,tho' thy life work may be humble1 ,keep a brave and trusting heart2 ,do it well1 it is thy portion1 ,god himself assigned the part4 ,there is not on earth another-- ,even monarch of the throne-- ,who can fill thy place so nobly1 ,as thyself1 thyself alone4 ,if a few shall rise above thee1 ,and the world their deeds applaud1 ,do not let their fame depress thee1 ,none can judge thee save thy ,god4 ,,constancy4 ,he makes the most of life1 who soonest learns ,that 'tis not best to try for heights too high1 ,nor yet to be content with vales too low2 ,but day by day upon his upward way1 ,accepts the possible for which he yearns1 ,rejects those things that far beneath him lie1 ,and asks the strength of slow success1 to know1 ,which gains the ,heaven for which we mortals pray4 ,,fairest ,,days4 saving souls along the way1 ,will be forgotten never4 ,both autocrat and peasant poor1 ,with heaven born inspiration1 ,composed these grand and soulful themes ,that wake the dreamer from his dreams1 ,and shall1 while patriot rights endure1 ,arouse a loyal nation4 ,the mighty chimes ring out the fame ,of him who wrote with feeling1 ,and while sweet symphonies prolong1 ,he lives again to move the throng1 ,and preaches in ,jehovah's name ,from spires where bells are pealing4 ,,mother4 ,in all the wide world there is not another ,whose name is so dear as the sweet name of mother4 ,the babe's tiny head finds it's most perfect rest1 ,when pillowed from harm on the fair mother breast2 ,the youth1 from all sorrow1 temptation and care1 ,seeks the warm mother heart and finds comfort there2 ,the woman1 whose virtues are whispered above1 ,will daily thank ,god for the dear 8mother love20 ,the man1 be he lover1 or husband1 or brother1 ,will ever hold sacred the love of his mother4 ,tho' the years may have turned her tresses to gray1 ,and the rose from her cheek may have faded away1 ,tho' her step1 once so light1 may have feebled with age1 ,and her eyes may have grown too dim for the page1 ,tho' the hand that was once so dainty and fair1 ,may have changed with the seasons of toiling and care1 ,tho' the voice that to youth and it's freedom belongs1 ,may have lost all its sweetness for lullaby songs1 ,yet the years that shall make the dear mother grow old1 ,will but add to her nature a blessing untold2-- ,tho' they rob her of youth1 she retains1 as a prize1 ,a love more mature and a counsel more wise4 ,tho' her life lose it's sunshine and burdens oppress1 ,yet the love of the mother will never be less2 ,tho' her children may wander away from the fold1 ,and the world shuts them out in the darkness and cold1 ,tho' their friends may prove faithless and sin may allure1 ,yet of mother's true love they can ever be sure4 ,tho' to far away lands they may wilfully roam1 ,the fond mother's prayer will be guiding them home4 ,if they climb to the height of honor and fame1 ,they should whisper1 in credit1 the dear mother name4 ,her love inspires all that is noble and good1 ,and ,purity reigneth o'er sweet mother-hood4 ,tho' the great word applaud1 the praise of another ,is nothing compared with the praises of mother4 ,the earth home is dreary1 when she is away1 ,her presence adds sunshine to each changing day1 ,and ,heaven1 in it's glory1 will be the more fair1 ,when the spirit of mother shall find entrance there4 ,,hidden ,,treasures4 ,beneath the waves of ocean blue1 ,the precious pearls are lost from view2 ,within the darkness of the mine1 ,the gold and uncut diamonds shine2 ,from human sight beneath the sky1 ,the little seeds in waiting lie4 ,within the mind1 like pearls of white1 ,some hidden thoughts await the light2 ,which1 brightly polished1 shall outshine ,the varied treasures of the mine2 ,and like the seeds that wake to flowers1 ,shall bless and brighten all life's hours4 ,,in ,,life ,,and ,,death4 ,i see her smile in sleep ,and to her crib ,i creep ,to kiss the baby face where dimples play2 ,i smooth her sunny hair ,and breathe to ,god a heart4 ,pray not for light to solve thy problems right1 ,but be thyself to other souls a light4 ,god gave thee mighty strength to help the weak1 ,and yet thy prayers of thine own weakness speak2 ,god gave thee power to comfort and to teach1 ,and lift souls up to heights they strive to reach1 ,and yet thy prayers ascend to ,his white throne1 ,pleading for comfort for thyself alone2 ,thou prayest too for wisdom and release1 ,and hands to draw thee upward into peace1 ,forgetting that which ,christ would have thee know1-- ,peace comes to those who make peace here below2 ,forgetting that ,his arms shall draw thee near ,only as thine are held to others here2 ,that wisdom comes to thee each passing hour ,by teaching others what is in thy power2 ,that comfort comes by thy own word and deed1
