 ,finds the following3  7#a7 ,september 
#ae1 #bjac1 will mark #ej years since   
the lives of ,addie ,mae ,collins1      
,denise ,mc,nair1 ,carole ,robertson1   
and ,cynthia ,wesley were suddenly taken
 by a bomb planted in the ,sixteenth    
,street ,baptist ,church in ,birmingham1
 ,alabama4  7#b7 ,the senseless and     
premature death of these #d little      
,black girls sparked ,the ,movement that
 ,changed the ,world4  7#c7 ,on that    

tragic ,sunday in ,september of #aifc1  
the world took notice of the violence   
inflicted in the struggle for equal     
rights4  7#d7 ,the fact that #d innocent
 children lost their lives as they      
prepared for ,sunday ,school shook the  
world's conscience4  7#e7 ,this tragedy 
galvanized the ,civil ,rights ,movement 
and sparked a surge of momentum that    
helped secure the passage of the ,civil 
,rights ,act of #aifd and later the     
,voting ,rights ,act of #aife by        
,president ,lyndon ,b4 ,johnson4  7#f7  
,justice was delayed for these #d little
 ,black girls and their families until  
#bjjb1 #ci years after the bombing1 when
 the last of the #d ,klansmen           
responsible for the bombing was charged 
and convicted of the crime4  7#g7 ,the  
#d little ,black girls are emblematic of
 so many who have lost their lives for  
the cause of freedom and equality1      
including ,virgil ,ware and ,james      
,johnny ,robinson who were children also
 killed within hours of the #aifc church

 bombing4  7#h7 ,the legacy that these  
#d little ,black girls left will live on
 in the minds and hearts of us all for  
generations to come4  7#i7 ,their       
extraordinary sacrifice sparked real and
 lasting change as ,congress began to   
aggressively pass legislation that      
ensured equality4  7#aj7 ,sixteenth     
,street ,baptist ,church remains a      
powerful symbol of the movement for     
civil and human rights and will host the
 #ejth anniversary ceremony on ,sunday1 
,september #ae1 #bjac4  7#aa7 ,it is    
befitting that ,congress bestow the     
highest civilian honor1 the             
,congressional ,gold ,medal1 in #bjac to
 the #d little ,black girls1 ,addie ,mae
 ,collins1 ,denise ,mc,nair1 ,carole    
,robertson1 and ,cynthia ,wesley1       
posthumously in recognition of the #ejth
 commemoration of the historical        
significance of the bombing of the      
,sixteenth ,street ,baptist ,church4    
#b4 ,congressional gold medal  7a7      
,presentation authorized ,the ,speaker  

of the ,house of ,representatives and   
the ,president ,pro ,tempore of the     
,senate shall make appropriate          
arrangements for the presentation1 on   
behalf of ,congress1 of a gold medal of 
appropriate design to commemorate the   
lives of ,addie ,mae ,collins1 ,denise  
,mc,nair1 ,carole ,robertson1 and       
,cynthia ,wesley4  7b7 ,design and      
striking ,for purposes of the           
presentation referred to in subsection  
7a71 the ,secretary of the ,treasury    
7referred to in this ,act as the        
,secretary7 shall strike a gold medal   
with suitable emblems1 devices1 and     
inscriptions to be determined by the    
,secretary4  7c7 ,award of medal        
,following the award of the gold medal  
described in subsection 7a71 the medal  
shall be given to the ,birmingham ,civil
 ,rights ,institute in ,birmingham1     
,,al1 where it shall be available for   
display or temporary loan to be         
displayed elsewhere1 as appropriate4    
#c4 ,duplicate medals ,the ,secretary   

may strike and sell duplicates in bronze
 of the gold medal struck under section 
#b1 at a price sufficient to cover the  
costs of the medal1 including labor1    
materials1 dies1 use of machinery1 and  
overhead expenses1 and amounts received 
from the sale of such duplicates shall  
be deposited in the ,united ,states     
,mint ,public ,enterprise ,fund4  #d4   
,status of medals  7a7 ,national medals 
,the medals struck under this ,act are  
national medals for purposes of chapter 
#ea of title #ca1 ,united ,states ,code4
  7b7 ,numismatic items ,for purposes of
 sections #eacd and #eacf of title #ca1 
,united ,states ,code1 all medals struck
 under this ,act shall be considered to 
be numismatic items4  ,passed the ,house
 of ,representatives ,april #bd1 #bjac4 
,karen ,l4 ,haas1 ,clerk
