,security ,act to expand the requirement
 for ,states to suspend1 rather than    
terminate1 an individual's eligibility  
for medical assistance under the ,state 
,medicaid plan while the individual is  
an inmate of a public institution1 to   
apply to inmates of any age4  #a4 ,short
 title ,this ,act may be cited as the   
,supporting ,positive ,outcomes ,after  
,release ,act4  #b4 ,suspension of      
,medicaid benefits for inmates of public
 institutions  7a7 ,in general ,section 
#aijb of the ,social ,security ,act 7#db
 ,u4,s4,c4 #acif;a7 is amended-- 7#a7 in
 subsection 7a77#hd7--  7,a7 in         
subparagraph 7,a71 by striking          
individual who is an eligible juvenile  

and all that follows through inmate2 and
 inserting eligible individual 7as      
defined in subsection 7nn77#a77 because 
the individual is an inmate of a public 
institution 7as defined in subsection   
7nn77#b771 but may suspend coverage     
during the period the individual is such
 an inmate22  7,b7 in subparagraph 7,b71
 by striking individual who is an       
eligible juvenile described in paragraph
 7#b77;,a7 and inserting eligible       
individual who is described in paragraph
 7#a77;,a72 and  7,c7 in subparagraph   
7,c71 by striking individual who is an  
eligible juvenile described in paragraph
 7#b77;,b7 and inserting eligible       
individual who is described in paragraph
 7#a77;,b72 and  7#b7 by amending       
subsection 7nn7 to read as follows3     
7nn7 ,eligible individual2 public       
institution ,for purposes of subsection 
7a77#hd7 and this subsection3  7#a7     
,eligible individual ,the term eligible 
individual means an individual who is an
 inmate of a public institution and     

who-- 7,a7 was determined eligible for  
medical assistance under the ,state plan
 immediately before becoming an inmate  
of such a public institution2 or  7,b7  
is determined eligible for such medical 
assistance while an inmate of a public  
institution4  7#b7 ,inmate of a public  
institution ,the term inmate of a public
 institution has the meaning given such 
term for purposes of applying the       
subdivision 7,a7 following paragraph    
7#cj7 of section #aije7;a71 taking into 
account the exception in such           
subdivision for a patient of a medical  
institution4  4  7b7 ,retroactive       
effective date ,the amendments made by  
subsection 7a7 shall take effect as if  
included in the enactment of section
