thereof2 provided1 nevertheless1 that such ,proprietor may appeal to a ,special ,general ,meeting1 by giving notice of such his or her intention to the ,secretary1 on or before the day when his or her next ,subscription would have become due2 and at such ,general ,meeting it shall be determined whether any1 and what relief shall be given4 ,,rule ,,viii4 ,every ,proprietor shall have the privilege of nominating to the ,school one ,pupil1 in respect of each ,share he or she may hold3 such ,pupil1 if the son1 grand-son1 step-son1 brother1 or nephew1 of the nominating ,proprietor1 shall be admitted without ballot2 but if not so related to the nominating ,proprietor1 he shall not be admitted without the previous consent of the ,committee of ,proprietors2 such consent to be ascertained by ballot1 7,sect4 ,,ii4 ,rule ,,iv47 and such ballot not to be made1 unless the ,nominator do give fourteen days previous notice thereof to the ,secretary2 which notice shall contain the name of the make known to the body of ,proprietors the nature of the subject to be discussed2 but no such proposition for alteration in the ,rules shall be finally decided upon1 except at a subsequent ,special ,general ,meeting1 to be summoned for the purpose4 ,,rule ,,iii4 ,special ,general ,meetings of the ,proprietors may be holden at the ,institution1 whenever the ,committee hereinafter named may deem it necessary1 or whenever an appeal is made to the authority of such ,meeting2 the ,secretary1 on the direction of the ,committee1 or at the request1 in writing1 of the ,appellant1 to convene such ,meeting1 giving each ,proprietor at least seven days notice thereof1 stating the hour and place of meeting1 and the subject to be laid before the ,proprietors3 such ,meeting may also be convened by the ,secretary1 with the like notice1 upon his being requested to do so by a requisition signed by seven ,proprietors4 ,,rule ,,iv4 ,all questions at ,general ,meetings shall be decided by a majority of the ,proprietors1 except on occasions of balloting for a ,proprietor or ,nominee1 when not less than three-fourths of the votes given shall be deemed to constitute a majority4 ,,rule ,v4 ,all ,lady ,institution1 and ,duties of the ,committee4 ,,rule ,i4 ,the affairs of the ,institution shall be under the management and direction of ,a ,president1 ,vice ,presidents1 ,three ,joint ,treasurers1 ,a ,secretary1 ,a ,physician1 ,two ,surgeons1 ,an ,architect1 and twelve other ,proprietors1 any five of whom shall be competent to act as a ,committee4 ,,rule ,,ii4 ,of the ,officers and the twelve other ,proprietors1 constituting the ,committee of ,management of the ,institution1 eight shall go out annually1 and a like number be elected in their stead2 the eight who go out to be however eligible for re-election4 ,the first ,re-election to take place at the ,annual ,general ,meeting in the year #ahcb2 but1 nevertheless1 no such ,re-election shall take place1 unless a ,requisition for that purpose be made by twelve ,proprietors1 and sent to the ,secretary thirty days prior to the ,annual ,general ,meeting4 ,in the event of such ,election being required1 the eight ,members of the ,committee who retire shall be those who have attended the least frequently at the previous ,meetings of the ,committee4 ,,rule ,,iii4 ,the ,committee shall have power from time to time to make such ,provisional ,rules and ,regulations respecting the conduct and management of the ,school1 and the general affairs of the ,institution1 as they may deem necessary3 such ,provisional ,rules and ,regulations shall have force until the next ,general ,meeting of ,proprietors1 when they shall be confirmed or annulled1 as the ,proprietors may see fit4 ,,rule ,,iv4 ,any vacancy occurring in the ,offices or ,committee during the year1 may be supplied by the ,committee1 at a ,special ,meeting to be called for that purpose1 by election1 either from their own body1 or from the ,proprietors at large4 ,,rule ,v4 ,the ,committee shall hold their ,meetings on the first ,tuesday ,evening in every ,month1 and oftener when they shall consider it necessary1 on such days1 and at such places1 as they may from time to time appoint4 ,,rule ,,vi4 ,the ,committee shall1 at their ,monthly ,meetings1 choose two of their body1 as ,visitors1 for the succeeding month3 such ,visitors shall be the only ,proprietors having right of access to the ,school during ,school hours1 except as hereinafter provided2 but the ,visitors may at any time introduce into the ,school1 at their discretion1 any other ,proprietor or ,stranger4 ,,rule ,,vii4 ,the ,visitors shall not interfere with the internal ,regulations of the ,school1 but shall inspect the ,school at least once a week1 and shall report to the ,general ,committee any irregularities or improprieties they may observe4 ,,section ,,iv4 ,special ,duties of the ,officers4 ,,rule ,i4 ,the ,president1 or one of the ,vice-,presidents1 shall preside at all ,meetings1 or1 in their absence1 such other ,proprietor shall preside as may be appointed provisionally4 ,,rule ,,ii4 ,the ,president or ,provisional ,chairman shall have a casting vote at all ,meetings4 7,see ,sect4 ,,ii4 ,rule ,,vii47 ,,rule ,,iii4 ,the ,president or ,provisional ,chairman shall sign the ,minutes of ,proceedings made at all ,meetings4 ,,rule ,,iv4 ,the ,president shall have charge of the ,original of the ,declaration and ,signatures of the ,proprietors of the ,institution1 and shall also have the custody of the ,register of ,shares4 ,,rule ,v4 ,the ,president shall sign all ,certificates of ,shares and ,transfers of ,shares4 ,,rule ,,vi4 ,the ,treasurers shall receive all monies payable or due to the ,institution1 and shall place the same to the account of the ,institution at the ,bankers4 ,,rule ,,vii4 ,the ,treasurers shall make all payments by draft on the ,bankers1 to be countersigned by the ,secretary1 or1 in his absence1 by a ,deputy3 the signature of one ,treasurer to such draft shall be sufficient4 ,their accounts shall be made up at the usual ,quarter ,days1 and audited1 ready to be presented at the then next periodical ,meeting of the ,committee4 ,,rule ,,viii4 ,the ,secretary shall conduct and record the ,correspondence of the ,institution1 and keep ,minutes of the ,proceedings of the ,committee1 and of the ,general ,meetings of ,proprietors4 ,,rule ,,ix4 ,he shall convene all ,meetings by ,written ,notices4 ,,rule ,x4 ,he shall fill up and countersign all ,certificates of ,shares1 and ,transfers of ,shares4 ,,rule ,,xi4 ,he shall have the custody of all the ,printed ,copies of the ,rules of the ,institution4 ,,rule ,,xii4 ,he shall keep the ,duplicate of the ,declaration1 signed by the ,proprietors4 ,,rule ,,xiii4 ,he shall be a ,member of all ,committees1 and1 in his absence1 a ,deputy may be appointed at any ,meeting then assembled4 ,,rule ,,xiv4 ,the ,medical ,officers shall1 as often as they deem it expedient1 or may be required by the ,committee1 visit the ,school for the purpose of ascertaining the state of cleanliness and ventilation of the ,school1 and all other matters that may conduce to the health of the ,boys2 and shall make such ,report to the ,committee as the case may require4 ,,rule ,,xv4 ,they shall particularly attend to any appearance of contagious1 infectious1 or epidemic disorders1 and if they apprehend the existence of any such disorders1 or have reasonable grounds to expect that they may be likely to appear1 they shall forthwith report the same to the ,committee1 or take such steps as the urgency of the case may require4 ,,rule ,,xvi4 ,the ,architect shall from time to time examine the ,buildings belonging to the ,institution1 and report upon the state of the same1 suggesting to the ,committee what alterations1 improvements1 or repairs1 may be necessary4 ,he shall superintend all the alterations and repairs1 and examine the estimates and charges for the same1 and report whether the works be properly done1 and whether the costs be reasonable4 ,,rule ,,xvii4 ,there shall be two ,auditors appointed at every ,annual ,general ,meeting1 who shall audit the ,accounts of the ,institution1 and report thereon to the ,committee4--,the ,auditors shall not be ,members of the ,committee4 ,,section ,v4 ,of the ,masters4 ,,rule ,i4 ,there shall be the following ,masters--,a ,head ,master1 a ,second ,master1 an ,assistant ,master1 a ,french ,master1 and a ,drawing ,master4 ,,rule ,,ii4 ,the ,masters shall be elected as often as occasion may require1 by the ,committee1 by ballot4 ,,rule ,,iii4 ,the ,head and ,second ,masters shall be ,graduates of the ,university of ,oxford1 or of ,cambridge4 ,,rule ,,iv4 ,the ,committee shall have the assistance of the ,head ,master in examining the competence of the ,assistant ,master4 ,,rule ,v4 ,none of the ,masters shall be subject to removal from their respective ,offices1 except on account of non-adherence to the ,rules of the ,institution1 inability1 incapacity1 negligence1 immoral conduct1 or other sufficient cause2 their removal to be determined upon by the ,committee1 at a ,special ,meeting to be convened for that purpose4 ,three ,calendar ,months' notice1 in writing1 shall be given by the ,secretary to any ,master intended to be removed1 except for any flagrant misconduct1 or gross immorality2 in which cases the dismissal shall be immediate4 ,any ,master intending to resign his ,office1 shall give three ,calendar ,months' notice1 in writing1 of such his intention to the ,secretary4 ,,rule ,,vi4 ,the internal regulation of the ,school shall be under the management of the ,head ,master1 who shall carry into effect the system of education specified in these ,rules1 subject to the control of the ,committee4 ,,rule ,,vii4 ,the ,head ,master shall keep a ,register of the ,scholars1 in such form as the ,committee shall determine4 ,,rule ,,viii4 ,the ,head ,master shall also keep a ,register of the progress made by the ,pupils in the course of their studies2 which ,register shall be open to the inspection of the ,visitors1 and be produced to the ,committee at their periodical ,meetings4 ,,rule ,,ix4 ,the ,head ,master shall report to the ,committee what ,books1 ,mathematical ,instruments1 ,stationery1 c4 may from time to time be wanted for the purposes of the ,institution4 ,he shall also furnish the ,committee1 quarterly1 with an account of such ,books and ,instruments lost1 or wilfully destroyed1 as1 in his opinion1 ought to be charged to the ,pupils by whom they shall have been so lost1 or destroyed4 ,,rule ,x4 ,the ,head ,master may suspend any of the other ,masters1 except the ,second1 in the event of any flagrant misconduct2 but he shall forthwith give notice of such suspension to the ,secretary1 in order that it may be submitted immediately to the decision of the ,committee4 ,,rule ,,xi4 ,the ,french ,master shall attend the ,school1 on such days1 and for such period in each day1 as the ,head ,master may fix1 with the approval of the ,committee4 ,,rule ,,xii4 ,the ,drawing ,master shall attend the ,school under the same regulation excepted4 ,,rule ,,xvi4 ,none of the ,masters shall be allowed to perform any duty1 or undertake any occupation1 or employment1 which shall in any way interfere with their attendance and duties in the ,pupils shall be admitted as prescribed by ,rule ,,viii1 ,section ,i42 but no ,pupil shall be received into the ,school1 until he shall have acquired some knowledge of ,reading and ,writing1 and of the two first ,rules of ,arithmetic4 ,,rule ,,ii4 ,an efficient ,system of ,education shall be adopted2 embracing the ,latin1 ,greek1 ,french1 and ,english ,languages and ,literature2 ,composition2 ,elocution2 the ,mathematics2 and ,drawing2 and ,lectures on subjects connected with the ,sciences and ,arts1 shall be occasionally delivered by the ,masters and others to all the ,pupils1 under the sanction of the ,committee1 which the ,proprietors1 and ,parents of ,nominees1 shall be at liberty to attend4 ,,rule ,,iii4 ,the ,madras ,system of ,education1 as practised at ,charter ,house ,school1 shall be adopted1 as far as it may be found available4 ,,rule ,,iv4 ,a portion of the ,scriptures and ,prayer shall be read at the commencement of the ,morning1 and the termination of the ,afternoon1 ,school each ,day4 ,,rule ,v4 ,a ,public ,examination of the ,pupils shall take place in the week previous to the ,summer ,vacation2 the mode of such ,examination to be under the direction of the ,committee4 ,,rule ,,vi4 ,eight days ,holidays are to be allowed at ,christmas1 commencing on ,christmas ,eve1 and ending on ,new ,year's ,day2 and ,five ,weeks in the ,summer1 commencing on the ,monday nearest the ,twentieth of ,july4--,the ,holidays at ,easter are to commence on ,good ,friday1 and end on ,easter ,monday1 both inclusive4--,a half ,holiday is to be allowed on ,wednesday and ,saturday in each week4 ,,rule ,,vii4 ,the ,pupils shall punctually return to the ,school on the day succeeding the conclusion of the ,holidays1 unless prevented by sickness1 7to be certified in writing17 or by any family calamity1 under the penalty of ,ten ,shillings4 ,,rule ,,viii4 ,in the event of any flagrant misconduct on the part of any ,scholar1 it shall be competent for the ,head ,master immediately to suspend him2 and he shall report such suspension1 with the cause thereof1 to the ,visitors1 for the information of the ,committee1 who shall decide thereon1 and may1 if they see fit1 confirm such suspension of the offending ,pupil2 but an appeal shall lie from the ,proprietor on whose ,share the ,scholar was admitted to the ,school1 to a ,general ,meeting of ,proprietors to be convened for that purpose4 ,,section ,,vii4 ,of the ,property and ,funds of the ,institution4 ,,rule ,i4 ,the ,land1 and the ,building thereon1 and all other ,property of the ,institution1 real and personal1 shall be vested in ,twelve ,trustees1 to be elected from among the ,proprietors1 and shall be held by the said ,trustees for the purposes of the ,institution4 ,they shall execute a ,deed1 declaring the purposes of such ,trust2 and when they shall be reduced to ,three in number1 the ,proprietors1 at a ,general ,meeting1 convened for that purpose1 shall fill up the number to ,twelve2 and thereupon a proper ,deed or ,deeds shall be executed1 for vesting the ,property of the ,institution in the surviving and new ,trustees1 and declaring the ,trusts thereof2 and so1 from time to time1 as often as may be necessary1 for perpetuating the ,trusts4 ,,rule ,,ii4 ,every transfer or bequest of a ,share1 and also the title of every ,assignee1 ,legatee1 or ,legal ,representative1 shall be entered in the ,register of the ,institution2 of which entry a ,certificate shall be given by the ,secretary1 and for which ,certificate ,one ,pound1 over and above the ,stamp ,duty1 shall be paid to the ,treasurers1 to be carried to the general ,fund of the ,institution4 ,,rule ,,iii4 ,every ,member of the ,institution shall be furnished with one ,copy of the ,rules4 99 99 99 99 99 ,declaration
