,thus ,his fame spread through all      
,syria2 and they brought all         the
 sick to ,him1 the people who were      
suffering from various         diseases 
and pains--demoniacs1 epileptics1       
paralytics2         and ,he cured them4

,him1 coming from ,galilee1         from
 the ,ten ,towns1 from ,jerusalem1 and  
from beyond the district         on the 
other side of the ,jordan4  #jje3jja    
,seeing the multitude of people1 ,jesus 
went up the ,hill4         ,there ,he   
seated ,himself1 and when ,his disciples

 came to ,him1  #jje3jjb ,he proceeded  
to teach them1 and said3  #jje3jjc      
,blessed are the poor in spirit1 for to 
them belongs the ,kingdom         of the
 ,heavens4  #jje3jjd ,blessed are the   
mourners1 for they shall be comforted4  
#jje3jje ,blessed are the meek1 for they
 as heirs shall obtain possession       
of the earth4  #jje3jjf ,blessed are    
those who hunger and thirst for         
righteousness1         for they shall be
 completely satisfied4  #jje3jjg        
,blessed are the compassionate1 for they
 shall receive compassion4  #jje3jjh    
,blessed are the pure in heart1 for they
 shall see ,god4  #jje3jji ,blessed are 
the peacemakers1 for it is they who will
 be         recognized as sons of ,god4 
#jje3jaj ,blessed are those who have    
borne persecution in the cause          
of ,righteousness1 for to them belongs  
the ,kingdom of the ,heavens4  #jje3jaa 
,blessed are you when they have insulted
 and persecuted you1         and have   
said every cruel thing about you falsely

 for my sake4  #jje3jab ,be joyful and  
triumphant1 because your reward is great
 in the ,heavens2         for so were   
the ,prophets before you persecuted4

earth2 but if salt has         become   
tasteless1 in what way can it regain its
 saltness8         ,it is no longer good
 for anything but to be thrown away     
and trodden on by the passers by4

world2 a town cannot be hid if built    
on a hill-top4  #jje3jae ,nor is a lamp 
lighted to be put under a bushel1 but on
 the lampstand2         and then it     
gives light to all in the house4

before all men1 in order that they      
may see your holy lives and may give    
glory to your ,father         who is in 
,heaven4  #jje3jag ,do not for a moment 
suppose that ,i have come to abrogate   
the ,law or the ,prophets3  ,i have not 
come to abrogate them         but to    
give them their completion4  #jje3jah   

,solemnly ,i tell you that until ,heaven
 and earth pass away1         not one   
iota or smallest detail will pass away  
from the ,law         until all has     
taken place4  #jje3jai ,whoever         
therefore breaks one of these least     
commandments and teaches         others 
to break them1 will be called the least 
in the ,kingdom         of the ,heavens2
 but whoever practises them and teaches 
them1         he will be acknowledged as
 great in the ,kingdom of the ,heavens4

your righteousness greatly surpasses    
that of the ,scribes and the ,pharisees1
 you will certainly         not find

you remember that your brother has a

with your opponent while you         are

,when you give in charity1 never blow a

hypocrites do in the synagogues and     
streets in order         that their     
praises may be sung by men4  ,i solemnly
 tell you         that they already have

are giving in charity1 let not your left
 hand         perceive what your right  
hand is doing1  #jjf3jjd that your      
charities may be in secret2 and then    
your ,father--,he who         sees in   
secret--will recompense you4  #jjf3jje  
,and when praying1 you must not be like 
the hypocrites4         ,they are fond  
of standing and praying in the          
synagogues or at         the corners of 
the wider streets1 in order that men may
 see them4         ,i solemnly tell you 
that they already have their reward4

 into your own room and shut         the
 door3  then pray to your ,father who is
 in secret1         and your            
,father--,he who sees in secret--will

expect to be listened to because of     
their         multitude of words4

and think slightingly of the other4     
,you cannot be the bondservants both of

reason ,i charge you not to be          
over-anxious about your lives1          
inquiring what you are to eat or what   
you are to drink1 nor yet         about 
your bodies1 inquiring what clothes you 
are to put on4         ,is not the life 

more precious than its food1 and the

or store up in barns1 but your ,heavenly

their         feet and then turn and

always he who asks that receives1 he who

who if his son shall ask him         for

narrow is the gate and contracted the

,beware of the false teachers--men who  
come to you in sheep's fleeces1         
but beneath that disguise they are

fruits you will easily recognize them4  
,are grapes gathered from thorns or figs
 from brambles8  #jjg3jag ,just so every
 good tree produces good fruit1 but a   
poisonous         tree produces bad     
fruit4  #jjg3jah ,a good tree cannot    
bear bad fruit1 nor a poisonous tree    
good fruit4  #jjg3jai ,every tree which 
does not yield good fruit is cut down   
and thrown         aside for burning4

rate1 you will easily recognize them4

this8 for the very winds and waves obey

other side1 in the country of the       
,gadarenes1         there met ,him two  
men possessed by demons1 coming from    
among         the tombs3  they were so  
dangerously fierce that no one was

cried aloud1 ,what hast ,thou to do with
 us1 ,thou ,son         of ,god8  ,hast 
,thou come here to torment us before the

from them a vast herd of swine were

entreated ,him4  ,if ,thou drivest us   
out1         they said1 send us into the

men and went         into the swine1    
whereupon the entire herd instantly     

rushed         down the cliff into the  
,lake and perished in the water4

including what had happened to the

whole population came out to meet

they besought ,him to leave their

 on board1 and crossing over came to

brought to ,him a paralytic lying on a  
bed4         ,seeing their faith ,jesus 
said to the paralytic1 ,take courage1   
my child2 your sins are pardoned4

 some of the ,scribes         among     
themselves4  #jji3jjd ,knowing their    
thoughts ,jesus said1 ,why are you      
cherishing         evil thoughts in your
 hearts8  #jji3jje ,why1 which is       
easier8--to say1 ,your sins are         
pardoned1'         or to say ,rise up   
and walk'8  #jji3jjf ,but1 to prove to  

you that the ,son of ,man has authority 
on earth         to pardon sins--,he    
then says to the paralytic1 ,rise1 and  
take         up your bed and go home4   
#jji3jjg ,and he got up1 and went off   
home4  #jji3jjh ,and the crowds were    
awe-struck when they saw it1 and        
ascribed         the glory to ,god who  
had entrusted such power to a man4      
#jji3jji ,passing on thence ,jesus saw a
 man called ,matthew sitting         at 
the ,toll ,office1 and said to him1     
,follow me4         ,and he arose1 and  
followed ,him4  #jji3jaj ,and while ,he 
was reclining at table1 a large number  
of         tax-gathers and notorious    
sinners were of the party with ,jesus   
and ,his disciples4  #jji3jaa ,the      
,pharisees noticed this1 and they       
inquired of ,his disciples1         ,why
 does your ,teacher eat with the        
tax-gatherers         and notorious     
sinners8  #jji3jab ,he heard the        
question and replied1 ,it is not men in 
good health         who require a       

doctor1 but the sick4  #jji3jac ,but go 
and learn what this means1 ,it is mercy 
that ,i desire1         not sacrifice'2 
for ,i did not come to appeal to the    
righteous1         but to sinners4      
#jji3jad ,at that time ,john's disciples
 came and asked ,jesus1 ,why do we      
and the ,pharisees fast1 but your       
disciples do not8  #jji3jae ,can the    
bridegroom's party mourn1 ,he replied1  
as long         as the bridegroom is    
with them8  ,but other days will come   
7when the ,bridegroom has been taken    
from them7 and then         they will   
fast4  #jji3jaf ,no one ever mends an   
old cloak with a patch of newly woven   
cloth4         ,otherwise1 the patch put
 on would tear away some of the old1    
and a worse hole would be made4         
#jji3jag ,nor do people pour new wine   
into old wineskins4  ,otherwise1 the    
skins         would split1 the wine     
would escape1 and the skins be          
destroyed4         ,but they put new    
wine into fresh skins1 and both are     

saved4  #jji3jah ,while ,he was thus    
speaking1 a ,ruler came up and          
profoundly         bowing said1 ,my     
daughter is just dead2 but come and put 
your hand upon her and she will return  
to life4  #jji3jai ,and ,jesus rose and 
followed him1 as did also ,his          
disciples4  #jji3jbj ,but a woman who   
for twelve years had been afflicted with
 haemorrhage         came behind ,him   
and touched the tassel of ,his cloak2   
#jji3jba for she said to herself1 ,if ,i
 but touch ,his cloak1         ,i shall 
be cured4  #jji3jbb ,and ,jesus turned  
and saw her1 and said1 ,take courage1   
daughter2         your faith has cured  
you4  ,and the woman was restored

,entering the ,ruler's house1 ,jesus saw
 the flute-players         and the crowd

 ,go out of the room2 the little girl is

,when the demon was expelled1 the dumb

such         a thing seen in ,israel4

 ,it is by the power of the ,prince     
of the demons that he drives out the    
demons4  #jji3jce ,and ,jesus continued 
,his circuits through all the towns and 
the villages1 teaching in their         
synagogues and proclaiming         the  
,good ,news of the ,kingdom1 and curing 
every kind of         disease and       
infirmity4  #jji3jcf ,and when ,he saw  
the crowds ,he was touched with pity for
 them1         because they were        
distressed and were fainting on the     
ground         like sheep which have no 
shepherd4  #jji3jcg ,then ,he said to   
,his disciples1 ,the harvest is         
abundant1         but the reapers are   
few2  #jji3jch therefore entreat the    
,owner of the ,harvest to send out      
reapers         into ,his fields4

twelve disciples and gave them          
authority over foul spirits1 to drive   
them out2 and to cure         every kind

,now the names of the twelve ,apostles

called ,peter1 and his brother ,andrew2 
,james the son of ,zabdi1         and

tax-gatherer1         ,james the son of

mission1 after giving them         their

silver nor copper to carry         in

journey1 nor change of linen1 nor shoes1
         nor stick2 for the labourer    
deserves his food4  #jaj3jaa ,whatever  
town or village you enter1 inquire for  
some good man2         and make his     
house your home till you leave the      
place4  #jaj3jab ,when you enter the    
house1 salute it2  #jaj3jac and if the  
house deserves it1 the peace you invoke 
shall come         upon it4  ,if not1   
your peace shall return to you4         
#jaj3jad ,and whoever refuses to receive
 you or even to listen to your ,message1
         as you leave that house or     
town1 shake off the very dust           
from your feet4  #jaj3jae ,i solemnly   
tell you that it will be more endurable 
for the land         of ,sodom and      
,gomorrah on the day of ,judgement than 
for that town4  #jaj3jaf ,remember it is
 ,i who am sending you out1 as sheep    
into         the midst of wolves2 prove 
yourselves as sagacious as serpents1    

and as innocent as doves4  #jaj3jag ,but
 beware of men2 for they will deliver   
you up to appear         before         
,sanhedrins1 and will flog you in their 
synagogues2  #jaj3jah and you will even 
be put on trial before governors and    
kings         for my sake1 to bear      
witness to them and to the ,gentiles4

you up1 have no anxiety as to how       
you shall speak or what you shall say2  
for at that very time         it shall

it is not you who will speak3  it will  
be the ,spirit         of your ,father

 will betray brother to death1 and      
father1 child2         and children will
 rise against their own parents and will

,and you will be objects of universal   
hatred because you         are called by
 my name2 but he who holds out to the

 one town1 escape to the next2          
for ,i solemnly tell you that you will  
not have gone the round         of all  
the towns of ,israel before the ,son of

never superior to his teacher1 and the  
servant         is never superior to his
 master4  #jaj3jbe ,enough for the      
learner to be on a level with his       
teacher1         and for the servant to 
be on a level with his master4          
,if they have called the master of the  
house ,baal-zebul1         how much more
 will they slander his servants8        
#jaj3jbf ,fear them not1 however2 there 
is nothing veiled which will         not
 be uncovered1 nor secret which will not

you in the dark1 speak in the light2 and
 what is         whispered into your    
ear1 proclaim upon the roofs of the

upbraid the towns where most of ,his

,their intention was to bring a charge

a single sheep and it falls into a hole

strict injunctions not to blaze abroad

only expels demons         by the power

if it is by ,baal-zebul's power that ,i 
expel the demons1         by whose power

the ,spirit of ,god that ,i expel       
the demons1 it is evident that the      
,kingdom of ,god has         come upon

enter the house of a strong man and

first of all he masters and secures     
the strong man3  then he will ransack

 with me is against me1 and he who is

why ,i tell you that men may find       
forgiveness for every         other sin 
and impious word1 but that for impious

the foul spirit gone out of the man1    
then he roams about in places where

and brings back with him seven other

 condition becomes worse than it was at

,listen1 every one who has ears6

asked ,him1 ,why do you speak         to
 them in figurative language8  #jac3jaa 
,because1 ,he replied1 while to you it  
is granted to know         the secrets  
of the ,kingdom of the ,heavens1 to them
 it is not4  #jac3jab ,for whoever has1 
to him more shall be given1 and he shall
         have abundance2 but whoever has
 not1 from him even what he has         
shall be taken away4  #jac3jac ,i speak 
to them in figurative language for this 
reason1         that while looking they 
do not see1 and while hearing they

,and in regard to them the prophecy of  
,isaiah is receiving         signal     
fulfilment3  ,you will hear and hear and
 by no         means understand1 and you
 will look and look and by no means see4
  #jac3jae ,for this people's mind is   
stupefied1 their hearing has            

become dull1 and their eyes they have   
closed2 to prevent         their ever   
seeing with their eyes1 or hearing with 
their ears1         or understanding    
with their minds1 and turning back1

,but as for you1 blessed are your eyes1 
for they see1         and your ears1 for
 they hear4  #jac3jag ,for ,i solemnly  
tell you that many ,prophets and holy   
men have         longed to see the      
sights you see1 and have not seen them1 
and to hear the words you hear1 and have
 not heard them4  #jac3jah ,to you then 
,i will explain the parable of the      
,sower4  #jac3jai ,when a man hears the 
,message concerning the ,kingdom and    
does         not understand it1 the     
,evil one comes and catches away what   
has         been sown in his heart4     
,this is he who has received the seed   
by the road-side4  #jac3jbj ,he who has 
received the seed on the rocky ground is
 the man         who hears the ,message 
and immediately receives it with joy4   

#jac3jba ,it has struck no root1        
however1 within him4  ,he continues     
for a time1 but when suffering comes1 or
 persecution1         because of the    
,message1 he at once stumbles and falls4
  #jac3jbb ,he who has received the seed
 among the thorns is the man         who
 hears the ,message1 but the cares of   
the present age         and the         
delusions of riches quite stifle the    
,message1         and it becomes

received the seed on good ground is he  
who hears         and understands4      
,such hearers give a return1 and yield  
one         a hundred for one1 another  
sixty1 another thirty47  #jac3jbd       
,another parable ,he put before them4   
,the ,kingdom of         the ,heavens1  
,he said1 may be compared to a man who  
has sown         good seed in his field1
  #jac3jbe but during the night his     
enemy comes1 and over the first seed    
he sows darnel among the wheat1 and goes
 away4  #jac3jbf ,but when the blade    

shoots up and the grain is formed1      
then appears the darnel also4  #jac3jbg 
,so the farmer's men come and ask him1  
,sir1 was it not         good seed that 
you sowed on your land8  ,where then    
does         the darnel come from8'     
#jac3jbh ,some enemy has done this1' he 
said4  ,shall we go1         and collect
 it8' the men inquire4  #jac3jbi ,no1'  
he replied1 for fear that while         
collecting the darnel         you should
 at the same time root up the wheat with
 it4  #jac3jcj ,leave both to grow      
together until the harvest1 and at      
harvest-time         ,i will direct the 
reapers1 ,collect the darnel first1     
and make it up into bundles to burn it1 
but bring all the wheat         into my 
barn4'  #jac3jca ,another parable ,he   
put before them4  ,the ,kingdom of      
the ,heavens1 ,he said1 is like a       
mustard-seed1 which a man         takes 
and sows in his ground4  #jac3jcb ,it is
 the smallest of all seeds1 and yet when
 full-grown it         is larger than   

any herb and forms a tree1 so that the  
birds         come and build in its     
branches4  #jac3jcc ,another parable ,he
 spoke to them4  ,the ,kingdom of       
the ,heavens1 ,he said1 is like yeast   
which a woman takes         and buries  
in a bushel of flour1 for it to work    
there till         the whole mass has   
risen4  #jac3jcd ,all this ,jesus spoke 
to the people in figurative language1   
and except in figurative language ,he   
spoke nothing to them1  #jac3jce in     
fulfilment of the saying of the         
,prophet1 ,i will open         my mouth 
in figurative language1 ,i will utter   
things kept         hidden since the    
creation of all things4  #jac3jcf ,when 
,he had dismissed the people and had    
returned to the house1         ,his     
disciples came to ,him with the request1
 ,explain to us         the parable of  
the darnel sown in the field4  #jac3jcg 
,the sower of the good seed1 ,he        
replied1 is the ,son of ,man2  #jac3jch 
the field is the world2 the good        

seed--these are the sons         of the 
,kingdom2 the darnel1 the sons of the   
,evil one4  #jac3jci ,the enemy who sows
 the darnel is 99the ,devil992 the      
harvest         is the ,close of the    
,age2 the reapers are the angels4       
#jac3jdj ,as then the darnel is         
collected together and burnt up with    
fire1         so will it be at the      
,close of the ,age4  #jac3jda ,the ,son 
of ,man will commission ,his angels1 and
 they will gather         out of ,his   
,kingdom all causes of sin and all who

they will throw into the fiery furnace4 
,there will be the weeping aloud and the
 gnashing of teeth4  #jac3jdc ,then will
 the righteous shine out like the sun in
 their         ,father's ,kingdom4      
,listen1 every one who has ears6        
#jac3jdd ,the ,kingdom of the ,heavens  
is like treasure buried in         the  
open country1 which a man finds1 but    
buries again1 and1         in his joy   
about it1 goes and sells all he has and 

buys         that piece of ground4      
#jac3jde ,again the ,kingdom of the     
,heavens is like a jewel merchant       
who is in quest of choice pearls4       
#jac3jdf ,he finds one most costly      
pearl2 he goes away2 and though it      
costs all he has1 he buys it4  #jac3jdg 
,again the ,kingdom of the ,heavens is  
like a draw-net let         down into   
the sea1 which encloses fish of all     
sorts4  #jac3jdh ,when full1 they haul  
it up on the beach1 and sit down and    
collect         the good fish in        
baskets1 while the worthless they throw 
away4  #jac3jdi ,so will it be at the   
,close of the ,age4  ,the angels will go
         forth and separate the wicked  
from among the righteous1  #jac3jej and 
will throw them into the fiery furnace4 
,there will be         the weeping aloud
 and the gnashing of teeth4  #jac3jea   
,have you understood all this8  ,he     
asked4  ,yes1 they said4  #jac3jeb      
,therefore1 ,he said1 remember that     
every ,scribe well trained         for  

the ,kingdom of the ,heavens is like a  
householder who brings         out of   
his storehouse new things and old4      
#jac3jec ,jesus concluded this series of
 parables and then departed4  #jac3jed  
,and ,he came into ,his own country and 
proceeded to teach in         their     
synagogue1 so that they were filled with
 astonishment         and exclaimed1    
,where did he obtain such wisdom1

 not this the carpenter's son8  ,is not 
his mother called ,mary8         ,and   
are not his brothers1 ,james1 ,joseph1  
,simon and ,judah8  #jac3jef ,and his   
sisters--are they not all living here   
among us8         ,where then did he get

angrily away from ,him4  ,but ,jesus    
said to them1         ,there is no      
prophet left without honour except in   
his own         country and among his

 but few mighty deeds there because of

,about that time ,herod the ,tetrarch   
heard of the fame of ,jesus1  #jad3jjb  
and he said to his courtiers1 ,this is  
,john the ,baptist3         he has come 
back to life--and that is why these     
miraculous         ,powers are working  
in him4  #jad3jjc ,for ,herod had       
arrested ,john1 and had put him in      
chains1         and imprisoned him1 for 
the sake of ,herodias his               
brother ,philip's wife1  #jad3jjd       
because ,john had persistently said to  
him1 ,it is not lawful         for you  
to have her4  #jad3jje ,and he would    
have liked to put him to death1 but was 
afraid         of the people1 because   
they regarded ,john as a ,prophet4      
#jad3jjf ,but when ,herod's birthday    
came1 the daughter of ,herodias danced  
before all the company1 and so pleased  
,herod  #jad3jjg that with an oath he   
promised to give her whatever she asked4
  #jad3jjh ,so she1 instigated by her   
mother1 said1 ,give me here on a dish   
the head of ,john the ,baptist4         

#jad3jji ,the king was deeply vexed1 yet
 because of his repeated oath           
and of the guests at his table he       
ordered it to be given her1  #jad3jaj   
and he sent and beheaded ,john in the   
prison4  #jad3jaa ,the head was brought 
on a dish and given to the young girl1  
and she took it to her mother4  #jad3jab
 ,then ,john's disciples went and       
removed the body and buried it1         
and came and informed ,jesus4  #jad3jac 
,upon receiving these tidings1 ,jesus   
went away by boat to an                 
uninhabited and secluded district2 but  
the people heard of it         and      
followed ,him in crowds from the towns  
by land4  #jad3jad ,so ,jesus went out  
and saw an immense multitude1 and felt  
compassion         for them1 and cured  
those of them who were out of health4   
#jad3jae ,but when evening was come1 the
 disciples came to ,him and said1       
,this is an uninhabited place1 and the  
best of the day is         now gone2    
send the people away to go into the     

villages and buy         something to   
eat4  #jad3jaf ,they need not go away1  
replied ,jesus2 you yourselves must     
give them something to eat4  #jad3jag   
,we have nothing here1 they said1 but   
five loaves and a         couple of     
fish4  #jad3jah ,bring them here to me1 
,he said1  #jad3jai and ,he told all the
 people to sit down on the grass4       
,then ,he took the five loaves and the  
two fish1 and after         looking up  
to heaven and blessing them1 ,he broke  
up the loaves         and gave them to  
the disciples1 and the disciples        
distributed         them to the people4 
#jad3jbj ,so all ate1 and were fully    
satisfied4  ,the broken portions        
that remained over they gathered up1    
filling twelve baskets4  #jad3jba ,those
 who had eaten were about #e1jjj adult  
men1 without reckoning         women and
 children4  #jad3jbb ,immediately       
afterwards ,he made the disciples go on 
board         the boat and cross to the 
opposite shore1 leaving ,him         to 

dismiss the people4  #jad3jbc ,when ,he 
had done this1 ,he climbed the hill to  
pray in solitude4         ,night came   
on1 and he was there alone4  #jad3jbd   
,meanwhile the boat was far out on the  
,lake1 buffeted and tossed         by   
the waves1 the wind being adverse4      
#jad3jbe ,but towards daybreak ,he went 
to them1 walking over the waves4        
#jad3jbf ,when the disciples saw ,him   
walking on the waves1 they were         
greatly alarmed4  ,it is a spirit1 they 
exclaimed1 and they         cried out

,jesus spoke to them1 and said1 ,there  
is no danger2         it is ,i2 do not  
be afraid4  #jad3jbh ,master1 answered  
,peter1 if it is you1 bid me come to you

,come1 said ,jesus4  ,then ,peter       
climbed down from the boat         and  
walked upon the water to go to ,him4

grew frightened1 and beginning          
to sink he cried out1 ,master1 save me4

 ,his hand and caught hold of him1      
saying to him1 ,o little faith1 why did

into the boat1 and the wind lulled2     
#jad3jcc and the men on board fell down 
before him and said1 ,you are           
indeed ,god's ,son4  #jad3jcd ,when they
 had quite crossed over1 they put ashore

of the place1 recognizing ,him1 sent    
word into all         the country round4
  ,so they brought all the sick to ,him1
  #jad3jcf and they entreated ,him that 
they might but touch the tassel         
of ,his outer garment2 and all who did  
so were restored         to perfect

,jesus a party of ,pharisees and        
,scribes         from ,jerusalem1 who   
inquired1  #jae3jjb ,why do your        
disciples transgress the tradition of   
the ,elders         by not washing their
 hands before meals8  #jae3jjc ,why do  
you1 too1 ,he retorted1 transgress      

,god's commands         for the sake of 
your tradition8  #jae3jjd ,for ,god     
said1 ,honour thy father and thy        
mother'2 and ,let him         who       
reviles father or mother be certainly   
put to death'2  #jae3jje but you--this  
is what you say3  ,if a man says to his 
father         or mother1 ,that is      
consecrated1 whatever it is1 which      
otherwise         you should have       
received from me--  #jae3jjf he shall be
 absolved from honouring his father'2   
and so you         have abrogated ,god's
 ,word for the sake of your tradition4  
#jae3jjg ,hypocrites6 well did ,isaiah  
prophesy of you1  #jae3jjh ,this is a   
,people who honour ,me with their lips1 
while their         heart is far away   
from ,me2  #jae3jji but it is in vain   
they worship ,me1 while they lay down   
precepts         which are mere human   
rules4'  #jae3jaj ,then1 when ,he had   
called the people to ,him1 ,jesus said1 
,hear and understand4  #jae3jaa ,it is  
not what goes into a man's mouth that   

defiles him2         but it is what     
comes out of his mouth--that99 defiles a
 man4  #jae3jab ,then ,his disciples    
came and said to ,him1 ,do you know that
 the         ,pharisees were greatly    
shocked when they heard those words8    
#jae3jac ,every plant1 ,he replied1     
which my ,heavenly ,father has not      
planted will be rooted up4  #jae3jad    
,leave them alone4  ,they are blind     
guides of the blind2         and if a   
blind man leads a blind man1 both will

understand that whatever enters the     
mouth passes         into the stomach

fornication1 theft1 perjury1 impiety of

which defile the man2 but eating with   
unwashed hands does not defile4

they found that they had forgotten to

,jesus said to them1 ,see to it3  beware

among themselves1 saying1 ,it is because
 we         have not brought any bread4

 ,why are you reasoning         among   
yourselves1 you men of little faith1

understand that it was not about bread

cloud spread over them2         and a   
voice was heard from within the cloud1

faces         and were filled with

descending the mountain1 ,jesus laid a

 ,he said1 of the sight you have seen   
till         the ,son of ,man has risen

then1 asked the disciples1 do the       
,scribes say that ,elijah         must  
first come8  #jag3jaa ,elijah was indeed
 to come1 ,he replied1 and would

they did         not recognize him1 but 
dealt with him as they chose4           
,and before long the ,son of ,man will  
be treated by them         in a similar

disciples that it was ,john the ,baptist
         about whom ,he had spoken to   
them4  #jag3jad ,when they had returned 
to the people1 there came to ,him a man 
who fell on his knees before ,him and   
besought ,him4  #jag3jae ,sir1 he said1 
have pity on my son1 for he is an       
epileptic         and is very ill4      
,often he falls into the fire and often 
into the water4  #jag3jaf ,i have       
brought him to your disciples1 and they 
have not been         able to cure him4 
#jag3jag ,o unbelieving and perverse    
generation6 replied ,jesus2         how 
long shall ,i be with you8 how long     
shall ,i endure you8         ,bring him 
to me4  #jag3jah ,then ,jesus           
reprimanded the demon1 and it came out  
and left him2         and the boy was   
cured from that moment4  #jag3jai ,then 
the disciples came to ,jesus privately  
and asked ,him1 ,why could         not

your faith is so small1 ,he replied2 for

 ,i solemnly         declare to you that
 if you have faith like a mustard-seed1 
you shall say to this mountain1 ,remove 
from this place to that1'         and it
 will remove2 and nothing shall be

evil spirit of this kind is only driven 
out by         prayer and fasting4      
#jag3jbb ,as they were travelling about 
in ,galilee1 ,jesus said to them1       
,the ,son of ,man is about to be        
betrayed into the hands of men2

but on the third day ,he will be        
raised to life again4  ,and they were

 their arrival at ,capernaum the        
collectors of the half-shekel           
came and asked ,peter1 ,does not your   
,teacher pay the half-shekel8  #jag3jbe 
,yes1 he replied1 and then went into the
 house4  ,but before         he spoke a 
word ,jesus said1 ,what think you1      
,simon8  ,from whom         do this     
world's kings receive customs or        

capitation tax8         from their own  
children1 or from others8  #jag3jbf     
,from others1 he replied4  ,then the    
children go free1 said ,jesus4  #jag3jbg
 ,however1 lest we cause them to sin1 go
 and throw a hook         into the      
,lake1 and take the first fish that     
comes up4         ,when you open its    
mouth1 you will find a shekel in it3    
bring that coin and give it to them for 
yourself and me4  #jah3jja ,just then   
the disciples came to ,jesus and asked1 
,who ranks         higher than others in
 the ,kingdom of the ,heavens8  #jah3jjb
 ,so ,he called a young child to ,him1  
and1 bidding him stand         in the   
midst of them1  #jah3jjc said1 ,in      
solemn truth ,i tell you that unless you
 turn and         become like little    
children1 you will in no case be        
admitted         into the ,kingdom of   
the ,heavens4  #jah3jjd ,whoever        
therefore shall humble himself as this  
young child1         he it is who is    
superior to others in the ,kingdom of   

the ,heavens4  #jah3jje ,and whoever for
 my sake receives one young child such  
as this1 receives me4  #jah3jjf ,but    
whoever shall occasion the fall of one  
of these little         ones who believe
 in me1 it would be better for him to   
have         a millstone hung round his 
neck and to be drowned in the depths    
of the sea4  #jah3jjg ,alas for the     
world because of causes of falling6     
,they cannot         but come1 but alas 
for each man through whom they come6    
#jah3jjh ,if your hand or your foot is  
causing you to fall into sin1           
cut it off and away with it4  ,it is    
better for you to enter         into    
,life crippled in hand or foot than to  
remain in possession         of two     
sound hands or feet but be thrown into  
the fire         of the ,ages4  #jah3jji
 ,and if your eye is causing you to fall
 into sin1 tear it out         and away 
with it2 it is better for you to enter  
into ,life         with only one eye1   
than to remain in possession of two eyes

         but be thrown into the ,gehenna
 of fire4  #jah3jaj ,beware of ever     
despising one of these little ones1 for 
,i         tell you that in ,heaven     
their angels have continual access      
to my ,father who is in ,heaven4        
#jah3jaa   #jah3jab ,what do you        
yourselves think8  ,suppose a man gets a
 hundred sheep         and one of them  
strays away1 will he not leave the      
ninety-nine         on the hills and go 
and look for the one that is straying8  
#jah3jac ,and if he succeeds in finding 
it1 in solemn truth ,i tell you         
that he rejoices over it more than he   
does over the ninety-nine         that  
have not gone astray4  #jah3jad ,just so
 it is not the will of your ,father in  
,heaven that one         of these little
 ones should be lost4  #jah3jae ,if your
 brother acts wrongly towards you1 go   
and point         out his fault to him  
when only you and he are there4         
,if he listens to you1 you have gained  
your brother4  #jah3jaf ,but if he will 

not listen to you1 go again1 and ask one
 or         two to go with you1 that    
every word spoken may be attested       
by two or three witnesses4  #jah3jag ,if
 he refuses to hear them1 appeal to the 
,church2 and if         he refuses to   
hear even the ,church1 regard him just  
as you         regard a ,gentile or a   
tax-gatherer4  #jah3jah ,i solemnly tell
 you that whatever you as a ,church bind
 on earth         will in ,heaven be    
held as bound1 and whatever you loose   
on earth will in ,heaven be held to be  
loosed4  #jah3jai ,i also solemnly tell 
you that if two of you here on earth    
agree         together concerning       
anything whatever that they shall ask1  
the boon will come to them from my      
,father who is in ,heaven4  #jah3jbj    
,for where there are two or three       
assembled in my name1         there am

this point ,peter came to ,him with the 
question1 ,master1         how often    
shall my brother act wrongly towards me 

and ,i         forgive him8 seven times8

answered ,jesus1 but seventy

reason the ,kingdom of the ,heavens may 
be compared         to a king who       
determined to have a settlement of      
accounts         with his servants4

settlement1 one was brought before

and was unable to pay4  ,so his master  
ordered that he and his         wife and
 children and everything that he had    
should be sold1         and payment be

falling down1 prostrated himself at     
his feet and entreated him4  ,only give 
me time1' he said1         and ,i will  
pay you the whole4'  #jah3jbg ,whereupon
 his master1 touched with compassion1   
set him free         and forgave him the
 debt4  #jah3jbh ,but no sooner had that
 servant gone out1 than he met with one 
of his fellow servants who owed him #ajj

 shillings2 and seizing         him by  
the throat and nearly strangling him he 
exclaimed1         ,pay me all you owe4'

 fell at his feet and entreated him1    
,only give me time1' he said1 and ,i

however1 but went and threw him into    
prison         until he should pay what

also to have had pity on your fellow

         until he should pay all he owed

discourses1 ,he removed from ,galilee   
and came into that part of ,judaea which
 lay beyond the ,jordan4  #jai3jjb ,and 
a vast multitude followed him1 and ,he  
cured them there4  #jai3jjc ,then came  
some of the ,pharisees to ,him to put   
,him to the proof         by the        
question1 ,has a man a right to divorce 
his wife         whenever he chooses8   
#jai3jjd ,have you not read1 ,he        
replied1 that ,he who made them made    
them'         from the beginning male   
and female1  #jai3jje and said1 ,for    
this reason a man shall leave his father
 and mother         and be united to his
 wife1 and the two shall be one'8

but one'6  ,what therefore ,god         
has joined together1 let not man

they1 did ,moses command the husband to 
give         her a written notice of

 ,moses1 ,he replied1 in consideration  
of the hardness of your         nature  
permitted you to put away your wives1   
but it has not         been so from the 
beginning4  #jai3jji ,and ,i tell you   
that whoever divorces his wife for any  
reason except         her               
unfaithfulness1 and marries another     
woman1 commits adultery4  #jai3jaj ,if  
this is the case with a man in relation 
to his wife1         said the disciples 
to ,him1 it is better not to marry4     
#jai3jaa ,it is not every man1 ,he      
replied1 who can receive this teaching1 
but only those on whom the grace has    
been bestowed4  #jai3jab ,there are men 
who from their birth have been disabled 
from marriage1         others who have  
been so disabled by men1 and others who 
have         disabled themselves for the
 sake of the ,kingdom of the ,heavens4  
,he who is able to receive this1 let him
 receive it4  #jai3jac ,then young      
children were brought to ,him for ,him  

to put ,his         hands on them and   
pray2 but the disciples interfered4     
#jai3jad ,jesus however said1 ,let the  
little children come to me1         and 
do not hinder them2 for it is to those  
who are childlike         that the      
,kingdom of the ,heavens belongs4       
#jai3jae ,so ,he laid ,his hands upon   
them and went away4  #jai3jaf ,teacher1 
said one man1 coming up to ,him1 what   
that is good         shall ,i do in     
order to win the ,life of the ,ages8

replied1 about what is good8            
,there is only ,one who is truly good4  
,but if you desire         to enter into
 ,life1 keep the ,commandments4         
#jai3jah ,which ,commandments8 he asked4
  ,jesus answered1 ,thou shalt          
not kill2' ,thou shalt not commit       
adultery2' ,thou shalt not steal2'      
,thou shalt not lie in giving evidence2'
  #jai3jai ,honour thy father and thy   
mother'2 and ,thou shalt love thy       
fellow man as much as thyself4'         

#jai3jbj ,all of these1 said the young  
man1 ,i have carefully kept4            
,what do ,i still lack8  #jai3jba ,if   
you desire to be perfect1 replied       
,jesus1 go and sell         all that you
 have1 and give to the poor1 and you    
shall have         wealth in ,heaven2   
and come1 follow me4  #jai3jbb ,on      
hearing those words the young man went  
away much cast down2         for he had 
much property4  #jai3jbc ,so ,jesus said
 to ,his disciples1 ,i solemnly tell you
 that it         is with difficulty that
 a rich man will enter the ,kingdom     
of the ,heavens4  #jai3jbd ,yes1 ,i tell
 you1 it is easier for a camel to go    
through the eye         of a needle than
 for a rich man to enter the ,kingdom of
 ,god4  #jai3jbe ,these words utterly   
amazed the disciples1 and they asked1   
,who then can be saved8  #jai3jbf ,jesus
 looked at them and said1 ,with men this
 is impossible1         but with ,god   
everything is possible4  #jai3jbg ,then 
,peter said to ,jesus1 ,see1 99we99 have

 forsaken everything         and        
followed you2 what then will be 99our99 
reward8  #jai3jbh ,i solemnly tell you1 
replied ,jesus1 that in the ,new        
,creation1         when the ,son of ,man
 has taken ,his seat on ,his glorious   
throne1         all of you who have     
followed me shall also sit on twelve    
thrones and judge the twelve tribes of

forsaken houses1 or brothers or sisters1
         or father or mother1 or        
children or lands1 for my sake1         
shall receive many times as much and    
shall have as his         inheritance

the ,heavens is like an employer who    
went         out early in the morning to

,about nine o'clock he went out and saw 
others loitering         in the

vineyard1         and whatever is right

went4  ,again about twelve1 and about   
three o'clock1         he went out and

about five o'clock he found others      
loitering1         and he asked them1   
,why have you been standing here all

,because no one has hired us1' they

one alone         is your ,teacher1 and

call no one on earth your ,father1 for  
,one alone is your ,father--         the
 ,heavenly ,father4  #jbc3jaj ,and do   
not accept the name of leader1' for your
 ,leader is         one alone--the      
,christ4  #jbc3jaa ,he who is the       
greatest among you shall be your        
servant2  #jbc3jab and one who exalts   
himself shall be abased1 while one who  
abases         himself shall be exalted4

lock the door of the ,kingdom of the

allow those to enter         who are

you have neglected         the weightier
 requirements of the ,law--just         
judgement1 mercy1         and faithful

have done1         and yet you ought not
 to have left the others undone4

out the gnat while you gulp         down

eye1 though inside they are full of dead
 men's bones         and of all that is

you3  outwardly you seem to the human   
eye to be good and honest men1 but1     
within1 you are full         of         
insincerity and disregard of ,god's

repair         the sepulchres of the    
,prophets and keep in order the tombs   
of the righteous1  #jbc3jcj and your    
boast is1 ,if we had lived in the time  
of our forefathers1         we should   
not have been implicated with them in   
the murder         of the ,prophets4'   
#jbc3jca ,so that you bear witness      
against yourselves that you are         
descendants of those who murdered the

measure of your forefathers' guilt4

how are you to escape

them you will flog in your synagogues

from the others1         and said1 ,tell
 us when this will be2 and what will be 
the sign         of your ,coming and of

care that no one misleads you1 answered

against nation1 kingdom against kingdom1
         and there will be famines and

 but all these miseries are but like the
 early pains of childbirth4  #jbd3jji   
,at that time they will deliver you up  
to punishment and will         put you  
to death2 and you will be objects of    
hatred to all         the nations       
because you are called by my name4      
#jbd3jaj ,then will many stumble and    
fall1 and they will betray one          
another and hate one another4  #jbd3jaa 
,many false prophets will rise up and   
lead multitudes astray2  #jbd3jab and   
because of the prevalent disregard of   
,god's law the love         of the great
 majority will grow cold2  #jbd3jac but 
those who stand firm to the ,end shall  

be saved4  #jbd3jad ,and this ,good     
,news of the ,kingdom shall be          
proclaimed throughout         the whole 
world to set the evidence before all the
 ,gentiles2         and then the ,end   
will come4  #jbd3jae ,when you have seen
 7to use the language of the ,prophet   
,daniel7         the ,abomination of    
,desolation'1 standing in the ,holy     
,place--         let the reader observe 
those words--  #jbd3jaf then let those  
who are in ,judaea escape to the hills2 
#jbd3jag let him who is on the roof not 
go down to fetch what is         in his 
house2  #jbd3jah nor let him who is     
outside the city stay to pick up        
his outer garment4  #jbd3jai ,and alas  
for the women who at that time are with 
child         or have infants6  #jbd3jbj
 ,but pray that your flight may not be  
in winter1 nor on the ,sabbath2         
#jbd3jba for it will be a time of great 
suffering1 such as never has            
been from the beginning of the world    
till now1 and assuredly         never

days had not been cut short1 no one     
would escape2         but for the sake  
of ,god's own ,people those days will be

any one should say to you1 ,see1 here is

will rise up false ,christs and false   
prophets1         displaying wonderful  
signs and prodigies1 so as to deceive1  
were it possible1 even ,god's own       
,people4  #jbd3jbe ,remember1 ,i have   
forewarned you4  #jbd3jbf ,if therefore 
they should say to you1 ,see1 ,he is in 
the ,desert6'         do not go out     
there3  or ,see1 ,he is indoors in the  
room6'         do not believe it4       
#jbd3jbg ,for just as the lightning     
flashes in the east and is seen         
to the very west1 so will be the ,coming
 of the ,son of ,man4  #jbd3jbh         
,wherever the dead body is1 there will  
the vultures flock together4  #jbd3jbi  
,but immediately after those times of   

distress the sun will         be        
darkened1 the moon will not shed her    
light1 the stars         will fall from 
the firmament1 and the forces which     
control         the heavens will be

,then will appear the ,sign of the ,son 
of ,man in the sky2         and then    
will all the nations of the earth       
lament1 when they         see the ,son  
of ,man coming on the clouds of the sky 
with great         power and glory4

angels with a loud trumpet-blast1       
and they will bring together ,his own   
,people to ,him from north1             
south1 east and west--from one extremity
 of the world         to the other4     
#jbd3jcb ,now learn from the fig-tree   
the lesson it teaches4         ,as soon 
as its branches have now become soft and
 it is bursting         into leaf1 you

,so you also1 when you see all these    
signs1 may be sure that ,he         is

tell you in solemn truth that the       
present generation will                 
certainly not pass away without all     
these things having         first taken

pass away1 but it is certain that my    
words         will not pass away4

exact time no one knows--not even       
the angels of heaven1 nor the ,son1 but

was in the time of ,noah1 so it will be 
at the ,coming         of the ,son of

the ,deluge1 men were busy eating and   
drinking1         taking wives or giving

 realise any danger till the ,deluge

 will it be at the ,coming of the ,son

 had known         the hour at which the
 robber was coming1 he would have kept

,therefore you also must be ready2 for  
it is at a time when you         do not

loyal and intelligent servant to whom   
his master has entrusted the control of

did not provide         themselves with

time in coming1 so that meanwhile

 and entrusted his property to their

one--         to each according to his  
individual capacity2 and then

delay the one who had received the five

 said1 ,i now put         you on your

you will see the ,son of ,man sitting at

people not belonging         to the

piece of ground received the name1      
which it still bears1 of the ,field of

the words spoken by the ,prophet        
,jeremiah1 ,and ,i         took the     
thirty shekels1 the price of the prized 
one on whom         ,israelites had set

 potter's field1 as the ,lord directed

brought before the ,governor1 and the   
latter         put the question1 ,are

earthquake         and the other        
occurrences they were filled with       
terror1         and exclaimed1

 ,and there were a number of women there
 looking on from         a distance1 who
 had followed ,jesus from ,galilee      
ministering         to ,his necessities2

there came a wealthy inhabitant of

were both present there1         sitting

,on the next day1 the day after the     
,preparation1 the ,high ,priests        
and the ,pharisees came in a body to

recollect that during his lifetime      
that impostor pretended that after two  
days he was to rise         to life

 sepulchre to be securely guarded till  
the third day1 for fear his disciples   
should come by night         and steal

he has come         back to life2 and so

 the last imposture will be more serious

,but to their amazement there had been a
 great earthquake2         for an angel 
of the ,lord had descended from ,heaven1
 and had         come and rolled back   
the stone1 and was sitting upon it4

lightning1 and his raiment white as     
snow4  #jbh3jjd ,for fear of him the    
guards trembled violently1 and became   
like dead men4  #jbh3jje ,but the angel 
said to the women1 ,as for you1 dismiss 
your fears4         ,i know that it is  
,jesus that you are looking for--

 here3  ,he has come back to life1 as   
,he foretold4         ,come and see the

quickly and tell ,his disciples that ,he
 has risen         from the dead and is

latter held a conference with the       

,elders1 and after         consultation 
with them they heavily bribed the

 ,his disciples came during the night   
and stole his body while we were asleep4

reported to the ,governor1         we   
will satisfy him and screen you from

money and did as they were instructed2  
and this story was noised about among   
the ,jews1 and is current         to

disciples1 they proceeded into ,galilee1
         to the hill where ,jesus had

they saw ,him and prostrated themselves 
before ,him4         ,yet some doubted4

said to them1 ,all power in ,heaven     
and over the earth has been given to me4

baptize them into the name of the
