poor man wearing shabby clothes1 #jjb3jjc and you pay court to the one who wears the fine clothes1 and say1 ,sit here2 this is a good place2 while to the poor man you say1 ,stand there1 or sit on the floor at my feet2 #jjb3jjd is it not plain that in your hearts you have little faith1 seeing that you have become judges full of wrong thoughts8 #jjb3jje ,listen1 my dearly-loved brethren4 ,has not ,god chosen those whom the world regards as poor to be rich in faith and heirs of the ,kingdom which ,he has promised to those that love ,him8 #jjb3jjf ,but 99you99 have put dishonour upon the poor man4 ,yet is it not the rich who grind you down8 ,are not they the very people who drag you into the ,law courts8-- #jjb3jjg and the very people who speak evil of the noble ,name by which you are called8 #jjb3jjh ,if1 however1 you are keeping the ,law as supreme1 in obedience to the ,commandment which says ,you are to love your fellow man just as you love yourself1 you are acting rightly4 #jjb3jji ,but if you are making distinctions between one man and another1 you are guilty of sin1 and are convicted by the ,law as offenders4 #jjb3jaj ,a man who has kept the ,law as a whole1 but has failed to keep some one command1 has become guilty of violating all4 #jjb3jaa ,for ,he who said1 ,do not commit adultery1 also said1 ,do not commit murder1 and if you are a murderer1 although not an adulterer1 you have become an offender against the ,law4 #jjb3jab ,speak and act as those should who are expecting to be judged by the ,law of freedom4 #jjb3jac ,for he who shows no mercy will have judgement given against him without mercy2 but mercy triumphs over judgement4 #jjb3jad ,what good is it1 my brethren1 if a man professes to have faith1 and yet his actions do not correspond8 ,can such faith save him8 #jjb3jae ,suppose a ,christian brother or sister is poorly clad or lacks daily food1 #jjb3jaf and one of you says to them1 ,i wish you well2 keep yourselves warm and well fed1 and yet you do not give them what they need2 what is the use of that8 #jjb3jag ,so also faith1 if it is unaccompanied by obedience1 has no life in it--so long as it stands alone4 #jjb3jah ,nay1 some one will say1 ,you have faith1 ,i have actions3 prove to me your faith apart from corresponding actions and ,i will prove mine to you by my actions4 #jjb3jai ,you believe that ,god is one1 and you are quite right3 evil spirits also believe this1 and shudder4 #jjb3jbj ,but1 idle boaster1 are you willing to be taught how it is that faith apart from obedience is worthless8 ,take the case of ,abraham our forefather4 #jjb3jba ,was it1 or was it not1 because of his actions that he was declared to be righteous as the result of his having offered up his son ,isaac upon the altar8 #jjb3jbb ,you notice that his faith was co-operating with his actions1 and that by his actions his faith was perfected2 #jjb3jbc and the ,scripture was fulfilled which says1 ,and ,abraham believed ,god1 and his faith was placed to his credit as righteousness1 and he received the name of ,god's friend4' #jjb3jbd ,you all see that it is because of actions that a man is pronounced righteous1 and not simply because of faith4 #jjb3jbe ,in the same way also was not the notorious sinner ,rahab declared to be righteous because of her actions when she welcomed the spies and hurriedly helped them to escape another way8 #jjb3jbf ,for just as a human body without a spirit is lifeless1 so also faith is lifeless if it is unaccompanied by obedience4 #jjc3jja ,do not be eager1 my brethren1 for many among you to become teachers2 for you know that we teachers shall undergo severer judgement4 #jjc3jjb ,for we often stumble and fall1 all of us4 ,if there is any one who never stumbles in speech1 that man has reached maturity of character and is able to curb his whole nature4 #jjc3jjc ,remember that we put the horses' bit into their mouths to make them obey us1 and so we turn their whole bodies round4 #jjc3jjd ,so too with ships1 great as they are1 and often driven along by strong gales1 yet they can be steered with a very small rudder in whichever direction the caprice of the man at the helm chooses4 #jjc3jje ,in the same way the tongue is an insignificant part of the body1 but it is immensely boastful4 ,remember how a mere spark may set a vast forest in flames4 #jjc3jjf ,and the tongue is a fire4 ,that world of iniquity1 the tongue1 is placed within us spotting and soiling our whole nature1 and setting the whole round of our lives on fire1 being itself set on fire by ,gehenna4 #jjc3jjg ,for brute nature under all its forms--beasts and birds1 reptiles and fishes--can be subjected and kept in subjection by human nature4 #jjc3jjh ,but the tongue no man or woman is able to tame4 ,it is an ever-busy mischief1 and is full of deadly poison4 #jjc3jji ,with it we bless the ,lord and ,father1 and with it we curse men1 who are made in ,god's likeness4 #jjc3jaj ,out of the same mouth there proceed blessing and cursing4 ,my brethren1 this ought not to be4 #jjc3jaa ,in a fountain1 are fresh water and bitter sent forth from the same opening8 #jjc3jab ,can a fig-tree1 my brethren1 yield olives1 or a vine yield figs8 ,no2 and neither can salt water yield sweet4 #jjc3jac ,which of you is a wise and well-instructed man8 ,let him prove it by a right life with conduct guided by a wisely teachable spirit4 #jjc3jad ,but if in your hearts you have bitter feelings of envy and rivalry1 do not speak boastfully and falsely1 in defiance of the truth4 #jjc3jae ,that is not the wisdom which strive for peace1 is the seed of which the harvest is righteousness4 #jjd3jja ,what causes wars and contentions among you8 ,is it not the cravings which are ever at war within you for various pleasures8 #jjd3jjb ,you covet things and yet cannot get them2 you commit murder2 you have passionate desires and yet cannot gain your end2 you begin to fight and make war4 ,you have not1 because you do not pray2 #jjd3jjc or you pray and yet do not receive1 because you pray wrongly1 your object being to waste what you get on some pleasure or another4 #jjd3jjd ,you unfaithful women1 do you not know that friendship with the world means enmity to ,god8 ,therefore whoever is bent on being friendly with the world makes himself an enemy to ,god4 #jjd3jje ,or do you suppose that it is to no purpose that the ,scripture says1 ,the ,spirit which ,he has caused to dwell in our hearts yearns jealously over us8 #jjd3jjf ,but ,he gives more abundant grace1 as is implied in ,his saying1 ,god sets ,himself against the haughty1 but to the lowly ,he gives grace4 #jjd3jjg ,submit therefore to ,god3 resist the ,devil1 and he will flee from you4 #jjd3jjh ,draw near to ,god1 and ,he will draw near to you4 ,cleanse your hands1 you sinners1 and make your hearts pure1 you who are half-hearted towards ,god4 #jjd3jji ,afflict yourselves and mourn and weep aloud2 let your laughter be turned into grief1 covered with rust1 and the rust on them will give evidence against you1 and will eat your flesh like fire4 ,you have hoarded up wealth in these last days4 #jje3jjd ,i tell you that the pay of the labourers who have gathered in your crops--pay which you are keeping back--is calling out against you2 and the outcries of those who have been your reapers have entered into the ears of the ,lord of the armies of ,heaven4 #jje3jje ,here on earth you have lived self-indulgent and profligate lives4 ,you have stupefied yourselves with gross feeding2 but a day of slaughter has come4 #jje3jjf ,you have condemned--you have murdered--the righteous man3 he offers no resistance4 #jje3jjg ,be patient therefore1 brethren1 until the ,coming of the ,lord4 ,notice how eagerly a farmer waits for a valuable crop6 ,he is patient over it till it has received the early and the later rain4 #jje3jjh ,so you also must be patient3 keeping up your courage2 for the ,coming of the ,lord is now close at hand4 #jje3jji ,do not cry out in condemnation of one another1 brethren1 lest you come under judgement4 ,i tell you that the ,judge is standing at the door4 #jje3jaj ,in illustration1 brethren1 of persecution patiently endured take the ,prophets who have spoken as messengers from the ,lord4 #jje3jaa ,remember that we call those blessed who endured what they did4 ,you have also heard of ,job's patient endurance1 and have seen the issue of the ,lord's dealings with him-- how full of tenderness and pity the ,lord is4 #jje3jab ,but above all things1 my brethren1 do not swear1 either by ,heaven or by the earth1 or with any other oath4 ,let your yes' be simply yes1' and your no' be simply no2' that you may not come under condemnation4 #jje3jac ,is one of you suffering8 ,let him pray4 ,is any one in good spirits8 ,let him sing a psalm4 #jje3jad ,is any one ill8 ,let him send for the ,elders of the ,church1 and let them pray over him1 after anointing him with oil in the name of the ,lord4 #jje3jae ,and the prayer of faith will restore the sick man1 and the ,lord will raise him up to health2 and if he has committed sins1 they shall be forgiven4 #jje3jaf ,therefore confess your sins to one another1 and pray for one another1 so that you may be cured4 ,the heartfelt supplication of a righteous man exerts a mighty influence4 #jje3jag ,elijah was a man with a nature similar to ours1 and he earnestly prayed that there might be no rain3 and no rain fell on the land for three years and six months4 #jje3jah ,again he prayed1 and the sky gave rain and the land yielded its crops4 #jje3jai ,my brethren1 if one of you strays from the truth and some one brings him back1 #jje3jbj let him know that he who brings a sinner back from his evil ways will save the man's soul from death and throw a veil over a multitude of sins4
