 ,renewal guarantee ,the term       
renewal guarantee1 with respect to      
short-term limited duration insurance1  
means a provision in the contract that  
permits a policyholder1 when purchasing 
the initial insurance contract1 to pay  
an additional amount for a guarantee    
that the policyholder can elect to      
purchase1 for periods of time following 
expiration of the initial contract1     
another policy or policies at some      
future date1 at a specific premium that 
would not reflect any additional        
underwriting4  4  7b7 ,treatment of     
short-,term limited duration insurance

by redesignating subparagraph 7,h7 as   
subparagraph 7,i72 and  7#b7 by         
inserting after subparagraph 7,g7 the   
following3  7,h7 ,short-term limited    
duration insurance4  4  7c7 ,short-,term
 health insurance options ,part ,c of   
title ,,xxvii of the ,public ,health    
,service ,act 7#db ,u4,s4,c4 #cjj;gg-#ia
 et seq47 is amended-- 7#a7 by          
redesignating section #bgid 7#db        
,u4,s4,c4 #cjj;gg-#ie7 7regarding       
uniform fraud and abuse referral        
format71 as added by section #ffjc of   
the ,patient ,protection and ,affordable
 ,care ,act 7,public ,law #aaa-adh71 as 
section #bgie2 and  7#b7 by adding at   
the end the following3  #bgif4          
,short-term health insurance options    
,nothing in this title shall be         
construed to restrict individuals from  
purchasing insurance covering medical   

care1 including short-term              
limited-duration insurance1 that        
features renewal guarantees1 as defined
