,,publisher',s ,,note4 ,this volume of ,mr4 ,nast's 8,christmas ,drawings0 is the first collection of his works which has been published4 ,the pictures are well called 8,drawings for the ,human ,race10 because they appeal to the sympathy of no particular religious denomination or political party1 but to the universal delight in the happiest of holidays1 consecrated by the loftiest associations and endeared by the tenderest domestic traditions4 ,christmas is the holiday of all2 but it is especially the ,children's day4 ,the grotesque and airy fancies of childhood which cling about ,santa ,claus1 as the good genius of ,christmas1 are reproduced upon these pages1 in delightfully imaginative reality by the sympathetic touch of the artist1 so that the book is an overflowing feast of true ,christmas cheer4 ,mr4 ,nast's hand1 when dealing with current topics of the time1 tips the flashing shafts of wit with morality2 with relentless humor puts cunning pretence in the pillory2 and exposes public wrong to the fatal merriment which laughs it away4 ,but the artist's hand is never happier than when1 with the lambent light of the same humor1 it irradiates the play of domestic affection1 and makes the home circle gay4 ,it is the bluff1 honest ,santa ,claus of 8,the ,night before ,christmas20 the ,santa ,claus of the reindeer and the sleigh1 alighting on the snowy roof1 and descending the chimney with his wondrous pack of treasures2 the ,santa ,claus of unsuspecting childhood1 and the ,mother ,goose of undoubting infancy1 to whom these pages introduce us4 ,there is no child who cannot understand them1 no parent who cannot enjoy them4 ,mr4 ,nast is fairly without a rival in this kind4 ,his ,santa ,claus is old ,father ,christmas himself1 and his welcome will be as general and as hearty as that which salutes the crammed and enchanted stocking on ,christmas morning4 ,illustration ,illustration3 ,,stocking ,,of ,,contents4 ,,stocking ,,of ,,contents4
