,the ,kingdom of ,god ,part #a4 99 99 99 99 ,,by ,,orson ,,pratt ,,one ,,of ,,the ,,twelve ,,apostles ,,of ,,the ,,church ,,of ,,jesus ,,christ ,,of ,,latter-,,day ,,saints 99 99 99 99 ,the kingdom of ,god is an order of government established by divine authority4 ,it is the only legal government that can exist in any part of the universe4 ,all other governments are illegal and unauthorized4 ,god1 having made all beings and worlds1 has the supreme right to govern them by his own laws1 and by officers of his own appointment4 ,any people attempting to govern themselves by laws of their own making1 and by officers of their own appointment1 are in direct rebellion against the kingdom of ,god4 ,the antediluvians were overthrown by a flood1 because they rejected the government of the ,almighty1 and instituted their own governments in its stead4 ,noah and his family were the only loyal and obedient subjects to the legal power3 they alone were saved4 ,the universal desolation and utter abolishment of all the unauthorized man-made governments of the old world1 should have been an everlasting warning to all future generations to avoid the same rebellion1 and to establish no governments on the earth of human origin4 ,but1 alas6 the posterity of ,noah soon revolted from the only legal1 rightful power1 and set up for themselves forms of governments of their own inventions4 ,the rebellion soon became so general1 that all the inhabitants of the earth1 except ,melchizedek1 ,abraham1 ,lot1 and a very few others1 engaged themselves in it1 supporting and upholding kings and other officers in their usurped authority1 and suffering themselves to be governed by human laws1 instead of revealed laws from ,god4 ,from that time until the present1 empires1 kingdoms1 principalities1 republics1 and numerous other corrupt1 illegal1 unauthorized powers1 have multiplied themselves in the four quarters of the globe4 ,at various times1 during the last four thousand years1 ,god has asserted his rights1 and endeavoured to establish his own authority1 his own laws1 and his own government among the children of men4 ,but so great was the opposition manifested by those illegal1 rebellious powers1 that his government while on earth was exceedingly limited in numbers4 ,the vast majority of mankind made war against it--overcame1 killed1 and destroyed its officers and loyal subjects1 until not a vestige of it was left remaining on the earth4 ,for seventeen hundred years the nations upon the eastern hemisphere have been entirely destitute of the kingdom of ,god--entirely destitute of a true and legal government--entirely destitute of officers legally authorized to rule and govern4 ,all the emperors1 kings1 princes1 presidents1 lords1 nobles1 and rulers1 during that long night of darkness1 have acted without authority4 ,not one of them was called or anointed a king or a prince by the ,god of heaven--not one of them received his office or appointment by him--not one of them has received revelations or laws from him--not one of them has received any communication whatsoever from the rightful sovereign1 the ,great ,king4 ,their authority is all assumed--it originated in man4 ,their laws are not from the ,great ,lawgiver1 but the productions of their own false governments4 ,their very foundations were laid in rebellion1 and the whole superstructure1 from first to last1 is a heterogeneous mass of discordant elements1 in direct opposition to the kingdom of ,god1 which is the only true government which should be recognized on earth or in heaven4 ,the kingdom of ,god is a theocracy4 ,and as it is the only form of government which will redeem and save mankind1 it is necessary that every soul should be rightly and thoroughly instructed in regard to its nature and general characteristics4 ,the beauty1 glory1 power1 wisdom1 and order of the kingdom of ,god may be more fully understood by a careful examination of the following subjects4 ,first4--,the nature and character of the ,king4 ,second4--,the character and requisite qualifications of the subordinate officers4 ,third4--,the nature and character of the laws of adoption1 or the invariable rule by which aliens are admitted into the kingdom as citizens4 ,fourth4--,the nature and character of the laws given for the government of all adopted citizens4 ,fifth4--,the character1 disposition1 and qualifications necessary for every citizen to possess4 ,sixth4--,the rights1 privileges1 and blessings enjoyed by the subjects in this life4 ,seventh4--,the rights1 privileges1 and blessings promised to the faithful1 obedient subjects in a future life4 ,dear reader1 your future well-being in all time to come1 depends upon your rightly understanding these seven subjects4 ,read1 therefore1 with serious attention1 and your mind shall be opened to see things that you never saw before2 things too of infinite importance1 without which you can in no wise be saved4 ,let us begin by examining-- ,first4--,the nature and character of the ,king4 ,god is the ,king4 ,in him exists all legal authority4 ,he alone has the right of originating a system of government on the earth4 ,he claims this right by virtue of his having made man and the earth he inhabits4 ,man1 therefore1 is indebted to ,god for his own formation and for the formation of the planet on which he dwells4 ,he also claims the right of establishing his government among men1 by virtue of his superior wisdom and power4 ,if ,god had sufficient wisdom and power to construct such a beautiful world as this1 with all the infinite varieties of vegetables and animals appended to it2 if he could form such an intricate and complicated piece of machinery as the human tabernacle as a dwelling-place for the human spirit1 then we must admit that his wisdom and power are immeasurably greater than that of man1 and hence he is qualified to reign as king4 ,an order of government1 established by such an all-wise1 powerful being1 must be good and perfect1 and must be calculated to promote the permanent peace1 happiness1 and well-being of all his subjects4 ,the ,great ,king is a very amiable being1 full of benevolence and goodness1 and never turns any person away empty1 that comes requesting a favor which he sees would be for his benefit4 ,the ,king occasionally visited his subjects in ancient times1 and once tarried with them for several years2 but he received such cruel abuse from many of the people that he left them1 and went to some other part of his dominions4 ,where the ,king is gone the people cannot tell4 ,they have not heard one word from him for upwards of seventeen hundred years4 ,he has been absent so long1 that some of the people have doubted even his existence4 ,they have argued that if he did exist1 that some one would very likely have heard something from him in the course of so many centuries4 ,many millions however have some idea that he exists1 and are constantly sending all kinds of petitions to him2 but for some reason he sends no word back4 ,no messengers are dispatched to the petitioners to give them any counsel upon any subject4 ,it has become a very popular thing to send daily petitions to the ,king1 and to appropriate one day out of seven for the especial purpose of sending in their petitions4 ,the same petitions are frequently sent a great number of times4 ,it is very unpopular however for any one to expect the ,king to make any reply to any petitions sent in4 ,any one pretending to have received a reply would be counted a base impostor2 for1 say they1 the ,king has spoken to no one for the last seventeen hundred years2 no one has heard from him since he conversed with his servant ,john on the ,isle of ,patmos4 ,the ,king conversed very freely with his subjects in the early and middle ages2 and some think it very strange that he has been silent so long4 ,they have expended millions in building many costly and magnificent churches in honor of his name2 but yet he has not deigned to grace one of them with a visit1 neither has he condescended to send any tidings to them by a messenger or otherwise4 ,he has not informed them whether he was pleased or displeased with their splendid edifices4 ,his profound silence for so many centuries has caused many to think that he was1 for some reason1 very angry with the people2 yet they could not see why he should be angry when the people were doing so much to honor him--when they were expending millions to hire learned men to preach and write in such an eloquent manner about him4 ,reader1 can you tell why the ,king should be so distant8 ,why he holds no communication with any of the people8 ,why he has not sent one sentence of consolation or counsel to them8 ,why he has suffered some fifteen thousand millions of the human race to fall into their graves1 in the latter ages1 without condescending to speak one word to any of them8 ,there must be some cause for all this4 ,there must be something wrong4 ,the ,king never formerly served his people in this manner2 and when he went away1 he left word that if any of his people lacked wisdom or knowledge on any subject1 they should send in their petition to him1 and he would liberally send them the requisite information4 ,i will now tell you the reason why the ,king has kept silence so long4 ,it is because he has had no subjects to converse with2 all have turned away from him and advocated other governments as being the rightful and legal authority4 ,they killed off and utterly destroyed every true subject of his kingdom1 and left not a vestige of it upon the earth2 and1 to add to their guilt and wickedness1 they have introduced idolatry in its worst forms1 and utterly turned away from the true and living ,god4 ,they have introduced a ,god without ,,body1 ,,parts or ,,passions4 ,they have had the audacity to call this newly-invented god by the same name as the ,god of the ancient ,saints1 although there is not the least resemblance between them4 ,indeed there could be no resemblance between them2 for a bodiless god1 without parts or passions1 could resemble nothing in heaven1 on earth1 or in hell4 ,this imaginary modern god has become exceedingly popular4 ,it is to him that a vast number of churches have been erected4 ,it is not to the true and living ,god that they send forth petitions1 but it is to this imaginary being4 ,no wonder that they have received no communication from him6 no wonder he has not honored them with a visit4 ,as he has no ,,parts1 he could neither be felt nor seen if he should visit them4 ,such a being could not speak1 for he has no parts to speak with4 ,there have been various species of idolatry in different ages of the world4 ,the sun1 moon1 stars1 beasts1 crocodiles1 frightful serpents1 images of wood1 of stone1 and of brass1 have been erected into gods1 and worshipped by innumerable multitudes4 ,but the system of idolatry1 invented by modern christianity1 far surpasses in absurdity anything that we have ever heard of4 ,one of the celebrated worshippers of this newly-discovered god1 in his ,physical ,theory of ,another ,life1 says1 ,a disembodied spirit1 or1 we should rather say1 an unembodied spirit1 or sheer mind1 is ,,no ,,where4 ,place is a relation belonging to extension2 and extension is a property of matter3 but that which is wholly abstracted from matter1 and in speaking of which we deny that it has any property in common therewith1 can in itself be subject to none of its conditions2 and we might as well say of a pure spirit that it is hard1 heavy1 or red1 or that it is a cubic foot in dimensions1 as say that it is here or there4 ,it is only in a popular and improper sense that any such affirmation is made concerning the ,infinite ,spirit1 or that we speak of ,god as every where present4 ,god is in every place in a sense1 altogether incomprehensible by finite minds1 inasmuch as his relation to space and extension is peculiar to infinitude4 ,using the terms as we use them of ourselves1 ,god is not here or there1 any more than he exists now and then4 ,this species of idolatry1 according to the foregoing quotations1 approaches so near to ,atheism1 that no one can tell the difference4 ,reader1 can you see the difference8 ,a god without a body6 ,a god without parts6 ,a god that cannot be here or there6 ,a god that is ,,no ,,where6 ,a god that cannot exist ,,now and ,,then6 ,a god that exists in ,,no ,,time6 ,a god that has no extension--no parts--no conceivable relation to time or space6 ,o1 blush for modern christianity6--a pious name for ,atheism6 ,some perhaps may think that ,i have not sufficient charity4 ,but why should ,i have charity for a god that has no parts--no relation to space8 ,let him first have charity for himself4 ,but this would be impossible2 for he is a god without passions4 ,he can have no charity nor love for himself nor any one else4 ,there is no danger of offending him2 for a passionless god is not capable of anger4 ,one of the persons of this imaginary god is said to have been crucified4 ,but this must be a sad mistake2 for it would be impossible to crucify a portion of something that had no parts4 ,the reason1 then1 why the people have not received any word from the ,great ,king1 is because they have petitioned the wrong god4 ,would you expect her majesty1 the queen of ,england1 to answer your petition if it were directed to some ,african prince8 ,would you expect the ,god of heaven to answer a petition that was addressed to a ,hindoo god8 ,if1 then1 your petitions are addressed to the bodiless1 passionless god of modern christianity1 you must not be surprised if the true ,god does not pay any attention to it4 ,you need not expect that the true ,god will make any reply to petitions offered to any other being4 ,the true ,god exists both in time and in space1 and has as much relation to them as man or any other being4 ,he has extension1 and form1 and dimensions1 as well as man4 ,he occupies space2 has a body1 parts1 and passions2 can go from place to place--can eat1 drink1 and talk1 as well as man4 ,man resembles him in the features and form of his body1 and he does not differ materially in size4 ,when he has been seen among men1 he has been pronounced1 even by the wicked1 as one of their own species4 ,so much did he look like man1 that some supposed him to be the carpenter's son4 ,like man1 ,he had a ,father2 and he was the express image of the person of the ,father4 ,the two persons were as much alike in form1 in size1 and in every other respect as fathers and sons are of the human race2 indeed1 the human race are his offspring1 made in his likeness and image1 not after his moral image1 but after the image of his person4 ,there is no such thing as moral image4 ,such an image cannot exist4 ,morality is a property of some being or substance4 ,a property without a substance or being to which it appertains is inconceivable4 ,a property can never have figure1 shape1 or image of any kind4 ,hence1 a moral image never had an existence except in the brains of modern idolators4 ,the ,godhead consists of the ,father1 the ,son1 and the ,holy ,spirit4 ,the ,father is a material being4 ,the substance of which he is composed is wholly material4 ,it is a substance widely different in some respects from the various substances with which we are more immediately acquainted4 ,in other respects it is precisely like all other materials4 ,the substance of his person occupies space the same as other matter4 ,it has solidity1 length1 breadth1 and thickness1 like all other matter4 ,the elementary materials of his body are not susceptible of occupying1 at the same time1 the same identical space with other matter4 ,the substance of his person1 like other matter1 cannot be in two places at the same instant4 ,it also requires time for him to transport himself from place to place4 ,it matters not how great the velocity of his movements1 time is an essential ingredient to all motion1 whether rapid or slow4 ,it differs from other matter in the superiority of its powers1 being intelligent1 all-wise1 and possessing the power of self-motion to a far greater extent than the coarser materials of nature4 ,god is a spirit4 ,but that does not make him an immaterial being--a being that has no properties in common with matter4 ,the expression an immaterial being1 is a contradiction in terms4 ,immateriality is only another name for nothing4 ,it is the negative of all existence4 ,a spirit is as much matter as oxygen or hydrogen4 ,it has many properties in common with all other matter4 ,chemists have discovered between fifty and sixty kinds of matter2 and each kind has some properties in common with all other matter1 and some properties peculiar to itself which the others do not inherit4 ,now1 no chemist1 in classifying his substances1 would presume to say1 ,this substance is material1 but that one is immaterial1 because it differs in some respects from the first4 ,he would call them all material1 though they in some respect differed widely4 ,so the substance called spirit is material1 though it differs in a remarkable degree from other substances4 ,it is only the addition of another element of a more powerful nature than any yet discovered4 ,he is not a being without parts1 as modern idolators teach2 for every whole is made up of parts4 ,the whole person of the ,father consists of innumerable parts2 and each part is so situated as to bear certain relations of distance to every other part4 ,there must also be1 to a certain degree1 a freedom of motion among these parts1 which is an essential condition of the movement of his limbs1 without which he could only move as a whole4 ,all the foregoing statements in relation to the person of the ,father1 are equally applicable to the person of the ,son4 ,the ,holy ,spirit being one part of the ,godhead1 is also a material substance1 of the same nature and properties in many respects1 as the spirits of the ,father and ,son4 ,it exists in vast immeasurable quantities in connexion with all material worlds4 ,this is called ,god in the scriptures1 as well as the ,father and ,son4 ,god the ,father and ,god the ,son cannot be everywhere present2 indeed they cannot be even in two places at the same instant2 but ,god the ,holy ,spirit is omnipresent--it extends through all space1 intermingling with all other matter1 yet no one atom of the ,holy ,spirit can be in two places at the same instant1 which in all cases is an absolute impossibility4 ,it must exist in inexhaustible quantities1 which is the only possible way for any substance to be omnipresent4 ,all the innumerable phenomena of universal nature are produced in their origin by the actual presence of this intelligent1 all-wise1 and all-powerful material substance called the ,holy ,spirit4 ,it is the most active matter in the universe1 producing all its operations according to fixed definite laws enacted by itself1 in conjunction with the ,father and ,son4 ,what are called the laws of nature are nothing more nor less than the fixed method by which this spiritual matter operates4 ,each atom of the ,holy ,spirit is intelligent1 and like all other matter has solidity1 form1 and size1 and occupies space4 ,two atoms of this ,spirit cannot occupy the same space at the same time1 neither can one atom1 as before stated1 occupy two separate spaces1 at the same time4 ,in all these respects it does not differ in the least from all other matter4 ,its distinguishing characteristics from other matter are its almighty powers and infinite wisdom1 and many other glorious attributes which other materials do not possess4 ,if several of the atoms of this ,spirit should unite themselves together into the form of a person1 then this person of the ,holy ,spirit would be subject to the same necessity as the two other persons of the ,godhead1 that is1 it could not be everywhere present4 ,no finite number of atoms can be omnipresent2 an infinite number of atoms is requisite to be everywhere in infinite space4 ,two persons receiving the gift of the ,holy ,spirit1 do not each receive at the same time the same identical particles1 though they each receive a substance exactly similar in kind4 ,it would be as impossible for each to receive the same identical atoms at the same instant1 as it would be for two men at the same time to drink the same identical pint of water4 ,it is these three all-powerful substances that stand at the head of all legal government4 ,all governments not established by these three will be ere long overthrown4 ,they hold the supreme authority and power in heaven1 and in the heaven of heavens1 and throughout the wide expanse of universal nature4 ,all principalities1 powers1 and kingdoms1 whether in heaven or on earth1 must yield to be instructed and controlled by the supreme power1 or they cannot stand4 ,second4--,the character and requisite qualifications of the subordinate officers in the kingdom of ,god are now to be considered4 ,as the persons of the ,father and ,son cannot be every where present1 it is therefore impossible for them to attend in person to all the multiplied affairs of government among intelligent beings2 therefore1 ,god1 in establishing a government among such beings1 has always called persons of their own number to officiate in his name4 ,the character of these persons1 previously to their calling and appointment1 has generally been that of honesty and sincerity2 otherwise they have not differed materially from other men4 ,the various officers1 called of ,god to administer the affairs of his government1 are apostles1 prophets1 bishops1 evangelists1 elders1 pastors1 teachers1 and deacons4 ,god has only one way of calling these different officers1 and that is by new revelation4 ,no person was ever authorized to act in the name of the ,lord1 unless called by new revelation4 ,paul says 7,heb4 v4 #d ch4 #e71 ,no man taketh this honour unto himself1 but he that is called of ,god as was ,aaron4 ,among the vast number of national governments now upon the earth1 where is there one that even professes to be the kingdom of ,god1 or that its officers were called of ,god as was ,aaron8 ,human authority and human calling are the only powers which any nation professes to have4 ,but there are certain petty governments1 called churches1 organized within these national governments1 which claim divine authority1 and consider their officers authorized to act in the name of the ,lord4 ,but the great question is1 ,have any of them been called as ,aaron was8 ,by new revelation ,aaron was called4 ,by new revelation the duties of his calling were made known4 ,have any of the ,roman ,catholic or ,protestant officers been called by new revelation8 ,has ,god said one word to any of them8 ,do they not1 with very few exceptions1 declare that ,there is no later revelation than the ,new ,testament8 ,if the revelations contained in the ,new ,testament are the last ones given1 then the persons to whom they were given1 were the last ones called of ,god4 ,when new revelation ceases to be given1 officers cease to be called of ,god4 ,when the calling of officers cease1 the kingdom of ,god ceases to be perpetuated upon the earth4 ,nothing is more certain than that the church of ,god ceased to exist on the earth when new revelation ceased to be given4 ,all the modern christian churches1 who deny new revelation1 have no more authority to preach1 baptize1 or administer any other ordinance of the gospel than the idolatrous ,hindoos have2 indeed all their administrations are worse than in vain--they are a solemn mockery in the sight of ,god4 ,it is a grievous sin in the sight of ,god for any man to presume to baptize1 unless ,god has authorized him by new revelation to baptize in his name4 ,saul1 the king of ,israel1 lost his kingdom because he assumed the authority that did not belong to him 7,i ,sam4 xiii4 #h-ae47 ,another king of ,israel was smote with leprosy until the day of his death1 because he attempted to administer an ordinance without being called and authorized 7#b ,chron4 xxvi4 #af-bb47 ,so all the baptisms and sacraments administered by modern christian churches who have done away new revelation1 are an abomination in the sight of ,god4 ,all persons who shall suffer themselves to be baptized1 or partake of these ordinances through the administration of these illegal unauthorized persons1 after having been duly warned of the evil thereof1 will bring themselves under great condemnation before ,god1 and unless they repent of that sin they can in no wise be saved4 ,the twelve apostles were called by new revelation1 but that did not authorize ,paul1 ,barnabas1 ,timothy1 or any other person4 ,each one had to receive a separate call by new revelation for himself4 ,no one could lawfully act under a commission given to some other person4 ,all the commissions recorded in the ,new ,testament were given to individuals then living1 and not to any individuals who should live in some future age4 ,if any person would have authority1 let them obtain a new commission from ,god1 as his servants always did in ancient times1 and if they officiate without such new commission1 then know assuredly that they are impostors4 ,the subordinate officers in the kingdom of ,god must not only be called of ,god1 but qualified to act in their respective offices4 ,the first qualification absolutely necessary for every officer in the kingdom is1 the gift of the ,holy ,spirit4 ,this is the most important qualification of all others4 ,no man1 without this qualification1 can attain to an office in the kingdom of ,god2 it matters not how great his other attainments are2 though he has studied the scriptures from a child1 and committed them all to memory--though he has carefully learned the original languages in which they were written--though he has made himself master of all sciences--grasped with a comprehensive mind all the arguments set forth in theological works1 yet none of these attainments will qualify him for even the least office in the kingdom of ,god4 ,the unlearned youth1 who had not the knowledge of the ,english alphabet1 if he were called of ,god1 and qualified by the gift of the ,holy ,spirit1 would have more power and authority1 and could do more towards saving men1 than all the theologians and doctors of divinity that the world affords1 unless they also were called of ,god1 and endowed with the gift of the ,holy ,ghost4 ,no other qualifications whatsoever can be substituted in the stead of the ,holy ,spirit4 ,the ,holy ,spirit is the great distinguishing characteristic between the officers of the kingdom of ,god and impostors4 ,every officer sent of ,god has a qualification that no impostor ever had or ever can have4 ,the first officers placed in the kingdom of ,god are apostles4 ,let us enquire how in ancient times this office was conferred on man4 ,jesus said to his ancient apostles 7,john xv4 #af7 ,ye have not chosen me1 but ,i have chosen you1 and ordained you1 that ye should go and bring forth fruit4 ,paul informs us 7,heb4 iii4 #a7 that ,jesus himself was an apostle4 ,holding the office himself1 he had the most perfect right to confer the same calling upon others2 hence he first chose them1 and then ordained them2 after this he sent them forth to preach 7,matthew x47 and commanded them1 saying1 ,go not into the way of the ,gentiles1 and into any city of the ,samaritans1 enter ye not3 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of ,israel4 ,and as ye go1 preach1 saying1 ,the kingdom of heaven is at hand4 ,heal the sick1 cleanse the lepers1 raise the dead1 cast out devils3 freely ye have received1 freely give4 ,although these apostles were chosen1 ordained1 and sent forth on a particular mission to the cities of ,israel1 with power to work mighty miracles1 yet there was an essential qualification which they had not yet received4 ,they had received power sufficient to qualify them to preach that the kingdom of heaven was at hand4 ,but they had not yet received power sufficient to fully organize and build up that kingdom on the earth4 ,they lacked one very important qualification1 without which they could never establish the kingdom which they had already predicted was at hand4 ,what was this further qualification which these apostles had not yet received8 ,it was the gift of the ,holy ,ghost1 or the other ,comforter which ,jesus promised them4 ,it is very remarkable that these apostles should have such great power1 and yet not have the ,holy ,ghost4 ,but hear what the scripture saith 7,john vii4 #cg1 #ch1 #ci7 ,in the last day1 that great day of the feast1 ,jesus stood1 and cried1 saying1 ,if any man thirst1 let him come unto me1 and drink4 ,he that believeth on me1 as the scripture hath said1 out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water4 7,but this spake he of the ,spirit1 which they that believe on him should receive3 for the ,holy ,ghost was not yet given2 because that ,jesus was not yet glorified47 ,mark the expression1 the ,holy ,ghost was not yet given4 ,this agrees with another saying of ,jesus to his apostles 7,john xvi4 #g71 ,nevertheless1 ,i tell you the truth2 it is expedient for you that ,i go away2 for if ,i go not away1 the ,comforter will not come unto you2 but if ,i depart ,i will send him unto you4 ,jesus calls this ,comforter the ,holy ,ghost 7,john xiv4 #bf74 ,after the resurrection of ,jesus1 and as he was about to be taken up into heaven1 he said to his apostles 7,luke xxiv4 #di71 ,behold ,i send the promise of my ,father upon you 7alluding to the ,comforter or the ,holy ,ghost1 which he promised several days before should be sent unto them from the ,father after his glorification72 but1 said he1 tarry ye in the city of ,jerusalem1 until ye be endued with power from on high4 ,thus you see1 dear reader1 that these apostles had power to heal the sick1 cleanse the lepers1 raise the dead1 and cast out devils1 although the ,holy ,ghost was not yet given to them4 ,a certain power was yet lacking4 ,jesus had commanded them saying1 ,go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature4 ,but he would not suffer them to commence this mission until the promise of the ,father--the ,holy ,ghost--was given them4 ,they already had power to work mighty miracles1 but had not the power to build up the kingdom of ,god4 ,this power they were to tarry for in ,jerusalem1 and when they should receive it1 they were then to commence the duties of their mission1 first1 in the city of ,jerusalem1 and afterwards extend their labours to all nations4 ,the power to work miracles is entirely a different thing from the power to build up the kingdom of ,god2 the latter power1 however1 always includes the former1 but the former power does not always include the latter4 ,we now ask1 ,where is there a man among all the churches of modern times1 who has been called to the office of an apostle by new revelation8 ,where is there a man among all the millions of modern christians who has been ordained to the office of an apostle1 under the hands of an apostle1 as the ,twelve were anciently8 ,where is there a man to be found among all the ,catholics or ,protestants who has been endowed with even the power of working miracles1 to say nothing of the still greater power communicated in the gift of the ,holy ,ghost8 ,if the apostles in ancient days could not build up the kingdom of ,god1 without being endowed with these two degrees of power1 surely no one since their day could be authorized to build the church of ,god with any less qualification4 ,one of the important duties required of an apostle is to ,,administer ,,the ,,spirit4 ,in #b ,cor4 iii #f1 we read that both ,paul and ,timothy were made able ministers of the ,spirit4 ,the ordinance through which the ,spirit is ministered is ,,the ,,laying ,,on ,,of ,,hands4 7,acts viii4 and xix4 ,heb4 vi47 ,to the apostles were entrusted three very important administrations for the salvation of man3-- ,first4--,the ministration of the word4 ,second4--,the ministration of the baptism of water4 ,and ,third4--,the ministration of the baptism of the ,spirit4 ,while ,jesus was with his apostles in person1 they had power to minister the word and water1 but not the ,spirit1 for they themselves had not yet been baptized with the ,spirit2 and they could not administer that which they were not in possession of4 ,it was necessary that they should first receive the gift themselves1 before they could confer it upon others4 ,hence we can perceive the propriety of ,jesus commanding them to wait at ,jerusalem until they should be endued with power from on high2 for without this additional power they could neither save themselves nor others4 ,many persons have flattered themselves1 that they can be saved without the assistance of a minister sent of ,god4 ,but this is a vain delusive hope2 for ,jesus hath expressly said1 ,except a man be born of water and of the ,spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of ,god4 ,now as no man can be saved out of the kingdom1 it is necessary that he should be born into the kingdom2 and this would be impossible without an administrator sent of ,god2 for the birth or baptism of water1 and the birth or baptism of the ,spirit1 require some one legally authorized to officiate in behalf of the candidate4 ,reader1 have you ever received the ,holy ,ghost through the laying on of the hands of one sent of ,god8 ,if not1 you are not yet born of the spirit4 ,you are not yet a child of the kingdom4 ,know assuredly1 that unless you find some man who has been sent by the command of ,god as was ,aaron1 and get him to remit your sins through your faith1 repentance1 and baptism1 and have him to minister to you the ,holy ,ghost1 as did the ancient apostles--you need not flatter yourself that you can be saved4 ,do not deceive yourself upon this all-important subject4 ,do not suffer any man to baptize or administer unto you unless ,god has spoken unto him by the voice of his servants1 and authorized him to minister in his name4 ,do you enquire how you are to know an authorized man of ,god from one who has no authority8 ,i will tell you how to discern the difference4 ,a true servant of ,god will never teach a false doctrine4 ,he will never deny new revelation4 ,he never will tell you that the canon of scripture is full1 or that the ,new ,testament is the last revelation ever intended to be given to man4 ,he never will tell you1 that miraculous gifts are no longer necessary in the church of ,god4 ,he never will tell you1 that inspired apostles1 prophets1 and other officers are not requisite in the church now4 ,he never will tell you that the ministration of the spirit by the laying on of hands1 is done away by ,god's appointment4 ,but he will tell you1 that if you will receive his message1 and be baptized by one having authority1 that your sins shall be remitted1 and that you shall be filled with the ,holy ,ghost by the laying on of hands2 and that you shall know1 by the teachings thereof1 that his doctrine is true and of ,god4 ,in this respect he will differ from all impostors2 for an impostor never had power to minister this spirit4 ,an imposter dare not promise you that you shall be filled with the ,holy ,ghost by the laying on of his hands2 for he knows that such a promise would not be fulfilled--he knows that you would detect him to be a false teacher by complying with his conditions1 and failing to receive his promise4 ,an impostor1 knowing that he has no power to give the ,holy ,ghost as the ancient apostles had1 will endeavour to persuade you that such power is not necessary now4 ,he knows very well1 that if he cannot get the people to believe that such power is not necessary in these days1 that his own unauthorized pretensions will be at once detected4 ,an impostor1 like ,simon ,magus1 may deceive ignorant people by witchcraft and sorcery1 but he can never deceive them by pretending to give the ,holy ,ghost through prayer and laying on of hands4 ,this is a power that none but a true minister of ,god possesses2 it cannot be counterfeited by the devil4 ,the devil can counterfeit the miracles of ,christ1 but he cannot counterfeit the gift of the ,holy ,ghost4 ,none but the lawful ministers of ,christ can minister the spirit4 ,this then is an infallible sign by which to distinguish true apostles from false ones4 ,but does this infallible sign exist either among the ,papists or ,protestants8 ,can any of their ministers give the ,holy ,ghost by the laying on of hands8 ,if not1 they are not the church of ,god1 and their ministers are unauthorized--all their administrations are illegal and an abomination in the sight of ,god--salvation is not among them4 ,not one person among all their societies has been legally baptized4 ,reader1 are you a member of any of these societies8 if so1 haste to withdraw yourself from them1 that you partake not of their plagues1 for the hour of their judgment is come4 ,if you would be saved1 seek after the apostles and prophets of the kingdom of ,god1 and receive their administrations1 and you shall be filled with the ,holy ,ghost1 and obtain eternal life4 #ae1 ,wilton ,street1 ,october #ca1 #ahdh 99 99 99 99 ,r4 ,,james1 ,,printer1 #ci ,b1 ,,south ,,castle
