father and your mother whether this is true4 ,your father will say1 ,i have had a great many troubles2 ,i have found it hard to get bread for my children4 ,your mother will say1 ,i have had a great deal of sorrow in bringing up my little family4 ,my dear child1 have you had any troubles8 ,i am sure you have had some4 ,have you ever felt great pain8 have you lost a little baby brother or sister8 have you got into disgrace8 have you been punished for your faults8 ,there is one friend to whom every one may go in every trouble4 ,it is ,jesus1 the ,son of ,god4 ,when we are unhappy1 if we cry unto him1 he will hear us and help us4 ,once he lived down upon this earth1 and was a man4 ,now he is in heaven1 and he is a man still as well as ,god4 ,i will tell you how he helped some of his friends out of trouble when he lived in this world4 ,his friends were called disciples4 ,one evening they went into a ship4 ,jesus did not go with them2 he stayed where he was1 and spent the night all alone on the top of a mountain1 praying to his ,father4 ,god was his ,father4 ,the disciples were in their little ship on the water when the wind began to blow very hard indeed4 ,the waves rose high1 and the ship was tossed about4 ,every moment the poor men were afraid that the water would fill their ship1 and that they should sink to the bottom of the sea4 ,all night long the disciples were in sad distress1 trying with all their might to row their ship to land1 but all they could do was of no use4 ,at last they saw a man walking on the sea4 ,there he was in the midst of the great waves1 walking as on the dry land4 ,he went faster than the ship1 and seemed as if he would pass by it4 ,the disciples did not know who it was4 ,they thought it could not be a man with a body like ours2 they supposed it was a spirit1 who has no body4 ,they were very much frightened1 and they cried out in their trouble4 ,then they heard a voice saying1 ,it is ,i1 be not afraid4 ,whose voice was that8 ,you know1 and they knew2 it was the voice of ,jesus4 ,though the winds were whistling and the waves roaring1 his voice could be heard4 ,one of the disciples1 named ,peter1 said1 ,lord1 if it be thou1 bid me come unto thee on the water4 ,jesus said1 ,come4 ,so ,peter got out of the ship and walked on the water to go to ,jesus4 ,he believed that ,jesus could help him to walk on the water1 and ,jesus did help him4 ,but when ,peter saw how high the wind was1 he began to be afraid4 ,this was wrong4 ,he ought to have trusted in ,jesus4 ,soon he felt that he was sinking1 and he cried out1 ,lord1 save me4 ,jesus heard that short prayer2 he was very near1 and he stretched out his hand1 and caught hold of ,peter4 ,trusting in ,god is called faith4 ,peter had a little faith1 but not much4 ,so he was able to walk on the water a little way1 but not far4 ,jesus went into the ship and took ,peter with him1 and as soon as he was there the wind left off blowing4 ,then all the disciples came round him and worshipped him1 saying1 ,truly thou art the ,son of ,god4 ,it is this ,jesus who can help you in your troubles4 ,will you trust him8 ,do not be like ,peter1 and only trust him a little while1 but go on trusting in him1 and you will find that he will keep you safe1 and make you happy4 ,he forgives sins1 which no one else can do1 because he died upon the cross to save us from our sins4 ,when we are dying he will not leave us if we trust in him1 but he will comfort us and take us to heaven4 ,this history you will find in ,matt4 xiv4 #bb--cc2 ,mark vi4 #de--eb4 ,i lay my sins on ,jesus1 ,the
