,day for ,compassionate ,patient ,care4 
,whereas the ,national ,solidarity ,day 
for ,compassionate ,patient ,care       
promotes national awareness of the      
importance of compassionate and         
respectful relationships between health 
care professionals and their patients as
 reflected in attitudes that are        
sensitive to the values1 autonomy1      
cultural1 and ethnic backgrounds of     
patients and families2 ,whereas         
individuals and groups of medical       
professionals and students stand in     
solidarity to support compassion in     
health care as expressed by ,dr4        
,randall ,friese1 triage physician at   
the ,university of ,arizona ,medical    

,center who1 when queried1 stated that  
the most important treatment he provided
 to ,congress member ,gabrielle         
,giffords after she was shot on ,january
 #h1 #bjaa1 was to hold her hand and    
reassure her that she was in the        
hospital and would be cared for2        
,whereas physicians1 nurses1 all other  
health care professionals1 and medical  
facilities are charged with providing   
both the art and science of medicine2   
,whereas a greater awareness of the     
importance of compassion in health care 
encourages health care professionals to 
be mindful of the need to treat the     
patient rather than the disease2        
,whereas scientific research illustrates
 that when health care professionals    
practice humanistically2 demonstrating  
the qualities of integrity1 excellence1 
compassion1 altruism1 respect1 empathy1 
and service1 their patients have better 
medical outcomes2 and ,whereas ,february
 #adth would be an appropriate day to   
designate as ,national ,solidarity ,day 

for ,compassionate ,patient ,care and to
 celebrate it by health care students   
and professionals performing humanistic 
acts of compassion and kindness toward  
patients1 families of patients1 and     
health care colleagues3 ,now1 therefore1
 be it  ,that the ,senate--  7#a7       
designates ,february #ad1 #bjac1 as     
,national ,solidarity ,day for          
,compassionate ,patient ,care2  7#b7    
recognizes the importance and value of a
 respectful relationship between health 
care professionals and their patients as
 a means of promoting better health     
outcomes2 and  7#c7 encourages all      
health care professionals to be mindful 
of the importance of both--  7,a7 being 
humanistic and compassionate2 and  7,b7 
providing technical expertise4
