successfully demonstrated in the city of ,los ,angeles1 ,california1 a mechanical device by which he transformed musical vibrations into 8electrical0 waves4 ,these when conveyed to the human organism were found to be harmonizing1 vitalizing1 and curative1 in many nervous and functional disorders4 ,further study and research along these lines convinced him that all vibration1 or motion1 or activity is electrical4 ,that all phenomena are electrical phenomena4 ,in fact1 that there is but one substance in the universe1 and that is--,electricity4 ,without any attempt to enter the realm of metaphysics1 the writer desires to state that he uses the term ,life in its absolute or universal sense1 and not in the conditioned or limited sense in which it is ordinarily and loosely used4 ,he distinguishes between ,life--with its eternal1 inherent unceasing impulse and energy--and the resultant of that impulse and energy2 whether that resultant be a molecule of hydrogen or what is called consciousness1 intelligence1 manifesting through an organism called man4 ,this ,life is not mind1 nor its product matter4 ,it is ,substance--and that substance the writer calls electricity4 ,it is eternal4 ,it is the totality of what is1 or ,be-ing4 ,it has a dual impulse or tendency1 viz4 7the positive and negative7--attraction and repulsion of its infinite integral constituent particles or ,,electrons4 ,this attraction and repulsion1 this breaking and closing of the circuit1 this vibration or motion--always in a straight line or a circle--this infinite eternal polarity1 being continuous creation or evolution1 and destruction or devolution4 ,it has not been possible in the limited space devoted to this book to attempt a discussion and proof of the statements made herein4 ,while the statements made are scientific and rational the writer could not do more than point out through them the direction in which the truth is to be sought and found4 ,the reader will find many thoughts suggested along the line of the wireless telegraph and telephone1 musical vibrations1 thought vibrations1 telepathy1 clairvoyance1 8,spiritualistic phenomena10 death1 post-mortem consciousness or 8,conscious immortality10 etc4 ,we are living in an age of scientific investigation and inquiry4 ,the human mind is awakening to the necessity of doing its own thinking instead of being bound by the many dogmas of religious systems4 ,laden with ability to annihilate superstition1 and forever destroy that curse of humanity--,fear--in all who will carefully and with an open mind read them1 these pages are set adrift4 ,,henry ,,fleetwood1 ,los ,angeles1 ,california4 ,september1 #aijh4 ,,chapter ,i ,life ,cosmic ,evolution4 ,life ,germs--,how ,produced4 8,the ,word0--,evolution of4 ,thought makes thousands1 perhaps millions1 think40--,byron4 ,electricity is the one1 eternal1 unchangeable1 indestructible1 universal substance4 ,the universe is made up of innumerable 8corpuscles10 from whose manifold combinations1 ruled by unalterable affinities1 has been evolved our solar system4 ,our earth after the cooling process1 became through the light and radiant energy of the sun1 the theater of the evolution of the various forms of life4 ,the eternal1 inherent1 restless energy that had formed and launched into existence this solar system continued its work to evolve conscious life on this earth4 ,monad1 atom1 protoplasm1 molecule and cell all being produced by this electric energy we call life4 ,this universal substance is constituted of electrons--infinitesimally smaller than atomic dust--each electron having the potentiality of the whole1 with its positive and negative impulse4 ,it is well known that each molecule is a separate and distinct organism1 formed by this same electric impulse4 ,the active force in evolution being the electric energy--attraction and repulsion--its movements can be easily followed by noting the similarity of its formation1 namely1 circular or spherical4 ,the tendency of this electric energy is always to form a complete circuit--and must do so in order to evolve and carry on its work of evolution2 all creation being the result of the breaking and closing of the circuit4 ,the various forms of life evolved1 are subject to this same restless impulse--positive and negative--which continues the work of creation or evolution4 ,as what is called 8life0 is the result of the closing of the circuit1 so what is called 8death0 is the result of the breaking of the circuit4 ,thus we see that life and death are one and the same process4 ,simply the readjustment1 rearrangement of these infinite electrons by the opening and closing of the electric circuit4 ,the same eternal1 inherent1 restless energy forever at play--creating life1 and creating death--both equally beautiful4 ,this is the continuous evolution of ,darwin and others4 ,there is no rest4 ,there is only eternal continuous vibration4 ,prof4 ,loeb says1 8,the force that makes life possible is primarily the electric charge40 ,dr4 ,samuel ,wallian says1 8,life originates in vibration and consists of an incessant repetition of vibrations40 ,it can with equal truth be said that ,,the ,,force ,,that ,,makes ,,death ,,possible ,,is ,,primarily ,,the ,,electric ,,charge2 ,,and ,,death ,,originates ,,in ,,vibration1 ,,and ,,consists ,,of ,,an ,,incessant ,,repetition ,,of ,,vibrations--or opening and closing of an electric circuit4 ,these are the only ,two ,,immortals--,life and ,death4 ,primitive man having his habitation mainly in the primeval forest1 the shadows cast by the sun became objects of terror to him4 ,the caves with their mysteries begot gnomes and hobgoblins4 ,thus was born that great curse of humanity--,fear4 ,feeling the need of protection from these bogies of his imagination1 he peopled his world with fairies1 etc41 that would help him to overcome the evil of these fancied cave and forest shadow-folk4 ,here we have the origin of good and evil1 rewards and punishments1 out of which has been evolved the various systems of religion4 ,observing the various phenomena of this universal force1 he called it ,god2 made images to express his ideas and worshipped them4 ,man's evolution in the universe of thought has been slow1 handicapped as he has been by superstition1 traditional folk-lore and lack of individual search for truth4 ,but now for the past fifty years there has prevailed a set of thought vibrations--a so-called 8,new ,thought0 wave--that has impelled to a desire for the truth that shall make one free4 ,there is no mystery in nature4 ,she works under the immutable laws of her eternal being--,electricity4 ,when primitive man evolved on this earth he was at first without speech1 his only language being guttural sounds and gestures1 some of which are distinctly discernible in many of the present races of mankind4 ,from these guttural sounds speech was evolved and the 8word0 was born4 8,in the beginning was the word and the word was with ,god and the word was ,god40 ,the brain cells of man--the ego--the beginning or birth of understanding--sent forth vibrations called 8thought0 into the universe2 and man has been adding to their volume during countless ages4 ,as he progressed he learned to write by signs or hieroglyphics1 thus recording his thoughts4 ,by still further evolution he constructed an alphabet and finally a printing press1 so that now thoughts can be easily recorded and preserved4 ,sir ,humphrey ,davy immediately upon recovering from apparent death1 caused by one of his scientific experiments1 exclaimed1 8,i am convinced that thought is all there is in the universe40 ,as all man's thoughts1--the vibrations of his brain cells--are contained in the universe1 there must be reservoirs of thought governed by the law of natural selection4 ,this accounts for what we call genius4 ,for example1 a child is born showing early a genius for music1 which enables it to grow in the art until it becomes famous4 ,what is the explanation8 ,simply that during the period of gestation the mother was environed by musical vibrations1 so attuning the brain cells of the child that communication was established with some great reservoir of musical thought in the universe1 and a genius was evolved4 ,this is the so-called 8,reincarnation40 ,a perfectly natural law of vibration4 ,creation1 we repeat1 is but continuous evolution1 bringing forth by natural selection1--8everything after its kind0--progressing onward year by year1 developing more improved species and greater inventions4 ,evolution is but continuous creation4 ,they are one1 even as life and death are one4 ,lucretius wrote fifty years ,b4 ,c41 8,change is the law of things and is brought about by opposing forces40 ,lucretius did not know that these opposing forces were but the attraction and repulsion1 or positive and negative action of the one universal substance1--,electricity4 ,the inherent eternal impulse 7polarity1 or sex7 of the electrons composing the universal substance from which all things are evolved4 ,many of the great scientific writers1 such as ,kant1 ,darwin1 ,wallace1 ,hume1 etc41 had not seen this great light which the discovery and investigation of certain electrical phenomena has revealed and so could not account for this primal force in the universe1 which they knew existed but could not define4 ,electricity is ,life1 and cosmic evolution is but the law of vibration of its eternal1 universal being4 ,all formations of worlds1 planets1 suns1 stars1 asteroids1 etc41 were rotated into form and position and continue their movements by this same universal law of vibration--the inherent1 eternal impulse and energy of the one only substance--,electricity4 ,millions of ages have been evolved in the cosmos4 ,all are subject to what is called decay or death1 but1 as ,lucretius says1 8,what is will perish1 but only to appear in another form40 ,all formations of nature in the universe are circular or spherical1 thus proving their electric source or origin1 and are but the completion of an electric circuit4 ,every stone1 grain of sand and drop of water is rotated and rounded by this same electric vibratory impulse4 ,what is true of our solar system1 we may by deduction conclude is true of other systems1 which may have gone through evolution and devolution many times in the countless aeons of the so called 8past40 ,combustion1 radiant energy1 what are these but modes of motion8 ,a living1 breathing1 thinking organism called man1 or an expiring puppy on the sidewalk1 are but different modes of vibration of this one universal substance4 ,from worlds to atoms1 from atoms to monads1 from monads to motion1--and we find the universe held in a solution of omnipotent1 electric energy1 just as salt is held in solution in the ocean4 ,well may we repeat the modern paraphrase-- ,praise law from whom all blessings flow1 ,praise protoplasm here below1 ,praise matter1 evolution tossed1 ,praise force1 the only ,holy ,ghost4 ,,chapter ,,ii ,electricity and ,life ,proof ,that ,electricity ,is ,life4 ,recent ,discoveries in the ,wireless ,telegraph and ,telephone4 ,their ,effect on the ,thought of the ,race4 ,other ,possibilities of ,electricity4 ,our little lives are kept in equipose1 ,by opposite attractions and desires4--,longfellow4 ,recent discoveries in what is called electrical science1 demonstrating the wide range of application of electric vibrations and suggesting almost unlimited possibilities as to its future adaptation to the purposes of mankind1 indicate that man has at last harnessed the primary force or energy of the universe to become his willing servant4 ,with the discovery of the wireless telegraph1 and wireless telephone--by means of which conversation has been carried on at a distance of four hundred miles--the scientific nature and possibilities of telepathy is understood4 ,the principle is the same4 ,in the wireless telephone by means of two instruments attuned to the same rate of vibration two persons widely separated are enabled to hear each other's words4 ,in telepathy two persons whose brain cells are attuned to the same rate of vibration are enabled to sense each others thoughts1 at any distance4 ,this is the explanation of impressions of impending disaster and death4 ,the so-called psychic forces are perfectly natural and there is nothing supernatural in the universe4 ,a knowledge of the laws of electrical vibration is the key that will unlock all the secrets of the universe to man4 ,all motion1--electrical vibration--is the real ,book of ,life1 opened ever to the true student of science4 ,burbank by the study of this book of nature has discovered the law of various polarities or affinities 7natural selection7 of vegetables1 fruits and flowers and has caused them to produce new varieties1 improving the species4 ,what is called intelligent purpose is said to be manifested by man in this ability to direct and assist what is called nature to bring about different and 8better0 787 conditions4 ,left to herself nature produces chaotic conditions2 weeds1 brambles1 briars and trees crowding themselves into various fantastic shapes4 ,lack of intelligent ,,purpose is shown in all this and only the 8intelligent purpose0 displayed by man produces order out of chaos4 ,where then is the intelligent purpose of the universe8 ,certain vibrations in the universe cause floods1 tornadoes1 cyclones1 earthquakes1 etc4 ,these are simply results of natural laws of electric energy which in sport1 as it were1 like a child with his blocks1 builds and pulls down1 builds and pulls down1 8creates and destroys0 ad infinitum4 ,attraction and repulsion1 positive and negative electric action--vibration--generates1 sustains and destroys all the manifold forms1 organic and inorganic1 of what is called life and death4 ,there is no death4 ,death is but a name given to one of the many forms manifested by life4 ,a knowledge of the dual nature of electrical impulse is the true and only 8secret0 of life and death4 ,in the organic form or entity called man there has been evolved an organ called the brain2 an arrangement of cells whose vibratory action enables them to receive and give off vibrations called thought--intelligence4 ,the universe transmits these vibrations through the entity attuned to receive them4 ,or1 to speak poetically1 we say1 the universe 8voices its intelligence through man40 ,and man voices his intelligence through the universe4 ,man thus becomes a ,lord--a ,god--and has dominion4 ,if we accept electricity as the only substance and vibration as the vital force and origin of all existence1 it is impossible to imagine what may yet be revealed to us respecting the structure of the universe4 ,if electricity is all there is1 then thought must be electrical4 ,the vibrations being received by the brain cells1 are conveyed throughout the body4 ,light vibrations strike upon the eye and enter the brain and we see by the brain4 ,sound waves enter the brain by the ear and we hear by the brain4 ,various vibrations received by the brain are transmitted through the nerves to the various organs of the body4 ,they respond to these vibrations and harmony1 health or disease1 results4 ,if the brain is attuned to receive healthful vibrations1 the body will surely respond and harmony or health obtain4 ,this is the secret of mental healing in all its forms that is being practiced in these states today1 whether it be ,mental ,science1 ,christian ,science1 ,new ,thought1 ,divine ,healing1 ,suggestive ,therapeutics1 or whatever2 and reduces every one of these various systems of healing to a simple natural law of vibration4 ,these healthful vibrations are as free to all as the air they breathe and cannot be cornered by any set of so-called 8healers0 in the world4 ,the result of so-called evil or malefic vibrations we see every day in our hospitals1 asylums1 jails1 police courts1 etc4 ,the reading of certain books and daily newspapers attunes the brain to receive a certain kind of vibration and the results usually lead to the reform school and ,state prison4 ,what are called evil thought vibrations are as abounding in the universe as good thought vibrations1 and if the brain is attuned to receive them1 the resulting inharmonious conditions are sure to obtain4 ,colors are the result of electric vibration4 ,sir ,william ,crookes and ,gessler demonstrated this by their invention of vacuum tubes4 ,by attaching one of these tubes to one of the poles of a static electric machine1 or high frequency coil1 with a low potency1 a yellow light is produced4 ,the potency being increased red appears4 ,by still further increasing the potency to about twelve million vibrations per second1 purple or violet rays are generated4 ,then comes the ,roentgen or ,x-ray--a brilliant1 greenish1 light1 which renders opaque bodies transparent4 ,thus science in electrical discovery is rapidly revealing to us the secrets of the universe4 ,all vibrations are co-related4 ,for instance1 a man has a burst of violent passion--a high rate of brain cell vibration--and we say he 8sees red40 ,this is true and he is almost sure to commit murder and will if the rate of vibration be kept up in his brain cells4 ,and unless you can 8switch the current0--lower the vibration--he will be plunged into a sea of color or intense vibration which his brain is unable to assimilate and we have what we term insanity4 ,the writer firmly believes that ,musical ,vibrations which are transformed into electrical waves and transmitted to the patient1 will ultimately be found to be the 8switch0 that shall change the potency of these vibrations in the insane1 and restore many a hopeless entity to normal brain conditions4 ,as another illustration of the power of thought vibrations take those that went forth when ,garrison1 ,phillips1 ,sumner and others voiced the abolition of slavery in this country1 which culminated in the greatest war of modern times and developed a manhood and self-sacrifice seldom if ever given to the world4 ,this is ,immortality4 ,these events belong to no one country1 but to the world and are the heritage of humanity1 and but one step in the evolution of the race toward the goal of perfect liberty1 which is the knowledge of truth and love1 and the real brotherhood of man4 ,,chapter ,,iii ,love and ,music ,their ,relation to ,life4 ,their ,influence in the ,work of ,evolution4 ,the ,power of ,love4 ,the ,power of ,music4 ,all ,emotions ,produced by and ,subject to ,these ,two ,forces4 ,love and music had their birth and growth simultaneously1 and have continued their journey side by side4 ,primeval man through passion or the procreative tendency1 surrounded himself with offspring4 ,through the appeal made by the helplessness of his children paternal love was evolved4 ,from this was evolved love of family1 tribe1 clan1 and country4 ,in all this music moved side by side with love4 ,the mother before language was born crooned her lullaby to her baby1 and the father imitating the birds pursed his lips and made similar sounds4 ,later he used hollow reeds and fashioned pipes or flutes4 ,thus music was born1 becoming a universal language1 and has been involved throughout all the ages4 ,music and love are inseparable1 and their influence upon mankind is unfathomable4 ,we read a love story1 or hear a love song1 and each brings a thrill of emotion or vibration that stimulates1 and brings to the body that harmony1 the perfection of which is fullness of life--health4 ,the birds sing their love songs to their mates and these vibrations fill the woods with music4 ,the humming bird with continuous accompanying melody gathers the honey from the flowers to feed its young4 ,all music is life and life is love4 ,the youth is transformed into a man1 the maiden into a woman1 by love4 ,and this is a new birth or regeneration4 ,emerson says1 8,the passion remakes the world for the youth4 ,it makes all things alive and significant4 ,nature grows conscious4 ,every bird on the bough of the tree sings now to his heart and soul4 ,the trees of the forest1 the waving grass and the peeping flowers have grown intelligent40 ,all nature breathes love1 which is expressed in self-abnegation1 dying that other species may live4 ,prof4 ,darwin at a meeting of a ,scientific ,society in ,dublin made this statement1 8,all vegetation sees1 hears1 breathes and feels40 ,witness the action of the sensitive and carnivorous plants4 ,we have said all organic and inorganic existence is subject to and lives by the same vibratory energy of the one substance--,electricity4 ,its vibrations produce 8the exquisite tint of the rose1 the velvet of the lily and the ethereal daintiness of the orchid4 ,each is but some trifling variation in the timbre1 the tempo or the pitch of vibration that produces it40 ,the breathing of zephyrs through the trees echoes the universal language of music in which all nature voices its thought4 ,the purling of the brooks1 are but other notes by which nature sings her song of love4 8,all one's life is music if one touches the notes rightly and in tune40 ,musical vibrations are full of healing power4 ,their effect upon mind and body soothing and vitalizing beyond description1 and producing every emotion of which we are capable4 ,it is the key that will unlock for us the deep secrets of the universe4 ,its universal language enables the composer to reveal his thoughts to an audience1 by notes1 tones1 rhythms1 cadences1 which are but different rates of vibration4 ,as he describes a storm1 the wind wails through the trees1 the branches sway1 the rain patters on the leaves4 ,then the rush of the storm1 the pealing thunder1 the flash of lightnings1 the rush and downpour of angry waters4 ,then comes the lull1 the dying away1 the burst of sunlight1 the birds singing their songs of joy4 ,we see and hear it all4 ,it is a painting4 ,it is a symphony4 ,it is vibration4 ,carlisle says1 8,all deep things are songs2 see deep enough and you see music4 ,the heart of nature breathes everywhere music if you can only reach it40 ,this love force or vibration1 great in volume1 is like a great white light whose radiant energy absorbs and burns up all its opponents1 such as hatred1 dislike1 malice1 uncharitableness1 etc41 just as the sun in the solar system absorbs all cosmic matter 7vibrations7 that comes within its radius4 ,this cosmic matter furnishing the combustion necessary to continue the radiant energy1 which for us means continued existence4 ,the maiden in her fresh and glorious beauty1 with rosebud tinted cheeks1 the aureole of the sun crowning her hair1 her form swaying with graceful mien1 bursts like an apparition on the youth1 and the refulgence of her beauty dazzles him like the sunlight and blinds him to all else4 ,while these intense love vibrations continue he has no eyes1 no ears for aught save her4 ,he exalts her in poem and in song4 ,he 8protests0 like ,romeo and she like ,juliet 8doubts0 and 8doubts10 these very doubts calling forth more prolerlations4 ,the vibrations called love produce a condition1 an emotion1 akin to hysteria4 ,indeed the brain once attuned to its vibration becomes obsessed and all sorts of vagaries are evolved amounting to madness or insanity4 ,the brain being attuned by some dominant thought immediately assumes telepathic conditions4 ,it becomes as we say enrapport with this or that class of thought deposited in the reservoirs of the universe4 ,music is the language of love4 ,listening to some forgotten note or song1 what is called memory is established1 and thoughts are awakened we deemed were long dead4 ,they speak to us in no uncertain or unfamiliar tones1 and many a lover's quarrel of long standing has been healed by this sacrament of music4 ,the universe voices this immortal power4 ,the morning stars sing together1 the brooks ripple their course1 the skylark sings his glad carol as he rises in the air to greet the morning sun1 and all light and color vibrate their praises in the glorious landscapes they are ever painting on the land4 ,the sea with its ceaseless vibration sings a lullaby to the tired brain1 or in its stormy moods incites man to deeds of daring4 ,all nature is music and all music is the language of the universe1 and 8the world is full of beauty if the heart is full of love40 ,,chapter ,,iv ,immortality ,is ,there ,conscious ,immortality8 ,what is ,immortality8 ,why ,we ,hope for ,consciousness in a ,future ,life4 ,how the ,ancients ,regarded a ,future ,life4 ,virtue alone builds pyramids4 ,her monuments shall last when ,egypt's fall4--,young4 ,in order that there should be what is spoken of as conscious immortality--or post-mortem consciousness--there must be an entity or organism to manifest it4 ,consciousness is the resultant of the vibratory movements of certain groupings of electrons called brain cells1 acted on by certain other outside vibrations4 ,this resultant called consciousness is the 8unconscious cerebration0 of the scientists4 ,there can no more be consciousness without brain cells than there can be the music of a violin without the violin4 ,there must be the entity or personality with the brain to receive1 preserve1 and transmit the vibrations that are contained in the reservoir of thought in the universe4 ,all thoughts1 words and deeds are preserved and exist as rates of vibration in the universe1 and are open to those attuned to receive them4 ,we spoke in a former chapter of the illustration of the wireless telegraph and telephone4 ,the coherer1 receiver and transmitter being attuned1 communication is established4 ,this is another illustration of intelligent ,,purpose in the universe1 and man is the mouthpiece of it4 ,when it is seen that every thought or word belongs to its distinctive wave and must find a brain attuned to the same rate of vibration to receive and to voice it1 the irrationality of endowing an intangible1 substanceless1 non-existing1 so-called 8spirit0 with consciousness must be apparent to anyone4 ,this is immortality1 which correlates every thought and word of man1 holding them in universal phonographic records1 as it were1 forming a vast reservoir from which continuously flows by electrical energy all so-called intelligent and other vibrations1 we receiving those to which we are attuned4 ,this is a thought that might well engage our most serious attention1 involving as it does a responsibility of no little magnitude4 ,we may well pause to inquire of ourselves what are we depositing in those archives of thought for redistribution to ourselves1 and to our posterity1 to say nothing of mankind in general4 ,certain forms of vibration1 such as hatred1 malice1 envy1 jealousy and especially fear1 are productive of disease1 poverty1 old age and death--all those inharmonious vibrations which comprise the sum of all the troubles and sorrows of mankind4 ,the most productive of these inharmonious conditions known as sickness1 poverty1 old age and death1 is ,,fear4 ,veneration and worship of all kinds is a form of fear and opens the body to every ill4 ,man through religious teaching and self-made creeds has evolved the idea of rewards and punishments for the 8good0 and 8bad0 deeds of this life1 and as there must be a conscious entity to punish and reward and a place in which to administer the same1 a so-called 8future life0 becomes a necessity4 ,what rational ground for all this8 ,none whatever4 ,the cessation of consciousness in what is called death1 is an inevitable step in the inauguration and evolution of existence4 ,as we have stated heretofore life and death are one and the same4 ,the same unit of electric energy with two impulses--life and death4 ,continuous vibration4 ,every movement being the evolution of some new form demonstrating life's continuity and electrical nature4 ,thales said 7#fjj ,b4 ,c471 8,all around is change4 ,everything always becoming something else4 ,all in motion like streams40 ,he recognized the law of evolution or continuous vibration4 ,theophrastes 7#cga ,b4 ,c47 says1 8,there is one eternal1 indestructible substance out of which everything arises and into which everything again returns40 ,that 8eternal1 indestructible substance0 is now known to be electricity1 and the inherent1 unceasing energy of its infinite particles or electrons--now known to be electrical1 polar1 sexual--the explanation of all phenomena embraced under the terms--life and death4 ,life and ,immortality are synonymous4 ,the present is eternity4 ,the now is all there is4 ,all conscious or unconscious thought vibration is immortal1 and is recorded in the cylindrical records of the universe1 and those having the attunement to those records are in possession of the so-called secrets of the universe2 which are nothing more than the workings of nature's inevitable laws revealed and unfolded to us through an understanding of this great universal substance--,electricity4 ,the one only substance in the universe4 ,this substance1 this sea of electrons1 of which we are1 and in which we live and move and have our being1 is in constant motion even as the great body of water on our globe4 8,the waters of the globe are all one sea and truly seen their tide is one40 ,so in this electrical ocean there is ebb and flow1 ebb and flow1 of etheric and atmospheric conditions4 ,the movement of these tides and waves is always cyclical1 proving their electrical nature4 ,this is seen in the globule of water1 in the globe tides1 in the tornadoes1 cyclone1 etc4 ,all so-called 8destructive conditions0 are due to the breaking of the circuit and the violent determined effort to close it again1 and are in themselves constructive processes4 ,when the circuit is broken the destructive force is let loose and continues its havoc until this violently vibrating mass of electrons has re-formed into other conditions in the great electrical ocean4 ,the suns1 worlds1 planets1 stars are but varied manifestations of this vibratory electrical force which through millions of ages has evolved and rotated them into existence1 its limitless energy forever continuing the work of creation or evolution4 ,these worlds1 suns1 planets being prepared to generate and maintain the various forms of life1 which by analogy must be the same on other planets as on ours4 ,beginning with the simplest type of organism1 the work of evolution and progress is carried on until the present race of mankind with its intelligence and will is produced4 ,and there are much higher types in the universe than what is called human4 ,all this is produced by the action of the vibratory electrical force which constitutes life--which ,,is ,,life4 ,you may call it ,god if it pleases you4 ,consciousness1 intelligence1 is but the resultant of varying rates of vibration of different tempos4 ,the action of the vibratory force is seen in the plants and flowers where the pruning and concentration of vibration into one stalk improves the fruit or flower4 ,in the ,american ,beauty rose many branches and buds are sacrificed to bring one flower to the fullest perfection4 ,for ages this same pruning process has been applied to the organism known as man1 in order to evolve the intelligence that has produced our men of genius and power1 to control in turn the very forces that called them into existence4 ,by self-control man has been enabled to direct these vibrations1 holding in check his varied passions which otherwise would injure him and hasten his dissolution4 ,the vibrations known as the ether or sound can produce every emotion we are capable of displaying4 ,we in turn control these same vibrations and produce music4 ,ruskin says1 8,all one's life is music if one touches the note rightly and in tune40 8,light1 heat1 force1 motion1 sound1 sight1 taste1 color1 thought1 emotion all these are but different rates of vibration40 ,color vibrations denote the passions4 ,yellow the lymphatic1 red the positive and aggressive1 blue the nervous temperament4 ,purple or violet are intense vibrations which usually are self-destructive1 overthrowing the reason and producing insanity4 ,these color-vibrations are in turn susceptible to inhibition and control by musical vibrations of a much lower tempo than those of color2 musical vibrations attaining to only thirty-two thousand 7#cb1jjj7 per second at their highest tempo1 while the color vibrations known as violet reach twelve million 7#ab1jjj1jjj7 to the second4 ,is it the ,,sonorosity of musical tones that equalizes the vibrations of color and music8 ,the vibrations of the tones of a violin have been known to heal the most obstinate wounds1 and even surgical operations have been performed under the influence of musical vibrations4 ,so potent is this force that the musical step of the military march has to be broken when crossing a bridge lest it collapse4 ,the walls of ,jericho are said to have collapsed under the vibrations produced by blowing upon rams' horns in the hands of the ,israelites4 ,windows have been broken by the vibratory tones of an organ4 ,the varying forms of so-called matter are but varying rates of vibration1 ready to be acted upon and dissolved by other rates4 ,the same force that tears down builds up4 ,death is only another rate of vibration set up by this ,eternal ,life4 ,post-mortem consciousness is unscientific and ridiculous4 ,organic life gives off electrons1 that unite and form a new organism1 and the resulting embryo is of like organism1 perpetuating its kind from generation to generation4 ,as this is continuous and never ceasing1 it must be what is meant by ,immortality4 ,,chapter ,v ,the ,sun ,its ,relation to ,planetary ,life4 ,what is ,radiant ,energy8 ,why the ,ancients ,worshipped the ,sun4 ,the ,parsees the ,present ,sun ,worshippers4 ,it is supposed to be a figure of speech1 a mere bit of symbolism to call the sun masculine and the earth feminine4 ,to call the earth a woman4 ,to state that woman was made from man1 etc4 ,but when it is understood that sex is nothing but polarity1 that male and female1 masculine and feminine and positive and negative are synonymous terms1 we begin to understand the truly scientific nature of these expressions4 ,they are purely electrical terms4 ,this sex or polarity is universal4 ,the ,macrocosm and the ,microcosm are the same4 ,the ,universe is not a ,di-verse4 ,individuality is not di-viduality4 ,every organism in the universe is thoroughly bi-polar or bi-sexual1 manifesting the eternal nature of its ultimate component electrons4 ,the writer once saw hundreds of children under a common impulse come swarming1 dancing1 from every quarter of a great city to a common meeting place4 ,as they rushed together en masse their individual movements continued until out of the marching and counter-marching1 the shifting1 changing1 rearranging1 re-adjusting there was evolved before his eyes the flag of this nation with its glorious stripes and stars composed of human boys and girls4 ,we have stated that ether1 air1 fire1 water1 earth1 are but masses of infinitesimally small particles--called electrons--of the one primeval1 universal substance1 living their life of attraction and repulsion1 embrace and separation1 forever whirling in their eternal 8,maypole dance40 ,rushing together in a mad embrace1 then darting away to seek some other partner4 ,weaving in and out1 in and out1 around about1 back and forth1 to and fro4 ,this dance is called ,creation--,evolution4 ,it is an eternal ,brocken--an eternal ,nachtspiel4 ,the sun is but one great mass of these whirling1 vibrating1 dancing electrons4 ,as varying numbers of these rush off and regroup themselves1 other planets are 8born0 or evolved4 ,all depend upon the larger or parent mass from which they parted4 ,our earth is but one of these children of the sun4 ,the earth is a woman1 a beautiful woman1 forever young1 forever fair4 ,the sun is her father4 ,the sun is the primary source of the variety of forms of life on this earth4 ,while the electrical energy1 or positive and negative impulse of the electrons of atomic matter1 constitute the eternal force or energy called ,life1 only by the radiant energy of the sun in our system1 could we have the planets--of which our earth is one--and the varied forms of activity evolved and maintained thereon4 ,our earth could no more produce these higher forms of activity called mineral1 vegetable1 animal1 man1--all biological activities--without the sun1 than the female could produce offspring without the male4 ,the sun is positive1 the earth negative4 ,the sun's vibrations reach our earth in about eight minutes and acting upon its atmosphere1 it finds a resistance or polarity out of which is evolved light1 heat and moisture4 ,every molecule of our body is rotated into form and continues its activities by the radiant energy of the sun4 ,here again we see there can be no death4 ,every atom in the universe is living1 pulsating1 vibrating electric energy4 ,the sun is like a great dynamo1 rotating every planetary body into form and position1 and through its continued radio-activity carrying on the further processes of creation called the evolution of sentient life4 ,it is often asked1 8,are other worlds inhabited by sentient beings80 ,there can be no reason for supposing otherwise4 ,given atmospheres1 and the radiant energy of the sun or suns1 must by analogy evolve like results on other planets4 ,we do not wonder the ancients worshipped the sun4 ,they regarded it as the source or author of their being--their ,creator4 ,the theologian calls his creator ,god4 ,but the ,hebrew word for ,god is ,elohim--creative forces4 ,john says1 8,the word was ,god40 ,the psalmist says1 8,day unto day uttereth speech40 ,what is speech but vibration8 ,the sun is the source of all vibration in the solar system4 ,it has created this earth and all its inhabitants4 ,all forms of life on this planet1 all activities1 are but the radiant energy of the sun4 ,,chapter ,,vi ,fear ,the ,great ,curse of ,humanity4 ,the ,only ,devil4 ,its ,insidious ,claims4 ,its ,effect on ,life4 8,the thing that ,i feared hath come upon me40--,job4 ,through fear the human race has been converted into cowards and slaves4 ,in a former chapter we have suggested the origin or birth of this demon with its subsequent evolution of the ideas of good and evil1 rewards and punishments1 religions1 right and wrong1 etc4--,side by side with the above was the evolution of the conscience1 which in turn became the greatest producer of fear known to the human race4 ,the conscience1 that ,shakespeare says 8doth make cowards of us all40 ,a modern teacher says 8,conscience is the jaw of morality4 ,it has spread far outside the ,christian or any other religion and become an essential factor of modern civilization4 ,conscience is the most depressing element in human existence4 ,its entire business is to reduce spirit4 ,every inch of its energy is laid out against health4 ,it taxes vitality4 ,it claws with shame4 ,it bites with disgrace4 ,it murders with morbidness1 both body and mind4 ,it manufactures right and wrong4 ,it discharges poison or stimulant into the blood and nerves4 ''' ,it has scared the race into trembling lest it leave them4 ,it has made cowards of us all40 ,in man's effort to escape the thralldom of these twin curses1--fear and conscience--which so often drives humanity to self-destruction or loss of reason1 and feeling his helplessness against these demons1 he sought a means of propitiating them1 and so constructed a system of religious belief4 ,believing that his ,gods must be placated for his fancied transgressions1 a form of worship was evolved1 with ceremonies involving sacrifice of blood1 gifts of money1 and treasure for building magnificent temples1 churches1 abbeys and monasteries4 ,lavishing billions of dollars upon their architecture and art4 ,all these were efforts to overcome fear1 and appease a conscience1 which was evolved through the influence of the shadow-world and the folk-lore of primitive man upon the progenitors of the race4 ,we have only to vibrate the unused cells of the brain to bring forth primitive savagery4 ,take the action of a mob--let a vibratory wave of passion be set up in the unused cells of the brain and the entity knows no law but primitive force4 ,fear is for the time forgotten in the lust for blood4 ,this is the explanation of the so-called bravery of the soldier in time of battle4 ,although fear dominates him before the clash of arms is reached1 yet the moment he meets his antagonist the primitive lust for blood overcomes his fear and he becomes once more a primeval savage and fights to the death4 ,the rationale of this is1 that environment and mode of thought has put in vibration and attuned certain cells of the brain1 by which he establishes communication with some reservoir of primitive savage vibration in the universe1 and all the wild impulses of primeval instinct rush into and dominate him4 ,the forgotten 8vices0 of our ancestors1 apparently repeated from generation to generation1 mean no more than this1 as we have suggested heretofore2 environment and its engendered mode of thought simply fitting the brain as a receiver for the reception of specific vibrations4 ,we treat as criminals those who should be really treated for disease4 ,we are responsible for the slum conditions in our cities and country which set up the brain attunement that calls forth these vibrations of ancestral vices4 ,this is ,,how the slums breed vice and crime4 ,and it is in this direction we should put forth our efforts to reform the criminal4 ,are we not responsible for our criminals8 ,we most assuredly are4 ,we are responsible for these slum conditions and environments which create and bring into play these specific brain cells and cell vibrations4 ,we say 8,natural born criminals40 ,not always4 ,they are made so by environment4 ,if the money spent in the effort to reform the vicious and criminal was applied to cleansing the slums and changing man's environment1 it would greatly reduce the necessity for jails1 reform schools and asylums4 ,we should enact laws to enable us to begin with the child in the public schools--compulsory if necessary4 ,not only educating1 but seeing that they were properly clothed and housed and fed1 and removed from their vicious surroundings1 parents or guardians4 ,in fact1 we are the real criminals who permit such a thing as a crime producing slum or a 8poor quarter40 ,the state can easily afford to do this in order to do away with the so-called vicious element or criminal class4 ,the present progress of invention in labor-saving devices call for a greater intelligence than the handling of the pick and the shovel1 and this is being evolved2 and this great living vibratory energy or force which created man and evolved his intellect and his will1 man has in turn harnessed for his use1 reducing the necessity for excessive manual labor2 and he will have more time for the arts and sciences4 ,the 8man with the hoe10 will become the man with the electric plow and cultivator1 and instead of hard1 laborious work1 these wonderful electric inventions will eventually reduce all labor to mild recreation and enjoyment4 ,this wonderful electric force has now become a servant and is willing and eager to give its restless energy to man4 ,it is the power that ,tennyson says is 8closer to you than breathing1 nearer than hands and feet40 ,it is your universal father ready to give whatsoever you ask2 but man must study to know this power1 and learn its natural movements in order to come into the full benefit of his rightful heritage of this primal force by which he was evolved into conscious existence4 ,the blight of fear has retarded the human race from coming into its heritage of knowledge concerning this primal substance and force of the universe--,electricity4 ,every effort of science to explain phenomena has been frowned upon and opposed by theology1 which is the child of fear and conscience4 ,man has been kept in swaddling clothes which have prevented his growth to maturity4 ,but thanks to the change of nurses during the recent centuries his clothes have been changed so frequently that he has had an opportunity to grow lusty1 and all the efforts of nurses to keep him in leading-strings today are unavailing4 ,he is outgrowing fear and superstition that has so long strangled science4 ,and science is destroying fear by its revelations of the workings of natural law1 which in the field of electrical discovery is making its most rapid strides4 ,,chapter ,,vii ,death ,its ,relation to ,life4 ,its ,immortality4 ,its loving purpose4 ,its ,relation to ,evolution4 8,to die1 to sleep1--,to sleep6 perchance to dream6 ay there's the rub40--,shakespeare4 ,in preceding chapters ,i have so frequently made the statement that life and death are one and the same1 that it seems almost superfluous to say another word on the subject4 ,but ,i am willing1 even at the risk of seeming pedantic1 to re-state the argument1 which is not only simple and easy of comprehension1 but at the same time both scientific and rational4 ,without desiring to enter upon the realm of metaphysics in this book1 it will be sufficient to say that we use the term ,life in its fullest sense1 and not in the restricted one of consciousness4 ,consciousness itself being but one expression of life4 ,two ,irishmen walking along a road came upon a turtle4 ,it had been decapitated and its head lay some distance away from its body4 8,begorra10 says ,pat1 8he's dead sure enough4 ,his head's cut off40 ,mike picked up a stick and punched the turtle's feet1 who immediately withdrew them inside his shell4 8,no10 says he1 8he's aloive4 ,see him move40 8,you're a fool ,mike10 says ,pat4 8,he's dead ,i tell you4 ,don't you see his head's cut off40 8,he's aloive10 said ,mike1 8you can see him move40 ,the argument became heated1 ,mike insisting that a dead turtle couldn't move1 and ,pat being equally insistent that no turtle with his head cut off could be alive4 ,the matter was about to be referred to the ,irishman's court of last resort1 when a ,dutchman1 passing along1 an armistice was established1 and the matter referred to him for decision4 ,the ,dutchman examined the turtle and discovered it had been killed in a supposedly most effective manner by having its head cut off4 ,mike's test with the stick1 however1 revealed the ability on the part of the turtle for pretty lively activity4 ,he then arose and delivered himself1 8,gentlemen1 dot turtle iss dead all right1--but it don't know it40 ,every area of being1--of the universe1 is eternally alive4 ,it doesn't always ,,know it4 ,we repeat1 there is one--can be but one--,be-ing4 ,this being is not mind1 nor its product matter4 ,ether is only a refined form of matter4 ,mind is adjudged to be a still more refined form of that same matter4 ,but being is ,substance4 ,you may call it ,spirit 7or meaning7 or you may call it ,god4 ,paul called it ,faith1 and said 8by it and of it the worlds were made40 ,we call it ,electricity4 ,every infinitesimal electron of this substance1 as we have stated1 is by-polar or sexual4 ,attracting and repelling1 embracing and separating4 ,this eternal1 inherent or natural law of their being is ,life1--energy1 activity4 ,the resultant of these activities3--the worlds and all that in them is4 ,suppose a great mass of type moved by an inherent1 automatic1 continuous impulse4 ,its integral component letters forever arranging themselves into words1 phrases1 sentences1 etc4 ,for illustration3 ,the letters ,e-,v-,i-,l create the word ,evil4 ,rearrange the same letters and your word ,evil disappears and the word ,l-,i-,v-,e1 ,live1 appears1 or is born1 created1 evolved1 whatever4 ,the energy1 the auto-activity would be one and the same4 ,the disintegration and disappearance of one word1 and the re-adjustment of letters and appearance or creation of another word being equally the resultant of the same letters1 with their same inherent energy and impulse4 ,you might call one part of the process ,creation and another part ,destruction1 but the process is one and continuous4 ,your division is merely hypothetical1 or assumed4 ,what is destroyed8 ,the letters remain1 and their inherent energy or impulse remains--all there was at any time4 ,the integral1 component particles--electrons--of the one only eternal substance1 are the letters comprising the universe4 ,their inherent1 automatic1 eternal energy1 activity--,life--forever spelling out words and sentences1 etc41 that go to make up the ,book of ,life4 ,they arrange themselves as earthquake or pestilence1 famine1 murder1 birth1 disease1 old age1 death1 sunshine1 flowers1 music1 painting1 sculpture1 art1 laughter1 tears1 whatever4 ,what are these terms but names for the varied activities of life8 ,life is all there is4 ,what is called death is equally life4 ,life and death are the two impulses of this one universal force4 ,in certain of its phenomena1 now classified as electrical1 this dual impulse is noted and its action is called 8closing the circuit0 and 8breaking the circuit40 ,this same dual impulse or tendency to embrace and separate--embrace and separate--obtains throughout the entire cosmos1 proving the universality of electrical action4 ,ether1 fire1 air1 water1 earth1 sound1 sensation1 light1 form1 color1 smell1 food1 thought are all known to be modes of motion--rates of vibration4 ,motion of what8 ,rate of vibration of what8--,of the infinite1 integral1 component electrons of the one universal substance4 ,all movement1 or action1 or impulse1 is in a straight line1 and in a circle4 ,the movement in a straight line is the repulsion1 the departure1 the separation4 ,motion in a circle is the attraction1 the return1 the embrace4 ,this is polarity4 ,this is sex4 ,this is ,eternal ,life4 ,this is ,eternal ,death4 ,the ,two ,immortals--or the ,one 7bi-polar1 bi-sexual7 ,immortal4 ,we repeat1 all the substance there is is ,electricity4 ,all the force there is1 therefore1 is electrical4 ,there being but one substance--synthetic being--all force must be electrical4 ,this electrical force is a unit1 but has two impulses1 positive and negative1 attraction and repulsion4 ,all organic forms contains these impulses4 ,for illustration1 take a human entity4 ,the positive we call man1 the negative woman4 ,through the embrace of certain electrons thrown off from the organism of each 7physiologically termed the spermatozoa of the male and the fecundating fluid of the female71 there is established the basis of a future organism for manifesting consciousness and conscious or intelligent activity4 ,a journey is begun4 ,life and death are one and move side by side4 ,their eternal impulse ever active4 ,if what is called harmony or health prevails a vigorous entity is evolved and continued4 ,when the negative tendency or inharmony prevails in this continued struggle for supremacy1 beyond a certain limit1 the organism becomes de-harmonized1 dis-eased1 disabled1 unconscious1 disintegrated4 ,such is this restless energy we call life4 ,the circuit completed1 life and death 7the positive and negative impulse71 move together side by side1 but the tendency to break the circuit--as well as to close the circuit--always obtains4 ,when this occurs there is a re-adjustment of conditions1 out of which new forms of life appear4 ,there can be no antagonism in a unit4 ,there is only a restless energy and impulse to effect changes2 to continue the work of creation or evolution4 ,i want my readers to recognize death as a friend1 and not as so many regard him1 an enemy4 ,he has been and is our constant companion--he is ourself1 and is entitled to fuller and kinder recognition4 ,we scandalize death and caricature and abuse him1 not realizing that we are abusing ourselves4 ,when the tired organism craves only rest1 how readily we should welcome his loving embrace4 ,we cannot love life without loving death1 as they are one and inseparable1 being the unit--which is all there is4 ,what is true of this ceaseless energy or electrical impulse as manifested in organic forms1 is also true in inorganic forms4 ,it generates all vegetables1 and fruits and flowers1 giving them beauty and fragrance and flavor4 ,and we note the same spherical growth in all1 demonstrating the electrical nature of all creation4 ,each cell is rotated into form by this dual impulse4 ,we see the same spherical formation in our forests4 ,the same 8dissolution0 or change takes place in in-organic as in organic life4 ,as the 8speck0 or decayed spot appears on the apple we know the circuit has been broken and the negative tendency becoming the stronger4 ,everywhere1 everything is the circle1 and everywhere the tendency to break that circle or circuit4 ,in the celestial bodies called worlds1 it is the same as in the flower4 ,astronomers agree that there is an ultimate limit to the so-called 8life0 of all planetary bodies4 ,this is true4 ,they have been evolved and devolved for aeons and aeons of time4 ,and the eternal electrical impulse and energy will continue its sport of creation and of destruction throughout the ages yet to be4 ,life is4 ,without beginning--without duration--without ending4 ,such is the meaning of the word ,eternity4 ,,chapter ,,viii ,healing ,mental ,therapeutics or ,healing ,suggestions4 ,christian ,science4 ,mental ,science4 ,faith ,healing1 ,etc4 ,as stated in a former chapter1 every system of so-called mental healing being practiced in these ,states or elsewhere today1 whether it calls itself ,christian ,science1 ,mental ,science1 ,divine ,healing1 ,new ,thought1 ,suggestive ,therapeutics1 or whatever1 is but an effort--with more or less understanding--to utilize the law of electric vibration4 ,mrs4 ,eddy says in 8,science and ,health10 page #bib1 8,electricity is not a vital fluid1 but the least material form of illusive consciousness40 8,electricity is the sharp surplus of materiality which counterfeits the true essence of spiritual truth40 7,so simple1 isn't it87 8,the vapid fury of mortal mind expressed in earthquakes1 wind1 waves1 lightning1 fire and bestial ferocity shows the so-called mind to be self-destructive40 ,there is one synthetical substance1 or truth1 in the universe4 ,you may name it to suit yourself4 ,it will smell just as sweet and act just the same under whatever name you may give it4 ,it has a habit of remaining just what it is yesterday1 today and forever4 ,we call it ,electricity4 ,it is the one mind1 the one substance1 the all and in all4 ,from it is evolved matter in all its various forms4 ,the unit of all force is electrical2 the two impulses of which account for the variety of forms in which it manifests itself4 ,it creates1 preserves1 destroys1 and the various manifestations1 such as earthquake1 floods1 fire1 lightening are but results of these two impulses1 and simply show the absence of any intelligent ,,purpose whatever2 and forces us to see that there can be no such thing as a ,supreme ,being--or supreme intelligence in the universe4 ,that this great omnipresent energy which evolved the meaningless phrases and sentences of ,mrs4 ,eddy's 8,christian ,science0 was acting neither less nor more 8intelligently0 than when it produced a ,beethoven sonata or a ,dante's ,inferno4 ,man seems to have been able to a certain extent to control this force and harness it to his use1 and has materially lessened its destructive tendency by devices such as the lightening-rod and various insulating methods4 ,this is an evidence of intelligent purpose evolved by the vibratory forces of this intelligent substance4 ,man has subjected this force to his usage upon his own organism and the results are astounding4 ,every day some new application is being made4 ,in the field of ,electro-,therapeutics there are so many new developments1 so many wondrous actions on various diseases that the medical profession has to constantly revise its text books1 in order to keep step with this stately energy that is marching on to disclose to those attuned to receive them the great secrets of nature4 ,we have the phonograph1 which deposits the vibrations of the human voice--or any other vibration1 upon the wax cylinder1 which can be preserved almost indefinitely and reproduced at will4 ,from whence came the vibratory impulse or suggestion that invented the phonograph8 ,the within is as the without4 ,the above is as the below4 ,the macrocosm is as the microcosm4 ,is there not in the laboratory of the universe some cyclical or cylindrical formation 7as all electric force--which is all the force there is--is spherical7 that receives1 and preserves1 and reproduces the impressions of all thoughts1 words and deeds1 the brain specifically attuned receiving its specific vibration1 or thought8 ,does it require any great effort to grasp the thought that the electrical 7mental1 thought7 forces or vibrations of the universe can be utilized by us1 to act on the cells of the brain and convey to the body or its various organs through the nerves1 our commands to cast out all inharmonious vibration1 and to refuse to entertain any but harmonious or healthful suggestions4 8,whatsoever a man thinketh1 he is40 ,we repeat1 these so-called healthful vibrations are as free to all as the air they breathe and cannot be corralled by any set of healers4 ,this is not said to discredit any system of healing1 for all are with more or less understanding using the same principle1 and with accordingly varying degrees of success4 ,but it is said to destroy and nullify any claim of exclusive ability4 ,to attune yourself to receive these health-giving or harmony-producing vibrations be alone4 ,assume any comfortable position4 ,let the body relax and the mind become passive4 ,all speech is electrical in its vibratory action4 ,use these words3 ,,be ,,still ,,and ,,know ,,that ,i ,,am ,,god4 ,you may be afraid at first to say these words4 ,this is all the more reason why you should say them4 ,there is nothing so de-harmonizing and de-vitalizing as fear4 ,read the chapter in this book on 8,fear0 again1 and cast it out of you forever4 ,listen--no person ever died saying1 8,be ,still and ,know ,that ,i ,am ,god40 ,the repetition of these words will gradually attune the brain to receive the most health-giving1 vitalizing vibrations in the universe4 ,these1 acting on the cells of the brain are conveyed throughout the entire body by the nerves4 ,the lungs1 the liver1 the stomach--all--will gradually receive these vitalizing1 curative thought vibrations1 and respond to them4 ,sometimes these inharmonious conditions seem persistent and hard to overcome1 and patience and perseverance in repetition may be necessary4 ,but persevere and you cannot fail to win out4 ,it is as certain as that friction will produce fire1 and that heat will dissolve ice4 ,don't whine4 ,don't beg4 ,don't pray4 ,command1 as is your right and privilege1 as a unit of this mighty electric force which is life and health4 ,it's up to you4 ,all the life and health of the universe is yours if you will4 ,permanent1 abiding1 continuous attunement to the infinite ocean of force1 is to continue the integrity of the organism you call your--,self4 ,radium ,note4--,the discovery of radium opened up a field of experiment and investigation that has greatly confirmed in the scientific mind the belief that all action is electrical and that in this direction will be found the solution of all biological problems4 ,it is now thought by scientists that radium is the source of life1 if not the so-called ,,aura of life itself4 ,if this were true1 it would only mean that radium is the fundamental1 basic1 primeval substance of the universe1 which we have termed ,electricity4 ''' ,it is known to be electrical in its action1 giving off light1 heat and radiant energy4 ,it seems to be self-existent1 or self-renewing1 suffering no apparent diminution of its force or energy4 ,one thing is certain1 ,electricity is ,life1 and in the eternally inherent1 automatic impulse of its individual electrons will be found the solution of all phenomena4 ,in radium or radioactivity science may be getting down to 8bed-rock40 ,at any rate1 it is hot on the trail that will lead to the discovery of the truth we are announcing1 viz43 that there is but one substance--,electricity1 whose eternal1 infinite expression is ,life4 ,,chapter ,,ix ,resume and ,conclusion ,in the foregoing chapters ,i have endeavored to explain the great primeval force of life--,electricity4 ,the task is an almost impossible one1 for1 while ,i know that my premises and deductions are correct1 it is more than difficult by words and phrases and sentences to convey to the reader my deep conviction of the correctness of the theory introduced in these pages4 ,some of the greatest scientists in the world are experimenting with this vital force1 and almost daily the newspapers contain accounts of the phenomenal results that are attending their efforts4 ,recently in ,copenhagen a certain journalist had his portrait 8photographed by electricity40 ,copies were distributed throughout the city he was about to visit with instructions that he be arrested on sight4 ,this was effected immediately upon his arrival there4 ,an important recent discovery is an electric lamp which can dissipate fog4 ,it produces a dear1 greenish1 penetrating light like moonlight4 ,it gives a great illuminating power without heat something like the ,x-ray4 ,recently1 aerograms were received in ,honolulu and ,san ,francisco from ,japan1 proving that the ethereal electrons are sure conductors throughout the cosmos4 ,entering1 as this untiring energy does1 into our every day life1 it is not difficult for us to see that--,life is--and that ,electricity is the only substance1 out of whose revelations we are growing into greater understanding of the forces and workings of nature4 ,these forces--variations and modifications of the one force--,electrical energy--have ever ,,been2 but it has taken millions of ages and the evolution and development of man's intelligence to even grasp the ,a1 ,b1 ,c of this almighty power4 ,the future has in store discoveries of such magnitude and of such vast importance to the human race in this field of electrical phenomena that we may well exclaim1 as did the psalmist1 8such knowledge is too wonderful for me1 it is high1 ,i cannot attain unto it40 ,all natural law is but some form of electrical energy by which is evolved all the various manifestations of this wonder-working substance4 ,atmospheres1 ether1 air1 fire1 water1 earth1 stars1 planets1 suns1 worlds1 man1 are but combinations and vibrations of the integral particles or electrons of this one substance4 ,mountain and star-mist1 consciousness1 intelligence1 savage1 ,sage1 ,sufi1 all objective and subjective 7organic and inorganic7 entities1 are but the infinite manifestations of this universal substance4 ,the ,x-ray is but an intense display produced by the vibration of trillions of these electrons4 ,all that is called mind and all that is called matter1 is but an expression of this one universal substance4 ,in its eternal restless energy it creates1 preserves1 destroys1 innumerable forms of mind and matter4 ,this is eternal life4 ,this is eternal intelligence4 ,and 8,day unto day uttereth speech and night unto night showeth knowledge40 ,a recent author on 8,individualism and the vibratory energy0 says1 8,spirit and matter are one and the same vibratory force2 and mind and matter are one and not distinct substances40 ,since commencing to write these lines the author has found a number of writers whose works have been of great help to him1 and served to confirm him in his theory4 ,the attunement of the brain cells to varying rates of vibration in the universe1 brings all things to you on the principle of the wireless telegraph4 8,all things are yours10 was the announcement of the ,master of the ,christian system4 ,this is scientifically true4 ,the universe is at your disposal and you can get it4 ,not through sorrow1 and toil and labor1 but in the same way that trees and flowers get it--inspirationally4 ,telepathy1 which is attracting wide-spread notice at the present time1 is as scientific as telegraphy4 ,some of the greater scientists are investigating its claims through 8spiritual mediums10 though there are few who accept the latter's claims1 as in such a field it would be impossible to prevent impostors from preying upon the ignorant and credulous4 ,there are honest mediums4 ,in fact1 every human entity is a 8medium10 receiving and transmitting1 receiving and transmitting continually4 ,there are some so acutely attuned by environment and habit of thought1 to the universe of thought1 that they receive communications beyond their fellows4 ,these are poets1 artists1 musicians1 inventors1 etc4 ,the thoughts of ,plato1 ,socrates1 ,krishma1 ,jesus1 ,,are today4 ,you may know all they knew if you can attune yourself to such a rate of vibration as to establish the proper connection4 ,this is a plain1 every-day1 scientific1 matter-of-fact explanation of all modern 8spiritualistic communications40 ,there should be no more mystery or superstition1 or spiritual clap-trap about it than there is about wireless telegraphy4 ,there are persons who can readily attune themselves to the vibrations of another and 8read the thoughts0--unconscious as well as conscious--of individuals composing an entire audience4 ,with many this is easily accomplished through personal contact4 ,some years ago the writer of these pages was well acquainted with ,washington ,irving ,bishop1 the great 8mind reader10 who since died1 or was murdered by doctors in ,new ,york1 who dissected his brain while he was in a cataleptic condition1 they supposing him dead4 ,one of his performances was to have some stranger take a bank-note1 read the number on it and place it in a safe4 ,during this time ,bishop was at some distance away heavily blindfolded4 ,when all was ready1 he would take this man's hand and after a short interval give the number on the bank-note1 which was invariably found to be correct4 ,i questioned him very closely on this performance1 which ,i witnessed frequently4 ,he said as soon as he placed his fingers on the wrist of the man who placed the note1 the number would come to him without difficulty4 ,he claimed that it was telepathy or clairvoyance4 ,as a matter of fact1 it was simply attunement to the mind of the man who knew the number1 and1 as in the action of the wireless telegraph1 the two brains being similarly attuned1 the message was sent and received4 ,there are many today to whom this would be a mere kindergarten performance4 ,you perhaps did not know that every time you shake hands you run the risk of giving away your inmost secrets4 ,i am prepared to tell you that this is true4 8,there is nothing hidden but it shall be revealed1 and there is nothing secret but it shall be made known40 ,we receive impressions of impending disaster which we regard as 8supernatural40 ,once for all let me say there is nothing supernatural4 ,a knowledge of this fact ought to cure you of your superstitions and destroy your fears4 ,light1 sound1 color1 travel faster than letters or telegrams4 ,the impending disaster vibrations often reach us long before the actual occurrence itself4 ,even as we see the flash of lightening1 or the flash of the powder1 before we hear the thunder or the report of the cannon4 ,all these things are but movements of the electrons of the universe1 carrying out the natural law of their being1 which is electrical impulse4 ,prof4 ,dolbear says1 8,molecules which are a combination of atoms1 are known to have their constant state of vibrations and from this and the fact of their perfect transparency1 they can no more be seen than the air4 ,they are so minute1 so restless1 like atoms of hydrogen1 that no one can hope to see them or learn their characteristic properties40 ,observation and study of the phenomena of electrical energy reveal to us the nature of that substance1 which we are1 and with which we have to do4 ,the fundamental1 inevitable1 never-varying law of polarity--pushing and pulling--or positive and negative action4 ,in creation1 throughout all experience1 this is seen4 ,land and sea1 day and night1 right and left1 up and down1 sweet and sour1 east and west1 north and south1 good and bad1 right and wrong1 man and woman1 attraction and repulsion--the so-called 8pairs of opposites01--,sex everywhere4 ,is it difficult to see by analogy and deduction that polarity is universal4 ,that all phenomena are electrical phenomena4 ,that birth1 and growth1 disease and disaster1 decline and death are all electrical phenomena1 and that there is but one synthetic
