in the center of the lampstands some

and ,his eyes resembled a flame of fire4

,i have found         no doings of yours
 free from imperfection in the sight

because you are lukewarm and neither hot

,you say1 ,i am rich1 and have wealth   
stored up1 and ,i stand in need

there is a wretched         creature it 
is 99you99--pitiable1 poor1 blind1

you to buy of ,me gold refined in the   
fire         that you may become rich1  
and white robes to put on1         so as
 to hide your shameful nakedness1 and   
eye-salve to anoint         your eyes

reprove and chastise2 therefore be

this ,i looked and saw a door in ,heaven
 standing open1         and the voice   
that ,i had previously heard1 which     
resembled         the blast of a        
trumpet1 again spoke to me and said1    
,come up here1         and ,i will show 
you things which are to happen in the   
future4  #jjd3jjb ,immediately ,i found 
myself in the ,spirit1 and saw a throne 
in ,heaven1 and some ,one sitting on the
 throne4  #jjd3jjc ,the appearance of   
,him who sat there was like jasper or   
sard2         and encircling the throne 
was a rainbow1 in appearance            
like an emerald4  #jjd3jjd ,surrounding 
the throne there were also twenty-four  

other thrones1         on which sat     
twenty-four ,elders clothed in white    
robes1         with victors' wreaths of 
gold upon their heads4  #jjd3jje ,out   
from the throne there came flashes of   
lightning1 and voices1         and peals
 of thunder1 while in front of the      
throne seven blazing         lamps were 
burning1 which are the seven ,spirits of
 ,god4  #jjd3jjf ,and in front of the   
throne there seemed to be a sea of      
glass1         resembling crystal4  ,and
 midway between the throne and the      
,elders1         and surrounding the    
throne1 were four living creatures1     
full of eyes in front and behind4

resembled a lion1 the second an ox1     
the third had a face like that of a man1
 and the fourth         resembled an

 four living creatures had six wings1   
and in every direction1 and within1 are 
full of eyes2         and day after day1
 and night after night1 they never      

cease saying1 ,holy1 holy1 holy1 ,lord  
,god1 the ,ruler of all1         who

creatures give glory and honor and      
thanks         to ,him who is seated on

and they cast their wreaths down in

throne         a book written on both   
sides and closely sealed with seven

,but no one in ,heaven1 or on earth1 or 
under the earth1         was able to    
open the book or look into it4  #jje3jjd
 ,and while ,i was weeping bitterly1    
because no one was found         worthy 
to open the book or look into it1

,do not weep4  ,the ,lion which         
belongs to the tribe of ,judah1 the     
,root of ,david1 has triumphed1         
and will open the book and break its    
seven seals4  #jje3jjf ,then1 midway    
between the throne and the four living  
creatures1         ,i saw a ,lamb       
standing among the ,elders4  ,he looked 
as if ,he had         been offered in   
sacrifice1 and ,he had seven horns and  
seven eyes4         ,the last-named are 
the seven ,spirits of ,god1 and have    
been         sent far and wide into all 
the earth4  #jje3jjg ,so ,he comes1 and 
now ,he has taken the book out of the   
right         hand of ,him who is seated

had taken the book1 the four living     
creatures         and the twenty-four

having each of them a harp and bringing 
golden bowls full         of incense1   
which represent the prayers of ,god's

new song4  ,it is fitting1 they say1    
that ,thou shouldst be the ,one to take 
the book ,and break         its seals2  
,because ,thou hast been offered in     
sacrifice1         ,and hast purchased  
for ,god with ,thine own blood ,some out
         of every tribe and language and
 people and nation1  #jje3jaj ,and hast 
formed them into a ,kingdom to be       
priests to         our ,god1 ,and they  
reign over the earth4  #jje3jaa ,and ,i 
looked1 and heard what seemed to be the 
voices of countless         angels on   
every side of the throne1 and of the    
living         creatures and the        
,elders4  ,their number was myriads of  
myriads         and thousands of        

thousands1  #jje3jab and in loud voices 
they were singing1 ,it is fitting that  
the ,lamb which has been offered in     
sacrifice should receive         all    
power and riches and wisdom and might   
and honor and         glory and         
blessing4  #jje3jac ,and as for every   
created thing in ,heaven and on earth   
and under         the earth and on the  
sea1 and everything that was in any of  
these1         ,i heard them say1 ,to   
,him who is seated on the throne1       
,and to the ,lamb1 ,be ascribed all     
blessing and honor ,and glory           
and might1 ,until the ,ages of the      
,ages6  #jje3jad ,then the four living  
creatures said ,amen1 and the ,elders   
fell down and worshipped4  #jjf3jja ,and
 when the ,lamb broke one of the seven  
seals ,i saw it1         and ,i heard   
one of the four living creatures say1 as
 if in         a voice of thunder1      
,come4  #jjf3jjb ,and ,i looked and a   
white horse appeared1 and its rider     
carried a bow2 and a victor's wreath was

 given to him2         and he went out  
conquering and in order to conquer4     
#jjf3jjc ,and when the ,lamb broke the  
second seal1 ,i heard the second        
living creature say1 ,come4  #jjf3jjd   
,and another horse came out--a fiery-red
 one2 and power was given         to its
 rider to take peace from the earth1 and
 to cause men         to kill one       
another2 and a great sword was given to 
him4  #jjf3jje ,when the ,lamb broke the
 third seal1 ,i heard the third living  
creature say1 ,come4 ,i looked1 and a   
black horse appeared1         its rider 
carrying a balance in his hand4

 a voice speaking in the midst          
of the four living creatures1 and       
saying1 ,a quart of wheat         for a 
shilling1 and three quarts of barley for
 a shilling2         but do not injure

,when the ,lamb broke the fourth seal ,i
 heard the voice of         the fourth  
living creature say1 ,come4  #jjf3jjh ,i

 looked and a pale-colored horse        
appeared4  ,its rider's name         was
 ,death1 and ,hades came close behind   
him2 and authority         was given to 
them over the fourth part of the earth1 
to kill         with the sword or with  
famine or pestilence or by means        
of the wild beasts of the earth4        
#jjf3jji ,when the ,lamb broke the fifth
 seal1 ,i saw at the foot of the altar  
the souls of those whose lives had been 
sacrificed because of         the word  
of ,god and of the testimony which they

long1         ,o ,sovereign ,lord1 the  
holy ,one and the true1 dost ,thou delay
         judgment and the taking of     
vengeance upon the inhabitants

,and there was given to each of them a  
long white robe1         and they were  
bidden to wait patiently for a short

looked1 and there was         a great   
earthquake1 and the sun became as dark

upon being shaken by a gale of wind1    
casts its unripe figs         to the

#jjg3jad ,my lord1 you know1 ,i replied4
  ,they are those1         he said1 who 
have just passed through the great      
distress1         and have washed their 
robes and made them white in the blood  
of the ,lamb4  #jjg3jae ,for this reason
 they stand before the very throne of   
,god1         and render ,him service1  
day after day and night after night1    
in ,his sanctuary1 and ,he who is       

sitting upon the throne         will    
shelter them in ,his tent4  #jjg3jaf    
,they will never again be hungry or     
thirsty1 and never again         will   
the sun or any scorching heat trouble   
them4  #jjg3jag ,for the ,lamb who is in
 front of the throne will be their      
,shepherd1         and will guide them  
to watersprings of ,life1 and ,god will 
wipe         every tear from their eyes4
  #jjh3jja ,when the ,lamb broke the    
seventh seal1 there was silence         
in ,heaven for about half an hour4      
#jjh3jjb ,then ,i saw the seven angels  
who are in the presence of ,god1        
and seven trumpets were given to them4  
#jjh3jjc ,and another angel came and    
stood close to the altar1               
carrying a censer of gold2 and abundance
 of incense was given         to him    
that he might place it with the prayers 
of all ,god's         people upon the   
golden altar which was in front of the  
throne4  #jjh3jjd ,and the smoke of the 
incense rose into the presence of ,god  

from         the angel's hand1 and      
mingled with the prayers of ,his people4
  #jjh3jje ,so the angel took the censer
 and filled it with fire from           
the altar and flung it to the earth2 and
 there followed         peals of        
thunder1 and voices1 and flashes of     
lightning1         and an earthquake4   
#jjh3jjf ,then the seven angels who had 
the seven trumpets made preparations    
for blowing them4  #jjh3jjg ,the first  
blew his trumpet2 and there came hail   
and fire1         mixed with blood1     
falling upon the earth2 and a third part
         of the earth was burnt up1 and 
a third part of the trees         and   
all the green grass4  #jjh3jjh ,the     
second angel blew his trumpet2 and what 
seemed to be a         great mountain1  
all ablaze with fire1 was hurled into   
the sea2         and a third part of the
 sea was turned into blood4  #jjh3jji   
,and a third part of the creatures that 
were in the sea--those that         had 
life--died2 and a third part of the     

ships were destroyed4  #jjh3jaj ,the    
third angel blew his trumpet2 and there 
fell from ,heaven         a great star1 
which was on fire like a torch4  ,it    
fell upon         a third part of the   
rivers and upon the springs of water4   
#jjh3jaa ,the name of the star is       
',wormwood2' and a third part of the    
waters         were turned into         
wormwood1 and vast numbers of the people
         died from drinking the water1  
because it had become bitter4  #jjh3jab 
,then the fourth angel blew his trumpet2
 and a curse fell         upon a third  
part of the sun1 a third part of the    
moon1         and a third part of the   
stars1 so that a third part of them     
were darkened and for a third of the    
day1 and also of the night1             
there was no light4  #jjh3jac ,then ,i  
looked1 and ,i heard a solitary eagle   
crying in a loud voice1         as it   
flew across the sky1 ,alas1 alas1 alas1 
for the inhabitants         of the      
earth1 because of the significance of   

the remaining         trumpets which the
 three angels are about to blow6        
#jji3jja ,the fifth angel blew his      
trumpet2 and ,i saw a ,star which had   
fallen from ,heaven to the earth2 and to
 him was given the key         of the   
depths of the bottomless pit1  #jji3jjb 
and he opened the depths of the         
bottomless pit4  ,and smoke came        
up out of the pit resembling the smoke  
of a vast furnace1         so that the  
sun was darkened1 and the air also1 by  
reason         of the smoke of the pit4 
#jji3jjc ,and from the midst of the     
smoke there came locusts on to          
the earth1 and power was given to them  
resembling the power         which      
earthly scorpions possess4  #jji3jjd    
,and they were forbidden to injure the  
herbage of the earth1 or any            
green thing1 or any tree4  ,they were   
only to injure human beings--           
those who have not the seal of ,god on  
their foreheads4  #jji3jje ,their       
mission was not to kill1 but to cause   

awful agony for         five months2 and
 this agony was like that which a       
scorpion         inflicts when it stings
 a man4  #jji3jjf ,and at that time     
people will seek death1 but will by no  
possibility         find it1 and will   
long to die1 but death evades them4     
#jji3jjg ,the appearance of the locusts 
was like that of horses equipped        
for war4  ,on their heads they had      
wreaths which looked like gold4         
#jji3jjh ,their faces seemed human and  
they had hair like women's hair1        
but their teeth resembled those of      
lions4  #jji3jji ,they had breast-plates
 which seemed to be made of steel2      
and the noise caused by their wings was 
like that of a vast         number of   
horses and chariots hurrying into       
battle4  #jji3jaj ,they had tails like  
those of scorpions1 and also stings2    
and in their tails lay their power of   
injuring mankind         for five       
months4  #jji3jaa ,the locusts had a    
king over them--the angel of the        

bottomless pit1         whose name in   
,hebrew is ',abaddon1' while in the     
,greek         he is called ',apollyon4'
  #jji3jab ,the first woe is past2 two  
other woes have still to come4  #jji3jac
 ,the sixth angel blew his trumpet2 and 
,i heard a single voice         speaking
 from among the horns of the golden     
incense altar         which is in the   
presence of ,god4  #jji3jad ,it said to 
the sixth angel--the angel who had the  
trumpet1         ,set at liberty the    
four angels who are prisoners near      
the great river ,euphrates4  #jji3jae   
,and the four angels who had been kept  
in readiness for         that hour1 day1
 month1 and year1 were set at liberty1  
so that they might kill a third part of 
mankind4  #jji3jaf ,the number of the   
cavalry was two hundred millions2       
,i heard their number4  #jji3jag ,and   
this was the appearance of the horses   
which ,i saw in my vision--         and 
of their riders4  ,the body-armour of   
the riders was red1         blue and    

yellow2 and the horses' heads were      
shaped like         the heads of lions1 
while from their mouths there came fire 
and smoke and sulphur4  #jji3jah ,by    
these three plagues a third part of     
mankind were destroyed--         by the 
fire and the smoke1 and by the sulphur  
which came         from their mouths4   
#jji3jai ,for the power of the horses is
 in their mouths and in their tails2    
their tails being like serpents1 and    
having heads1 and it         is with    
them that they inflict injury4  #jji3jbj
 ,but the rest of mankind who were not  
killed by these plagues1         did not
 even then repent and leave the things  
they had made1         so as to cease   
worshipping the demons1 and the idols of
 gold         and silver1 bronze1 stone1
 and wood1 which can neither see        
nor hear1 nor move4  #jji3jba ,nor did  
they repent of their murders1 their     
practice of magic1         their        
fornication1 or their thefts4  #jaj3jja 
,then ,i saw another strong angel coming

 down from ,heaven4         ,he was     
robed in a cloud1 and over his head was 
the rainbow4         ,his face was like 
the sun1 and his feet resembled pillars 
of fire4  #jaj3jjb ,in his hand he held 
a small scroll unrolled2 and1 planting  
his         right foot on the sea and   
his left foot on the land1  #jaj3jjc he 
cried out in a loud voice which         
resembled the roar of a lion4           
,and when he had cried out1 each of the 
seven peals of thunder         uttered  
its own message4  #jaj3jjd ,and when the
 seven peals of thunder had spoken1 ,i  
was about         to write down what    
they had said2 but ,i heard a voice from
         ,heaven which told me to keep  
secret all that the seven peals         
of thunder had said1 and not write it   
down4  #jaj3jje ,then the angel that ,i 
saw standing on the sea and on the land1
         lifted his right hand toward   
,heaven4  #jaj3jjf ,and in the name of  
,him who lives until the ,ages of the   
,ages1         the ,creator of ,heaven  

and all that is in it1 of the earth     
and all that is in it1 and of the sea   
and all that is in it1         he       
solemnly declared1  #jaj3jjg ,there     
shall be no further delay2 but in the   
days when the         seventh angel     
blows his trumpet--when he begins to do 
so--         then the secret purposes of
 ,god are realized1 in accordance       
with the good news which ,he gave to    
,his servants the ,prophets4  #jaj3jjh  
,then the voice which ,i had heard      
speaking from ,heaven once         more 
addressed me4  ,it said1 ,go and take   
the little book         which lies open 
in the hand of the angel who is standing
         on the sea and on the land4    
#jaj3jji ,so ,i went to the angel and   
asked him to give me the little book4   
,take it1 he said1 and eat the whole of 
it4  ,you will find         it bitter   
when you have eaten it1 although in your
 mouth it         will taste as sweet as
 honey4  #jaj3jaj ,so ,i took the roll  
out of the angel's hand and ate the     

whole of it2         and in my mouth it 
was as sweet as honey1 but when ,i had  
eaten         it ,i found it very       
bitter4  #jaj3jaa ,and a voice said to  
me1 ,you must prophesy yet further      
concerning peoples1 nations1 languages1 
and many kings4  #jaa3jja ,then a reed  
was given me to serve as a measuring    
rod2         and a voice said1 ,rise1   
and measure ,god's sanctuary--          
and the altar--and count the worshipers 
who are in it4  #jaa3jjb ,but as for the
 court which is outside the sanctuary1  
pass it over4         ,do not measure   
it2 for it has been given to the        
,gentiles1         and for forty-two    
months they will trample the holy       
city under foot4  #jaa3jjc ,and ,i will 
authorize ,my two witnesses to prophesy 
for #a1bfj days1         clothed in     
sackcloth4  #jaa3jjd ,these witnesses   
are the two olive-trees1 and they are   
the two         lamps which stand in the
 presence of the ,lord of the earth4    
#jaa3jje ,and if any one seeks to injure

 them--fire comes from their mouths     
and devours their enemies2 and if any   
one seeks to injure them1         he    
will in this way certainly be killed4   
#jaa3jjf ,they have power given to them 
to seal up the sky1 so that         no  
rain may fall so long as they continue  
to prophesy2         and power over the 
waters to turn them into blood1 and to  
smite         the earth with various    
plagues whenever they choose to do so4  
#jaa3jjg ,and when they have fully      
delivered their testimony1         the  
,wild ,beast which is to rise out of the
 bottomless pit         will make war   
upon them and overcome them and kill    
them4  #jaa3jjh ,and their dead bodies  
are to lie in the broad street of the   
great         city which spiritually is 
designated ',sodom' and ',egypt1'       
where indeed their ,lord was crucified4 
#jaa3jji ,and men belonging to all      
peoples1 tribes1 languages and          
nations gaze at their dead bodies for   
three days and a half1         but they 

refuse to let them be laid in a tomb4   
#jaa3jaj ,the inhabitants of the earth  
rejoice over them and are glad          
and will send gifts to one another2 for 
these two ,prophets         had greatly 
troubled the inhabitants of the earth4  
#jaa3jaa ,but at the end of the three   
days and a half the breath of life      
from ,god entered into them1 and they   
rose to their feet2         and all who 
saw them were terrified4  #jaa3jab ,then
 they heard a loud voice calling to them
 out of ,heaven1         and bidding    
them come up2 and they went up to       
,heaven in the cloud1         and their 
enemies saw them go4  #jaa3jac ,and just
 as that time there was a great         
earthquake1 and a tenth         part of 
the city was overthrown4  #g1jjj people 
were killed         in the earthquake1  
and the rest were terrified and gave    
glory         to the ,god of ,heaven4   
#jaa3jad ,the second ,woe is past2 the  
third ,woe will soon be here4  #jaa3jae 
,the seventh angel blew his trumpet2 and

 there followed loud         voices in  
,heaven which said1 ,the sovereignty of 
the world         now belongs to our    
,lord and ,his ,christ2 and ,he will be 
,king         until the ,ages of the    
,ages4  #jaa3jaf ,then the twenty-four  
,elders1 who sit on thrones in the      
presence         of ,god1 fell on their 
faces and worshipped ,god1  #jaa3jag    
saying1 ,we give thee thanks1 ,o ,lord  
,god1 the ,ruler of all1         ,who   
art and wast1 because ,thou hast exerted
 ,thy power1         ,thy great power1  
and hast become ,king4  #jaa3jah ,the   
nations grew angry1 and ,thine anger has
 come1 and the time         for the dead
 to be judged1 and the time for ,thee to
 give         their reward to ,thy      
servants the ,prophets and to ,thy      
people1         and to those who fear   
,thee1 the small and the great1         
and to destroy those who destroy the    
earth4  #jaa3jai ,then the doors of     
,god's sanctuary in ,heaven were opened1
         and the ,ark1 in which ,his    

,covenant was1 was seen in ,his         
sanctuary2         and there came       
flashes of lightning1 and voices1 and   
peals         of thunder1 and an        
earthquake1 and heavy hail4  #jab3jja   
,and a great marvel was seen in         
,heaven--a woman who was robed          
with the sun and had the moon under her 
feet1 and had also         a wreath of  
stars round her head1 was with child1   
#jab3jjb and she was crying out in the  
pains and agony of childbirth4  #jab3jjc
 ,and another marvel was seen in        
,heaven--a great fiery-red ,dragon1     
with seven heads and ten horns2 and on  
his heads were         seven kingly     
crowns4  #jab3jjd ,his tail was drawing 
after it a third part of the stars of   
,heaven1         and it dashed them to  
the ground4  ,and in front of the woman 
who was about to become a mother1 the   
,dragon was standing         in order to
 devour the child as soon as it was     
born4  #jab3jje ,she gave birth to a    
son--a male child1 destined before long 

to rule all nations with an iron        
scepter4  ,but her child         was    
caught up to ,god and ,his throne1      
#jab3jjf and the woman fled into the    
,desert1 there to be cared for1         
for #a1bfj days1 in a place which ,god  
had prepared for her4  #jab3jjg ,and war
 broke out in ,heaven1 ,michael and his 
angels engaging         in battle with  
the ,dragon4  #jab3jjh ,the ,dragon     
fought and so did his angels2 but they  
were defeated1         and there was no 
longer any room found for them in       
,heaven4  #jab3jji ,the great ,dragon1  
the ancient serpent1 he who is called   
'the ,devil'         and 'the           
,adversary' and leads the whole earth   
astray1         was hurled down3  he was
 hurled down to the earth1 and his      
angels were hurled down with him4       
#jab3jaj ,then ,i heard a loud voice    
speaking in ,heaven4         ,it said1  
,the salvation and the power and the    
,kingdom         of our ,god have now   
come1 and the sovereignty of ,his       

,christ2         for the accuser of our 
brethren has been hurled down--he who1  
day after day and night after night1 was
 wont to accuse them         in the     
presence of ,god4  #jab3jaa ,but they   
have gained the victory over him because
 of the blood         of the ,lamb and  
of the testimony which they have borne1 
and because they held their lives cheap 
and did not shrink         even from    
death4  #jab3jab ,for this reason be    
glad1 ,o ,heaven1 and you who live      
in ,heaven6  ,alas for the earth and the
 sea6  ,for the ,devil         has come 
down to you2 full of fierce anger1      
because he knows         that his       
appointed time is short4  #jab3jac ,and 
when the ,dragon saw that he was hurled 
down to the earth1         he went in   
pursuit of the woman who had given birth
 to         the male child4  #jab3jad   
,then1 the two wings of a great eagle   
were given to the woman         to      
enable her to fly away into the ,desert 
to the place         assigned her1 there

 to be cared for1 for a period of time1 
two periods of time1 and half a period  
of time1 beyond the reach         of the
 serpent4  #jab3jae ,and the serpent    
poured water from his mouth--a very     
river it seemed--         after the     
woman1 in the hope that she would be    
carried away         by its flood4      
#jab3jaf ,but the earth came to the     
woman's help3  it opened its            
mouth and drank up the river which the  
,dragon had poured         from his     
mouth4  #jab3jag ,this made the ,dragon 
furiously angry with the woman1 and he  
went         elsewhere to make war upon 
her other children--those who keep      
,god's commandments and hold fast to the
 testimony of ,jesus4  #jac3jja ,and he 
took up a position upon the sands of the
 sea-shore4 ,then ,i         saw a ,wild
 ,beast coming up out of the sea1 and he
 had ten         horns and seven heads4 
,on his horns were ten kingly crowns1   
and inscribed on his heads were names   
full of blasphemy4  #jac3jjb ,the ,wild 

,beast which ,i saw resembled a leopard1
 and had feet         like the feet of a
 bear1 and his mouth was like the mouth 
of a lion2 and it was to the ,dragon    
that he owed his power         and his  
throne and his wide dominion4  #jac3jjc 
,i saw that one of his heads seemed to  
have been mortally wounded2         but 
his mortal wound was healed1 and the    
whole world was amazed         and      
followed him4  #jac3jjd ,and they       
offered worship to the ,dragon1 because 
it was to him         that the ,wild    
,beast owed his dominion2 and they also 
offered         worship to the ,wild    
,beast1 and said1 ,who is there like    
him8         ,and who is able to engage 
in battle with him8  #jac3jje ,and there
 was given him a mouth full of boastful 
and         blasphemous words2 and      
liberty of action was granted him       
for forty-two months4  #jac3jjf ,and he 
opened his mouth to utter blasphemies   
against ,god1         to speak evil of  
,his name and of ,his dwelling-place--  

that is to say1 of those who dwell in   
,heaven4  #jac3jjg ,and permission was  
given him to make war upon ,god's people
         and conquer them2 and power was
 given him over every tribe1            
people1 language and nation4  #jac3jjh  
,and all the inhabitants of the earth   
will be found to be         worshipping 
him3  every one whose name is not       
recorded in         the ,book of        
,life--the ,book of the ,lamb who has   
been offered         in sacrifice ever  
since the creation of the world4        
#jac3jji ,let all who have ears give    
heed4  #jac3jaj ,if any one is eager to 
lead others into captivity1 he must     
himself go into captivity4  ,if any one 
is bent on killing         with the     
sword1 he must himself be killed by the 
sword4         ,here is an opportunity  
for endurance1 and for the exercise     
of faith1 on the part of ,god's people4 
#jac3jaa ,then ,i saw another ,wild     
,beast1 coming up out of the earth4     
,he had two horns like those of a lamb1 

but he spoke like a dragon4  #jac3jab   
,and the authority of the first ,wild   
,beast--the whole of         that       
authority--he exercises in his presence1
 and he causes         the earth and its
 inhabitants to worship the first ,wild 
,beast1         whose mortal wound had  
been healed4  #jac3jac ,he also works   
great miracles1 so as even to make fire 
come         down from ,heaven to earth 
in the presence of human beings4        
#jac3jad ,and his power of leading      
astray the inhabitants of the earth     
is due to the marvels which he has been 
permitted to work         in the        
presence of the ,wild ,beast4  ,and he  
told the inhabitants         of the     
earth to erect a statue to the ,wild    
,beast who had         received the     
sword-stroke and yet had recovered4     
#jac3jae ,and power was granted him to  
give breath to the statue         of the
 ,wild ,beast1 so that the statue of the
 ,wild ,beast         could even speak  
and cause all who refuse to worship it  

to be put to death4  #jac3jaf ,and he   
causes all1 small and great1 rich and   
poor1 free men         and slaves1 to   
have stamped upon them a mark on their  
right         hands or on their         
foreheads1  #jac3jag in order that no   
one should be allowed to buy or sell    
unless         he had the mark--either  
the name of the ,wild ,beast or the     
number         which his name           
represents4  #jac3jah ,here is scope for
 ingenuity4  ,let people of shrewd      
intelligence         calculate the      
number of the ,wild ,beast2 for it      
indicates         a certain man1 and his
 number is #fff4  #jad3jja ,then ,i     
looked1 and ,i saw the ,lamb standing   
upon ,mount ,zion1         and with ,him
 #add1jjj people1 having ,his name and  
,his ,father's         name written on  
their foreheads4  #jad3jjb ,and ,i heard
 music from ,heaven which resembled the 
sound of many         waters and the    
roar of loud thunder2 and the music     
which ,i         heard was like that of 

harpists playing upon their harps4      
#jad3jjc ,and they were singing what    
seemed to be a new song1 in front       
of the throne and in the presence of the
 four living creatures         and the  
,elders2 and no one was able to learn   
that song except         the #add1jjj   
people who had been redeemed out of the 
world4  #jad3jjd ,these are those who   
had not defiled themselves with women3  
they are as pure as virgins4  ,they     
follow the ,lamb wherever ,he goes4     
,they have been redeemed from among men1
 as firstfruits to ,god         and to  
the ,lamb4  #jad3jje ,and no lie has    
ever been found upon their lips3        
they are faultless4  #jad3jjf ,and ,i   
saw another angel flying across the sky1
 carrying the ,good ,news         of the
 ,ages to tell to every nation1 tribe1  
language and people1         among those
 who live on the earth4  #jad3jjg ,he   
said in a loud voice1 ,fear ,god and    
give ,him glory1         because the    
time of ,his judgment has come2 and     

worship ,him         who made sky and   
earth1 the sea and the water-springs4   
#jad3jjh ,and another1 a second angel1  
followed1 exclaiming1 ,great ,babylon   
has fallen1 has fallen--she who made all
 the nations drink         the wine of  
the anger provoked by her fornication4  
#jad3jji ,and another1 a third angel1   
followed them1 exclaiming in a          
loud voice1 ,if any one worships the    
,wild ,beast and his statue1         and
 receives a mark on his forehead or on  
his hand1  #jad3jaj he shall drink the  
wine of ,god's anger which stands ready1
         undiluted1 in the cup of ,his  
fury1 and he shall be tormented         
with fire and sulphur in the presence of
 the holy angels         and of the     
,lamb4  #jad3jaa ,and the smoke of their
 torment goes up until the ,ages of the 
,ages2         and the worshipers of the
 ,wild ,beast and his statue have no    
rest day or night1 nor has any one who  
receives the mark         of his name4  
#jad3jab ,here is an opportunity for    

endurance on the part of ,god's people1 
who carefully keep ,his commandments and
 the faith of ,jesus6  #jad3jac ,and ,i 
heard a voice speaking from ,heaven4    
,it said1         ,write as follows3    
',blessed are the dead who die in the   
,lord         from this time onward4    
,yes1 says the ,spirit1 let them        
rest from their sorrowful labours2 for  
what they have done         goes with   
them4'  #jad3jad ,then ,i looked1 and a 
white cloud appeared1 and sitting on    
the cloud was some ,one resembling the  
,son of ,man1 having a         wreath of
 gold upon ,his head and in ,his hand a 
sharp sickle4  #jad3jae ,and another1 an
 angel1 came out of the sanctuary1      
calling in a loud         voice to ,him 
who sat on the cloud1 and saying1 ,use  
your sickle         and reap the        
harvest1 for the hour for reaping it has
 come3         the harvest of the earth 
is over-ripe4  #jad3jaf ,then ,he who   
sat on the cloud flung ,his sickle on   
the earth1         and the earth had its

 harvest reaped4  #jad3jag ,and another 
angel came out from the sanctuary in    
,heaven1         and he too carried a   
sharp sickle4  #jad3jah ,and another    
angel came out from the altar--he who   
had power         over fire--and he     
spoke in a loud voice to him who had    
the sharp sickle1 saying1 ,use your     
sharp sickle1 and gather         the    
bunches from the vine of the earth1 for 
its grapes are         now quite ripe4  
#jad3jai ,and the angel flung his sickle
 down to the earth1 and reaped          
the vine of the earth and threw the     
grapes into the great         winepress 
of ,god's anger4  #jad3jbj ,and the     
winepress was trodden outside the city1 
and out of it         came blood        
reaching the horses' bridles for a      
distance         of #bjj miles4         
#jae3jja ,then ,i saw another marvel in 
,heaven1 great and wonderful--          
there were seven angels bringing seven  
plagues4         ,these are the last    
plagues1 because in them ,god's anger   

has         found full expression4      
#jae3jjb ,and ,i saw what seemed to be a
 sea of glass mingled with fire1        
and those who had gained the victory    
over the ,wild ,beast         and over  
his statue and the number of his name1  
standing by         the sea of glass and
 having harps which belonged to ,god4   
#jae3jjc ,and they were singing the song
 of ,moses1 ,god's servant1         and 
the song of the ,lamb4  ,their words    
were1 ,great and         wonderful are  
,thy works1 ,o ,lord ,god1 the ,ruler of
 all4         ,righteous and true are   
,thy ways1 ,o ,king of the nations4     
#jae3jjd ,who shall not be afraid1 ,o   
,lord1 and glorify ,thy name8           
,for ,thou alone art holy4  ,all nations
 shall come and shall         worship   
,thee1 because the righteousness of all 
that ,thou hast         done has been   
made manifest4  #jae3jje ,after this1   
when the doors of the sanctuary of the  
tent         of witness in ,heaven were 
opened1 ,i looked2  #jae3jjf and there  

came out of the sanctuary the seven     
angels who were         bringing the    
seven plagues4  ,the angels were clad in
 pure1         bright linen1 and had    
girdles of gold across their breasts4

creatures gave the seven angels         
seven bowls of gold1 full of the anger  
of ,god who lives until         the     
,ages of the ,ages4  #jae3jjh ,and the  
sanctuary was filled with smoke from the
 glory of ,god         and from ,his    
power2 and no one could enter the       
sanctuary till         the seven plagues
 brought by the seven angels were at an 
end4  #jaf3jja ,then ,i heard a loud    
voice from the sanctuary say to the     
seven angels1 ,go and pour on to the    
earth the seven bowls         of the    
anger of ,god4  #jaf3jjb ,so the first  
angel went away and poured his bowl on  
to the earth2         and it brought a  
bad and painful sore upon the men who   
had on         them the mark of the     
,wild ,beast and worshipped his statue4 

#jaf3jjc ,the second angel poured his   
bowl into the sea1 and it         became
 blood1 like a dead man's blood1 and    
every living         creature in the sea
 died4  #jaf3jjd ,the third angel poured
 his bowl into the rivers and springs   
of water1 and they became blood4        
#jaf3jje ,and ,i heard the angel of the 
waters say1 ,righteous art ,thou1       
who art and wast1 the holy ,one1 because
 ,thou hast         thus taken          
vengeance4  #jaf3jjf ,for they poured   
out the blood of ,thy people and of the 
,prophets1         and in return ,thou  
hast given them blood to drink4         
,and this they deserved4  #jaf3jjg ,and 
,i heard a voice from the altar say1    
,even so1 ,o ,lord ,god1         the    
,ruler of all1 true and righteous are   
,thy judgments4  #jaf3jjh ,then the     
fourth angel poured his bowl on to the  
sun1 and power         was given to it  
to scorch men with fire4  #jaf3jji ,and 
the men were severely burned2 and yet   
they spoke evil         of ,god who had 

power over the plagues1 and they did not
 repent         so as to give ,him      
glory4  #jaf3jaj ,the fifth angel poured
 his bowl on to the throne of the ,wild 
,beast2         and his kingdom became  
darkened4  ,people gnawed their tongues 
because of the pain1  #jaf3jaa and they 
spoke evil of the ,god in ,heaven       
because of their pains         and their
 sores1 and did not repent of their     
misconduct4  #jaf3jab ,the sixth angel  
poured his bowl into that great river1  
the ,euphrates2 and its stream was dried
 up in order to clear         the way   
for the kings who are to come from the  
east4  #jaf3jac ,then ,i saw three foul 
spirits1 resembling frogs1 issue from   
the mouth of the ,dragon1 from the mouth
 of the ,wild ,beast1         and from  
the mouth of the false ,prophet4        
#jaf3jad ,for they are the spirits of   
demons working marvels--         spirits
 that go out to control the kings of the
 whole earth1         to assemble them  
for the battle which is to take place on

         the great day of ,god1 the

like a thief4  ,blessed is the man who  
keeps         awake and guards his      
raiment for fear he walk about ill-clad1
         and his uncomeliness become

 the seventh angel poured his bowl into 
the air2         and a loud voice came  
out of the sanctuary from the throne1

and an earthquake more dreadful than    
there had ever been         since there 
was a man upon the earth--so terrible

remembrance         before ,god1 for    
,him to make her drink from the wine-cup

seemed to be a talent in weight1        
fell from the sky upon the people2 and  
they spoke evil of ,god         on      
account of the plague of the            
hail--because the plague         of it

one of the seven angels who were        
carrying the seven         bowls came   
and spoke to me4  ,come with me1 he     
said1         and ,i will show you the  
doom of the great ,harlot who sits

attired with gold and jewels and pearls4
         ,she held in her hand a cup of

symbol of         great ,babylon1 the   
mother of the harlots and of the

an eighth king and yet is one of the    
seven and he goes         his way into

which you have seen are ten kings who   
have         not yet come to the throne1

 but for a single hour they are         
to receive authority as kings along with

one common policy1 and they are to give 
their power         and authority to the
 ,wild ,beast4  #jag3jad ,they will make
 war upon the ,lamb1 and the ,lamb will 
triumph         over them2 for ,he is   
,lord of lords and ,king of kings4      
,and those who accompany ,him--called1  
as they are1 and chosen1         and    
faithful--shall share in the victory4

stronghold for every kind of foul spirit

nations have drunk the wine of the anger
 provoked         by her fornication1   
and the kings of the earth have         
committed         fornication with her1 
and the merchants of the earth have     
grown         rich through her excessive

another voice from ,heaven1 which said1 

,come out of her1         ,my people1   
that you may not become partakers in her
 sins1         nor receive a share of   
her plagues4  #jah3jje ,for her sins are
 piled up to the sky1 and ,god has      
called         to mind her unrighteous  
deeds4  #jah3jjf ,give back to her as   
she has given2 repay her in accordance  
with her doings1 twice as much2 in the  
bowl that she has mixed1         mix    
twice as much for her4  #jah3jjg ,she   
has freely glorified herself and        
revelled in luxury2         equally     
freely administer torment to her1 and   
woe4         ,for in her heart she      
boasts1 saying1 ',i sit enthroned as    
,queen3         no widow am ,i3  ,i     
shall never know sorrow4'  #jah3jjh ,for
 this reason calamities shall come thick
 upon her on a single day--             
death and sorrow and famine--and she    
shall be burned to the ground4          
,for strong is the ,lord ,god who has

earth who have committed fornication    

with her1         and have revelled in  
luxury1 shall weep aloud and lament     
over her when they see the smoke of her 
burning1  #jah3jaj while they stand afar
 off because of their terror at her     
heavy punishment1 and say1 ',alas1 alas1
 thou great city1         ,o ,babylon1  
the mighty city6  ,for in one short hour

,and the merchants of the earth weep    
aloud and lament over her1              
because now there is no sale for their  
cargoes--  #jah3jab cargoes of gold and 
silver1 of jewels and pearls1 of fine   
linen1         purple and silk1 and of  
scarlet stuff2 all kinds of rare woods1 
and all kinds of goods in ivory and in  
very costly wood1         in bronze1    
steel and marble4  #jah3jac ,also       
cinnamon and amomum2 odors to burn as   
incense or for perfume2                 
frankincense1 wine1 oil2 fine flour1    
wheat1 cattle and sheep2         horses 
and carriages and slaves2 and the lives 
of men4  #jah3jad ,the dainties that thy

 soul longed for are gone from thee1    
and all thine elegance and splendor have
 perished1 and never         again shall
 they be found4  #jah3jae ,those who    
traded in these things1 who grew wealthy
 through her1         will stand afar   
off1 struck with terror at her          
punishment1  #jah3jaf weeping aloud and 
sorrowing1 and saying1 ',alas1 alas1 for
 this         great city1 which was     
brilliantly arrayed in fine linen1      
and purple and scarlet stuff1 and       
beautified with gold1         jewels and
 pearls2  #jah3jag because in one short 
hour all this great wealth has been laid
 waste6'         ,and every shipmaster  
and every passenger by sea and the crews
         and all who ply their trade on 
the sea1  #jah3jah stood afar off1 and  
cried aloud when they saw the smoke of  
her burning4  ,and they said1 ',what    
city is like this great city8'  #jah3jai
 ,and they threw dust upon their heads1 
and cried out1         weeping aloud and
 sorrowing4  ',alas1 alas1' they said1  

'for this great city1 in which1 through 
her vast wealth1         the owners of  
all the ships on the sea have grown     
rich2         because in one short hour

,rejoice over her1 ,o ,heaven1 and you  
saints and ,apostles and ,prophets2     
for ,god has taken vengeance upon her

 angel of great strength took a stone   
which         resembled a huge          
millstone1 and hurled it into the sea1  
saying1 ,so shall ,babylon1 that great  
city1 be violently         hurled down

harp or song1 no flute or trumpet1 shall
 ever again be heard         in thee2 no
 craftsman of any kind shall ever again 
be found         in thee2 nor shall the 
grinding of the mill ever again be

shall the light of a lamp shine in thee1
 and never again         shall the voice
 of a bridegroom or of a bride be heard 
in thee4         ,for thy merchants were

 the great men of the earth1         and
 with the magic which thou didst

the blood of ,prophets and of ,god's    
people         and of all who had been

,for her smoke         ascends until the

there comes a sharp sword with which ,he

ruling them with a scepter of iron2 and 
it is ,his work to tread         the    
winepress of the fierce anger of ,god1

,his outer garment and on ,his thigh ,he

standing in the full light of the sun1  
who cried in a loud voice to all the    
birds that flew across         the sky1 
,come and be present at ,god's great

the flesh of kings and the flesh        
of generals and the flesh of mighty men1
 on the flesh         of horses and     
their riders1 and on the flesh of all   
mankind1         whether they are free  
men or slaves1 great men or small4

and the kings of the earth1         and 
their armies1 all assembled to make war1
 once for all1         against the      
,rider upon the horse and against ,his  
army4         ,and the ,wild ,beast was 
captured1 and with him the false

miracles in his presence with which he  
had led         astray those who had    
received the mark of the ,wild ,beast1  
and those who worshipped his statue4    
,both of them were thrown         alive 
into the ,lake of fire that was all     
ablaze with sulphur4  #jai3jba ,but the 
rest were killed with the sword that    
came from the mouth         of the      
,rider on the horse4  ,and the birds all
 fed ravenously         upon their      
flesh4  #jbj3jja ,then ,i saw an angel  
coming down from ,heaven1 having the key
         of the bottomless pit1 and upon
 his arm he carried a great chain4      
#jbj3jjb ,he laid hold of the           
,dragon--the ancient serpent--who is the
 ,devil         and the ,adversary1 and 

bound him for a thousand years1         
and hurled him into the bottomless pit4 
#jbj3jjc ,he closed the entrance and put
 a seal upon him in order         that  
he might be unable to lead the nations  
astray         any more until the       
thousand years were at an end4          
,afterwards he is to be set at liberty  
for a short time4  #jbj3jjd ,and ,i saw 
thrones1 and some who were seated on    
them1 to whom         judgment was      
entrusted4  ,and ,i saw the souls of    
those who had         been beheaded on  
account of the testimony that they had  
borne         to ,jesus and on account  
of ,god's ,message1 and also the souls  
of those who had not worshipped the     
,wild ,beast or his statue1         nor 
received his mark on their foreheads or 
on their hands2         and they came to
 ,life and were kings with ,christ for  
a thousand years4  #jbj3jje ,no one else
 who was dead rose to ,life until the   
thousand years         were at an end4  
,this is the ,first ,resurrection4      

#jbj3jjf ,blessed and holy are those who
 share in the ,first ,resurrection4     
,the ,second ,death has no power over   
them1 but they shall be         priests 
to ,god and to ,christ1 and shall be    
kings with ,christ         for the      
thousand years4  #jbj3jjg ,but when the 
thousand years are at an end1 the       
,adversary         will be released from
 his imprisonment1  #jbj3jjh and will go
 out to lead astray the nations in all  
the four         corners of the earth1  
,gog and ,magog1 and assemble them for  
war1         and they are like the sands
 on the seashore in number4  #jbj3jji   
,and they went up over the whole breadth
 of the earth and         surrounded the
 encampment of ,god's people and the    
beloved city4         ,but fire came    
down from ,heaven and consumed them2    
#jbj3jaj and the ,devil1 who had been   
leading them astray1 was thrown         
into the ,lake of fire and sulphur where
 the ,wild ,beast and         the false 
,prophet were1 and day and night they   

will suffer         torture until the   
,ages of the ,ages4  #jbj3jaa ,then ,i  
saw a great white throne and ,one who   
was seated on it1         from whose    
presence earth and sky fled away1 and no
 place         was found for them4      
#jbj3jab ,and ,i saw the dead1 the great
 and the small1 standing in             
front of the throne4  ,and books were   
opened2 and so was         another      
book--namely1 the ,book of ,life2 and   
the dead were         judged by the     
things recorded in the books in         
accordance         with what their      
conduct had been4  #jbj3jac ,then the   
sea yielded up the dead who were in it1 
,death and ,hades         yielded up the
 dead who were in them1 and each man was
 judged         in accordance with what 
his conduct had been4  #jbj3jad ,then   
,death and ,hades were thrown into the  
,lake of fire2         this is the      
,second ,death--the ,lake of fire4      
#jbj3jae ,and if any one's name was not 
found recorded in the ,book         of  

,life he was thrown into the ,lake of

,heaven and a new earth2 for the first  
,heaven         and the first earth were
 gone1 and the sea no longer exists4

new ,jerusalem1 coming down out

 a bride attired         to meet her

voice1 which came from the throne1 say1 
,god's dwelling place is among men and  
,he will dwell among         them and   
they shall be ,his peoples4  ,yes1 ,god 
,himself will         be among them4

their eyes4  ,death shall be no more2   
nor sorrow1 nor wail of woe1 nor pain2  
for the first things         have passed

for they are trustworthy and true4

from the well of the ,water of ,life

allotted to them         shall be in the

 me the holy city1 ,jerusalem1 coming

like that of a very precious stone--such
 as a jasper1         bright and

massive and high1 with twelve large     
gates1         and in charge of the     
gates were twelve angels4  ,and         
overhead1         above the gates1 names
 were inscribed which are those of      
the twelve tribes of the descendants of 
,israel4  #jba3jac ,there were three    
gates on the east1 three on the north1  
three on the south1 and three on the    
west4  #jba3jad ,the wall of the city   
had twelve foundation stones1 and       
engraved         upon them were twelve  
names--the names of the twelve ,apostles
         of the ,lamb4  #jba3jae ,now he
 who was speaking to me had a           
measuring-rod of gold1         with     
which to measure the city and its gates 
and its wall4  #jba3jaf ,the plan of the

 city is a square1 the length being the 
same         as the breadth2 and he     
measured the city furlong by furlong1   
with his measuring rod--it is twelve    
hundred miles long1         and the     
length and the breadth and the height of
 it are equal4  #jba3jag ,and he        
measured the wall of it--a wall of a    
hundred and         forty-four cubits1  
according to human measure1 which was   
also that of the angel4  #jba3jah ,the  
solid fabric of the wall was jasper2 and
 the city itself         was made of    
gold1 resembling transparent glass4     
#jba3jai ,as for the foundation-stones  
of the city wall1 which were beautified 
with various kinds of precious stones1  
the first was jasper1         the second
 sapphire1 the third chalcedony1 the    
fourth emerald1         the fifth       
sardonyx1 the sixth sardius1  #jba3jbj  
the seventh chrysolite1 the eighth      
beryl1 the ninth topaz1         the     
tenth chrysoprase1 the eleventh jacinth1
 the twelfth amethyst4  #jba3jba ,and   

the twelve gates were twelve pearls2    
each of them consisting         of a    
single pearl4  ,and the main street of  
the city was made         of pure gold1 
resembling transparent glass4  #jba3jbb 
,i saw no sanctuary in the city1 for the
 ,lord ,god1 the ,ruler         of all1 
is its ,sanctuary1 and so is the ,lamb4 
#jba3jbc ,nor has the city any need of  
the sun or of the moon1 to give         
it light2 for the glory of ,god has     
shone upon it and its lamp         is   
the ,lamb4  #jba3jbd ,the nations will  
live their lives by its light2 and the  
kings         of the earth are to bring 
their glory into it4  #jba3jbe ,and in  
the daytime 7for there will be no night 
there7         the gates will never be  
closed2  #jba3jbf and the glory and     
honor of the nations shall be brought   
into it4  #jba3jbg ,and no unclean thing
 shall ever enter it1 nor any one who is
         guilty of base conduct or tells
 lies1 but only they whose         names
 stand recorded in the ,lamb's ,book of 

,life4  #jbb3jja ,then he showed me the 
river of the ,water of ,life1 bright as 
crystal1         issuing from the throne
 of ,god and of the ,lamb4  #jbb3jjb ,on
 either side of the river1 midway       
between it and the main         street  
of the city1 was the ,tree of ,life4    
,it produced         twelve kinds of    
fruit1 yielding a fresh crop month by   
month1         and the leaves of the    
tree served as medicine for the nations4
