preamble as the ,,cdc7-- 7#a7           
#cd1bjj1jjj individuals in the ,united  
,states have diabetes2 and  7#b7 an     
estimated #hh1jjj1jjj individuals in the
 ,united ,states who are #ah years of   
age or older have prediabetes2 ,whereas 
diabetes is a serious chronic condition 
that affects individuals of every age1  
race1 ethnicity1 and income level2      
,whereas the ,,cdc reports that-- 7#a7  
,hispanic ,americans1 ,african          

,americans1 ,asian ,americans1 and      
,native ,americans are                  
disproportionately affected by diabetes 
and develop the disease at much higher  
rates than the general population of the
 ,united ,states2 and  7#b7 an estimated
 #ba4d percent of individuals with      
diabetes in the ,united ,states have not
 yet been diagnosed with the disease2   
,whereas1 in the ,united ,states1 more  
than #aj4e percent of the population1   
including #bf4h percent of individuals  
who are #fe years of age or older1 have 
diabetes2 ,whereas1 of the #ag1djj1jjj  
veterans in the ,united ,states1        
#h1hjj1jjj who are #fe years of age or  
older1 and #a in #d overall1 are        
receiving care for diabetes from the    
,department of ,veterans ,affairs2      
,whereas the risk of developing diabetes
 at some point in life is #dj percent   
for adults in the ,united ,states2

,diabetes ,association1 the ,united     
,states spent an estimated

 for cases of diagnosed diabetes in

insulin have grown significantly in     
recent years for many patients2 ,whereas
 the ,american ,diabetes ,association   
reports that care for people with       
diagnosed diabetes accounts for #a in #d
 health care dollars spent in the       
,united ,states2 ,whereas the cost of   
health care is estimated to be #b4c     
times higher for individuals in the     
,united ,states with diabetes than those
 without diabetes2 ,whereas1 as of      
,november #bjbj1 a cure for diabetes    
does not exist2 ,whereas there are      
successful means to reduce the          
incidence1 and delay the onset1 of type 
#b diabetes2 ,whereas1 with proper      
management and treatment1 individuals   
with diabetes live healthy and          
productive lives2 and ,whereas          
individuals in the ,united ,states      
celebrate ,american ,diabetes ,month in 
,november3 ,now1 therefore1 be it ,that 

the ,house of ,representatives-- 7#a7   
supports the goals and ideals of        
,american ,diabetes ,month1 including-- 
7,a7 encouraging individuals in the     
,united ,states to fight diabetes       
through public awareness of prevention  
and treatment options2 and  7,b7        
enhancing diabetes education2  7#b7     
recognizes the importance of awareness  
and early detection1 including awareness
 of symptoms and risk factors such as-- 
7,a7 being-- 7i7 older than #de years of
 age2 or  7ii7 overweight2 and  7,b7    
having-- 7i7 a particular racial and    
ethnic background2  7ii7 a low level of 
physical activity2  7iii7 high blood    
pressure2  7iv7 a family history of     
diabetes2 or  7v7 a history of diabetes 
during pregnancy2  7#c7 supports        
decreasing the prevalence of type #a1   
type #b1 and gestational diabetes in the
 ,united ,states through research1      
treatment1 and prevention2 and  7#d7    
recognizes the importance of addressing 
systemic barriers to health care that--

at a heightened risk for diabetes2 and

resources that are needed to effectively
