,syria4 ,he was by profession a physician2 and some ancient writers say1 that he was very skillful in painting4 ,he was converted by ,st4 ,paul and became his disciple and companion in his travels1 and fellow-labourer in the ministry of the ,gospel4 ,he wrote in ,greek1 about twenty-four years after our ,lord's ,ascension4 ,luke ,chapter #a ,the conception of ,john the ,baptist1 and of ,christ4 ,the visitation and canticle of the ,blessed ,virgin4 ,the birth of the ,baptist and the canticle of ,zachary4 #a3a4 ,forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a narration of the things that have been accomplished among us1 #a3b4 ,according as they have delivered them unto us1 who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word3 #a3c4 ,it seemed good to me also1 having diligently attained to all things from the beginning1 to write to thee in order1 most excellent ,theophilus1 #a3d4 ,that thou mayest know the verity of those words in which thou hast been instructed4 #a3e4 ,there was in the days of ,herod1 the king of ,judea1 a certain priest named ,zachary1 of the course of ,abia3 and his wife was of the daughters of ,aaron1 and her name ,elizabeth4 ,of the course of ,abia444 that is1 of the rank of ,abia1 which word in the ,greek is commonly put for the employment of one day3 but here for the functions of a whole week4 ,for1 by the appointment of ,david1 #a ,par4 #bd41 the descendants from ,aaron were divided into twenty-four families1 of which the eighth was ,abia1 from whom descended this ,zachary1 who at this time was in the week of his priestly functions4 #a3f4 ,and they were both just before ,god1 walking in all the commandments and justifications of the ,lord without blame4 #a3g4 ,and they had no son1 for that ,elizabeth was barren3 and they both were well advanced in years4 #a3h4 ,and it came to pass1 when he executed the priestly function in the order of his course before ,god1 #a3i4 ,according to the custom of the priestly office1 it was his lot to offer incense1 going into the temple of the ,lord4 #a3aj4 ,and all the multitude of the people was praying without1 at the hour of incense4 #a3aa4 ,and there appeared to him an angel of the ,lord1 standing on the right side of the altar of incense4 #a3ab4 ,and ,zachary seeing him1 was troubled3 and fear fell upon him4 #a3ac4 ,but the angel said to him3 ,fear not1 ,zachary1 for thy prayer is heard3 and thy wife ,elizabeth shall bear thee a son4 ,and thou shalt call his name ,john4 #a3ad4 ,and thou shalt have joy and gladness3 and many shall rejoice in his nativity4 #a3ae4 ,for he shall be great before the ,lord and shall drink no wine nor strong drink3 and he shall be filled with the ,holy ,ghost1 even from his mother's womb4 #a3af4 ,and he shall convert many of the children of ,israel to the ,lord their ,god4 #a3ag4 ,and he shall go before him in the spirit and power of ,elias3 that he may turn the hearts of the fathers unto the children and the incredulous to the wisdom of the just1 to prepare unto the ,lord a perfect people4 #a3ah4 ,and ,zachary said to the angel3 ,whereby shall ,i know this8 ,for ,i am an old man1 and my wife is advanced in years4 #a3ai4 ,and the angel answering1 said to him3 ,i am ,gabriel1 who stand before ,god and am sent to speak to thee and to bring thee these good tidings4 #a3bj4 ,and behold1 thou shalt be dumb and shalt not be able to speak until the day wherein these things shall come to pass3 because thou hast not believed my words1 which shall be fulfilled in their time4 #a3ba4 ,and the people were waiting for ,zachary3 and they wondered that he tarried so long in the temple4 #a3bb4 ,and when he came out1 he could not speak to them3 and they understood that he had seen a vision in the temple4 ,and he made signs to them and remained dumb4 #a3bc4 ,and it came to pass1 after the days of his office were accomplished1 he departed to his own house4 #a3bd4 ,and after those days1 ,elizabeth his wife conceived and hid herself five months1 saying3 #a3be4 ,thus hath the ,lord dealt with me in the days wherein he hath had regard to take away my reproach among men4 #a3bf4 ,and in the sixth month1 the angel ,gabriel was sent from ,god into a city of ,galilee1 called ,nazareth1 #a3bg4 ,to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was ,joseph1 of the house of ,david3 and the virgin's name was ,mary4 #a3bh4 ,and the angel being come in1 said unto her3 ,hail1 full of grace1 the ,lord is with thee3 blessed art thou among women4 #a3bi4 ,who having heard1 was troubled at his saying and thought with herself what manner of salutation this should be4 #a3cj4 ,and the angel said to her3 ,fear not1 ,mary1 for thou hast found grace with ,god4 #a3ca4 ,behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb and shalt bring forth a son3 and thou shalt call his name ,jesus4 #a3cb4 ,he shall be great and shall be called the ,son of the ,most ,high4 ,and the ,lord ,god shall give unto him the throne of ,david his father3 and he shall reign in the house of ,jacob for ever4 #a3cc4 ,and of his kingdom there shall be no end4 #a3cd4 ,and ,mary said to the angel3 ,how shall this be done1 because ,i know not man8 #a3ce4 ,and the angel answering1 said to her3 ,the ,holy ,ghost shall come upon thee and the power of the ,most ,high shall overshadow thee4 ,and therefore also the ,holy which shall be born of thee shall be called the ,son of ,god4 #a3cf4 ,and behold thy cousin ,elizabeth1 she also hath conceived a son in her old age3 and this is the sixth month with her that is called barren4 #a3cg4 ,because no word shall be impossible with ,god4 #a3ch4 ,and ,mary said3 ,behold the handmaid of the ,lord3 be it done to me according to thy word4 ,and the angel departed from her4 #a3ci4 ,and ,mary rising up in those days1 went into the hill country with haste into a city of ,juda4 #a3dj4 ,and she entered into the house of ,zachary and saluted ,elizabeth4 #a3da4 ,and it came to pass that when ,elizabeth heard the salutation of ,mary1 the infant leaped in her womb4 ,and ,elizabeth was filled with the ,holy ,ghost4 #a3db4 ,and she cried out with a loud voice and said3 ,blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb4 #a3dc4 ,and whence is this to me that the mother of my ,lord should come to me8 #a3dd4 ,for behold as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears1 the infant in my womb leaped for joy4 #a3de4 ,and blessed art thou that hast believed1 because those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to thee by the ,lord4 #a3df4 ,and ,mary said3 ,my soul doth magnify the ,lord4 #a3dg4 ,and my spirit hath rejoiced in ,god my ,saviour4 #a3dh4 ,because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid3 for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed4 ,shall call me blessed444 ,these words are a prediction of that honour which the church in all ages should pay to the ,blessed ,virgin4 ,let ,protestants examine whether they are any way concerned in this prophecy4 #a3di4 ,because he that is mighty hath done great things to me3 and holy is his name4 #a3ej4 ,and his mercy is from generation unto generations1 to them that fear him4 #a3ea4 ,he hath shewed might in his arm3 he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart4 #a3eb4 ,he hath put down the mighty from their seat and hath exalted the humble4 #a3ec4 ,he hath filled the hungry with good things3 and the rich he hath sent empty away4 #a3ed4 ,he hath received ,israel his servant1 being mindful of his mercy4 #a3ee4 ,as he spoke to our fathers3 to ,abraham and to his seed for ever4 #a3ef4 ,and ,mary abode with her about three months4 ,and she returned to her own house4 #a3eg4 ,now ,elizabeth's full time of being delivered was come3 and she brought forth a son4 #a3eh4 ,and her neighbors and kinsfolks heard that the ,lord had shewed his great mercy towards her3 and they congratulated with her4 #a3ei4 ,and it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child3 and they called him by his father's name ,zachary4 #a3fj4 ,and his mother answering1 said3 ,not so4 ,but he shall be called ,john4 #a3fa4 ,and they said to her3 ,there is none of thy kindred that is called by this name4 #a3fb4 ,and they made signs to his father1 how he would have him called4 #a3fc4 ,and demanding a writing table1 he wrote1 saying3 ,john is his name4 ,and they all wondered4 #a3fd4 ,and immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed3 and he spoke1 blessing ,god4 #a3fe4 ,and fear came upon all their neighbours3 and all these things were noised abroad over all the hill country of ,judea4 #a3ff4 ,and all they that had heard them laid them up in their heart1 saying3 ,what an one1 think ye1 shall this child be8 ,for the hand of the ,lord was with him4 #a3fg4 ,and ,zachary his father was filled with the ,holy ,ghost4 ,and he prophesied1 saying3 #a3fh4 ,blessed be the ,lord ,god of ,israel3 because he hath visited and wrought the redemption of his people4 #a3fi4 ,and hath raised up an horn of salvation to us1 in the house of ,david his servant4 ,horn of salvation444 ,that is1 ,a powerful salvation1 as ,dr4 ,witham translates it4 ,for in the ,scripture1 by horn is generally understood strength and power4 #a3gj4 ,as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets1 who are from the beginning4 #a3ga4 ,salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all that hate us4 #a3gb4 ,to perform mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy testament4 #a3gc4 ,the oath1 which he swore to ,abraham our father1 that he would grant to us4 #a3gd4 ,that being delivered from the hand of our enemies1 we may serve him without fear3 #a3ge4 ,in holiness and justice before him1 all our days4 #a3gf4 ,and thou1 child1 shalt be called the prophet of the ,highest3 for thou shalt1 go before the face of the ,lord to prepare his ways3 #a3gg4 ,to give knowledge of salvation to his people1 unto the remission of their sins4 #a3gh4 ,through the bowels of the mercy of our ,god1 in which the ,orient from on high hath visited us3 ,the ,orient444 ,it is one of the titles of the ,messias1 the true light of the world1 and the sun of justice4 #a3gi4 ,to enlighten them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death3 to direct our feet into the way of peace4 #a3hj4 ,and the child grew and was strengthened in spirit3 and was in the deserts until the day of his manifestation to ,israel4 ,luke ,chapter #b ,the birth of ,christ4 ,his presentation in the temple4 ,simeon's prophecy4 ,christ at twelve years of age1 is found amongst the doctors4 #b3a4 ,and it came to pass that in those days there went out a decree from ,caesar ,augustus that the whole world should be enrolled4 #b3b4 ,this enrolling was first made by ,cyrinus1 the governor of ,syria4 #b3c4 ,and all went to be enrolled1 every one into his own city4 #b3d4 ,and ,joseph also went up from ,galilee1 out of the city of ,nazareth1 into ,judea1 to the city of ,david1 which is called ,bethlehem3 because he was of the house and family of ,david4 #b3e4 ,to be enrolled with ,mary his espoused wife1 who was with child4 #b3f4 ,and it came to pass that when they were there1 her days were accomplished that she should be delivered4 #b3g4 ,and she brought forth her first born son and wrapped him up in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger3 because there was no room for them in the inn4 ,her firstborn444 ,the meaning is1 not that she had afterward any other child2 but it is a way of speech among the ,hebrews1 to call them also the firstborn1 who are the only children4 ,see annotation ,matt4 #a4 #be4 #b3h4 ,and there were in the same country shepherds watching and keeping the night watches over their flock4 #b3i4 ,and behold an angel of the ,lord stood by them and the brightness of ,god shone round about them3 and they feared with a great fear4 #b3aj4 ,and the angel said to them3 ,fear not2 for1 behold1 ,i bring you good tidings of great joy that shall be to all the people3 #b3aa4 ,for1 this day is born to you a ,saviour1 who is ,christ the ,lord1 in the city of ,david4 #b3ab4 ,and this shall be a sign unto you4 ,you shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger4 #b3ac4 ,and suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army1 praising ,god and saying3 #b3ad4 ,glory to ,god in the highest3 and on earth peace to men of good will4 #b3ae4 ,and it came to pass1 after the angels departed from them into heaven1 the shepherds said one to another3 ,let us go over to ,bethlehem and let us see this word that is come to pass1 which the ,lord hath shewed to us4 #b3af4 ,and they came with haste3 and they found ,mary and ,joseph1 and the infant lying in the manger4 #b3ag4 ,and seeing1 they understood of the word that had been spoken to them concerning this child4 #b3ah4 ,and all that heard wondered3 and at those things that were told them by the shepherds4 #b3ai4 ,but ,mary kept all these words1 pondering them in her heart4 #b3bj4 ,and the shepherds returned1 glorifying and praising ,god for all the things they had heard and seen1 as it was told unto them4 #b3ba4 ,and after eight days were accomplished1 that the child should be circumcised1 his name was called ,,jesus1 which was called by the angel before he was conceived in the womb4 #b3bb4 ,and after the days of her purification1 according to the law of ,moses1 were accomplished1 they carried him to ,jerusalem1 to present him to the ,lord3 #b3bc4 ,as it is written in the law of the ,lord3 ,every male opening the womb shall be called holy to the ,lord3 #b3bd4 ,and to offer a sacrifice1 according as it is written in the law of the ,lord1 a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons3 #b3be4 ,and behold there was a man in ,jerusalem named ,simeon3 and this man was just and devout1 waiting for the consolation of ,israel4 ,and the ,holy ,ghost was in him4 #b3bf4 ,and he had received an answer from the ,holy ,ghost1 that he should not see death before he had seen the ,christ of the ,lord4 #b3bg4 ,and he came by the ,spirit into the temple4 ,and when his parents brought in the child ,jesus1 to do for him according to the custom of the law1 #b3bh4 ,he also took him into his arms and blessed ,god and said #b3bi4 ,now thou dost dismiss thy servant1 ,o ,lord1 according to thy word in peace3 #b3cj4 ,because my eyes have seen thy salvation1 #b3ca4 ,which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples3 #b3cb4 ,a light to the revelation of the ,gentiles and the glory of thy people ,israel4 #b3cc4 ,and his father and mother were wondering at those things which were spoken concerning him4 #b3cd4 ,and ,simeon blessed them and said to ,mary his mother3 ,behold this child is set for the fall and for the resurrection of many in ,israel and for a sign which shall be contradicted4 ,for the fall1 etc444 ,christ came for the salvation of all men2 but here ,simeon prophesies what would come to pass1 that many through their own wilful blindness and obstinacy would not believe in ,christ1 nor receive his doctrine1 which therefore would be ruin to them3 but to others a resurrection1 by their believing in him1 and obeying his commandments4 #b3ce4 ,and thy own soul a sword shall pierce1 that1 out of many hearts thoughts may be revealed4 #b3cf4 ,and there was one ,anna1 a prophetess1 the daughter of ,phanuel1 of the tribe of ,aser4 ,she was far advanced in years and had lived with her husband seven years from her virginity4 #b3cg4 ,and she was a widow until fourscore and four years3 who departed not from the temple1 by fastings and prayers serving night and day4 #b3ch4 ,now she1 at the same hour1 coming in1 confessed to the ,lord3 and spoke of him to all that looked for the redemption of ,israel4 #b3ci4 ,and after they had performed all things according to the law of the ,lord1 they returned into ,galilee1 to their city ,nazareth4 #b3dj4 ,and the child grew and waxed strong1 full of wisdom3 and the grace of ,god was in him4 #b3da4 ,and his parents went every year to ,jerusalem1 at the solemn day of the pasch4 #b3db4 ,and when he was twelve years old1 they going up into ,jerusalem1 according to the custom of the feast1 #b3dc4 ,and having fulfilled the days1 when they returned1 the child ,jesus remained in ,jerusalem4 ,and his parents knew it not4 #b3dd4 ,and thinking that he was in the company1 they came a day's journey and sought him among their kinsfolks and acquaintance4 #b3de4 ,and not finding him1 they returned into ,jerusalem1 seeking him4 #b3df4 ,and it came to pass1 that1 after three days1 they found him in the temple1 sitting in the midst of the doctors1 hearing them and asking them questions4 #b3dg4 ,and all that heard him were astonished at his wisdom and his answers4 #b3dh4 ,and seeing him1 they wondered4 ,and his mother said to him3 ,son1 why hast thou done so to us8 ,behold thy father and ,i have sought thee sorrowing4 #b3di4 ,and he said to them3 ,how is it that you sought me8 ,did you not know that ,i must be about my father's business8 #b3ej4 ,and they understood not the word that he spoke unto them4 #b3ea4 ,and he went down with them and came to ,nazareth and was subject to them4 ,and his mother kept all these words in her heart4 #b3eb4 ,and ,jesus advanced in wisdom and age and grace with ,god and men4 ,luke ,chapter #c ,john's mission and preaching4 ,christ is baptized by him4 #c3a4 ,now in the fifteenth year of the reign of ,tiberius ,caesar1 ,pontius ,pilate being governor of ,judea1 and ,herod being tetrarch of ,galilee1 and ,philip his brother tetrarch of ,iturea and the country of ,trachonitis1 and ,lysanias tetrarch of ,abilina3 #c3b4 ,under the high priests ,anna and ,caiphas3 the word of the ,lord was made unto ,john1 the son of ,zachary1 in the desert4 #c3c4 ,and he came into all the country about the ,jordan1 preaching the baptism of penance for the remission of sins4 #c3d4 ,as it was written in the book of the sayings of ,isaias the prophet3 ,a voice of one crying in the wilderness3 ,prepare ye the way of the ,lord1 make straight his paths4 #c3e4 ,every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be brought low3 and the crooked shall be made straight1 and the rough ways plain4 #c3f4 ,and all flesh shall see the salvation of ,god4 #c3g4 ,he said therefore to the multitudes that went forth to be baptized by him3 ,ye offspring of vipers1 who hath shewed you to flee from the wrath to come8 #c3h4 ,bring forth therefore fruits worthy of penance3 and do not begin to say1 ,we have ,abraham for our father4 ,for ,i say unto you that ,god is able of these stones1 to raise up children to ,abraham4 #c3i4 ,for now the axe is laid to the root of the trees4 ,every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit shall be cut down and cast into the fire4 #c3aj4 ,and the people asked him1 saying3 ,what then shall we do8 #c3aa4 ,and he answering1 said to them3 ,he that hath two coats1 let him give to him that hath none2 and he that hath meat1 let him do in like manner4 #c3ab4 ,and the publicans also came to be baptized and said to him3 ,master1 what shall we do8 #c3ac4 ,but he said to them3 ,do nothing more than that which is appointed you4 #c3ad4 ,and the soldiers also asked him1 saying3 ,and what shall we do8 ,and he said to them3 ,do violence to no man1 neither calumniate any man2 and be content with your pay4 #c3ae4 ,and as the people were of opinion1 and all were thinking in their hearts of ,john1 that perhaps he might be the ,christ3 #c3af4 ,john answered1 saying unto all3 ,i indeed baptize you with water3 but there shall come one mightier than ,i1 the latchet of whose shoes ,i am not worthy to loose4 ,he shall baptize you with the ,holy ,ghost and with fire2 #c3ag4 ,whose fan is in his hand3 and he will purge his floor and will gather the wheat into his barn3 but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire4 #c3ah4 ,and many other things exhorting did he preach to the people4 #c3ai4 ,but ,herod the tetrarch1 when he was reproved by him for ,herodias1 his brother's wife1 and for all the evils which ,herod had done3 #c3bj4 ,he added this also above all and shut up ,john in prison4 #c3ba4 ,now it came to pass1 when all the people were baptized1 that ,jesus also being baptized and praying1 heaven was opened4 #c3bb4 ,and the ,holy ,ghost descended in a bodily shape1 as a dove1 upon him4 ,and a voice came from heaven3 ,thou art my beloved ,son4 ,in thee ,i am well pleased4 #c3bc4 ,and ,jesus himself was beginning about the age of thirty years3 being 7as it was supposed7 the son of ,joseph1 who was of ,heli1 who was of ,mathat1 ,who was of ,heli444 ,st4 ,joseph1 who by nature was the son of ,jacob1 7,st4 ,matt4 #a4 #af17 in the account of the law1 was son of ,heli4 ,for ,heli and ,jacob were brothers1 by the same mother2 and ,heli1 who was the elder1 dying without issue1 ,jacob1 as the law directed1 married his widow3 in consequence of such marriage1 his son ,joseph was reputed in the law the son of ,heli4 #c3bd4 ,who was of ,levi1 who was of ,melchi4 who was of ,janne1 who was of ,joseph1 #c3be4 ,who was of ,mathathias1 who was of ,amos1 who was of ,nahum1 who was of ,hesli1 who was of ,nagge1 #c3bf4 ,who was of ,mahath1 who was of ,mathathias1 who was of ,semei1 who was of ,joseph1 who was of ,juda1 ,henos1 who was of ,seth1 who was of ,adam1 who was of ,god4 ,luke ,chapter #d ,christ's fasting and temptation4 ,he is persecuted in ,nazareth4 ,his miracles in ,capharnaum4 #d3a4 ,and ,jesus being full of the ,holy ,ghost1 returned from the ,jordan and was led the by the spirit into the desert1 #d3b4 ,for the space of forty days1 and was tempted by the devil4 ,and he ate nothing in those days4 ,and when they were ended1 he was hungry4 #d3c4 ,and the devil said to him3 ,if thou be the ,son of ,god1 say to this stone that it be made bread4 #d3d4 ,and ,jesus answered him3 is written that ,man liveth not by bread alone1 but by every word of ,god4 #d3e4 ,and the devil led him into a high mountain and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time4 #d3f4 ,and he said to him3 ,to thee will ,i give all this power and the glory of them4 ,for to me they are delivered3 and to whom ,i will1 ,i give them4 #d3g4 ,if thou therefore wilt adore before me1 all shall be thine4 #d3h4 ,and ,jesus answering said to him4 ,it is written3 ,thou shalt adore the ,lord thy ,god1 and him only shalt thou serve4 #d3i4 ,and he brought him to ,jerusalem and set him on a pinnacle of the temple and said to him3 ,if thou be the ,son of ,god1 cast thyself from hence4 #d3aj4 ,for it is written that ,he hath given his angels charge over thee that they keep thee4 #d3aa4 ,and that in their hands they shall bear thee up1 lest perhaps thou dash thy foot against a stone4 #d3ab4 ,and ,jesus answering1 said to him3 ,it is said3 ,thou shalt not tempt the ,lord thy ,god4 #d3ac4 ,and all the temptation being ended1 the devil departed from him for a time4 #d3ad4 ,and ,jesus returned in the power of the spirit1 into ,galilee3 and the fame of him went out through the whole country4 #d3ae4 ,and he taught in their synagogues and was magnified by all4 #d3af4 ,and he came to ,nazareth1 where he was brought up3 and he went into the synagogue1 according to his custom1 on the sabbath day3 and he rose up to read4 #d3ag4 ,and the book of ,isaias the prophet was delivered unto him4 ,and as he unfolded the book1 he found the place where it was written3 #d3ah4 ,the spirit of the ,lord is upon me4 ,wherefore he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor1 he hath sent me to heal the contrite of heart1 #d3ai4 ,to preach deliverance to the captives and sight to the blind1 to set at liberty them that are bruised1 to preach the acceptable year of the ,lord and the day of reward4 #d3bj4 ,and when he had folded the book1 he restored it to the minister and sat down4 ,and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him4 #d3ba4 ,and he began to say to them3 ,this day is fulfilled this scripture in your ears4 #d3bb4 ,and all gave testimony to him4 ,and they wondered at the words of grace that proceeded from his mouth4 ,and they said3 ,is not this the son of ,joseph8 #d3bc4 ,and he said to them3 ,doubtless you will say to me this similitude3 ,physician1 heal thyself4 ,as great things as we have heard done in ,capharnaum1 do also here in thy own country4 #d3bd4 ,and he said3 ,amen ,i say to you that no prophet is accepted in his own country4 #d3be4 ,in truth ,i say to ,you1 there were many widows in the days of ,elias in ,israel1 when heaven was shut up three years and six months1 when there was a great famine throughout all the earth4 #d3bf4 ,and to none of them was ,elias sent1 but to ,sarepta of ,sidon1 to a widow woman4 #d3bg4 ,and there were many lepers in ,israel in the time of ,eliseus the prophet3 and none of them was cleansed but ,naaman the ,syrian4 #d3bh4 ,and all they in the synagogue1 hearing these things1 were filled with anger4 #d3bi4 ,and they rose up and thrust him out of the city3 and they brought him to the brow of the hill whereon their city was built1 that they might cast him down headlong4 #d3cj4 ,but he passing through the midst of them1 went his way4 #d3ca4 ,and he went down into ,capharnaum1 a city of ,galilee3 and there he taught them on the sabbath days4 #d3cb4 ,and they were astonished at his doctrine3 for his speech was with power4 #d3cc4 ,and in the synagogue there was a man who had an unclean devil3 and he cried out with a loud voice1 #d3cd4 ,saying3 ,let us alone4 ,what have we to do with thee1 ,jesus of ,nazareth8 ,art thou come to destroy us8 ,i know thee who thou art1 the holy one of ,god4 #d3ce4 ,and ,jesus rebuked him1 saying3 ,hold thy peace and go out of him4 ,and when the devil had thrown him into the midst1 he went out of him and hurt him not at all4 #d3cf4 ,and there came fear upon all2 and they talked among themselves1 saying3 ,what word is this1 for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits1 and they go out8 #d3cg4 ,and the fame of him was published into every place of the country4 #d3ch4 ,and ,jesus rising up out of the synagogue1 went into ,simon's house4 ,and ,simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever3 and they besought him for her4 #d3ci4 ,and standing over her1 he commanded the fever3 and it left her4 ,and immediately rising1 she ministered to them4 #d3dj4 ,and when the sun was down1 all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them to him4 ,but he1 laying his hands on every one of them1 healed them4 #d3da4 ,and devils went out from many1 crying out and saying3 ,thou art the son of ,god4 ,and rebuking them he suffered them not to speak2 for they knew that he was ,christ4 #d3db4 ,and when it was day1 going out he went into a desert place3 and the multitudes sought him1 and came unto him4 ,and they stayed him that should not depart from them4 #d3dc4 ,to whom he said3 ,to other cities also ,i must preach the kingdom of ,god3 for therefore am ,i sent4 #d3dd4 ,and he was preaching in the synagogues of ,galilee4 ,luke ,chapter #e ,the miraculous draught of fishes4 ,the cure of the leper and of the paralytic4 ,the call of ,matthew4 #e3a4 ,and it came to pass1 that when the multitudes pressed upon him to hear the word of ,god1 he stood by the lake of ,genesareth1 #e3b4 ,and saw two ships standing by the lake3 but the fishermen were gone out of them and were washing their nets4 #e3c4 ,and going into one of the ships that was ,simon's1 he desired him to draw back a little from the land4 ,and sitting1 he taught the multitudes out of the ship4 #e3d4 ,now when he had ceased to speak1 he said to ,simon3 ,launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a draught4 #e3e4 ,and ,simon answering said to him3 ,master1 we have laboured all the night and have taken nothing3 but at thy word ,i will let down the net4 #e3f4 ,and when they had done this1 they enclosed a very great multitude of fishes3 and their net broke4 #e3g4 ,and they beckoned to their partners that were in the other ship1 that they should come and help them4 ,and they came and filled both the ships1 so that they were almost sinking4 #e3h4 ,which when ,simon ,peter saw1 he fell down at ,jesus' knees1 saying3 ,depart from me1 for ,i am a sinful man1 ,o ,lord4 #e3i4 ,for he was wholly astonished1 and all that were with him1 at the draught of the fishes which they had taken4 #e3aj4 ,and so were also ,james and ,john1 the sons of ,zebedee1 who were ,simon's partners4 ,and ,jesus saith to ,simon3 ,fear not3 from henceforth thou shalt catch men4 #e3aa4 ,and having brought their ships to land1 leaving all things1 they followed him4 #e3ab4 ,and it came to pass1 when he was in a certain city1 behold a man full of leprosy who1 seeing ,jesus and falling on his face1 besought him saying3 ,lord1 if thou wilt1 thou canst make me clean4 #e3ac4 ,and stretching forth his hand1 he touched him1 saying3 ,i will4 ,be thou cleansed4 ,and immediately the leprosy departed from him4 #e3ad4 ,and he charged him that he should tell no man1 but3 ,go1 shew thyself to the priest and offer for thy cleansing according as ,moses commanded1 for a testimony to them4 #e3ae4 ,but the fame of him went abroad the more3 and great multitudes came together to hear and to be healed by him of their infirmities4 #e3af4 ,and he retired into the desert2 and prayed4 #e3ag4 ,and it came to pass on a certain day1 as he sat teaching1 that there were also ,pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by1 that were come out of every town of ,galilee and ,judea and ,jerusalem3 and the power of the ,lord was to heal them4 #e3ah4 ,and behold1 men brought in a bed a man who had the palsy3 and they sought means to bring him in and to lay him before him4 #e3ai4 ,and when they could not find by what way they might bring him in1 because of the multitude1 they went up upon the roof and let him down through the tiles with his bed into the midst before ,jesus4 #e3bj4 ,whose faith when he saw1 he said3 ,man1 thy sins are forgiven thee4 #e3ba4 ,and the scribes and ,pharisees began to think1 saying3 ,who is this who speaketh blasphemies8 ,who can forgive sins1 but ,god alone8 #e3bb4 ,and when ,jesus knew their thoughts1 answering he said to them3 ,what is it you think in your hearts8 #e3bc4 ,which is easier to say3 ,thy sins are forgiven thee2 or to say3 ,arise and walk8 #e3bd4 ,but that you may know that the ,son of man hath the power on earth to forgive sins 7he saith to the sick of the palsy71 ,i say to thee to3 ,arise1 take up thy bed and go into thy house4 #e3be4 ,and immediately rising up before them1 he took up the bed on which he lay3 and he went away to his own house1 glorifying ,god4 #e3bf4 ,and all were astonished3 and they glorified ,god4 ,and they were filled with fear1 saying3 ,we have seen wonderful things to-day4 #e3bg4 ,and after these things1 he went forth and saw a publican named ,levi1 sitting at the receipt of custom3 and he said to him3 ,follow me4 #e3bh4 ,and leaving all things1 he rose up and followed him4 #e3bi4 ,and ,levi made him a great feast in his own house3 ,and there was a great company of publicans and of others that were at table with them4 #e3cj4 ,but the ,pharisees and scribes murmured1 saying to his disciples3 ,why do you eat and drink with publicans and sinners8 #e3ca4 ,and ,jesus answering1 said to them3 ,they that are whole need not the physician3 but they that are sick4 #e3cb4 ,i came not to call the just1 but sinners to penance4 #e3cc4 ,and they said to him3 ,why do the disciples of ,john fast often and make prayers1 and the disciples of the ,pharisees in like manner2 but thine eat and drink8 #e3cd4 ,to whom he said3 ,can you make the children of the bridegroom fast whilst the bridegroom is with them8 #e3ce4 ,but the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them3 then shall they fast in those days4 #e3cf4 ,and he spoke also a similitude to them3 ,that no man putteth a piece from a new garment upon an old garment3 otherwise he both rendeth the new1 and the piece taken from the new agreeth not with the old4 #e3cg4 ,and no man putteth new wine into old bottles3 otherwise the new wine will break the bottles2 and it will be spilled and the bottles will be lost4 #e3ch4 ,but new wine must be put into new bottles3 and both are preserved4 #e3ci4 ,and no man drinking old hath presently a mind to new3 for he saith3 ,the old is better4 ,luke through the corn fields1 his disciples plucked the ears and did eat1 rubbing them in their hands4 ,the second first sabbath444 ,some understand this of the sabbath of ,pentecost1 which was the second in course among the great feasts3 others1 of a sabbath day that immediately followed any solemn feast4 #f3b4 ,and some of the ,pharisees said to them3 ,why do you that which is not lawful on the sabbath days8 #f3c4 ,and ,jesus answering them1 said3 ,have you not read so much as this1 what ,david did1 when himself was hungry and they that were with him3 #f3d4 ,how he went into the house of ,god and took and ate the bread of proposition and gave to them that were with him1 which is not lawful to eat but only for the priests8 #f3e4 ,and he said to them3 ,the ,son of man is ,lord also of the sabbath4 #f3f4 ,and it came to pass also1 on another sabbath1 that he entered into the synagogue and taught4 ,and there was a man whose right hand was withered4 #f3g4 ,and the scribes and ,pharisees watched if he would heal on the sabbath3 that they might find an accusation against him4 #f3h4 ,but he knew their thoughts and said to the man who had the withered hand3 ,arise and stand forth in the midst4 ,and rising he stood forth4 #f3i4 ,then ,jesus said to them3 ,i ask you1 if it be lawful on the sabbath days to do good or to do evil8 ,to save life or to destroy8 #f3aj4 ,and looking round about on them all1 he said to the man3 ,stretch forth thy hand4 ,and he stretched it forth4 ,and his hand was restored4 #f3aa4 ,and they were filled with madness3 and they talked one with another1 what they might do to ,jesus4 #f3ab4 ,and it came to pass in those days1 that he went out into a mountain to pray3 and he passed the whole night in the prayer of ,god4 #f3ac4 ,and when day was come1 he called unto him his disciples3 and he chose twelve of them 7whom also he named apostles73 #f3ad4 ,simon1 whom he surnamed ,peter1 and ,andrew his brother1 ,james and ,john1 ,philip and ,bartholomew1 #f3ae4 ,matthew and ,thomas1 ,james the son of ,alpheus1 and ,simon who is called ,zelotes1 #f3af4 ,and ,jude the brother of ,james1 and ,judas ,iscariot1 who was the traitor4 #f3ag4 ,and coming down with them1 he stood in a plain place3 and the company of his disciples and a very great multitude of people from all ,judea and ,jerusalem and the sea coast1 both of ,tyre and ,sidon1 #f3ah4 ,who were come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases4 ,and they that were troubled with unclean spirits were cured4 #f3ai4 ,and all the multitude sought to touch him3 for virtue went out from him and healed all4 #f3bj4 ,and he1 lifting up his eyes on his disciples1 said3 ,blessed are ye poor3 for yours is the kingdom of ,god4 #f3ba4 ,blessed are ye that hunger now3 for you shall be filled4 ,blessed are ye that weep now3 for you shall laugh4 #f3bb4 ,blessed shall you be when men shall hate you1 and when they shall separate you and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil1 for the ,son of man's sake4 #f3bc4 ,be glad in that day and rejoice3 for behold1 your reward is great in heaven1 ,for according to these things did their fathers to the prophets4 #f3bd4 ,but woe to you that are rich3 for you have your consolation4 #f3be4 ,woe to you that are filled3 for you shall hunger4 ,woe to you that now laugh3 for you shall mourn and weep4 #f3bf4 ,woe to you when men shall bless you3 for according to these things did their fathers to the false prophets4 #f3bg4 ,but ,i say to you that hear3 ,love your enemies4 ,do good to them that hate you4 #f3bh4 ,bless them that curse you and pray for them that calumniate you4 #f3bi4 ,and to him that striketh thee on the one cheek1 offer also the other4 ,and him that taketh away from thee thy cloak1 forbid not to take thy coat also4 #f3cj4 ,give to every one that asketh thee3 and of him that taketh away thy goods1 ask them not again4 #f3ca4 ,and as you would that men should do to you1 do you also to them in like manner4 #f3cb4 ,and if you love them that love you1 what thanks are to you8 ,for sinners also love those that love them4 #f3cc4 ,and if you do good to them who do good to you1 what thanks are to you8 ,for sinners also do this4 #f3cd4 ,and if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive1 what thanks are to you8 ,for sinners also lend to sinners1 for to receive as much4 #f3ce4 ,but love ye your enemies3 do good1 and lend1 hoping for nothing thereby3 and your reward shall be great1 and you shall be the sons of the ,highest4 ,for he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil4 #f3cf4 ,be ye therefore merciful1 as your ,father also is merciful4 #f3cg4 ,judge not3 and you shall not be judged4 ,condemn not3 and you shall not be condemned4 ,forgive3 and you shall be forgiven4 #f3ch4 ,give3 and it shall be given to you3 good measure and pressed down and shaken together and running over shall they give into your bosom4 ,for with the same measure that you shall mete withal1 it shall be measured to you again4 #f3ci4 ,and he spoke also to them a similitude3 ,can the blind lead the blind8 ,do they not both fall into the ditch8 #f3dj4 ,the disciple is not above his master3 but every one shall be perfect1 if he be as his master4 #f3da4 ,and why seest thou the mote in thy brother's eye3 but the beam that is in thy own eye thou considerest not8 #f3db4 ,or how canst thou say to thy brother3 ,brother1 let me pull the mote out of thy eye1 when thou thyself seest not the beam in thy own eye8 ,hypocrite1 cast first the beam out of thy own eye3 and then shalt thou see clearly to take out the mote from thy brother's eye4 #f3dc4 ,for there is no good tree that bringeth forth evil fruit3 nor an evil tree that bringeth forth good fruit4 #f3dd4 ,for every tree is known by its fruit4 ,for men do not gather figs from thorns3 nor from a bramble bush do they gather the grape4 #f3de4 ,a good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good3 and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth that which is evil4 ,for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh4 #f3df4 ,and why call you me1 ,lord1 ,lord2 and do not the things which ,i say8 a rock4 ,and when a flood came1 the stream beat vehemently upon that house3 and it could not shake it3 for it was founded on a rock4 #f3di4 ,but he that heareth and doth not is like to a man building loveth our nation3 and he hath built us a synagogue4 #g3f4 ,and ,jesus went with them4 ,and when he was now not far from the house1 the centurion sent his friends to him1 saying3 ,lord1 trouble not thyself2 for ,i am not worthy that thou shouldst enter under my roof4 #g3g4 ,for which cause neither did ,i think myself worthy to come to thee3 but say the word1 and my servant shall be healed4 #g3h4 ,which ,jesus hearing1 marvelled3 and turning about to the multitude that followed him1 he said3 ,amen ,i say to you1 ,i have not found so great faith1 not even in ,israel4 #g3aj4 ,and they who were sent1 being returned to the house1 found the servant whole who had been sick4 #g3aa4 ,and it came to pass afterwards that he went into a city that is called ,naim3 and there went with him his disciples and a great multitude4 #g3ab4 ,and when he came nigh to the gate of the city1 behold a dead man was carried out1 the only son of his mother3 and she was a widow4 ,and a great multitude of the city was with her4 #g3ac4 ,whom when the ,lord had seen1 being moved with mercy towards her1 he said to her3 ,weep not4 #g3ad4 ,and he came near and touched the bier4 ,and they that carried it stood still4 ,and he said3 ,young man1 ,i say to thee1 arise4 #g3ae4 ,and he that was dead sat up and begun to speak4 ,and he gave him to his mother4 #g3af4 ,and there came a fear upon them all3 and they glorified ,god saying3 ,a great prophet is risen up among us3 and1 ,god hath visited his people4 #g3ag4 ,and this rumour of him went forth throughout all ,judea and throughout all the country round about4 #g3ah4 ,and ,john's disciples told him of all these things4 #g3ai4 ,and ,john called to him two of his disciples and sent them to ,jesus1 saying3 ,art thou he that art to come8 ,or look we for another8 #g3bj4 ,and when the men were come unto him1 they said3 ,john the ,baptist hath sent us to thee1 saying3 ,art thou he that art to come8 ,or look we for another8 #g3ba4 7,and in that same hour1 he cured many of their diseases and hurts and evil spirits3 and to many that were blind he gave sight47 #g3bb4 ,and answering1 he said to them3 ,go and relate to ,john what you have heard what went you out to see8 ,a man clothed in soft garments8 ,behold they that are in costly apparel and live delicately are in the houses of kings4 #g3bf4 ,but what went you out to see8 ,a prophet8 ,yea1 ,i say to you1 and more than a prophet4 #g3bg4 ,this is he of whom it is written3 ,behold ,i send my angel before thy face1 who shall prepare thy way before thee4 #g3bh4 ,for ,i say to you3 ,amongst those that are born of men1 there is not a greater prophet than ,john the ,baptist4 ,but he that is the lesser in the kingdom of ,god is greater than he4 #g3bi4 ,and all the people hearing1 and the publicans1 justified ,god1 being baptized with ,john's baptism4 ,justified ,god444 that is1 praised the justice of ,god1 feared and worshipped ,god1 as just and merciful4 #g3cj4 ,but the ,pharisees and the lawyers despised the counsel of ,god against themselves1 being not baptized by him4 #g3ca4 ,and the ,lord said3 ,whereunto then shall ,i liken the men of this generation8 ,and to anointed them with the ointment4 #g3ci4 ,and the ,pharisee1 who had invited him1 seeing it1 spoke within himself1 saying3 ,this man1 if he were if a prophet1 would know surely who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him1 that she is a sinner4 #g3dj4 ,and ,jesus answering1 said to him3 ,simon1 ,i have somewhat to say to thee4 ,but he said3 ,master1 say it4 #g3da4 ,a certain creditor had two debtors3 the one owed five hundred pence and the other fifty4 #g3db4 ,and whereas they had not wherewith to pay1 he forgave them both4 ,which therefore of the two loveth him most8 #g3dc4 ,simon answering1 said3 ,i suppose that he to whom he forgave most4 ,and he said to him3 ,thou hast judged rightly4 #g3dd4 ,and turning to the woman1 he said unto ,simon3 ,dost thou see this woman8 ,i entered into thy house3 thou gavest me no water for my feet4 ,but she with tears hath washed my feet2 and with her hairs hath wiped them4 #g3de4 ,thou gavest me no kiss4 ,but she1 since she cane in1 ,magdalen1 out of whom seven devils were gone forth1 #h3c4 ,and ,joanna the wife of ,chusa1 ,herod's steward1 and ,susanna and many others who ministered unto him of their substance4 #h3d4 ,and when a very great multitude was gathered together and hastened out of the cities1 unto him1 he spoke by a similitude4 #h3e4 ,the sower went out to sow his seed4 ,and as he sowed1 some fell by the way side4 ,and it was trodden down3 and the fowls of the air devoured it4 #h3f4 ,and other some fell upon a rock4 ,and as soon as it was sprung up1 it withered away1 because it had no moisture4 #h3g4 ,and other some fell among thorns4 ,and the thorns growing up with it1 choked it4 #h3h4 ,and other some fell upon good ground and1 being sprung up1 yielded fruit a hundredfold4 ,saying these things1 he cried out3 ,he that hath ears to hear1 let him hear4 #h3i4 ,and his disciples asked him what this parable might be4 #h3aj4 ,to whom he said3 ,to you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of ,god2 but to the rest in parables1 that seeing they may not see and hearing may not understand4 ,seeing they may not see444 ,see the annotation1 ,mark #d4 #ab4 #h3aa4 ,now the parable is this3 ,the seed is the word of ,god4 #h3ab4 ,and they by the way side are they that hear3 then the devil cometh and taketh the word out of their heart1 lest believing they should be saved4 #h3ac4 ,now they upon the rock are they who when they hear receive the word with joy3 and these have no roots3 for they believe for a while and in time of temptation they fall away4 #h3ad4 ,and that which fell among thorns are they who have heard and1 going their way1 are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life and yield no fruit4 #h3ae4 ,but that on the good ground are they who in a good and perfect heart1 hearing the word1 keep it and bring forth fruit in patience4 #h3af4 ,now no man lighting a candle covereth it with a vessel or putteth it under a bed3 but setteth it upon a candlestick1 that they who come in may see the light4 #h3ag4 ,for there is not any thing secret that shall not be made manifest1 nor hidden that shall not be known and come abroad4 #h3ah4 ,take heed therefore how you hear4 ,for whosoever hath1 to him shall be given3 and whosoever hath not1 that also which he thinketh he hath shall be taken away from him4 #h3ai4 ,and his mother and brethren came unto him3 and they could not come at him for the crowd4 #h3bj4 ,and it was told him3 ,thy mother and thy brethren stand without1 desiring to see thee4 #h3ba4 ,who answering1 said to them3 ,my mother and my brethren are they who hear the word of ,god and do it4 #h3bb4 ,and it came to pass on a certain day that he went into a little ship with his disciples4 ,and he said to them3 ,let us go over to the other side of the lake4 ,and they launched forth4 #h3bc4 ,and when they were sailing1 he slept4 ,and there came down a storm of wind upon the lake3 and they were filled and were in danger4 #h3bd4 ,and they came and awaked him1 saying3 ,master1 we perish4 ,but he arising1 rebuked the wind and the rage of the water4 ,and it ceased3 and there was a calm4 #h3be4 ,and he said to them3 ,where is your faith8 ,who being afraid1 wondered1 saying one to another3 ,who is this 7think you71 that he commandeth both the winds and the sea3 and they obey him8 #h3bf4 ,and they sailed to the country of the ,gerasens1 which is over against ,galilee4 #h3bg4 ,and when he was come forth to the land1 there met him a certain man who had a devil now a very long time4 ,and he wore no clothes3 neither did he abide in a house1 but in the sepulchres4 #h3bh4 ,and when he saw ,jesus1 he fell down before him4 ,and crying out with a loud voice1 he said3 ,what have ,i to do with thee1 ,jesus1 ,son of the most high ,god8 ,i beseech thee1 do not torment me4 #h3bi4 ,for he commanded the unclean spirit to go out of the man4 ,for many times it seized him3 and he was bound with chains and kept in fetters3 and breaking the bonds1 he was driven by the devil into the deserts4 #h3cj4 ,and ,jesus asked him1 saying3 ,what is thy name8 ,but he said3 ,legion4 ,because many devils were entered into him4 #h3ca4 ,and they besought him that he would not command them to go into the abyss4 #h3cb4 ,and there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain3 and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them4 ,and he suffered them4 #h3cc4 ,the devils therefore went out of the man and entered into the swine4 ,and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake and were stifled4 #h3cd4 ,which when they that fed them saw done1 they fled away and told it in the city and in the villages4 #h3ce4 ,and they went out to see what was done4 ,and they came to ,jesus and found the man out of whom the devils were departed1 sitting at his feet1 clothed and in his right mind4 ,and they were afraid4 #h3cf4 ,and they also that had seen told them how he had been healed from the legion4 #h3cg4 ,and all the multitude of the country of the ,gerasens besought him to depart from them3 for they were taken with great fear4 ,and he1 going up into the ship1 returned back again4 #h3ch4 ,now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him4 ,but ,jesus sent him away1 saying3 #h3ci4 ,return to thy house and tell how great things ,god hath done to thee4 ,and he went through the whole city1 publishing how great things ,jesus had done to him4 #h3dj4 ,and it came to pass that when ,jesus was returned1 the multitude received him3 for they were all waiting for him4 #h3da4 ,and behold there came a man whose name was ,jairus3 and he was a ruler of the synagogue4 ,and he fell down at the feet of ,jesus1 beseeching him that he would come into his house3 #h3db4 ,for he had an only daughter1 almost twelve years old1 and she was dying4 ,and it happened as he went that he was thronged by the multitudes4 #h3dc4 ,and there was a certain woman having an issue of blood twelve years1 who had bestowed all her substance on physicians and could not be healed by any4 #h3dd4 ,she came behind him and touched the hem of his garment3 and immediately the issue of her blood stopped4 #h3de4 ,and ,jesus said3 ,who is it that touched me8 ,and all denying1 ,peter and they that were with him said3 ,master1 the multitudes throng and press thee2 and dost thou say1 who touched me8 #h3df4 ,and ,jesus said3 ,somebody hath touched me2 for ,i know that virtue is gone out from me4 #h3dg4 ,and the woman seeing that she was not hid1 came trembling and fell down before his feet and declared before all the people for what cause she had touched him1 and how she was immediately healed4 #h3dh4 ,but he said to her3 ,daughter1 thy faith hath made thee whole4 ,go thy way in peace4 #h3di4 ,as he was yet speaking1 there cometh one to the ruler of the synagogue1 saying to him3 ,thy daughter is dead3 trouble him not4 #h3ej4 ,and ,jesus hearing this word1 answered the father of the maid3 ,fear not4 ,believe only3 and she shall be safe4 #h3ea4 ,and when he was come to the house1 he suffered not any man to go in with him1 but ,peter and ,james and ,john1 and the father and mother of the maiden4 #h3eb4 ,and all wept and mourned for her4 ,but he said3 ,weep not4 ,the maid is not dead1 but sleepeth4 #h3ec4 ,and they laughed him to scorn1 knowing that she was dead4 #h3ed4 ,but he taking her by the hand1 cried out1 saying3 ,maid1 arise4 #h3ee4 ,and her spirit returned3 and she arose immediately4 ,and he bid them give her to eat4 #h3ef4 ,and her parents were astonished1 whom he charged to apostles1 he gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases4 #i3b4 ,and he sent them to preach the kingdom of ,god and to heal the sick4 #i3c4 ,and he said to them3 ,take nothing for your journey1 neither staff1 nor scrip1 nor bread1 nor money2 neither have two coats4 #i3d4 ,and whatsoever house you shall enter into1 abide there and depart not from thence4 #i3e4 ,and whosoever will not receive you1 when ye go out of that city1 shake off even the dust of your feet1 for a testimony against them4 #i3f4 ,and going out1 they went about through the towns1 preaching the gospel and healing every where4 #i3g4 ,now ,herod1 the tetrarch1 heard of all things that were done by him4 ,and he was in a doubt1 because it was said #i3h4 ,by some that ,john was risen from the dead3 but by other some1 that ,elias had appeared3 and by others1 that one of the old prophets was risen again4 #i3i4 ,and ,herod said3 ,john ,i have beheaded4 ,but who is this of whom ,i hear such things8 ,and he sought to see him4 #i3aj4 ,and the apostles1 when they were returned1 told him all they had done4 ,and taking them1 he went aside into a desert place1 apart1 which belongeth to ,bethsaida4 #i3aa4 ,which when the people knew1 they followed him3 and he received them and spoke to them of the kingdom of ,god and healed them who had need of healing4 #i3ab4 ,now the day began to decline4 ,and the twelve came and said to him3 ,send away the multitude1 that1 going into the towns and villages round about1 they may lodge and get victuals2 for we are here in a desert place4 #i3ac4 ,but he said to them3 ,give you them to eat4 ,and they said3 ,we have no more than five loaves and two fishes2 unless perhaps1 we should go and buy food for all this multitude4 #i3ad4 ,now there were about five thousand men4 ,and he said to his disciples3 ,make them sit down by fifties in a company4 #i3ae4 ,and they did so and made them all sit down4 #i3af4 ,and taking the five loaves and the two fishes1 he looked up to heaven and blessed them3 and he broke and distributed to his disciples1 to set before the multitude4 #i3ag4 ,and they did all eat and were filled4 ,and there were taken up of fragments that remained to them1 twelve baskets4 #i3ah4 ,and it came to pass1 as he was alone praying1 his disciples also were with him3 and he asked them1 saying3 ,whom do the people say that ,i am8 #i3ai4 ,but they answered and said3 ,john the ,baptist2 but some say ,elias3 and others say that one of the former prophets is risen again4 #i3bj4 ,and he said to them3 ,but whom do you say that ,i am8 ,simon ,peter answering1 said3 ,the ,christ of ,god4 #i3ba4 ,but he strictly charging them1 commanded they should tell this to no man4 #i3bb4 ,saying3 ,the ,son of man must suffer many things and be rejected by the ancients and chief priests and scribes and be killed and the third day rise again4 #i3bc4 ,and he said to all3 ,if any man will come after me1 let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me4 #i3bd4 ,for whosoever will save his life shall lose it3 for he that shall lose his life for my sake shall save it4 #i3be4 ,for what is a man advantaged1 if he gain the whole world and lose himself and cast away himself8 #i3bf4 ,for he that shall be ashamed of me and of my words1 of him the ,son of man shall be ashamed1 when he shall come in his majesty and that of his ,father and of the holy angels4 #i3bg4 ,but ,i tell you of a truth3 ,there are some standing here that shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of ,god4 #i3bh4 ,and it came to pass1 about eight days after these words1 that he took ,peter and ,james and ,john and went up into a mountain to pray4 #i3bi4 ,and whilst he prayed1 the shape of his countenance was altered and his raiment became white and glittering4 #i3cj4 ,and behold two men were talking with him4 ,and they were ,moses and ,elias1 #i3ca4 ,appearing in majesty4 ,and they spoke of his decease that he should accomplish in ,jerusalem4 #i3cb4 ,but ,peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep4 ,and waking1 they saw his glory and the two men that stood with him4 #i3cc4 ,and it came to pass that1 as they were departing from him1 ,peter saith to ,jesus3 ,master1 it is good for us to be here3 and let us make three tabernacles1 one for thee1 and one for ,moses2 and one for ,elias3 not knowing what he said4 #i3cd4 ,and as he spoke these things1 there came a cloud and overshadowed them4 ,and they were afraid when they entered into the cloud4 #i3ce4 ,and a voice came out of the cloud2 saying3 ,this is my beloved son4 ,hear him4 #i3cf4 ,and whilst the voice was uttered ,jesus was found alone4 ,and they held their peace and told no man in those days any of these things which they had seen4 #i3cg4 ,and it came to pass the day following1 when they came down from the mountain1 there met him a great multitude4 #i3ch4 ,and behold a man among the crowd cried out1 saying3 ,master1 ,i beseech thee1 look upon my son1 because he is my only one4 #i3ci4 ,and lo1 a spirit seizeth him1 and he suddenly crieth out1 and he throweth him down and teareth him1 so that he foameth2 and bruising him1 he hardly departeth from him4 #i3dj4 ,and ,i desired thy disciples to cast him out3 and they could not4 #i3da4 ,and ,jesus1 answering1 said3 ,o faithless and perverse generation1 how long shall ,i be with you and suffer you8 ,bring hither thy son4 #i3db4 ,and as he was coming to him1 the devil threw him down and tore him4 #i3dc4 ,and ,jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and cured the boy and restored him to his father4 #i3dd4 ,and all were astonished at the mighty power of ,god4 ,but while all wondered at all the things he did1 he said to his disciples3 ,lay you up in your hearts these words1 for it shall come to pass that the ,son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men4 #i3de4 ,but they understood not this word3 and it was hid from them1 so that they perceived it not4 ,and they were afraid to ask him concerning this word4 #i3df4 ,and there entered a thought into them1 which of them should be greater4 #i3dg4 ,but ,jesus seeing the thoughts of their hearts1 took a child and set him by him1 #i3dh4 ,and said to them3 ,whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me2 and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me4 ,for he that is the lesser among you all1 he is the greater4 #i3di4 ,and ,john1 answering1 said3 ,master1 we saw a certain man casting out devils in thy name3 and we forbade him1 because he followeth not with us4 #i3ej4 ,and ,jesus said to him3 ,forbid him not3 for he that is not against you is for you4 #i3ea4 ,and it came to pass1 when the days of his assumption were accomplishing1 that he steadfastly set his face to go to ,jerusalem4 #i3eb4 ,and he sent messengers before his face3 and going1 they entered into a city of the ,samaritans1 to prepare for him4 #i3ec4 ,and they received him not1 because his face was of one going to ,jerusalem4 #i3ed4 ,and when his disciples1 ,james and ,john1 had seen this1 they said3 ,lord1 wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven and consume them8 #i3ee4 ,and turning1 he rebuked them1 saying3 you know not of what spirit you are4 #i3ef4 ,the ,son of man came not to destroy souls1 but to save4 ,and they went into another town4 #i3eg4 ,and it came to pass1 as they walked in the way1 that a certain man said to him3 ,i will follow thee whithersoever thou goest4 #i3eh4 ,jesus said to him3 ,the foxes have holes1 and the birds of the air nests3 but the ,son of man hath not where to lay his head4 #i3ei4 ,but he said to another3 ,follow me4 ,and he said3 ,lord1 suffer me first to go and to bury my father4 #i3fj4 ,and ,jesus said to him3 ,let the dead bury their dead3 but go thou and preach the kingdom of ,god4 #i3fa4 ,and another said3 ,i will follow thee1 ,lord2 but let me first take my leave of them that are at my house4 #i3fb4 ,jesus said to him3 ,no man putting his hand to the plough and looking back is fit for the kingdom of ,god4 ,luke ,chapter #aj ,christ sends forth and instructs his seventy-two disciples4 ,the good ,samaritan4 #aj3a4 ,and after these things1 the ,lord appointed also other seventy-two4 ,and he sent them two and two before his face into every city and place whither he himself was to come4 #aj3b4 ,and he said to them3 ,the harvest indeed is great1 but the labourers are few4 ,pray ye therefore the ,lord of the harvest that he send labourers into his harvest4 #aj3c4 ,go3 ,behold ,i send you as lambs among wolves4 #aj3d4 ,carry neither purse1 nor scrip1 nor shoes3 and salute no man by the way4 #aj3e4 ,into whatever house you enter1 first say3 ,peace be to this house4 #aj3f4 ,and if the son of peace be there1 your peace shall rest upon him3 but if not1 it shall return to you4 #aj3g4 ,and in the same house1 remain1 eating and drinking such things as they have3 for the labourer is worthy of his hire4 ,remove not from house to house4 #aj3h4 ,and into what city soever you enter1 and they receive you1 eat such things as are set before you4 #aj3i4 ,and heal the sick that are therein and say to them3 ,the kingdom of ,god is come nigh unto you4 #aj3aj4 ,but into whatsoever city you enter1 and they receive you not1 going forth into the streets thereof1 say3 #aj3aa4 ,even the very dust of your city that cleaveth to us1 we wipe off against you4 ,yet know this1 that the kingdom of ,god is at hand4 #aj3ab4 ,i say to you1 it shall be more tolerable at that day for ,sodom than for that city4 #aj3ac4 ,woe to thee1 ,corozain6 ,woe to thee1 ,bethsaida6 ,for if in ,tyre and ,sidon had been wrought the mighty works that have been wrought in you1 they would have done penance long ago1 sitting in sackcloth and ashes4 #aj3ad4 ,but it shall be more tolerable for ,tyre and ,sidon at the judgment than for you4 #aj3ae4 ,and thou1 ,capharnaum1 which art exalted unto heaven1 thou shalt be thrust down to hell4 #aj3af4 ,he that heareth you heareth me3 and he that despiseth you despiseth me3 and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me4 #aj3ag4 ,and the seventy-two returned with joy1 saying3 ,lord1 the devils also are subject to us in thy name4 #aj3ah4 ,and he said to them3 ,i saw ,satan like lightning falling from heaven4 #aj3ai4 ,behold1 ,i have given you power to tread upon serpents and scorpions and upon all the power of the enemy3 and nothing shall hurt you4 #aj3bj4 ,but yet rejoice not in this1 that spirits are subject unto you3 but rejoice in this1 that your names are written in heaven4 #aj3ba4 ,in that same hour1 he rejoiced in the ,holy ,ghost and said3 ,i confess to thee1 ,o ,father1 ,lord of heaven and earth1 because thou hast hidden these things from the wise and prudent and hast revealed them to little ones4 ,yea1 ,father1 for so it hath seemed good in thy sight4 ,he rejoiced in the ,holy ,ghost444 ,that is1 according to his humanity he rejoiced in the ,holy ,ghost1 and gave thanks to his eternal ,father4 #aj3bb4 ,all things are delivered to me by my ,father4 ,and no one knoweth who the ,son is1 but the ,father3 and who the ,father is1 but the ,son and to whom the ,son will reveal him4 #aj3bc4 ,and turning to his disciples1 he said3 ,blessed are the eyes that see the things which you see4 #aj3bd4 ,for ,i say to you that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things that you see and have not seen them2 and to hear the things that you hear and have not heard them4 #aj3be4 ,and behold a certain lawyer stood up1 tempting him and saying1 ,master1 what must ,i do to possess eternal life8 #aj3bf4 ,but he said to him3 ,what is written in the law8 ,how readest thou8 #aj3bg4 ,he answering1 said3 ,thou shalt love the ,lord thy ,god with thy whole heart and with thy whole soul and with all thy strength and with all thy mind3 and thy neighbour as thyself4 #aj3bh4 ,and he said to him3 ,thou hast answered right4 ,this do3 and thou shalt live4 #aj3bi4 ,but he willing to justify himself1 said to ,jesus3 ,and who is my neighbour8 #aj3cj4 ,and ,jesus answering1 said3 ,a certain man went down from ,jerusalem to ,jericho and fell among robbers1 who also stripped him and having wounded him went away1 leaving him half dead4 #aj3ca4 ,and it chanced1 that a certain priest went down the same way3 and seeing him1 passed by4 #aj3cb4 ,in like manner also a ,levite1 when he was near the place and saw him1 passed by4 #aj3cc4 ,but a certain ,samaritan1 being on his journey1 came near him3 and seeing him1 was moved with compassion3 #aj3cd4 ,and going up to him1 bound up his wounds1 pouring in oil and wine3 and setting him upon his own beast1 brought him to an inn and took care of him4 #aj3ce4 ,and the next day he took out two pence and gave to the host and said3 ,take care of him2 and whatsoever thou shalt spend over and above1 ,i1 at my return1 will repay thee4 #aj3cf4 ,which of these three1 in thy opinion1 was neighbour to him that fell among the robbers8 #aj3cg4 ,but he said3 ,he that shewed mercy to him4 ,and ,jesus said to him3 ,go1 and do thou in like manner4 #aj3ch4 ,now it came to pass1 as they went1 that he entered into a certain town3 and a certain woman named ,martha received him into her house4 #aj3ci4 ,and she had a sister called ,mary4 who1 sitting also at the ,lord's feet1 heard his word4 #aj3dj4 ,but ,martha was busy about much serving4 ,who stood and said3 ,lord1 hast thou no care that my sister hath left me alone to serve8 ,speak to her therefore1 that she help me4 #aj3da4 ,and the ,lord answering1 said to her3 ,martha1 ,martha1 thou art careful and art troubled about many things3 #aj3db4 ,but one thing is necessary4 ,mary hath chosen the best part1 which shall not be taken away from her4 ,luke ,chapter #aa ,christ teaches his disciples to pray4 ,he casts out a dumb devil1 confutes the ,pharisees1 and pronounces woes against them for their hypocrisy4 #aa3a4 ,and it came to pass that as he was in a certain place praying1 when he ceased1 one of his disciples said to him3 ,lord1 teach us to pray1 as ,john also taught his disciples4 #aa3b4 ,and he said to them3 ,when you pray1 say3 ,father1 hallowed be thy name4 ,thy kingdom come4 #aa3c4 ,give us this day our daily bread4 #aa3d4 ,and forgive us our sins1 for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us4 ,and lead us not into temptation4 #aa3e4 ,and he said to them3 ,which of you shall have a friend and shall go to him at midnight and shall say to him3 ,friend1 lend me three loaves1 #aa3f4 ,because a friend of mine is come off his journey to me and ,i have not what to set before him4 #aa3g4 ,and he from within should answer and say3 ,trouble me not2 the door is now shut1 and my children are with me in bed4 ,i cannot rise and give thee4 #aa3h4 ,yet if he shall continue knocking1 ,i say to you1 although he will not rise and give him because he is his friend2 yet1 because of his importunity1 he will rise and give him as many as he needeth4 #aa3i4 ,and ,i say to you3 ,ask1 and it shall be given you3 seek1 and you shall find3 knock1 and it shall be opened to you4 #aa3aj4 ,for every one that asketh receiveth3 and he that seeketh findeth3 and to him that knocketh it shall be opened3 #aa3aa4 ,and which of you1 if he ask his father bread1 will he give him a stone8 ,or a fish1 will he for a fish give him a serpent8 #aa3ab4 ,or if he shall ask an egg1 will he reach him a scorpion8 #aa3ac4 ,if you then1 being evil1 know how to give good gifts to your children1 how much more will your ,father from heaven give the good ,spirit to them that ask him8 #aa3ad4 ,and he was casting out a devil3 and the same was dumb4 ,and when he had cast out the devil1 the dumb spoke3 and the multitudes1 were in admiration at it4 #aa3ae4 ,but some of them said3 ,he casteth out devils by ,beelzebub1 the prince of devils4 #aa3af4 ,and others tempting1 asked of him a sign from heaven4 #aa3ag4 ,but he seeing their thoughts1 said to them3 ,every kingdom divided against itself shall be brought to desolation2 and house upon house shall fall4 #aa3ah4 ,and if ,satan also be divided against himself1 how shall his kingdom stand8 ,because you say that through ,beelzebub ,i cast out devils4 #aa3ai4 ,now if ,i cast out devils by ,beelzebub1 by whom do your children cast them out8 ,therefore1 they shall be your judges4 #aa3bj4 ,but if ,i by the finger of ,god cast out devils1 doubtless the kingdom of ,god is come upon you4 #aa3ba4 ,when a strong man armed keepeth his court1 those things are in peace which he possesseth4 #aa3bb4 ,but if a stronger than he come upon him and overcome him1 he will take away all his armour wherein he trusted and will distribute his spoils4 #aa3bc4 ,he that is not with me is against me2 and he that gathereth not with me scattereth4 #aa3bd4 ,when the unclean spirit is gone out of a man1 he walketh through places without water1 seeking rest3 and not finding1 he saith3 ,i will return into my house whence ,i came out4 #aa3be4 ,and when he is come1 he findeth it swept and garnished4 #aa3bf4 ,then he goeth and taketh with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself3 and entering in they dwell there4 ,and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first4 #aa3bg4 ,and it came to pass1 as he spoke these things1 a certain woman from the crowd1 lifting up her voice1 said to him3 ,blessed is the womb that bore thee and the paps that gave thee suck4 #aa3bh4 ,but he said3 ,yea rather1 blessed are they who hear the word of ,god and keep it4 #aa3bi4 ,and the multitudes running together1 he began to say3 ,this generation is a wicked generation4 ,it asketh a sign3 and a sign shall not be given it1 but the sign of ,jonas the prophet4 #aa3cj4 ,for as ,jonas was a sign to the ,ninivites2 so shall the ,son of man also be to this generation4 #aa3ca4 ,the queen of the south shall rise in the judgment with the men of this generation and shall condemn them3 because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of ,solomon4 ,and behold more than ,solomon here4 #aa3cb4 ,the men of ,ninive shall rise in the judgment with this generation and shall condemn it2 ,because they did penance at the preaching of ,jonas4 ,and behold more than ,jonas here4 #aa3cc4 ,no man lighteth a candle and putteth it in a hidden place1 nor under a bushel3 but upon a candlestick1 that they that come in may see the light4 #aa3cd4 ,the light of thy body is thy eye4 ,if thy eye be single1 thy whole body will be lightsome3 but if it be evil1 thy body also will be darksome4 #aa3ce4 ,take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness4 #aa3cf4 ,if then thy whole body be lightsome1 having no part of darkness3 the whole shall be lightsome and1 as a bright lamp1 shall enlighten thee4 #aa3cg4 ,and as he was speaking1 a certain ,pharisee prayed him that he would dine with him4 ,and he going in1 sat down to eat4 #aa3ch4 ,and the ,pharisee began to say1 thinking within himself1 why he was not washed before dinner4 #aa3ci4 ,and the ,lord said to him3 ,now you1 ,pharisees1 make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter3 but your inside is full of rapine and iniquity4 #aa3dj4 ,ye fools1 did not he that made that which is without make also that which is within8 #aa3da4 ,but yet that which remaineth1 give alms3 and behold1 all things are clean unto you4 #aa3db4 ,but woe to you1 ,pharisees1 because you tithe mint and rue and every herb and pass over judgment and the charity of ,god4 ,now these things you ought to have done1 and not to leave the other undone4 #aa3dc4 ,woe to you1 ,pharisees1 because you love the uppermost seats in the synagogues and salutations in the marketplace4 #aa3dd4 ,woe to you1 because you are as sepulchres that appear not3 and men that walk over are not aware4 #aa3de4 ,and one of the lawyers answering1 saith to him3 ,master1 in saying these things1 thou reproachest us also4 #aa3df4 ,but he said3 ,woe to you lawyers also1 because you load men with burdens which they cannot bear and you yourselves touch not the packs with one of your fingers4 ,woe to you lawyers444 ,he speaks of the doctors of the law of ,moses1 commonly called the scribes4 #aa3dg4 ,woe to you who build the monuments of the prophets3 and your fathers killed them4 ,woe to you who build1 etc444 ,not that the building of the monuments of the prophets was in itself blameworthy1 but only the intention of these unhappy men1 who made use of this outward shew of religion and piety1 as a means to carry on their wicked designs against the prince of prophets4 #aa3dh4 ,truly you bear witness that you consent to the doings of your fathers4 ,for they indeed killed them3 and you build their sepulchres4 #aa3di4 ,for this cause also the wisdom of ,god said3 ,i will send to them prophets and apostles3 and some of them they will kill and persecute4 #aa3ej4 ,that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation1 #aa3ea4 ,from the blood of ,abel unto the blood of ,zacharias1 who was slain between the altar and the temple4 ,yea ,i say to you3 ,it shall be required of this generation4 #aa3eb4 ,woe to you lawyers1 for you have taken away the key of knowledge4 ,you yourselves have not entered in3 and those that were entering in1 you have hindered4 #aa3ec4 ,and as he was saying these things to them1 the ,pharisees and the lawyers began violently to urge him and to oppress his mouth about many things1 #aa3ed4 ,lying in wait for him and seeking to catch something from his mouth1 that they might accuse him4 ,luke ,chapter #ab ,christ warns us against hypocrisy1 the fear of the world and covetousness4 ,he admonishes all to watch4 #ab3a4 ,and when great multitudes stood about him1 so that they trod one upon another1 he began to say to his disciples3 ,beware ye of the leaven of the ,pharisees1 which is hypocrisy4 #ab3b4 ,for there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed3 nor hidden that shall not be known4 #ab3c4 ,for whatsoever things you have spoken in darkness shall be published in the light3 and that which you have spoken in the ear in the chambers shall be preached on the housetops4 #ab3d4 ,and ,i say to you1 my friends3 ,be not afraid of them who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do4 #ab3e4 ,but ,i will shew you whom you shall fear3 ,fear ye him who1 after he hath killed1 hath power to cast into hell4 ,yea1 ,i say to you3 ,fear him4 #ab3f4 ,are not five sparrows sold for two farthings1 and not one of them is forgotten before ,god8 #ab3g4 ,yea1 the very hairs of your head are all numbered4 ,fear not therefore3 you are of more value than many sparrows4 #ab3h4 ,and ,i say to you3 ,whosoever shall confess me before men1 him shall the ,son of man also confess before the angels of ,god4 #ab3i4 ,but he that shall deny me before men shall be denied before the angels of ,god4 #ab3aj4 ,and whosoever speaketh a word against the ,son of man1 it shall be forgiven him3 but to him that shall blaspheme against the ,holy ,ghost1 it shall not be forgiven4 #ab3aa4 ,and when they shall bring you into the synagogues and to magistrates and powers1 be not solicitous how or what you shall answer1 or what you shall say4 #ab3ab4 ,for the ,holy ,ghost shall teach you in the same hour what you must say4 #ab3ac4 ,and one of the multitude said to him3 ,master1 speak to my brother that he divide the inheritance with me4 #ab3ad4 ,but he said to him3 ,man1 who hath appointed me judge or divider over you8 #ab3ae4 ,and he said to them3 ,take heed and beware of all covetousness3 for a man's life doth not consist in the abundance of things which he possesseth4 #ab3af4 ,and he spoke a similitude to them1 saying3 ,the land of a certain rich man brought forth plenty of fruits4 #ab3ag4 ,and he thought within himself1 saying3 ,what shall ,i do1 because ,i have no room where to bestow my fruits8 #ab3ah4 ,and he said3 ,this will ,i do3 ,i will pull down my barns and will build greater3 and into them will ,i gather all things that are grown to me and my goods4 #ab3ai4 ,and ,i will say to my soul3 ,soul1 thou hast much goods laid up for many years4 ,take thy rest3 eat1 drink1 make good cheer4 #ab3bj4 ,but ,god said to him3 ,thou fool1 this night do they require thy soul of thee4 ,and whose shall those things be which thou hast provided8 #ab3ba4 ,so is he that layeth up treasure for himself and is not rich towards ,god4 #ab3bb4 ,and he said to his disciples3 ,therefore ,i say to you3 ,be not solicitous for your life1 what you shall eat1 nor for your body1 what you shall put on4 #ab3bc4 ,the life is more than the meat3 and the body is more than the raiment4 #ab3bd4 ,consider the ravens1 for they sow not1 neither do they reap1 neither have they storehouse nor barn1 and ,god feedeth them4 ,how much are you more valuable than they8 #ab3be4 ,and which of you by taking thought can add to his stature one cubit8 #ab3bf4 ,if then ye be not able to do so much as the least thing1 why are you solicitous for the rest8 #ab3bg4 ,consider the lilies1 how they grow3 they labour not1 neither do they spin4 ,but ,i say to you1 not even ,solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these4 #ab3bh4 ,now1 if ,god clothe in this manner the grass that is to-day in the field and to-morrow is cast into the oven3 how much more you1 ,o ye of little faith8 #ab3bi4 ,and seek not what you shall eat or what you shall drink3 and be not lifted up on high4 #ab3cj4 ,for all these things do the nations of the world seek4 ,but your ,father knoweth that you have need of these things4 #ab3ca4 ,but seek ye first the kingdom of ,god and his justice3 and all these things shall be added unto you4 #ab3cb4 ,fear not1 little flock1 for it hath pleased your ,father to give you a kingdom4 #ab3cc4 ,sell what you possess and give alms4 ,make to yourselves bags which grow not old1 a treasure in heaven which faileth not3 where no thief approacheth1 nor moth corrupteth4 #ab3cd4 ,for where your treasure is1 there will your heart be also4 #ab3ce4 ,let your loins be girt and lamps burning in your hands4 #ab3cf4 ,and you yourselves like to men who wait for their lord1 when he shall return from the wedding2 that when he cometh and knocketh1 they may open to him immediately4 #ab3cg4 ,blessed are those servants whom the ,lord1 when he cometh1 shall find watching4 ,amen ,i say to you that he will gird himself and make them sit down to meat and passing will minister unto them4 #ab3ch4 ,and if he shall come in the second watch or come in the third watch and find them so1 blessed are those servants4 #ab3ci4 ,but this know ye1 that if the householder did know at what hour the thief would come1 he would surely watch and would not suffer his house to be broken open4 #ab3dj4 ,be you then also ready3 for at what hour you think not the ,son of man will come4 #ab3da4 ,and ,peter said to him3 ,lord1 dost thou speak this parable to us1 or likewise to all8 #ab3db4 ,and the ,lord said3 ,who thinkest thou is the faithful and wise steward1 whom his lord setteth over his family1 to give them their measure of wheat in due season8 #ab3dc4 ,blessed is that servant whom1 when his lord shall come1 he shall find so doing4 #ab3dd4 ,verily ,i say to you1 he will set him over all that he possesseth4 #ab3de4 ,but if that servant shall say in his heart3 ,my ,lord is long a coming2 and shall begin to strike the men-servants and maid-servants1 and to eat and to drink and be drunk3 #ab3df4 ,the lord of that servant will come in the day that he hopeth not1 and at the hour that he knoweth not3 and shall separate him and shall appoint him his portion with unbelievers4 #ab3dg4 ,and that servant1 who knew the will of his lord and prepared not himself and did not according to his will1 shall be beaten with many stripes4 #ab3dh4 ,but he that knew not and did things worthy of stripes shall be beaten with few stripes4 ,and unto whomsoever much is given1 of him much shall be required3 and to whom they have committed much1 of him they will demand the more4 #ab3di4 ,i am come to cast fire on the earth4 ,and what will ,i1 but that it be kindled8 #ab3ej4 ,and ,i have a baptism wherewith ,i am to be baptized4 ,and how am ,i straitened until it be accomplished8 #ab3ea4 ,think ye1 that ,i am come to give peace on earth8 ,i tell you1 no2 but separation4 #ab3eb4 ,for there shall be from henceforth five in one house divided3 three against two1 and two against three4 #ab3ec4 ,the father shall be divided against the son and the son against his father3 the mother against the daughter and the daughter against her mother3 the mother-in-law against the daughter-in-law and the daughter- in-law law against her mother-in-law4 #ab3ed4 ,and he said also to the multitudes3 ,when you see a cloud rising from the west1 presently you say3 ,a shower is coming4 ,and so it happeneth4 #ab3ee4 ,and when ye see the south wind blow1 you say3 ,there will heat4 ,and it cometh to pass4 #ab3ef4 ,you hypocrites1 you know how to discern the face of the heaven and of the earth3 but how is it that you do not discern this time8 #ab3eg4 ,and why1 even of yourselves1 do you not judge that which is just8 #ab3eh4 ,and when thou goest with thy adversary to the prince1 whilst thou art in the way1 endeavour to be delivered from him3 lest perhaps he draw thee to be judge1 and the judge deliver thee to the exacter1 and the exacter cast thee into prison4 #ab3ei4 ,i say to thee1 thou shalt not go out thence until thou pay the very last them3 think you that they also were debtors above all the men that dwelt in ,jerusalem8 #ac3e4 ,no1 ,i say to you3 but except you do penance1 you shall all likewise perish4 #ac3f4 ,he spoke also this parable3 ,a certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard3 and he came seeking fruit on it and found none4 #ac3g4 ,and he said to the dresser of the vineyard3 ,behold1 for these three years ,i come seeking fruit on this fig tree and ,i find none4 ,cut it down therefore4 ,why cumbereth it the ground8 #ac3h4 ,but he answering1 said to him3 ,lord1 let it alone this year also1 until ,i dig about it and dung it4 #ac3i4 ,and if happily it bear fruit3 but if not1 then after that thou shalt cut it down4 #ac3aj4 ,and he was teaching in their synagogue on their sabbath4 #ac3aa4 ,and behold there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years4 ,and she was bowed together3 neither could she look upwards at all4 #ac3ab4 ,whom when ,jesus saw1 he called her unto him and said to her3 ,woman1 thou art delivered from thy infirmity4 #ac3ac4 ,and he laid his hands upon her3 and immediately she was made straight and glorified ,god4 #ac3ad4 ,and the ruler of the synagogue being angry that ,jesus had healed on the sabbath answering1 said to the multitude3 ,six days there are wherein you ought to work4 ,in them therefore come and be healed3 and not on the sabbath day4 #ac3ae4 ,and the ,lord answering him1 said3 ,ye hypocrites1 doth not every one of you1 on the sabbath day1 loose his ox or his ass from the manger and lead them to water8 #ac3af4 ,and ought not this daughter of ,abraham1 whom ,satan hath bound1 lo1 these eighteen years1 be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day8 #ac3ag4 ,and when he said these things1 all his adversaries were ashamed3 and all the people rejoiced for all the things that were gloriously done by him4 #ac3ah4 ,he said therefore3 ,to what is the kingdom of ,god like1 and whereunto shall ,i resemble it8 #ac3ai4 ,it is like to a grain of mustard seed1 which a man took and cast into his garden3 and it grew and became a great tree1 and the birds of the air lodged in the branches thereof4 #ac3bj4 ,and again he said3 ,whereunto shall ,i esteem the kingdom of ,god to be like8 #ac3ba4 ,it is like to leaven1 which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal1 till the whole was leavened4 #ac3bb4 ,and he went through the cities and towns teaching and making his journey to ,jerusalem4 #ac3bc4 ,and a certain man said to him3 ,lord1 are they few that are saved8 ,but he said to them3 #ac3bd4 ,strive to enter by the narrow gate3 for many1 ,i say to you1 shall seek to enter and shall not be able4 ,shall seek1 etc444 ,shall desire to be saved2 but for want of taking sufficient pains1 and being thoroughly in earnest1 shall not shall say to you3 ,i know you not1 whence you are4 #ac3bf4 ,then you shall begin to say3 ,we have eaten and drunk in thy presence3 and thou hast taught in our streets4 #ac3bg4 ,and he shall say to you3 ,i know you not1 whence you are4 ,depart from me1 all ye workers of iniquity4 #ac3bh4 ,there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth2 when you shall see ,abraham and ,isaac and ,jacob and all the prophets1 in the kingdom of ,god3 and you yourselves thrust out4 #ac3bi4 ,and there shall come from the east and the west and the north and the south3 and shall sit down in the kingdom of ,god4 #ac3cj4 ,and behold1 they are last that shall be first3 and they are first that shall be last4 #ac3ca4 ,the same day1 there came some of the ,pharisees1 saying to him3 ,depart1 and get thee hence1 for watched him4 #ad3b4 ,and behold1 there was a certain man before him that had the dropsy4 #ad3c4 ,and ,jesus answering1 spoke to the lawyers and ,pharisees1 saying3 ,is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day8 #ad3d4 ,but they held their peace4 ,but he taking him1 healed him and sent him away4 #ad3e4 ,and answering them1 he said3 ,which of you shall have an ass or an ox fall into a pit and will not immediately draw him out1 on the sabbath day8 #ad3f4 ,and they could not answer him to these things4 #ad3g4 ,and he spoke a parable also to them that were invited1 marking how they chose the first seats at the table1 saying to them3 #ad3h4 ,when thou art invited to a wedding1 sit not down in the first place1 lest perhaps one more honourable than thou be invited by him3 #ad3i4 ,and he that invited thee and him1 come and say to thee3 ,give this man place4 ,and then thou begin with shame to take the lowest place4 #ad3aj4 ,but when thou art invited1 go1 sit down in the lowest place2 that when he who invited thee cometh1 he may say to thee3 ,friend1 go up higher4 ,then shalt thou have glory before them that sit at table with thee4 #ad3aa4 ,because every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled3 and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted4 #ad3ab4 ,and he said to him also that had invited him3 ,when thou makest a dinner or a supper1 call not thy friends nor thy brethren nor thy kinsmen nor thy neighbours who are rich2 lest perhaps they also invite thee again1 and a recompense be made to thee4 #ad3ac4 ,but when thou makest a feast1 call the poor1 the maimed1 the lame and the blind4 #ad3ad4 ,and thou shalt be blessed1 because they have not wherewith to make thee recompense3 for recompense shall be made thee at the resurrection of the just4 #ad3ae4 ,when one of them that sat at table with him had heard these things1 he said to him3 ,blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of ,god4 #ad3af4 ,but he said to him3 ,a certain man made a great supper and invited many4 #ad3ag4 ,and he sent his servant at the hour of supper to say to them that were invited1 that they should come3 for now all things are ready4 #ad3ah4 ,and they began all at once to make excuse4 ,the first said to him3 ,i have bought a farm and ,i must needs go out and see it4 ,i pray thee1 hold me excused4 #ad3ai4 ,and another said3 ,i have bought five yoke of oxen and ,i go to try them4 ,i pray thee1 hold me excused4 #ad3bj4 ,and another said3 ,i have married a wife2 and therefore ,i cannot come4 #ad3ba4 ,and the servant returning1 told these things to his lord4 ,then the master of the house1 being angry1 said to his servant3 ,go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city2 and bring in hither the poor and the feeble and the blind and the lame4 #ad3bb4 ,and the servant said3 ,lord1 it is done as thou hast commanded2 and yet there is room4 #ad3bc4 ,and the ,lord said to the servant3 ,go out into the highways and hedges1 and compel them to come in1 that my house may be filled4 #ad3bd4 ,but ,i say unto you that none of those men that were invited shall taste of my supper4 #ad3be4 ,and there went great multitudes with him4 ,and turning1 he said to them3 #ad3bf4 ,if any man come to me1 and hate not his father and mother and wife and children and brethren and sisters1 yea and his own life also1 he cannot be my disciple4 ,hate not1 etc444 ,the law of ,christ does not allow us to hate even our enemies1 much less our parents3 but the meaning of the text is1 that we must be in that disposition of soul1 as to be willing to renounce1 and part with every thing1 how near or dear soever it may be to us1 that would keep us from following ,christ4 #ad3bg4 ,and whosoever doth not carry his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple4 #ad3bh4 ,for which of you1 having a mind to build a tower1 doth not first sit down and reckon the charges that are necessary1 whether he have wherewithal to finish it3 #ad3bi4 ,lest1 after he hath laid the foundation and is not not first sit down and think whether he be able1 with ten thousand1 to meet him that1 with twenty thousand1 cometh against him8 #ad3cb4 ,or else1 while the other is yet afar off1 sending an embassy1 he desireth conditions of peace4 #ad3cc4 ,so likewise every one of you that doth not renounce all that he possesseth cannot be my disciple4 #ad3cd4 ,salt is good4 ,but if the salt shall lose its ninety-nine in the desert and go after that which was lost1 until he find it8 #ae3e4 ,and when he hath found it1 lay it upon his shoulders1 rejoicing8 #ae3f4 ,and coming home1 call together his friends and neighbours1 saying to them3 ,rejoice with me1 because ,i have found my sheep that was lost8 #ae3g4 ,i say to you that even so there shall be joy in heaven upon one sinner that doth penance1 more than upon ninety-nine just who need not penance4 #ae3h4 ,or what woman having ten groats1 if she lose one groat1 doth not light a candle and sweep the house and seek diligently until she find it8 #ae3i4 ,and when she hath found it1 call together her friends and neighbours1 saying3 ,rejoice with me1 because ,i have found the groat which ,i had lost4 #ae3aj4 ,so ,i say to you1 there shall be joy before the angels of ,god upon one sinner doing penance4 ,before the angels444 ,by this it is plain that the spirits in heaven have a concern for us below1 and a joy at our repentance and consequently a knowledge of it4 #ae3aa4 ,and he said3 ,a certain man had two sons4 #ae3ab4 ,and the younger of them said to his father3 ,father1 give me the portion of substance that falleth to me4 ,and he divided unto them his substance4 #ae3ac4 ,and not many days after1 the younger son1 gathering all together1 went abroad into a far country3 and there wasted his substance1 living riotously4 #ae3ad4 ,and after he had spent all1 there came a mighty famine in that country3 and he began to be in want4 #ae3ae4 ,and he went and cleaved to one of the citizens of that country4 ,and he sent him into his farm to feed swine4 #ae3af4 ,and he would fain have filled his belly with the husks the swine did eat3 and no man gave unto him4 #ae3ag4 ,and returning to himself1 he said3 ,how many hired servants in my father's house abound with bread1 and ,i here perish with hunger6 #ae3ah4 ,i will arise and will go to my father and say to him3 ,father1 ,i have sinned against heaven and before thee4 #ae3ai4 ,i am not worthy to be called thy son3 make me as one of thy hired servants4 #ae3bj4 ,and rising up1 he came to his father4 ,and when he was yet a great way off1 his father saw him and was moved with compassion and running to him fell upon his neck and kissed him4 #ae3ba4 ,and the son said to him3 ,father3 ,i have sinned against heaven and before thee ,i am not now worthy to be called thy son4 #ae3bb4 ,and the father said to his servants3 ,bring forth quickly the first robe and put it on him3 and put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet4 #ae3bc4 ,and bring hither the fatted calf1 and kill it3 and let us eat and make merry3 #ae3bd4 ,because this my son was dead and is come to life again1 was lost and is found4 ,and they began to be merry4 #ae3be4 ,now his elder son was in the field and when he came and drew nigh to the house1 he heard music and dancing4 #ae3bf4 ,and he called one of the servants1 and asked what these things meant4 #ae3bg4 ,and he said to him3 ,thy brother is come and thy father hath killed the fatted calf1 because he hath received him safe4 #ae3bh4 ,and he was angry and would not go in4 ,his father therefore coming out began to entreat him4 #ae3bi4 ,and he answering1 said to his father3 ,behold1 for so many years do ,i serve thee and ,i have never transgressed thy commandment3 and yet thou hast never given me a kid to make merry with my friends4 #ae3cj4 ,but as soon as this thy son is come1 who hath devoured his substance with harlots1 thou hast killed for him the fatted calf4 #ae3ca4 ,but he said to him3 ,son1 thou art always with had wasted his goods4 #af3b4 ,and he called him and said to him3 ,how is it that ,i hear this of thee8 ,give an account of thy stewardship3 for now thou canst be steward no longer4 #af3c4 ,and the steward said within himself3 ,what shall ,i do1 because my lord taketh away from me the stewardship8 ,to dig ,i am not able2 to beg ,i am ashamed4 #af3d4 ,i know what ,i will do1 that when ,i shall be removed from the stewardship1 they may receive me into their houses4 #af3e4 ,therefore1 calling together every one of his lord's debtors1 he said to the first3 ,how much dost thou owe my lord8 #af3f4 ,but he said3 ,an hundred barrels of oil4 ,and he said to him3 ,take thy bill and sit down quickly and write fifty4 #af3g4 ,then he said to another3 ,and how much dost thou owe8 ,who said3 ,an hundred quarters of wheat4 ,he said to him3 ,take thy bill and write eighty4 #af3h4 ,and the lord commended the unjust steward1 forasmuch as he had done wisely3 for the children of this world are wiser in their generation than the children of light4 #af3i4 ,and ,i say to you3 ,make unto you friends of the mammon of iniquity3 that when you shall fail1 they may receive you into everlasting dwellings4 ,mammon of iniquity444 ,mammon signifies riches4 ,they are here called the mammon of iniquity1 because oftentimes ill gotten1 ill bestowed1 or an occasion of evil2 and at the best are but worldly1 and false2 and not the true riches of a ,christian4 ,they may receive444 ,by this we see1 that the poor servants of ,god1 whom we have relieved by our alms1 may hereafter1 by their intercession1 bring our souls to heaven4 #af3aj4 ,he that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in that which is greater3 and he that is unjust in that which is little is unjust also in that which is greater4 #af3aa4 ,if then you have not been faithful in the unjust mammon1 who will trust you with that which is the true8 #af3ab4 ,and if you have not been faithful in that which is another's1 who will give you that which is your own8 #af3ac4 ,no servant can serve two masters3 for either he will hate the one and love the other3 or he will hold to the one and despise the other4 ,you cannot serve ,god and mammon4 #af3ad4 ,now the ,pharisees1 who were covetous1 heard all these things3 and they derided him4 #af3ae4 ,and he said to them3 you are they who justify yourselves before men1 but ,god knoweth your hearts4 ,for that which is high to men is an abomination before ,god4 #af3af4 ,the law and the prophets were until ,john4 ,from that time the kingdom of ,god is preached3 and every one useth violence towards it4 #af3ag4 ,and it is easier for heaven and earth to pass than one tittle of the law to fall4 #af3ah4 ,every one that putteth away his wife and marrieth another committeth adultery3 and he that marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery4 #af3ai4 ,there was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and feasted sumptuously every day4 him3 moreover the dogs came and licked his sores4 #af3bb4 ,and it came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into ,abraham's bosom4 ,and the rich man also died3 and he was buried in hell4 ,abraham's bosom444 ,the place of rest1 where the souls of the saints resided1 till ,christ had opened heaven by his death4 #af3bc4 ,and lifting up his eyes when he was in torments1 he saw ,abraham afar off and ,lazarus in his bosom3 #af3bd4 ,and he cried and said3 ,father ,abraham1 have mercy on me and send ,lazarus1 that he may dip the tip of his finger in water to cool my tongue3 for ,i am tormented in this flame4 #af3be4 ,and ,abraham said to him3 ,son1 remember that thou didst receive good things in thy lifetime1 and likewise ,lazarus evil things3 but now he is comforted and thou art tormented4 #af3bf4 ,and besides all this1 between us and you1 there is fixed a great chaos3 so that they who would pass from hence to you cannot1 nor from thence come hither4 #af3bg4 ,and he said3 ,then1 father1 ,i beseech thee that thou wouldst send him to my father's house1 for ,i have five brethren1 #af3bh4 ,that he may testify unto them1 lest they also come into this place of torments4 #af3bi4 ,and ,abraham said to him3 ,they have ,moses and the prophets4 ,let them hear them4 #af3cj4 ,but he said3 ,no1 father ,abraham3 but if one went to them from the dead1 they will do efficacy of faith4 ,the ten lepers4 ,the manner of the coming of ,christ4 #ag3a4 ,and he said to his disciples3 ,it is impossible that scandals should not come4 ,but woe to him through whom they come6 #ag3b4 ,it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck and he cast into the sea1 than that he should scandalize one of these little ones4 #ag3c4 ,take heed to yourselves4 ,if thy brother sin against thee1 reprove him3 and if he do penance1 forgive him4 #ag3d4 ,and if he sin against thee seven times in a day1 and seven times in a day be converted unto thee1 saying3 ,i repent3 forgive him4 #ag3e4 ,and the apostles said to the ,lord3 ,increase our faith4 #ag3f4 ,and the ,lord said3 ,if you had faith like to a grain of mustard seed1 you might say to this mulberry tree3 ,be thou rooted up and be thou transplanted into the sea4 ,and it would obey you4 #ag3g4 ,but which of you1 having a servant ploughing or feeding cattle1 will say to him1 when he is come from the field3 ,immediately go4 ,sit down to meat4 #ag3h4 ,and will not rather say to him3 ,make ready my supper and gird thyself and serve me1 whilst ,i eat and drink2 and afterwards thou shalt eat and drink8 #ag3i4 ,doth he thank that servant for doing the things which he commanded him8 #ag3aj4 ,i think not4 ,so you also1 when you shall have done all these things that are commanded you1 say3 ,we are unprofitable servants2 we have done that which we ought to do4 ,unprofitable servants444 ,because our service is of no profit to our master2 and he justly claims it as our bounden duty4 ,but though we are unprofitable to him1 our serving him is not unprofitable to us2 for he is pleased to give by his grace a value to our good works1 which1 in consequence of his promise1 entitles them to an eternal reward4 #ag3aa4 ,and it came to pass1 as he was going to ,jerusalem1 he passed through the midst of ,samaria and ,galilee4 #ag3ab4 ,and as he entered into a certain town1 there met him ten men that were lepers1 who stood afar off4 #ag3ac4 ,and lifted up their voice1 saying3 ,jesus1 ,master1 have mercy on us4 #ag3ad4 ,whom when he saw1 he said3 ,go1 shew yourselves to the priests4 ,and it came to pass1 as they went1 they were made clean4 #ag3ae4 ,and one of them1 when he saw that he was made clean1 went back1 with a loud voice glorifying ,god4 #ag3af4 ,and he fell on his face before his feet1 giving thanks4 ,and this was a ,samaritan4 #ag3ag4 ,and ,jesus answering1 said3 ,were not ten made clean8 ,and where are the nine8 #ag3ah4 ,there is no one found to return and give glory to ,god1 but this stranger4 #ag3ai4 ,and he said to him3 ,arise1 go thy way2 for thy faith hath made thee whole4 #ag3bj4 ,and being asked by the ,pharisees when the kingdom of ,god should come1 he answering them and said3 ,the kingdom of ,god cometh not with observation4 #ag3ba4 ,neither shall they say3 ,behold here1 or behold there4 ,for lo1 the kingdom of ,god is within you4 #ag3bb4 ,and he said to his disciples3 ,the days will come when you shall desire to see one day of the ,son of man4 ,and you shall not see it4 #ag3bc4 ,and they will say to you3 ,see here1 and see there4 ,go ye not after1 nor follow them4 #ag3bd4 ,for as the lightning that lighteneth from under heaven shineth unto the parts that are under heaven1 so shall the ,son of man be in his day4 #ag3be4 ,but first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation4 #ag3bf4 ,and as it came to pass in the days of ,noe1 so shall it be also in the days of the ,son of man4 #ag3bg4 ,they did eat and drink1 they married wives and were given in marriage1 until the day that ,noe entered into the ark and the flood came and destroyed them all4 #ag3bh4 ,likewise as it came to pass in the days of ,lot4 ,they did eat and drink1 they bought and sold1 they planted and built4 #ag3bi4 ,and in the day that ,lot went out of ,sodom1 it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all4 #ag3cj4 ,even thus shall it be in the day when the ,son of man shall be revealed4 #ag3ca4 ,in that hour1 he that shall be on the housetop1 and his goods in the house1 let him not go down to take them away3 and he that shall be in the field1 in like manner1 let him not return back4 #ag3cb4 ,remember ,lot's wife4 #ag3cc4 ,whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it3 and whosoever shall lose it shall preserve it4 #ag3cd4 ,i say to you3 ,in that night there shall be two men in one bed4 ,the one shall be taken and the other shall be left4 #ag3ce4 ,two women shall be grinding together4 ,the one shall be taken and the other shall be left4 ,two men shall be in the field4 ,the one shall be taken and the other shall be left4 #ag3cf4 ,they answering1 say to him3 ,where1 ,lord8 #ag3cg4 ,who said to them3 restored to sight4 #ah3a4 ,and he spoke also a parable to them1 that we ought always to pray and not to faint1 #ah3b4 ,saying3 ,there was a judge in a certain city1 who feared not ,god nor regarded man4 #ah3c4 ,and there was a certain widow in that city2 and she came to him1 saying3 ,avenge me of my adversary4 ,avenge444 ,that is1 do me justice4 ,it is a ,hebraism4 #ah3d4 ,and he would not for a long time4 ,but afterwards he said within himself3 ,although ,i fear not ,god nor regard man1 #ah3e4 ,yet because this widow is troublesome to me1 ,i will avenge her1 lest continually coming she weary me4 #ah3f4 ,and the ,lord said3 ,hear what the unjust judge saith4 #ah3g4 ,and will not ,god revenge his elect who cry to him day and night8 ,and will he have patience in their regard8 #ah3h4 ,i say to you that he will quickly revenge them4 ,but yet the ,son of man1 when he cometh1 shall he find1 think you1 faith on earth8 #ah3i4 ,and to some who trusted in themselves as just and despised others1 he spoke also this parable3 #ah3aj4 ,two men went up into the temple to pray3 the one a ,pharisee and the other a publican4 #ah3aa4 ,the ,pharisee standing1 prayed thus with himself3 ,o ,god1 ,i give thee thanks that ,i am not as the rest of men1 extortioners1 unjust1 adulterers1 as also is this publican4 #ah3ab4 ,i fast twice in a week3 ,i give tithes of all that ,i possess4 #ah3ac4 ,and the publican1 standing afar off1 would not so much as lift up his eyes towards heaven2 but struck his breast1 saying3 ,o ,god1 be merciful to me a sinner4 #ah3ad4 ,i say to you1 this man went down into his house justified rather than the other3 because every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled3 and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted4 #ah3ae4 ,and they brought unto him also infants1 that he might touch them4 ,which when the disciples saw1 they rebuked them4 #ah3af4 ,but ,jesus1 calling them together1 said3 ,suffer children to come to me and forbid them not3 for of such is the kingdom of ,god4 #ah3ag4 ,amen1 ,i say to you3 ,whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of ,god as a child shall not enter into it4 #ah3ah4 ,and a certain ruler asked him1 saying3 ,good master1 what shall ,i do to possess everlasting life8 #ah3ai4 ,and ,jesus said to him3 ,why dost thou call me good8 ,none is good but ,god alone4 #ah3bj4 ,thou knowest the commandments3 ,thou shalt not kill4 ,thou shalt not commit adultery3 ,thou shalt not steal3 ,thou shalt not bear false witness3 ,honour thy father and mother4 #ah3ba4 ,who said3 ,all these things have ,i kept from my youth4 #ah3bb4 ,which when ,jesus had heard1 he said to him3 ,yet one thing is wanting to thee4 ,sell all whatever thou hast and give to the poor3 and thou shalt have treasure in heaven4 ,and come1 follow me4 #ah3bc4 ,he having heard these things1 became sorrowful3 for he was very rich4 #ah3bd4 ,and ,jesus seeing him become sorrowful1 said3 ,how hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of ,god3 #ah3be4 ,for it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of ,god4 #ah3bf4 ,and they that heard it said3 ,who then can be saved8 #ah3bg4 ,he said to them3 ,the things that are impossible with men are possible with ,god4 #ah3bh4 ,then ,peter said3 ,behold1 we have left all things and have followed thee4 #ah3bi4 ,who said to them3 ,amen1 ,i say to you1 there is no man that hath left home or parents or brethren or wife or children1 for the kingdom of ,god's sake1 #ah3cj4 ,who shall not receive much more in this present time1 and in the world to come life everlasting4 #ah3ca4 ,then ,jesus took unto him the twelve and said to them3 ,behold1 we go up to ,jerusalem2 and all things shall be accomplished which were written by the prophets concerning the ,son of man4 #ah3cb4 ,for he shall be delivered to the ,gentiles and shall be mocked and scourged and spit upon4 #ah3cc4 ,and after they have scourged him1 they will put him to death4 ,and the third day he shall rise again4 #ah3cd4 ,and they understood none of these things1 and this word was hid from them3 and they understood not the things that were said4 #ah3ce4 ,now it came to pass1 when he drew nigh to ,jericho1 that a certain blind man sat by the way side1 begging4 #ah3cf4 ,and when he heard the multitude passing by1 he asked what this meant4 #ah3cg4 ,and they told him that ,jesus of ,nazareth was passing by4 #ah3ch4 ,and he cried out1 saying3 ,jesus1 ,son of ,david1 have mercy on me4 #ah3ci4 ,and they that went before rebuked him1 that he should hold his peace3 but he cried out much more3 ,son of ,david1 have mercy on me4 #ah3dj4 ,and ,jesus standing1 commanded him to be brought unto him4 ,and when he was come near1 he asked him1 #ah3da4 ,saying2 ,what wilt thou that ,i do to thee8 ,but he said3 ,lord1 that ,i may see4 #ah3db4 ,and ,jesus said to him3 ,receive thy sight3 thy faith hath made thee whole4 #ah3dc4 ,and immediately he saw and followed him1 glorifying ,god4 ,and all the people1 when they saw it1 gave praise to ,god4 ,luke ,chapter #ai ,zacheus entertains ,christ4 ,the parable of the pounds4 ,christ rides upon an ass and weeps over ,jerusalem4 #ai3a4 ,and entering he walked through ,jericho4 #ai3b4 ,and behold1 there was a man named ,zacheus1 who was the chief of the publicans3 and he was rich4 #ai3c4 ,and he sought to see ,jesus who he was3 and he could not for the crowd1 because he was low of stature4 #ai3d4 ,and running before1 he climbed up into a sycamore tree1 that he might see him3 for he was to pass that way4 #ai3e4 ,and when ,jesus was come to the place1 looking up1 he saw him and said to him3 ,zacheus1 make haste and come down3 for this day ,i must abide in thy house4 #ai3f4 ,and he made haste and came down and received him with joy4 #ai3g4 ,and when all saw it1 they murmured1 saying1 that he was gone to be a guest with a man that was a sinner4 #ai3h4 ,but ,zacheus standing1 said to the ,lord3 ,behold1 ,lord1 the half of my goods ,i give to the poor2 and if ,i have wronged any man of any thing1 ,i restore him fourfold4 #ai3i4 ,jesus said to him3 ,this day is salvation come to this house1 because he also is a son of ,abraham4 #ai3aj4 ,for the ,son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost4 #ai3aa4 ,as they were hearing these things1 he added and spoke a parable1 because he was nigh to ,jerusalem and because they thought that the kingdom of ,god should immediately be manifested4 #ai3ab4 ,he said therefore3 a certain nobleman went into a far country1 to receive for himself a kingdom and to return4 #ai3ac4 ,and calling his ten servants1 he gave them ten pounds and said to them3 ,trade till ,i come4 ,he gave them ten pounds444 ,in the original1 what is here translated a pound1 is in ,latin1 mina1 in value of our coin1 three pounds two shillings and sixpence4 #ai3ad4 ,but his citizens hated him and they sent an embassage after him1 saying3 ,we will not have this man to reign over us4 #ai3ae4 ,and it came to pass that he returned1 having received the kingdom3 and he commanded his servants to be called1 to whom he had given the money1 that he might know how much every man had gained by trading1 #ai3af4 ,and the first came saying3 ,lord1 thy pound hath gained ten pounds4 #ai3ag4 ,and he said to him3 ,well done1 thou good servant1 because thou hast been faithful in a little1 thou shalt have power over ten cities4 #ai3ah4 ,and the second came1 saying3 ,lord1 thy pound hath gained five pounds4 #ai3ai4 ,and he said to him3 ,be thou also over five cities4 #ai3bj4 ,and another came1 saying3 ,lord1 behold here is thy pound1 which ,i have kept laid up in a napkin4 #ai3ba4 ,for ,i feared thee1 because thou art an austere man3 thou takest up what thou didst not lay down3 and thou reapest that which thou didst not sow4 #ai3bb4 ,he saith to him3 ,out of thy own mouth ,i judge thee1 thou wicked servant4 ,thou knewest that ,i was an austere man1 taking up what ,i laid not down and reaping that which ,i did not sow4 #ai3bc4 ,and why then didst thou not give my money into the bank1 that at my coming ,i might have exacted it with usury8 #ai3bd4 ,and he said to them that stood by3 ,take the pound away from him and give it to him that hath ten pounds4 #ai3be4 ,and they said to him3 ,lord1 he hath ten pounds4 #ai3bf4 ,but ,i say to you that to every one that hath shall be given1 and he shall abound3 and from him that hath not1 even that which he hath shall be taken from him4 #ai3bg4 ,but as for those my enemies1 who would not have me reign over them1 bring them hither and kill them before me4 #ai3bh4 ,and having said these things1 he went before1 going up to ,jerusalem4 #ai3bi4 ,and it came to pass1 when he was come nigh to ,bethphage and ,bethania1 unto the mount called ,olivet1 he sent two of his disciples1 #ai3cj4 ,saying3 ,go into the town which is over against you1 at your entering into which you shall find the colt of an ass tied1 on which no man ever hath sitten3 loose him and bring him hither4 #ai3ca4 ,and if any man shall ask you3 ,why do you loose him8 ,you shall say thus unto him3 ,because the ,lord hath need of his service4 #ai3cb4 ,and they that were sent went their way and found the colt standing1 as he said unto them4 #ai3cc4 ,and as they were loosing the colt1 the owners thereof said to them3 ,why loose you the colt8 #ai3cd4 ,but they said3 ,because the ,lord hath need of him4 #ai3ce4 ,and they brought him to ,jesus4 ,and casting their garments on the colt1 they set ,jesus thereon4 #ai3cf4 ,and as he went1 they spread their clothes underneath in the way4 #ai3cg4 ,and when he was now coming near the descent of ,mount ,olivet1 the whole multitude of his disciples began with joy to praise ,god with a loud voice1 for all the mighty works they had seen1 #ai3ch4 ,saying3 ,blessed be the king who cometh in the name of the ,lord6 ,peace in heaven and glory on high6 #ai3ci4 ,and some of the ,pharisees1 from amongst the multitude1 said to him3 ,master1 rebuke thy disciples4 #ai3dj4 ,to whom he said3 ,i say to you that if these shall hold their peace1 the stones will cry out4 #ai3da4 ,and when he drew near1 seeing the city1 he wept over it1 saying3 #ai3db4 ,if thou also hadst known1 and that in this thy day1 the things that are to thy peace3 but now they are hidden from thy eyes4 #ai3dc4 ,for the days shall come upon thee3 and thy enemies shall cast a trench about thee and compass thee round and straiten thee on every side1 #ai3dd4 ,and beat thee flat to the ground1 and thy children who are in thee4 ,and they shall not leave in thee a stone upon a stone3 because thou hast not known the time of thy visitation4 #ai3de4 ,and entering into the temple1 he began to cast out them that sold therein and them that bought4 #ai3df4 ,saying to them3 ,it is written3 ,my house is the house of prayer4 ,but you have made it a den of thieves4 #ai3dg4 ,and he was teaching daily in the temple4 ,and the chief priests and the scribes and the rulers of the people sought to destroy him4 #ai3dh4 ,and they found not what to do to him3 for all the people were very attentive to hear him4 ,luke ,chapter #bj ,the parable of the husbandmen4 ,of paying tribute to ,caesar and of the resurrection of the dead4 #bj3a4 ,and it came to pass that on one of the days1 as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel1 the chief priests and the scribes1 with the ancients1 met together1 #bj3b4 ,and spoke to him1 saying3 ,tell us1 by what authority dost thou these things8 ,or1 who is he that hath given thee this authority8 #bj3c4 ,and ,jesus answering1 said to them3 ,i will also ask you one thing4 ,answer me3 #bj3d4 ,the baptism of ,john1 was it from heaven1 or of men8 #bj3e4 ,but they thought within themselves1 saying3 ,if we shall say1 ,from heaven3 he will say3 ,why then did you not believe in him8 #bj3f4 ,but if we say1 of men3 the whole people will stone us4 ,for they are persuaded that ,john was a prophet4 #bj3g4 ,and they answered that they knew not whence it was4 #bj3h4 ,and ,jesus said to them3 ,neither do ,i tell you by what authority ,i do these things4 #bj3i4 ,and he began to speak to the people this parable3 ,a certain man planted a vineyard and let it out to husbandmen3 and he was abroad for a long time4 #bj3aj4 ,and at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen1 that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard4 ,who1 beating him1 sent him away empty4 #bj3aa4 ,and again he sent another servant4 ,but they beat him also and1 treating him reproachfully1 sent him away empty4 #bj3ab4 ,and again he sent the third3 and they wounded him also and cast him out4 #bj3ac4 ,then the lord of the vineyard said3 ,what shall ,i do8 ,i will send my beloved son4 ,it may be1 when they see him1 they will reverence him4 #bj3ad4 ,whom1 when the husbandmen saw1 they thought within themselves1 saying3 ,this is the heir4 ,let us kill him1 that the inheritance may be ours4 #bj3ae4 ,so casting him out of the vineyard1 they killed him4 ,what therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them8 #bj3af4 ,he will come and will destroy these husbandmen and will give the vineyard to others4 ,which they hearing1 said to him3 ,god forbid4 #bj3ag4 ,but he looking on them1 said3 ,what is this then that is written1 ,the stone1 which the builders rejected1 the same is become the head of the corner8 #bj3ah4 ,whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be bruised3 and upon whomsoever it shall fall1 it will grind him to powder4 #bj3ai4 ,and the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him the same hour3 but they feared the people1 for they knew that he spoke this parable to them4 #bj3bj4 ,and being upon the watch1 they sent spies1 who should feign themselves just1 that they might take hold of him in his words1 that they might deliver him up to the authority and power of the governor4 #bj3ba4 ,and they asked him1 saying3 ,master1 we know that thou speakest and teachest rightly3 and thou dost not respect any person1 but teachest the way of ,god in truth4 #bj3bb4 ,is it lawful for us to give tribute to ,caesar1 or no8 #bj3bc4 ,but he1 considering their guile1 said to them3 ,why tempt you me8 #bj3bd4 ,shew me a penny4 ,whose image and inscription hath it8 ,they answering1 said to him3 ,caesar's4 #bj3be4 ,and he said to them3 ,render therefore to ,caesar the things1 that are ,caesar's3 and to ,god the things that are ,god's4 #bj3bf4 ,and they could not reprehend his word before the people3 and wondering at his answer1 they held their peace4 #bj3bg4 ,and there came to him some of the ,sadducees1 who deny that there is any resurrection3 and they asked him1 #bj3bh4 ,saying3 ,master1 ,moses wrote unto us3 ,if any man's brother die1 having a wife1 and he leave no children1 that his brother should take her to wife and raise up seed unto his brother4 #bj3bi4 ,there were therefore seven brethren3 and the first took a wife and died without children4 #bj3cj4 ,and the next took her to wife3 and he also died childless4 #bj3ca4 ,and the third took her4 ,and in like manner1 all the seven3 and they left no children and died4 #bj3cb4 ,last of all the woman died also4 #bj3cc4 ,in the resurrection therefore1 whose wife of them shall she be8 ,for all the seven had her to wife4 #bj3cd4 ,and ,jesus said to them3 ,the children of this world marry and are given in marriage3 #bj3ce4 ,but they that shall be accounted worthy of that world and of the resurrection from the dead shall neither be married nor take wives4 #bj3cf4 ,neither can they die any more for they are equal to the angels and are the children of ,god1 being the children of the resurrection4 #bj3cg4 ,now that the dead rise again1 ,moses also shewed at the bush1 when he called the ,lord3 ,the ,god of ,abraham and the ,god of ,isaac and the ,god of ,jacob4 #bj3ch4 ,for he is not the ,god of the dead1 but of the living3 for all live to him4 #bj3ci4 ,and some of the scribes answering1 said to him3 ,master1 thou hast said well4 #bj3dj4 ,and after that they durst not ask him any more questions4 #bj3da4 ,but he said to them3 ,how say they that ,christ is the son of ,david8 #bj3db4 ,and ,david himself saith in the book of ,psalms3 ,the ,lord said to my ,lord1 sit thou on my right hand1 #bj3dc4 ,till ,i make thy enemies thy footstool4 #bj3dd4 ,david then calleth him ,lord4 ,and how is he his son8 #bj3de4 ,and in the hearing of all the people1 he said to his disciples3 #bj3df4 ,beware of the scribes1 who desire to walk in long robes and love salutations in the market place and the first chairs in the synagogues and the chief rooms at feasts3 #bj3dg4 ,who devour the houses of widows1 feigning long prayer4 ,these shall receive greater damnation4 ,luke ,chapter #ba ,the widow's mites4 ,the signs that should forerun the destruction of ,jerusalem and the end of the world4 #ba3a4 ,and looking on1 he saw the rich men cast their gifts into the treasury4 #ba3b4 ,and he saw also a certain poor widow casting in two brass mites4 #ba3c4 ,and he said3 ,verily1 ,i say to you that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all4 #ba3d4 ,for all these have of their abundance cast into the offerings of ,god3 but she of her want hath cast in all the living that she had4 #ba3e4 ,and some saying of the temple that it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts1 he said3 #ba3f4 ,these things which you see1 the days will come in which there shall not be left a stone upon a stone that shall not be thrown down4 #ba3g4 ,and they asked him1 saying3 ,master1 when shall these things be8 ,and what shall be the sign when they shall begin to come to pass8 #ba3h4 ,who said3 ,take heed you be not seduced3 for many will come in my name1 saying3 ,i am he and the time is at hand4 ,go ye not therefore after them4 #ba3i4 ,and when you shall hear of wars and seditions1 be not terrified4 ,these things must first come to pass3 but the end is not yet presently4 #ba3aj4 ,then he said to them3 ,nation shall rise against nation1 and kingdom against kingdom4 #ba3aa4 ,and there shall be great earthquakes in divers places and pestilences and famines and terrors from heaven3 and there shall be great signs4 #ba3ab4 ,but before all these things1 they will lay their hands on you and persecute you1 delivering you up to the synagogues and into prisons1 dragging you before kings and governors1 for my name's sake4 #ba3ac4 ,and it shall happen unto you for a testimony4 #ba3ad4 ,lay it up therefore in your hearts1 not to meditate before how you shall answer3 #ba3ae4 ,for ,i will give you a mouth and wisdom1 which all your adversaries shall not be able to resist and gainsay4 #ba3af4 ,and you shall be betrayed by your parents and brethren and kinsmen and friends3 and some of you they will put to death4 #ba3ag4 ,and you shall be hated by all men for my name's sake4 #ba3ah4 ,but a hair of your head shall not perish4 #ba3ai4 ,in your patience you shall possess your souls4 #ba3bj4 ,and when you shall see ,jerusalem compassed about with an army1 then know that the desolation thereof is at hand4 #ba3ba4 ,then let those who are in ,judea flee to the mountains3 and those who are in the midst thereof depart out3 and those who are in the countries not enter into it4 #ba3bb4 ,for these are the days of vengeance1 that all things may be fulfilled1 that are written4 #ba3bc4 ,but woe to them that are with child and give suck in those days3 for there shall be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people4 #ba3bd4 ,and they shall fall by the edge of the sword and shall be led away captives into all nations3 and ,jerusalem shall be trodden down by the ,gentiles till the times of the nations be fulfilled4 #ba3be4 ,and there shall be signs in the sun and in the moon and in the stars2 and upon the earth distress of nations1 by reason of the confusion of the roaring of the sea1 and of the waves3 #ba3bf4 ,men withering away for fear and expectation of what shall come upon the whole world4 ,for the powers of heaven shall be moved4 #ba3bg4 ,and then they shall see the ,son of man coming in a cloud1 with great power and majesty4 #ba3bh4 ,but when these things begin to come to pass1 look up and lift up your heads1 because your redemption is at hand4 #ba3bi4 ,and he spoke to them a similitude4 ,see the fig tree and all the trees3 #ba3cj4 ,when they now shoot forth their fruit1 you know that summer is nigh2 #ba3ca4 ,so you also1 when you shall see these things come to pass1 know that the kingdom of ,god is at hand4 #ba3cb4 ,amen1 ,i say to you1 this generation shall not pass away till all things be fulfilled4 #ba3cc4 ,heaven and earth shall pass away3 but my words shall not pass away4 #ba3cd4 ,and take heed to yourselves1 lest perhaps your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness and the cares of this life3 and that day come upon you suddenly4 #ba3ce4 ,for as a snare shall it come upon all that sit upon the face of the whole earth4 #ba3cf4 ,watch ye1 therefore1 praying at all times1 that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that are to come and to stand before the ,son of man4 #ba3cg4 ,and in the daytime1 he was teaching in the temple3 but at night going out1 he abode in the mount that is called ,olivet4 #ba3ch4 ,and all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple1 to hear him4 ,luke ,chapter #bb ,the treason of ,judas4 ,the last supper4 ,the first part of the history of the passion4 #bb3a4 ,now the feast of unleavened bread1 which is called the pasch1 was at hand4 #bb3b4 ,and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put ,jesus to death3 but they feared the people4 #bb3c4 ,and ,satan entered into ,judas1 who was surnamed ,iscariot1 one of the twelve4 #bb3d4 ,and he went and discoursed with the chief priests and the magistrates1 how he might betray him to them4 #bb3e4 ,and they were glad and covenanted to give him money4 #bb3f4 ,and he promised4 ,and he sought opportunity to betray him in the absence of the multitude4 #bb3g4 ,and the day of the unleavened bread came1 on which it was necessary that the pasch should be killed4 #bb3h4 ,and he sent ,peter and ,john1 saying3 ,go1 and prepare for us the pasch1 that we may eat4 #bb3i4 ,but they said3 ,where wilt thou that we prepare8 #bb3aj4 ,and he said to them3 ,behold1 as you go into the city1 there shall meet you a man carrying a pitcher of water3 follow him into the house where he entereth in4 #bb3aa4 ,and you shall say to the goodman of the house3 ,the master saith to thee3 ,where is the guest chamber1 where ,i may eat the pasch with my disciples8 #bb3ab4 ,and he will shew you a large dining room1 furnished4 ,and there prepare4 #bb3ac4 ,and they going1 found as he had said to them and made ready the pasch4 #bb3ad4 ,and when the hour was come1 he sat down3 and the twelve apostles with him4 #bb3ae4 ,and he said to them3 ,with desire ,i have desired to eat this pasch with you1 before ,i suffer4 #bb3af4 ,for ,i say to you that from this time ,i will not eat it1 till it be fulfilled in the kingdom of ,god4 #bb3ag4 ,and having taken the chalice1 he gave thanks and said3 ,take and divide it among you4 #bb3ah4 ,for ,i say to you that ,i will not drink of the fruit of the vine1 till the kingdom of ,god come4 #bb3ai4 ,and taking bread1 he gave thanks and brake and gave to them1 saying3 ,this is my body1 which is given for you4 ,do this for a commemoration of me4 ,do this for a commemoration of me444 ,this sacrifice and sacrament is to be continued in the church1 to the end of the world1 to shew forth the death of ,christ1 until he cometh4 ,but this commemoration1 or remembrance1 is by no means inconsistent with the real presence of his body and blood1 under these sacramental veils1 which represent his death2 on the contrary1 it is the manner that he himself hath commanded1 of commemorating and celebrating his death1 by offering in sacrifice1 and receiving in the sacrament1 that body and blood by which we were redeemed4 #bb3bj4 ,in like manner1 the chalice also1 after he had supped1 saying3 ,this is the chalice1 the new testament in my blood1 which shall be shed for you4 #bb3ba4 ,but yet behold3 the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table4 #bb3bb4 ,and the ,son of man indeed goeth1 according to that which is determined3 but yet1 woe to that man by whom he shall be betrayed4 #bb3bc4 ,and they began to inquire among themselves1 which of them it was that should do this thing4 #bb3bd4 ,and there was also a strife amongst them1 which of them should seem to be the greater4 #bb3be4 ,and he said to them3 ,the kings of the ,gentiles lord it over them2 and they that have power over them are called beneficent4 #bb3bf4 ,but you not so3 but he that is the greater among you1 let him become as the younger3 and he that is the leader1 as he that serveth4 #bb3bg4 ,for which is greater1 he that sitteth at table or he that serveth8 ,is not he that sitteth at table8 ,but ,i am in the midst of you1 as he that serveth4 #bb3bh4 ,and you are they who have continued with me in my temptations3 #bb3bi4 ,and ,i dispose to you1 as my ,father hath disposed to me1 a kingdom2 #bb3cj4 ,that you may eat and drink at my table1 in my kingdom3 and may sit upon thrones1 judging the twelve tribes of ,israel4 #bb3ca4 ,and the ,lord said3 ,simon1 ,simon1 behold ,satan hath desired to have you1 that he may sift you as wheat4 #bb3cb4 ,but ,i have prayed for thee1 that thy faith fail not3 and thou1 being once converted1 confirm thy brethren4 #bb3cc4 ,who said to him3 ,lord1 ,i am ready to go with thee1 both into prison and to death4 #bb3cd4 ,and he said3 ,i say to thee1 ,peter1 the cock shall not crow this day1 till thou thrice deniest that thou knowest me4 ,and he said to them3 #bb3ce4 ,when ,i sent you without purse and scrip and shoes1 did you want anything8 #bb3cf4 ,but they said3 ,nothing4 ,then said he unto them3 ,but now he that hath a purse1 let him take it1 and likewise a scrip3 and he that hath not1 let him sell his coat and buy a sword4 #bb3cg4 ,for ,i say to you that this that is written must yet be fulfilled in me4 ,and with the wicked was he reckoned4 ,for the things concerning me have an end4 #bb3ch4 ,but they said3 ,lord1 behold1 here are two swords4 ,and he said to them3 ,it is enough4 #bb3ci4 ,and going out1 he went1 according to his custom1 to the ,mount of ,olives4 ,and his disciples also followed him4 #bb3dj4 ,and when he was come to the place1 he said to them3 ,pray1 lest ye enter into temptation4 #bb3da4 ,and he was withdrawn away from them a stone's cast4 ,and kneeling down1 he prayed4 #bb3db4 ,saying3 ,father1 if thou wilt1 remove this chalice from me3 but yet not my will1 but thine be done4 #bb3dc4 ,and there appeared to him an angel from heaven1 strengthening him4 ,and being in an agony1 he prayed the longer4 #bb3dd4 ,and his sweat became as drops of blood1 trickling down upon the ground4 #bb3de4 ,and when he rose up from prayer and was come to the disciples1 he found them sleeping for sorrow4 #bb3df4 ,and he said to them3 ,why sleep you8 ,arise3 pray3 lest you enter into temptation4 #bb3dg4 ,as he was yet speaking1 behold a multitude2 and he that was called ,judas1 one of the twelve1 went before them and drew near to ,jesus1 for to kiss him4 #bb3dh4 ,and ,jesus said to him3 ,judas1 dost thou betray the ,son of man with a kiss8 #bb3di4 ,and they that were about him1 seeing what would follow1 said to him3 ,lord1 shall we strike with the sword8 #bb3ej4 ,and one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear4 #bb3ea4 ,but ,jesus answering1 said3 ,suffer ye thus far4 ,and when he had touched his ear1 he healed him4 #bb3eb4 ,and ,jesus said to the chief priests and magistrates of the temple and the ancients1 that were come unto him3 ,are ye come out1 as it were against a thief1 with swords and clubs8 #bb3ec4 ,when ,i was daily with you in the temple1 you did not stretch forth your hands against me3 but this is your hour and the power of darkness4 #bb3ed4 ,and apprehending him1 they led him to the high priest's house4 ,but ,peter followed afar off4 #bb3ee4 ,and when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall and were sitting about it1 ,peter was in the midst of them4 #bb3ef4 ,whom when a certain servant maid had seen sitting at the light and had earnestly beheld him1 she said3 ,this man also was with him4 #bb3eg4 ,but he denied him1 saying3 ,woman1 ,i know him not4 #bb3eh4 ,and after a little while1 another seeing him1 said3 ,thou also art one of them4 ,but ,peter said3 ,o man1 ,i am not4 ,another1 etc444 ,observe here1 in order to reconcile the four ,evangelists1 that divers persons concurred in charging ,peter with being ,christ's disciple2 till at length they brought him to deny him thrice4 #a4 ,the porteress that let him in1 and afterwards seeing him at the fire1 first put the question to him2 and then positively affirmed that he was with ,christ4 #b4 ,another maid accused him to the standers by2 and gave occasion to the man here mentioned to renew the charge against him1 which caused the second denial4 #c4 ,others of the company took notice of his being a ,galilean2 and were seconded by the kinsman of ,malchus1 who affirmed he had seen him in the garden4 ,and this drew on the third denial4 #bb3ei4 ,and after the space1 as it were of one hour1 another certain man affirmed1 saying3 ,of a truth1 this man was also with him3 for he is also a ,galilean4 #bb3fj4 ,and ,peter said3 ,man1 ,i know not what thou sayest4 ,and immediately1 as he was yet speaking1 the cock crew4 #bb3fa4 ,and the ,lord turning looked on ,peter4 ,and ,peter remembered the word of the ,lord1 as he had said3 ,before the cock crow1 thou shalt deny thrice4 #bb3fb4 ,and ,peter going out1 wept bitterly4 #bb3fc4 ,and the men that held him mocked him and struck him4 #bb3fd4 ,and they blindfolded him and smote his face4 ,and they asked him saying3 ,prophesy3 ,who is it that struck thee8 #bb3fe4 ,and blaspheming1 many other things they said against him4 #bb3ff4 ,and as soon as it was day1 the ancients of the people and the chief priests and scribes came together4 ,and they brought him into their council saying3 ,if thou be the ,christ1 tell us4 #bb3fg4 ,and he saith to them3 ,if ,i shall tell you1 you will not believe me4 #bb3fh4 ,and if ,i shall also ask you1 you will not answer me1 nor let me go4 #bb3fi4 ,but hereafter the ,son of man shall be sitting on the right hand of the power of ,god4 #bb3gj4 ,then said they all3 ,art thou then the ,son of ,god8 ,who said3 ,you say that ,i am4 #bb3ga4 ,and they said3 ,what need we any further testimony8 ,for we ourselves have heard it from his own mouth4 ,luke ,chapter #bc ,the continuation of the history of the passion4 #bc3a4 ,and the whole multitude of them1 rising up1 led him to ,pilate4 #bc3b4 ,and they began to accuse him1 saying3 ,we have found this man perverting our nation and forbidding to give tribute to ,caesar and saying that he is ,christ the king4 #bc3c4 ,and ,pilate asked him1 saying3 ,art thou the king of the ,jews8 ,but he answering1 said3 ,thou sayest it4 #bc3d4 ,and ,pilate said to the chief priests and to the multitudes3 ,i find no cause in this man4 #bc3e4 ,but they were more earnest1 saying3 ,he stirreth up the people1 teaching throughout all ,judea1 beginning from ,galilee to this place4 #bc3f4 ,but ,pilate hearing ,galilee1 asked if the man were of ,galilee8 #bc3g4 ,and when he understood that he was of ,herod's jurisdiction1 he sent him away to ,herod1 who was also himself at ,jerusalem in those days4 #bc3h4 ,and ,herod seeing ,jesus1 was very glad3 for he was desirous of a long time to see him1 because he had heard many things of him2 and he hoped to see some sign wrought by him4 #bc3i4 ,and he questioned him in many words4 ,but he answered him nothing4 #bc3aj4 ,and the chief priests and the scribes stood by1 earnestly accusing him4 #bc3aa4 ,and ,herod with his army set him at nought and mocked him1 putting on him a white garment3 and sent him back to ,pilate4 #bc3ab4 ,and ,herod and ,pilate were made friends1 that same day3 for before they were enemies one to another4 #bc3ac4 ,and ,pilate1 calling together the chief priests and the magistrates and the people1 #bc3ad4 ,said to them3 ,you have presented unto me this man as one that perverteth the people4 ,and behold ,i1 having examined him before you1 find no cause in this man1 in those things wherein you accuse him4 #bc3ae4 ,no1 nor ,herod neither4 ,for1 ,i sent you to him3 and behold1 nothing worthy of death is done to him4 #bc3af4 ,i will chastise him therefore and release him4 #bc3ag4 ,now of necessity he was to release unto them one upon the feast day4 #bc3ah4 ,but the whole multitude together cried out1 saying3 ,away with this man1 and release unto us ,barabbas3 #bc3ai4 ,who1 for a certain sedition made in the city and for a murder1 was cast into prison4 #bc3bj4 ,and ,pilate again spoke to them1 desiring to release ,jesus4 #bc3ba4 ,but they cried again1 saying3 ,crucify him1 ,crucify him4 #bc3bb4 ,and he said to them the third time3 ,why1 what evil hath this man done8 ,i find no cause of death in him4 ,i will chastise him therefore and let him go4 #bc3bc4 ,but they were instant with loud voices1 requiring that he might be crucified4 ,and their voices prevailed4 #bc3bd4 ,and ,pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required4 #bc3be4 ,and he released unto them him who for murder and sedition had been cast into prison1 whom they had desired4 ,but ,jesus he delivered up to their will4 #bc3bf4 ,and as they led him away1 they laid hold of one ,simon of ,cyrene1 coming from the country2 and they laid the cross on him to carry after ,jesus4 #bc3bg4 ,and there followed him a great multitude of people and of women1 who bewailed and lamented him4 #bc3bh4 ,but ,jesus turning to them1 said3 ,daughters of ,jerusalem1 weep not over me2 but weep for yourselves and for your children4 #bc3bi4 ,for behold1 the days shall come1 wherein they will say3 ,blessed are the barren and the wombs that have not borne and the paps that have not given suck4 #bc3cj4 ,then shall they begin to say to the mountains3 ,fall upon us4 ,and to the hills3 ,cover us4 #bc3ca4 ,for if in the green wood they do these things1 what shall be done in the dry8 #bc3cb4 ,and there were also two other malefactors led with him to be put to death4 #bc3cc4 ,and when they were come to the place which is called ,calvary1 they crucified him there3 and the robbers1 one on the right hand1 and the other on the left4 #bc3cd4 ,and ,jesus said3 ,father1 forgive them1 for they know not what they do4 ,but they1 dividing his garments1 cast lots4 #bc3ce4 ,and the people stood beholding4 ,and the rulers with them derided him1 saying3 ,he saved others3 let him save himself1 if he be ,christ1 the elect of ,god4 #bc3cf4 ,and the soldiers also mocked him1 coming to him and offering him vinegar1 #bc3cg4 ,and saying3 ,if thou be the king of the ,jews1 save thyself4 #bc3ch4 ,and there was also a superscription written over him in letters of ,greek and ,latin and ,hebrew ,,this ,,is ,,the ,,king ,,of ,,the ,,jews4 #bc3ci4 ,and one of those robbers who were hanged blasphemed him1 saying3 ,if thou be ,christ1 save thyself and us4 #bc3dj4 ,but the other answering1 rebuked him1 saying3 ,neither dost thou fear ,god1 seeing2 thou art under the same condemnation8 #bc3da4 ,and we indeed justly3 for we receive the due reward of our deeds4 ,but this man hath done no evil4 #bc3db4 ,and he said to ,jesus3 ,lord1 remember me when thou shalt come into thy kingdom4 #bc3dc4 ,and ,jesus said to him3 ,amen ,i say to thee3 ,this day thou shalt be with me in paradise4 ,in paradise444 ,that is1 in the happy state of rest1 joy1 and peace everlasting4 ,christ was pleased1 by a special privilege1 to reward the faith and confession of the penitent thief1 with a full discharge of all his sins1 both as to the guilt and punishment2 and to introduce him immediately after death into the happy society of the saints1 whose limbo1 that is1 the place of their confinement1 was now made a paradise by our ,lord's going thither4 #bc3dd4 ,and it was almost the sixth hour3 and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour4 #bc3de4 ,and the sun was darkened1 and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst4 #bc3df4 ,and ,jesus crying with a loud voice1 said3 ,father1 into thy hands ,i commend my spirit4 ,and saying this1 he gave up the ghost4 #bc3dg4 ,now1 the centurion1 seeing what was done1 glorified ,god1 saying3 ,indeed this was a just man4 #bc3dh4 ,and all the multitude of them that were come together to that sight and saw the things that were done returned1 striking their breasts4 #bc3di4 ,and all his acquaintance and the women that had followed him from ,galilee stood afar off1 beholding these things4 #bc3ej4 ,and behold there was a man named ,joseph who was a counsellor1 a good and a just man1 #bc3ea4 7,the same had not consented to their counsel and doings7 of ,arimathea1 a city of ,judea3 who also himself looked for the kingdom of ,god4 #bc3eb4 ,this man went to ,pilate and begged the body of ,jesus4 #bc3ec4 ,and taking him down1 he wrapped him in fine linen and laid him in a sepulchre that was hewed in stone1 wherein never yet any man had been laid4 #bc3ed4 ,and it was the day of the ,parasceve3 and the sabbath drew on4 ,parasceve444 ,that is1 the eve1 or day of preparation for the sabbath4 #bc3ee4 ,and the women that were come with him from ,galilee1 following after1 saw the sepulchre and how his body was laid4 #bc3ef4 ,and returning1 they prepared spices and ointments3 and on the sabbath day they rested1 according to the commandment4 ,luke ,chapter #bd ,christ's resurrection and manifestation of himself to his disciples4 #bd3a4 ,and on the first day of the week1 very early in the morning1 they came to the sepulchre1 bringing the spices which they had prepared4 #bd3b4 ,and they found the stone rolled back from the sepulchre4 #bd3c4 ,and going in1 they found not the body of the ,lord ,jesus4 #bd3d4 ,and it came to pass1 as they were astonished in their mind at this1 behold1 two men stood by them1 in shining apparel4 #bd3e4 ,and as they were afraid and bowed down their countenance towards the ground1 they said unto them3 ,why seek you the living with the dead8 #bd3f4 ,he is not here1 but is risen4 ,remember how he spoke unto you1 when he was yet in ,galilee1 #bd3g4 ,saying3 ,the ,son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and the third day rise again4 #bd3h4 ,and they remembered his words4 #bd3i4 ,and going back from the sepulchre1 they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest4 #bd3aj4 ,and it was ,mary ,magdalen and ,joanna and ,mary of ,james and the other women that were with them1 who told these things to the apostles4 #bd3aa4 ,and these words seemed to them as idle tales3 and they did not believe them4 #bd3ab4 ,but ,peter rising up1 ran to the sepulchre and1 stooping down1 he saw the linen cloths laid by themselves3 and went away wondering in himself at that which was come to pass4 #bd3ac4 ,and behold1 two of them went1 the same day1 to a town which was sixty furlongs from ,jerusalem1 named ,emmaus4 #bd3ad4 ,and they talked together of all these things which had happened4 #bd3ae4 ,and it came to pass that while they talked and reasoned with themselves1 ,jesus himself also1 drawing near1 went with them4 #bd3af4 ,but their eyes were held1 that they should not know him4 #bd3ag4 ,and he said to them3 ,what are these discourses that you hold one with another as you walk and are sad8 #bd3ah4 ,and the one of them1 whose name was ,cleophas1 answering1 said to him3 ,art thou only a stranger in ,jerusalem1 and hast not known the things that have been done there in these days8 #bd3ai4 ,to whom he said3 ,what things8 ,and they said3 ,concerning ,jesus of ,nazareth1 who was a prophet1 mighty in work and word before ,god and all the people4 #bd3bj4 ,and how our chief priests and princes delivered him to be condemned to death and crucified him4 #bd3ba4 ,but we hoped that it was he that should have redeemed ,israel4 ,and now besides all this1 to-day is the third day since these things were done4 #bd3bb4 ,yea and certain women also of our company affrighted us who1 before it was light1 were at the sepulchre1 #bd3bc4 ,and not finding his body1 came1 saying that they had all seen a vision of angels1 who say that he is alive4 #bd3bd4 ,and some of our people went to the sepulchre and found it so as the women had said3 but him they found not4 #bd3be4 ,then he said to them3 ,o foolish and slow of heart to believe in all things1 ,which the prophets have spoken4 #bd3bf4 ,ought not ,christ to have suffered these things and so1 to enter into his glory8 #bd3bg4 ,and beginning at ,moses and all the prophets1 he expounded to them in all the scriptures the things that were concerning him4 #bd3bh4 ,and they drew nigh to the town whither they were going3 and he made as though he would go farther4 #bd3bi4 ,but they constrained him1 saying3 ,stay with us1 because it is towards evening and the day is now far spent4 ,and he went in with them4 #bd3cj4 ,and it came to pass1 whilst he was at table with them1 he took bread and blessed and brake and gave to them4 #bd3ca4 ,and their eyes were opened3 and they knew him4 ,and he vanished out of their sight4 #bd3cb4 ,and they said one to the other3 ,was not our heart burning within us1 whilst he spoke in the way and opened to us the scriptures8 #bd3cc4 ,and rising up1 the same hour1 they went back to ,jerusalem3 and they found the eleven gathered together1 and those that were with them1 #bd3cd4 ,saying3 ,the ,lord is risen indeed and hath appeared to ,simon4 #bd3ce4 ,and they told what things were done in the way3 and how they knew him in the breaking of bread4 #bd3cf4 ,now1 whilst they were speaking these things1 ,jesus stood in the midst of them and saith to them3 ,peace be to you4 ,it is ,i3 ,fear not4 #bd3cg4 ,but they being troubled and frightened1 supposed that they saw a spirit4 #bd3ch4 ,and he said to them3 ,why are you troubled1 and why do thoughts arise in your hearts8 #bd3ci4 ,see my hands and feet1 that it is ,i myself4 ,handle1 and see3 for a spirit hath not flesh and bones1 as you see me to have4 #bd3dj4 ,and when he had said this1 he shewed them his hands and feet4 #bd3da4 ,but while they yet believed not and wondered for joy1 he said3 ,have you here any thing to eat8 #bd3db4 ,and they offered him a piece of a broiled fish and a honeycomb4 #bd3dc4 ,and when he had eaten before them1 taking the remains1 he gave to them4 #bd3dd4 ,and he said to them3 ,these are the words which ,i spoke to you while ,i was yet with you1 that all things must needs be fulfilled which are written in the law of ,moses and in the prophets and in the psalms1 concerning me4 #bd3de4 ,then he opened their understanding1 that they might understand the scriptures4 #bd3df4 ,and he said to them3 ,thus it is written1 and thus it behoved ,christ to suffer and to rise again from the dead1 the third day3 #bd3dg4 ,and that penance and remission of sins should be preached in his name1 unto all nations1 beginning at ,jerusalem4 #bd3dh4 ,and you are witnesses of these things4 #bd3di4 ,and ,i send the promise of my ,father upon you3 but stay you in the city till you be endued with power from on high4 ,the promise of my ,father444 that is1 the ,holy ,ghost1 whom ,christ had promised that his ,father and he would send1 ,john #ad4 #bf1 and #ag4 #g4 #bd3ej4 ,and he led them out as far as ,bethania3 and lifting up his hands1 he blessed them4 #bd3ea4 ,and it came to pass1 whilst he blessed them1 he departed from them and was carried up to heaven4 #bd3eb4 ,and they adoring went back into ,jerusalem with great joy4 #bd3ec4 ,and they were always in the temple1 praising and blessing ,god4 ,amen4
