,world2  ,to the ,president of the      
,united ,states of ,america2  ,to the   
,governors of the several ,states2      
,rulers and ,people of all ,nations3    
,,greeting3      ,,know ,,ye3--         
,,that the kingdom of ,god has come3 as 
has been predicted by ancient  prophets1
 and prayed for in all ages2 even that  
kingdom which shall  fill the whole     
earth1 and shall stand for ever4    ,the
 great ,eloheem ,jehovah has been       
pleased once more to speak from the     
heavens2 and also to commune with man   
upon the earth1 by means of open        
visions1 and by the ministration of     
,,holy ,,messengers4    ,by this means  
the great and eternal ,high ,priesthood1
 after the ,order of  his ,son1 even the
 ,apostleship1 has been restored2 or1   
returned to the  earth4    ,this ,high  
,priesthood1 or ,apostleship1 holds the 

keys of the kingdom of  ,god1 and power 
to bind on earth that which shall be    
bound in heaven2  and to loose on earth 
that which shall be loosed in heaven4   
,and1  in fine1 to do1 and to administer
 in all things pertaining to the        
ordinances1 organization1 government and
 direction of the kingdom of  ,god4     
,being established in these last days   
for the restoration of all things       
spoken by the prophets since the world  
began2 and in order to prepare  the way 
for the coming of the ,son of ,man4     
,and we now bear witness that his coming
 is near at hand2 and not many  years   
hence1 the nations and their kings shall
 see him coming in the  clouds of heaven
 with power and great glory4    ,in     
order to meet this great event there    
must needs be a preparation4            
,therefore we send unto you with        
authority from on high1 and command  you
 all to repent and humble yourselves as 
little children1 before the  majesty of 
the ,holy ,one2 and come unto ,jesus    

with a broken heart and a  contrite     
spirit1 and be baptized in his name1 for
 the remission of sins  7that is1 be    
buried in the water in the likeness of  
his burial and rise  again to newness of
 life1 in the likeness of his           
resurrection71 and you  shall receive   
the gift of the ,holy ,spirit1 through  
the laying on of the  hands of the      
,apostles and elders1 of this great and 
last dispensation  of mercy to man4     
,this ,spirit shall bear witness to you1
 of the truth of our testimony2  and    
shall enlighten your minds1 and be in   
you as the spirit of prophecy  and      
revelation4 ,it shall bring things past 
to your understanding and  remembrance2 
and shall show you things to come4      
,it shall also impart unto you many     
great and glorious gifts2 such as  the  
gift of healing the sick1 and of being  
healed1 by the laying on of  hands in   
the name of ,jesus2 and of expelling    
,demons2 and even of seeing  visions1   
and conversing with ,angels and spirits 

from the unseen world4    ,by the light 
of this ,spirit1 received through the   
ministration of the  ordinances--by the 
power and authority of the ,holy        
,apostleship and  ,priesthood1 you will 
be enabled to understand1 and to be the 
children  of light2 and thus be prepared
 to escape all the things that are      
coming  on the earth1 and so stand      
before the ,son of ,man4    ,we testify 
that the foregoing doctrine is the      
doctrine or gospel  of ,jesus ,christ1  
in its fulness2 and that it is the only 
true1  everlasting1 and unchangeable    
gospel2 and the only plan revealed on   
earth whereby man can be saved4    ,we  
also bear testimony that the ,indians   
7so called7 of ,north and  ,south       
,america are a remnant of the tribes of 
,israel2 as is now made  manifest by the
 discovery and revelation of their      
ancient oracles and  records4    ,and   
that they are about to be gathered1     
civilized1 and made one  nation in this 
glorious land4    ,they will also come  

to the knowledge of their forefathers1  
and of the  fulness of the gospel2 and  
they will embrace it1 and become a      
righteous  branch of the house of       
,israel4    ,and we further testify that
 the ,lord has appointed a holy city and
  temple to be built on this continent  
for the endowment and ordinances        
pertaining to the priesthood2 and for   
the ,gentiles1 and the remnant  of      
,israel to resort unto1 in order to     
worship the ,lord2 and to be  taught in 
his ways and walk in his paths3 in      
short1 to finish their  preparations for
 the coming of the ,lord4    ,and we    
further testify1 that the ,jews among   
all nations are hereby  commanded1 in   
the name of the ,messiah1 to prepare1 to
 return to  ,jerusalem in ,palestine2   
and to rebuild that city and temple unto
 the  ,lord3    ,and also to organize   
and establish their own political       
government1  under their own rulers1    
judges1 and governors in that country4  
,for be it known unto them that we now  

hold the keys of the priesthood  and    
kingdom which is soon to be restored    
unto them4    ,therefore let them also  
repent and prepare to obey the          
ordinances of  ,god4    ,and now1 ,o ye 
kings1 rulers1 and people of the        
,gentiles3 hear ye the  word of the     
,lord2 for this commandment is for you4 
,you are not only  required to repent   
and obey the gospel in its fulness1 and 
thus become  members or citizens of the 
kingdom of ,god1 but you are also hereby
  commanded1 in the name of ,jesus      
,christ1 to put your silver and your    
gold1 your ships and steam-vessels1 your
 railroad trains and your  horses1      
chariots1 camels1 mules1 and litters1   
into active use1 for the  fulfilment of 
these purposes4 ,for be it known unto   
you1 that the only  salvation which     
remains for the ,gentiles1 is for them  
to be identified  in the same covenant1 
and to worship at the same altar with   
,israel4 ,in  short1 they must come to  
the same standard4 ,for1 there shall be 

one  ,lord1 and his name one1 and ,he   
shall be king over all the earth4       
,the ,latter-day ,saints1 since their   
first organization in the year  #ahcj1  
have been a poor1 persecuted1 abused1   
and afflicted people4 ,they  have       
sacrificed their time and property      
freely1 for the sake of laying  the     
foundation of the kingdom of ,god1 and  
enlarging its dominion1 by  the ministry
 of the gospel4 ,they have suffered     
privation1 hunger1  imprisonment1 and   
the loss of houses1 lands1 home1 and    
political  rights1 for their testimony4 
,and this is not all2 but their first   
founder1 ,mr4 ,joseph ,smith1 whom  ,god
 raised up as a ,prophet and ,apostle1  
mighty in word and in deed1 and  his    
brother ,hiram1 who was also a prophet1 
together with many others1  have        
suffered a cruel martyrdom in the cause 
of truth2 and have sealed  their        
testimony with their blood4 ,and still  
the work has1 as it were1  but just     
begun4    ,a great1 a glorious1 and a   

mighty work is yet to be achieved1 in   
spreading the truth and kingdom among   
the ,gentiles--in restoring1            
organizing1 instructing and establishing
 the ,jews--in gathering1  instructing1 
relieving1 civilizing1 educating and    
administering  salvation to the remnant 
of ,israel on this continent2 in        
building  ,jerusalem in ,palestine2 and 
the cities1 stakes1 temples1 and        
sanctuaries of ,zion in ,america2 and in
 gathering the ,gentiles into the  same 
covenant and organization--instructing  
them in all things for  their           
sanctification and preparation2 that the
 whole ,church of the  ,saints1 both    
,gentile1 ,jew and ,israel1 may be      
prepared as a bride1 for  the coming of 
the ,lord4    ,and now1 ,o ye kings1    
rulers1 presidents1 governors1 judges1  
legislators1 nobles1 lords1 and rich men
 of the earth2 will you leave  us1 to   
struggle alone1 and to toil unaided in  
so great a work8 ,or will  you share in 
the labors1 toils1 sacrifices1 honors   

and blessings of the  same8    ,have you
 not the same interest in it that we    
have8 ,is it not sent forth  to renovate
 the world--to enlighten the nations--to
 cover the earth  with light1 knowledge1
 truth1 union1 peace and love8 ,and thus
 usher in  the great millennium1 or     
sabbath of rest1 so long expected and   
sought  for by all good men8 ,we bear   
testimony that it is4 ,and the          
fulfilment  of oar words will establish 
their truth1 to millions yet unborn3    
while  there are those now living upon  
the earth who will live to see the      
consummation4    ,come1 then1 to the    
help of the ,lord2 and let us have your 
aid and  protection--and your willing   
and hearty co-operation1 in this1 the   
greatest of all revolutions4    ,again1 
we say1 by the word of the ,lord to the 
people1 as well as to the  rulers3 your 
aid and assistance is required in this  
great work1 and you  are hereby invited1
 in the name of ,jesus1 to take an      
active part in it  from this day        

forward4    ,open your churches1 doors1 
and hearts for the truth4 ,hear the     
,apostles  and elders of the church of  
the ,saints1 when they come into your   
cities  and neighborhoods4 ,read and    
search the scriptures carefully and see 
whether these things are so--read the   
publications of the ,saints1 and  help  
to publish them to others4 ,seek for the
 witness of the ,spirit1 and  come and  
obey the glorious fulness of the gospel3
 and help us build the  cities and      
sanctuaries of our ,god4    ,the sons   
and daughters of ,zion will soon be     
required to devote a  portion of their  
time in instructing the children of the 
forest4 ,for  they must be educated1 and
 instructed in all the arts of civil    
life1 as  well as in the gospel4 ,they  
must be clothed1 fed1 and instructed in 
the  principles and practice of virtue1 
modesty1 temperance1 cleanliness1       
industry1 mechanical arts1 manners1     
customs1 dress1 music1 and all  other   
things which are calculated in their    

nature to refine1 purify1  exalt and    
glorify them1 as the sons and daughters 
of the royal house  of ,israel1 and of  
,joseph2 who are making ready for the   
coming of the  bridegroom4    ,know     
assuredly1 that whether you come to the 
help of the ,saints in this  great work1
 or whether you make light of this      
message1 and withhold  your aid and     
co-operation1 it is all the same as to  
the success and  final triumph of the   
work4 ,for it is the work of the great  
,god2 for  which his ,,word and ,,oath  
has been pledged1 from before the       
foundation of  the world4 ,and the same 
promise and oath has been renewed unto  
man from  the beginning1 down through   
each succeeding dispensation3 ,,and     
,,confirmed  ,,again ,,by ,,his ,,own   
,,voice ,,out ,,of ,,the ,,heavens ,,in 
,,the ,,present ,,age4 ,therefore  he is
 bound to fulfil it2 and to overcome    
every obstacle4    ,the loss will       
therefore be on their own part1 and not 
on the part of  ,god1 or of his ,saints1

 should the people neglect their duty in
 the  great work of modern restoration4 
,there is also another consideration of 
vast importance to all the  rulers and  
people of the world1 in regard to this  
matter4 ,it is this3  ,as this work     
progresses in its onward course1 and    
becomes more and more  an object of     
political and religious interest and    
excitement1 no king1  ruler1 or subject1
 no community or individual1 will stand 
neutral4  ,all will at length be        
influenced by one spirit or the other2  
and will  take sides either for or      
against the kingdom of ,god1 and the    
fulfilment  of the prophets1 in the     
great restoration and return of his long
  dispersed covenant people4    ,some   
will act the part of the venerable      
,jethro1 the father-in-law  of ,moses2  
or the noble ,cyrus2 and will aid and   
bless the people of  ,god2 or like      
,ruth1 the ,moabitess1 will forsake     
their people and their  kindred and     
country1 and will say to the ,saints1 or

 to ,israel3 ,this  people shall be my  
people1 and their ,god my ,god4 ,while  
others will  walk in the footsteps of a 
,pharaoh1 or a ,balak1 and will harden  
their hearts1 and fight against ,god1   
and seek to destroy his people4  ,these 
will commune with priests and prophets  
who love the wages of  unrighteousness2 
and who1 like ,balaam1 will seek to     
curse1 or to find  enchantments against 
,israel4    ,you cannot therefore stand 
as idle and disinterested spectators of 
the  scenes and events which are        
calculated in their very nature to      
reduce  all nations and creeds to one   
political and religious standard1 and   
thus put an end to ,babel forms and     
names1 and to strife and war4 ,you      
will1 therefore1 either be led by the   
good ,spirit to cast in your lot1  and  
to take a lively interest with the      
,saints of the ,most ,high1 and  the    
covenant people of the ,lord1 or on the 
other hand1 you will become  their      
inveterate enemy1 and oppose them by    

every means in your power4    ,to such  
an extreme will this great division     
finally extend1 that  the nations of the
 old world will combine to oppose these 
things by  military force4 ,they will   
send a great army to ,palestine1 against
 the  ,jews2 and they will besiege their
 city1 and will reduce the inhabitants  
of ,jerusalem to the greatest extreme of
 distress and misery4    ,then will     
commence a struggle in which the fate of
 nations and empires  will be suspended 
on a single battle4    ,in this battle  
the governors and people of ,judah      
distinguish themselves  for their       
bravery and warlike achievements4 ,the  
weak among them will  be like ,david1   
and the strong among them will be like  
,god3 or like the  angel of the ,lord4  
,in that day the ,lord will pour upon   
the inhabitants of ,jerusalem the       
spirit of grace and supplication1 and   
they shall look upon the ,messiah  whom 
they have pierced4    ,for lo6 he will  
descend from heaven1 as the defender of 

the ,jews3 and  to complete their       
victory4 ,his feet will stand in that   
day upon the  ,mount of ,olives1 which  
shall cleave in sunder at his presence1 
and  remove one half to the north1 and  
the other to the south2 thus forming  a 
great valley where the mountain now     
stands4    ,the earth will quake around 
him1 while storm and tempest1 hail and  
plague1 are mingled with the clash of   
arms1 the roar of artillery1 the  shouts
 of victory1 and the groans of the      
wounded and dying4    ,in that day all  
who are in the siege1 both against      
,judea and against  ,jerusalem1 shall be
 cut in pieces2 though all the people of
 the earth  should be gathered together 
against it4    ,this signal victory on  
the part of the ,jews1 so unlooked for  
by the  nations1 and attended with the  
personal advent of ,messiah1 and the    
accompanying events1 will change the    
whole order of things in ,europe  and   
,asia1 in regard to political and       
religious organization1 and  government4

    ,the ,jews as a nation become holy  
from that day forward2 and their city   
and sanctuary becomes holy4 ,there also 
the ,messiah establishes his  throne1   
and seat of government4    ,jerusalem   
then becomes the seat of empire1 and the
 great centre and  capital of the old   
world4    ,all the families of the land 
shall then go up to ,jerusalem once a   
year1 to worship the ,king1 the ,lord of
 ,hosts1 and to keep the feast of       
,tabernacles4    ,those who refuse to go
 up1 shall have no rain1 but shall be   
smitten  with dearth and famine4 ,and if
 the family of ,egypt go not up 7as it  
never rains there7 they shall be smitten
 with the plague4 ,and thus all  things 
shall be fulfilled according to the     
words of the holy prophets  of old1 and 
the word of the ,lord which is now      
revealed1 to confirm and  fulfil them4  
,in short the kings1 rulers1 priests and
 people of ,europe1 and of the  old     
world1 shall know this once that there  
is a ,god in ,israel1 who1 as  in days  

of old1 can utter his voice1 and it     
shall be obeyed4    ,the courts of      
,rome1 ,london1 ,paris1 ,constantinople1
 ,petersburgh1 and all  others1 will    
then have to yield the point1 and do    
homage1 and all pay  tribute to one     
,great ,centre1 and to one mighty       
,sovereign1 or1 ,,thrones  ,,will ,,be  
,,cast ,,down1 ,,and ,,kingdoms ,,will  
,,cease ,,to ,,be4    ,priests1 bishops1
 and clergy1 whether ,catholic1         
,protestant1 or  ,mahomedan1 will then  
have to yield their pretended claims to 
the  priesthood1 together with titles1  
honors1 creeds and names2 and  reverence
 and obey the true and royal priesthood 
of the order of  ,melchisedech1 and of  
,aaron2 restored to the rightful heirs1 
the  nobility of ,israel2 or1 the dearth
 and famine will consume them1 and  the 
plague sweep them quickly down to the   
pit1 as in the case of ,korah1  ,dathan 
and ,abiram1 who pretended to the       
priesthood1 and rebelled  against ,god's
 chosen priests and prophets1 in the    

days of ,moses4    ,while these great   
events are rolling on the wheels of     
time1 and being  fulfilled in the old   
world1 the ,western ,continent will     
present a scene  of grandeur1 greatness1
 and glory1 far surpassing the scene    
just  described4    ,the ,lord will make
 her that halted a remnant2 and gather  
her that was  driven out and afflicted2 
and make her who was cast afar off1 a   
strong  nation2 and will reign over them
 in ,mount ,zion from that time forth   
and for ever4    ,or1 in other words1   
,he will assemble the ,natives1 the     
remnants of  ,joseph in ,america2 and   
make of them a great1 and strong1 and   
powerful  nation3 and he will civilize  
and enlighten them1 and will establish a
  holy city1 and temple1 and seat of    
government among them1 which shall  be  
called ,zion4    ,and there shall be his
 tabernacle1 his sanctuary1 his throne1 
and seat  of government for the whole   
continent of ,north and ,south ,america 
for  ever4    ,in short1 it will be to  

the western hemisphere what ,jerusalem  
will be  to the eastern4    ,and there  
the ,messiah will visit them in person2 
and the old ,saints1  who will then have
 been raised from the dead1 will be with
 him4 ,and he  will establish his       
kingdom and laws over all the land4     
,to this city1 and to its several       
branches or stakes1 shall the ,gentiles 
seek1 as to a standard of light and     
knowledge4 ,yea1 the nations1 and  their
 kings and nobles1 shall say1 ,come1 and
 let us go up to the  ,mount ,zion1 and 
to the temple of the ,lord2 where his   
holy priesthood  stand to minister      
continually before the ,lord2 and where 
we may be  instructed more fully1 and   
receive the ordinances of remission1 and
 of  sanctification1 and redemption2 and
 thus be adopted into the family of     
,israel1 and identified in the same     
covenants of promise4    ,the despised  
and degraded son of the forest1 who has 
wandered in  dejection and sorrow1 and  
suffered reproach1 shall then drop his  

disguise1 and stand forth in manly      
dignity1 and exclaim to the ,gentiles   
who have envied and sold him3 ,i am     
,joseph3 does my father yet live8  ,or1 
in other words3 ,i am a descendant of   
that ,joseph who was sold  into ,egypt4 
,you have hated me1 and sold me1 and    
thought ,i was  dead4 ,but lo6 ,i live1 
and am heir to the inheritance1 titles1 
honors1  priesthood1 sceptre1 crown1    
throne1 and eternal life and dignity of 
my  fathers1 who live for evermore4     
,he shall then be ordained1 washed1     
anointed with holy oil1 and arrayed  in 
fine linen1 even in the glorious and    
beautiful garments and royal  robes of  
the high priesthood1 which is after the 
order of the ,son of  ,god2 and shall   
enter into the congregation of the      
,lord1 even into the  ,holy of ,holies1 
there to be crowned with authority and  
power which  shall never end4    ,the   
,spirit of the ,lord shall then descend 
upon him1 like the dew upon  the        
mountains of ,hermon1 and like          

refreshing showers of rain upon the     
flowers of ,paradise4    ,his heart     
shall expand with knowledge1 wide as    
eternity2 and his mind  shall comprehend
 the vast creations of his ,god1 and    
,his eternal purpose  of redemption1    
glory1 and exaltation1 which was devised
 in heaven  before the worlds were      
organized2 but made manifest in these   
last days1  for the fulness of the      
,gentiles1 and for the exaltation of    
,israel4    ,he shall also behold his   
,redeemer1 and be filled with his       
presence1  while the cloud of his glory 
shall be seen in his temple4    ,the    
city of ,zion1 with its sanctuary and   
priesthood1 and the glorious  fulness of
 the gospel1 will constitute a standard 
which will put  an end to jarring creeds
 and political wranglings1 by uniting   
the  republics1 states1 provinces1      
territories1 nations1 tribes1 kindred1  
tongues1 people1 and sects of ,north and
 ,south ,america in one great and       
common bond of brotherhood4    ,while   

truth and knowledge shall make them     
free1 and love cement their  union4 ,the
 ,lord also shall be their king and     
their lawgiver2 while wars  shall cease1
 and peace prevail for a thousand years4
    ,thus shall ,american rulers1       
statesmen1 citizens1 and savages know1  
this once1 that there is a ,god in      
,israel1 who can utter his voice1  and  
it shall be fulfilled4    ,americans6   
,this mighty and strange work has been  
commenced in your  midst1 and must roll 
on in fulfilment4    ,you are now       
invited1 and earnestly intreated1 to    
investigate it  thoroughly1 and to aid  
and participate in its accomplishment4  
,you ask4 ,what can be done8    ,we     
answer3 ,protect the ,saints2 give them 
their rights2 extend the  broad banner  
of the ,constitution and laws over their
 homes1 cities1  fire-sides1 wives1 and 
children2 that they may ,,cease to be   
,,butchered1  ,,martyred1 ,,robbed1     
,,plundered1 ,,and ,,driven1 and may    
peaceably proceed in  the work assigned 

them by their ,god4    ,execute the ,law
 upon the offenders1 and thus rid your  
garments of  ,,innocent ,,blood4        
,pass acts1 also1 to indemnify them in  
the millions they have lost1 by  your   
cruel and criminal neglect4             
,contribute liberally of your substance 
for their aid1 and for the  fulfilment  
of their mission4    ,let the           
,government of the ,united ,states also 
continue to gather  together1 and to    
colonize the tribes and remnants of     
,israel 7the  ,indians71 and also to    
feed1 clothe1 succor1 and protect them1 
and  endeavor to civilize and unite2 and
 also to bring them to the knowledge  of
 their ,israelitish origin1 and of the  
fulness of the gospel which was         
revealed to1 and written by1 their      
forefathers on this land2 the record  of
 which has now come to light4    ,it is 
these records1 together with the other  
scriptures1 and the  priesthood and     
authority now conferred upon the        
,saints1 that will  effect their final  

conversion and salvation2 while the     
creeds of man1  and the powerless forms 
and dogmas of sectarianism will still   
remain  powerless and inefficient4      
,the ,lord has spoken1 and who can      
disannul it8 ,he has uttered his voice1 
and who can gainsay it8 ,he has         
stretched out his arm1 and who can turn 
it back8    ,why will not the government
 and people tof these ,states become    
acquainted with these ,records8 ,they   
are published among them for this       
purpose4    ,they would then begin to   
know and understand what was to be done 
with  these remnants1 and what part they
 have to act in the great restitution   
of ,israel1 and of the kingdom of ,god4 
,they would also know the object  of the
 labors1 and the final destiny of the   
,latter-day ,saints as a  ,church and   
people4 ,and this very subject has been 
a source of wonder  and conjecture1 and 
sometimes even of anxiety among the     
people1 ever  since the first           
organization of the ,saints in the year 

#ahcj4    ,and more than all this1 they 
would know the destiny of this          
,republic1  and of all other            
,governments1 ,states1 or ,republics in 
,america--and  the purpose of ,god in   
relation to this continent1 from the    
earliest  ages of antiquity1 till the   
present1 and from this time forth till  
the  heavens and the earth shall pass   
away1 and be created anew4 ,all these   
subjects are made plain in these ancient
 ,records1 and are rolling on in        
fulfilment4    ,if the rulers and people
 will now inform themselves on these    
momentous  subjects1 and fulfil the     
duties we have just pointed out to them1
 they  will then be entitled to a       
continuation of the great national      
blessings  and favors they have         
heretofore enjoyed2 yea1 and to more    
abundant  favors from ,his bountiful    
hand1 who first raised them to national 
greatness4 ,they will in that case be   
prospered and enlarged1 and spread      
their dominion wide and more wide over  

this vast country1 till not only  ,texas
 and ,oregon1 but the whole vast        
dominion from sea to sea1 will  be      
joined with them1 and come under their  
protection as one great1  powerful and  
peaceful empire of ,liberty and ,union4 
,millions of people  would also come    
from all nations1 their silver and their
 gold with  them1 and would take        
protection under our banner1 till in    
less than  half a century from the      
present time we would have upwards of a 
hundred  millions of population1 all    
united and free1 while civilisation1    
arts1  cultivation and improvement would
 extend to the most wild regions of  our
 continent1 making our wilderness like  
,eden and our deserts like  the garden  
of the ,lord4 ,or1 if they will go still
 further1 and obey  the fulness of the  
gospel1 they would then be entitled1 not
 only to  temporal blessings1 but to the
 gifts of the ,holy ,spirit1 and thus be
  prepared to receive their king1       
,messiah1 and to dwell for ever under   

his peaceful government in this happy   
country4    ,but1 so long as they remain
 indifferent and ignorant on these      
subjects1  and so long as they continue 
to breathe out slanders1 lies1 hatred   
and murder against the ,saints and      
against the remnants of ,israel1 and  to
 speak evil of and oppose the things    
which they understand not1 so  long the 
blood of the ,saints and of the martyrs 
of ,jesus must continue  to flow1 and   
the souls to cry from under the altar   
for vengeance on  a guilty land1 till   
the great ,messiah shall execute        
judgment for the  ,saints1 and give them
 the dominion4    ,it is in vain to     
suppose that the sword1 the musket1 the 
thunder of  cannon1 or the grating and  
rattle of chains1 bolts and bars1 will  
take  away the faith1 hope or knowledge 
of a ,latter-day ,saint4 ,they know     
some facts--and these will continue to  
be known facts when death  and war in   
their most horrid forms are raging      
around them4 ,they cannot  shut their   

eyes upon these facts to please either  
governors1 rulers1 or  the raging       
multitude4    ,we would now make a      
solemn appeal to our rulers and other   
fellow-citizens1 whether it is treason  
to know8 or even to publish  what we    
know8 ,if it is1 then strike the        
murderous blow1 but listen to  what we  
say4    ,we say1 then1 in life or in    
death1 in bonds or free1 that the great 
,god  has spoken in this age4--,and we  
know it4    ,he has given us the ,holy  
,priesthood and ,apostleship1 and the   
keys of  the kingdom of ,god1 to bring  
about the restoration of all things as  
promised by the holy prophets of        
old4--,and we know it4    ,he has       
revealed the origin and the ,records of 
the aboriginal tribes of  ,america1 and 
their future destiny4--,and we know it4 
,he has revealed the fulness of the     
gospel1 with its gifts1 blessings1  and 
ordinances4--,and we know it4    ,he has
 commanded us to bear witness of it1    
first to the ,gentiles1 and  then to the

 remnants of ,israel and the            
,jews4--,and we know it4    ,he has     
commanded us to gather together his     
,saints on this ,continent1  and build  
up holy cities and sanctuaries4--,and we
 know it4    ,he has said1 that the     
,gentiles should come into the same     
gospel and  covenant2 and be numbered   
with the house of ,israel2 and be a     
blessed  people upon this good land for 
ever1 if they would repent and embrace  
it4--,and we know it4    ,he has also   
said that1 if they do not repent1 and   
come to the knowledge  of the truth1 and
 cease to fight against ,zion1 and also 
put away all  murder1 lying1 pride1     
priestcraft1 whoredom1 and secret       
abomination1  they shall soon perish    
from the earth1 and be cast down to     
hell4--,and  we know it4    ,he has     
said1 that the time is at hand for the  
,jews to be gathered to                 
,jerusalem4--,and we know it4    ,he has
 said1 that the ,ten ,tribes of ,israel 
should also be revealed in  the ,north  

country1 together with their oracles and
 records1 preparatory  to their return1 
and to their union with ,judah1 no more 
to be  separated4--,and we know it4     
,he has said1 that when these           
preparations were made1 both in this    
country and in ,jerusalem1 and the      
gospel in all its fulness preached  to  
all nations for a witness and testimony1
 ,he will come1 and all the  ,saints    
with him1 to reign on the earth one     
thousand years4--,and we  know it4      
,he has said that he will not come in   
his glory and destroy the wicked1  till 
these warnings were given and these     
preparations were made for his          
reception4--,and we know it4    ,now1   
fellow-citizens1 if this knowledge1 or  
the publishing of it1 is  treason or    
crime1 we refuse not to die4    ,but be 
ye sure of this1 that whether we live or
 die1 the words of the  testimony of    
this proclamation which we now send unto
 you1 shall all be  fulfilled4          
,heaven and earth shall pass away1 but  

not one jot or tittle of his  revealed  
word shall fail to be fulfilled4        
,therefore1 again we say to all people4 
,repent1 and be baptized in the  name of
 ,jesus ,christ1 for remission of sins2 
and you shall receive the  ,holy        
,spirit1 and shall know the truth1 and  
be numbered with the house  of ,israel4 
,and we once more invite all the kings1 
presidents1 governors1 rulers1  judges1 
and people of the earth1 to aid us1 the 
,latter-day ,saints2 and  also1 the     
,jews1 and all the remnants of ,israel1 
by your influence and  protection1 and  
by your silver and gold1 that we may    
build the cities  of ,zion and          
,jerusalem1 and the temples and         
sanctuaries of our ,god2 and  may       
accomplish the great restoration of all 
things1 and bring in the  latter-day    
glory4    ,that knowledge1 truth1 light1
 love1 peace1 union1 honor1 glory1 and  
power1 may fill the earth with eternal  
life and joy4    ,that death1 bondage1  
oppression1 wars1 mourning1 sorrow1 and 

pain1 may  be done away for ever1 and   
all tears be wiped from every eye4      
,in fulfilment of the work assigned     
them1 let the ,saints throughout the    
world1 and all others who feel an       
interest in the work of ,god1 forward   
their gifts1 tithes1 and offerings1 for 
the building of the temple of  the      
,lord1 which is now in progress in the  
city of ,nauvoo1 in the ,state  of      
,illinois4    ,let them also come on    
with their gold and silver1 and goods1  
and  workmen1 to establish manufactories
 and business of all kinds1 for the     
building up of the city2 and for the    
employment and support of the  poor1 and
 thus strengthen the hands of those who 
have borne the burden  and heat of the  
day1 and who have made great sacrifices 
in laying the  foundation of the kingdom
 of ,god1 and moving on the work thus   
far4    ,we also make a solemn and an   
earnest request of all ,editors of      
newspapers1 both in this country and    
other countries1 to publish this        

proclamation4 ,it certainly contains    
news1 such as is not met with at  all   
times1 and in every place1 and cannot   
fail to interest the reading  public1   
especially those who have prayed every  
day of their lives for  the ,lord's     
kingdom to come2 and for his will to be 
done on the earth1  as it is done in    
heaven4    ,president ,wilford          
,woodruff1 who superintends the         
publishing department  of the           
,latter-day ,saints1 in ,liverpool1     
,england1 is also requested to  give    
this proclamation a wide circulation    
throughout ,england1 ,scotland1         
,ireland1 and the ,isle of ,man4        
,elder ,jones1 our minister to ,wales1  
is hereby instructed to publish  the    
same in the ,welsh language1 and        
circulate it widely through that        
country4    ,it should also be          
translated into ,german1 by some of our 
,german elders1  and published both in  
this country1 and on the continent of   
,europe4  ,also in ,spanish and in      

,french4    ,our ,norwegian elders in   
the branch at ,norway1 ,illinois1 should
 also  translate and publish it in their
 language1 both in this country and in  
,norway1 in ,europe4    ,elder ,adison  
,pratt1 our missionary to the ,sandwich 
,islands1 should also  translate and    
publish it there4    ,we also rely on   
our friends1 the ,jews1 throughout the  
world1 to give it  a wide circulation in
 all their tongues and languages4       
,and last1 but not least1 we would      
invite the ,editor of the ,cherokee     
,advocate1 and others of the remnant of 
,joseph1 to publish the same as         
extensively as possible in the ,indian  
tongues4    ,we also will endeavor on   
our part1 to publish at our office1 ,no4
 #g  ,spruce street1 ,new ,york1 one    
hundred thousand copies of this work1 to
  circulate in this country1 gratis4    
,and will do our best endeavors  to send
 them to all presidents1 governors1     
legislators1 judges1  postmasters1      
rulers1 and people1 not forgetting the  

clergy4    ,all persons who wish to aid 
us in so doing1 will please forward us  
contributions for that purpose1 directed
